Planted with Purpose by T.D. Jakes packs a punch. This little devotional book, no larger than 5 inches can easily be mistaken as just "another devotional", but rather it is a small book with bite size chapters that will change your mind. The message of this book is exactly what we all need to read when we are going through difficult times. The purpose of this book is to have the reader keep their eyes on Jesus despite the crushing and refining happening in our lives. This is where God is pouring out His greatest blessing. This little book will challenge and grow you in your difficulty. I highly recommend picking up a copy today, as this is such a prevalent book that speaks into our current situation today.
In Bishop Jakes latest release, his goal is to show you how God is with you even when things don't seem to go right. The book seemed very deja vu ish, as it appears to follow along the same line of one of his previous books, Crushed, Which I read and have physical copies when it first came out. If you haven't read Crushed, then you should glean a lot of spiritual insight in this book.
Best-selling author T.D. Jakes has packed a punch in this small book subtitled “God turns pressure into power.” Our world has gone haywire with this pandemic and this book is full of wisdom and insights for the hard times in life. Virus or not, everyone goes through these challenging situations where you feel like the world has crushed you and you feel God has abandoned you or is silent.
As Bishop Jakes writes, “Your crushing is nothing more than the beginning of a glorious transformation process that will reveal who and what you really are to the world and to you. And it’s just the first step, just like your acceptance of Jesus’ death comes first, so does your crushing. Just like the grapes being trampled comes first, so does your crushing. There is more to come—so much more.” (Page 54)
Every reader will gain personal insights and inspiration from Scripture and Bishop Jake’s stories from PLANTED WITH A PURPOSE. I recommend this book.

In Planted with a Purpose, T.D. Jakes explored the topic of discovering your purpose amidst having to face crushing experiences along the way. Even in your pain, you can still find unexpected blessings. Jakes opens up about how he had his own crushing circumstances and one of these was when he witnessed his mother dying. Around this time, he was also speaking at other churches more, his books were becoming best sellers, and even getting a movie deal. He also shared close to this time his daughter become pregnant at thirteen. Critics was spreading their opinions and he felt depressed and crushed along with losing his mother. He shared how during these crushing times we may feel crushed and broken and we may question our suffering and where is God during it. In the book, Jakes looks at biological growth of a human and how the seed becomes a human. He revealed how no person remains a fertilized ovum and how we each grew to something greater. He shared how the Word discussed all seasons of life and how it has a beginning, middle, and the end. He explored the seed in Abraham and how the promise was found in Jesus and how we apart of the vine and how fruit eventually grows. This in turn is to illustrate our fruit bearing from our lives and God can use for our greater purposes. Throughout the book, Jakes also looked at the process of wine making and crushing the grapes, fermenting, and collecting the wine. He explored how our life is like the process of winemaking. He discussed how we have to wait and how with each generation we hate having to wait for things, such as marriage, babies, good job, eating, texting, and much more. We want everything now. Jakes shared in his own life how he had to wait seven years before he preached and he already had many messages worked on. During this time, God was working on building his character, nervousness, heart, and wisdom.
I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is ready to discover their purpose in life and they may currently be going through a crushing season. But Jakes encourages readers to hold on to hope and he explains how God will use everything in every season of our lives to help us find our true purpose. I immensely connect with how transparent Jakes was in sharing about the pains he felt his life with losing his mother and with his daughter become pregnant and getting thrown a curve ball in life. He shared how God used both of theses to help him find his purpose in life and how God doesn’t waste anything in our life. I liked how he looked at Jesus life and how He took our sins and how during his crushing season, He was preparing us for when we will meet Him in Heaven. I also was encouraged when Jakes reminded readers of the righteous found in Christ and God already sees us as He is. If you’re looking for a book on discovering your purpose, then read this book!

Planted with a Purpose by T. D. Jakes is a small book with a big message. I think it is so hard to keep strong in our faith during the difficult times of life, but Jakes reminds us that those are precisely the times that we most need to keep looking to God.
Planted with a Purpose is about 4 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches--which is a great size to slide in to your purse, book bag or brief case. This book may also be the dose of encouragement that a friend or family member needs during hard time so it would be a nice little gift book. The main message is that when we go through times of waiting or crushing and things are really difficult, God is still with us and He is using those times to grow us and make us more like Him. Jakes further says that God will use those times and bring us bigger blessings at the end of them.
Planted with Purpose is the first book that I have read by Jakes. I liked his references to how God grows us like growing vines and trees because I am a gardener and a grower. It was easy to see his analogies in my mind and I could see how God uses our challenges to grow us and bless us. The book is a mix of Scripture references and stories that Jakes shares from his life. I would recommend anyone read it when they are going through challenges--and that may be many of right now with the state of our country.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own. #sponsoredbyfaithwords
Planted with a Purpose is an inspirational Christian living book by author T.D. Jakes.
Could there be a reason for our suffering? If the best yet to come? As I read this book I reflected on COVID-19 and how it’s affecting the world. Could there be a greater purpose?
At the end of each chapter, there are questions to ask yourself. Thinking about the COVID-19 pandemic the questions I appreciated most are: (1) When you encounter trouble, what can you remind yourself about God’s nature? and (2) How has God used trouble for your good in the past? (p. 42)
This short, pocket-sized book is a great tool for everyone. I especially recommend it to fans of inspirational books.

When I began to read Planted with a Purpose, I was apprehensive about the ability for one to connect with what the author, Bishop T.D. jakes, was trying to communicate. The terminology used in the opening of the first chapter made me distant. I believe that some of the terminology used could have been avoidable. As I continued to read, however, his oratorical skills shined throughout this book as he used imagery to instill the point that neither difficult or joyous occasions are happenstance, but are rooted in purpose. The author carries the reader throughout the winemaking process, from seed to wine, to depict our own growth and development as we transition through each stage of life.
Planted with a Purpose is not a book you can rush through. This book should intentionally be read slowly so you can digest the wealth of information Bishop Jakes is providing. The questions at the end of each chapter pulls the reader into tending to the areas that are bruised and broken and apply God’s truth to them. The questions also causes the reader to remember God’s goodness.
This book is not one that I will read once and never pick up again. It had me reflect on the different seasons of my life well after I completed it. It gave me a fresh perspective and reminded me of God’s never failing and never ending love. Thank you to FaithWords for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book by Bishop T.D. Jakes looks at how God uses a person in trying times, similar to the wine making process, where the person is pressed and crushed only to be made into fine wine at the end of the trial or situation. This is an easy to read short book, and will encourage those that may not see the big picture, especially in out era of wanting everything right now. This book will lift those that need a boost in whatever trials they are facing. This is the first book I have ever read from this author and enjoyed the book. I was able to read Planted with a Purpose by T.D. Jakes for free from Netgalley for providing me with an advanced ARC in exchange for an honest review. This was my first book by T.D. Jakes and it was quick easy read. It was the perfect read during this time. He reminds us that if we are experiencing bad moments is not because of anything we did or did not do but because God is setting you up for bigger and better things. He reminds us how we should remind in faith, be patient and to not rush things. God has a plan and we should wait for it. We need to stay United, Strong and Healthy.
This is a great book to read to transform your outlook . The author uses metaphoric language to appeal to the reader describing the winemaking process to reflect our own growth and development as human beings. He writes of stages of life and how in our broken times we can apply the teachings of God. . If you read this thoughtfully with a open mind you will find much here to take in that is helpful . The author included questions at the end of each chapter.
Thank you to the author and the publisher for the opportunity. I recommend this book with a four star rating.
This book was another excellent read written by T.D. Jakes. His style of writing is always so engaging and challenging and this book was no different. Planted with a Purpose offers so much hope to us in our suffering as Jakes encourages us that God uses ALL things, even the most difficult experiences to bring unexpected blessings in our lives. I would recommend this book to anyone going through a rough season because it will inspire them to have hope and trust that God is still in control and leading them in a good path.
It’s a lovely book! He talked about how our crushing/ hardships are part of the progress of getting to our dream/ purpose. I like how he said “He doesn’t rush with any of us because anything valuable is also something worth waiting for.” I think that’s such a beautiful phrase and reminds me that God wants us to have the dreams as much as us. And for us to really value our dreams, we have to be patient and go through works that builds up that dream. Amazing reminder that God is faithful and he know what we’re going through because he himself has experience such pain to get his dream.
Perfect for times of challenge and questioning our faith , Jakes forces the reader to accept current situations . The reader gains a better understanding of why God does what He does. It gives the reader understanding and hope that we must endure challenges to furment to the best wine . The writer has endured so much himself and can share his experiences to let all know that it gets better with prayer and meditation .
Planted with a Purpose is exactly what you would expect in a devotional from T.D. Jakes. His words are powerful and bold. If you have read his books you may not find anything new in this devotional-- but if you are new to TD Jakes, this might be a good introduction! A daily devotion is a nice, quick and easy way to deepen your quiet time. This is one pretty much as expected, well organized and clear.
The publisher made a copy of this book available on Netgalley. This is my honest review.
Beautiful short read. Though the one I have had huge fonts, kind of distract me when reading but the messages were still amazing. Sometimes we need to be encouraged to get to work on our purpose. Not just to know why, but to allow what God wants us to do to fulfill His purpose. Like the Proverbs 16:9 says, 'the heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.' I would definitely recommend this little book.
The book addresses the fact that when faced with the challenges of life; God uses us for purpose. If we have no purpose, we can't experience God power. When our faith is tested, we must find the strength to move on. The author emphasized that faith will be refined and purified. God has tailored struggles so that we can produce fruit and some trials are planted in pain and pressure, but God is able to help during the crushing process.
I am somewhat of a fan of T.D. Jakes so I was excited to read this book. However, I just could not get into it. While there are some excellent points made throughout this book, it seemed to go on and on and not really keep my attention. If you've already read Crushing, this is pretty much the same thing with the same ideas.
This book was provided to me free for my honest feedback.
This book was very good for what we are all going through right now. I enjoyed the book. With that said, I will point out that it is very close to Crushed - so if you have read Crushed you have really already read this one as well.
A LARGE PRINT BOOK FROM THORNDIKE PRESS THAT IS OF EXCELLENT QUALITY AND VERY EASY TO READ. GOT IT FROM OUR LIBRARY FOR MY MOTHER-IN-LAW. THE AUTHOR IS EASY TO READ AND UNDERSTAND. THE METAPHOR THROUGHOUT THE BOOK IS OF WINE-MAKING. TIMELESS PRINCIPLES TO LIVE BY.
Well worth reading. This book will give you such a different prospective on your struggles and heartache. "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning" Psalm 30:5
I enjoyed reading this selection and look forward to reading more soon. I would definitely recommend this to someone. This book is exactly what I needed at this time .
