After a life-changing tragedy, Selby Roberts was a shell of who she once was.
Forced to leave the only home she has ever known, she must finish high school across the country---where she knew no one. While doing her best to move forward, Selby let the outside world believe that she was fine, but grief had destroyed her inside. She vowed to herself to never let anyone in, the pain of losing people she loved cut too deep.
But, everything changed when the Evans boys pushed their way into her life.
Keaton, Breccan, and Calix Evans are some of the hottest guys in school, but mostly kept to themselves. Only they knew why. They were waiting for the right girl---for all of them. One girl to love, one girl that would keep them together.
When they meet Selby, they see a chance to finally have what they’ve always wanted. But, will she be able to get past her pain and sorrow to give this unorthodox relationship a chance?
Embers of The Heart is a Contemporary Reverse Harem Romance stand-alone. Recommended 18+ due to mature language and situations.
I couldn’t finish this book sadly. The storyline is right up my alley. I love standalone contemporary RH and they are hard to come by.
But I just couldn’t finish this and stopped at 54%. It was all over the place and stuff kept getting mixed up. The three guys are a set of twins and their cousin but throughout the book it kept switching on who the brothers were. They were constantly saying “My brother”. So either the plural form is missing as they consider themselves all brothers or the author couldn’t keep up with who the twins were. Either way it happened many many times and grated on my nerves.
Also it’s nodding and not shaking when someone is moving their head in a yes movement. 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
But there were other things like the brothers that kept switching. Like when Callix sees her kissing Breccan and they tell her they all want her and have always wanted a relationship with one girl but Callix can’t handle it. It keeps switching from him not being able to handle it to Selbi not being into. Which is it?? Whose the one not into it? He says he can’t do it. They will remain friends. Then they are telling her they know she wants them and eventually she’ll be with them.
How I’m the only one who seemed to notice this I don’t know. Maybe quarantine is messing with my brain. 😂 But it drove me up the wall and I just kept growling at my iPad. So I returned the thing and went to a different book.
The whole plot line in general is great. I loved the idea of the book, I'm sure the outline was amazing. But there is no soul, the writing was shallow to me. It's full of emotional hurdles, but it's almost written robotically. I had to quit half way through because I couldn't get over how empty the whole thing felt. I could be just having an off reading day so by all means give it a try.
I had such hope for this story but it felt flat. I didn’t connect with the characters and found the story to be lacking depth. It all felt very surface level and repetitive. At times it felt like reading a report on what happened it was so mechanical and unnatural.
I liked the idea of the guys being pure and committed to Selby from the moment they met her. But that’s the only upside for me. It could have been great but the writing didn’t deliver.
I had been wanting to read this for a long time and now I’m disappointed by how it turned out. Better luck next time I hope.
I would love to see the story continue. It was a really great book and it's a shame it's not a series :( I loved the guys and Shelby, their friends and families. Maybe one day we will get a second book with the guys and Shelby at a university and it won't be only a wishful thinking. I guess we will have to wait and see.
This book just didn't hit right. I loved it and would recommend but wouldn't reread.
I loved the relationship development. They were all mature about it and it all turned out great. Valerie is still a bitch. And the truth about Tripp? I totally didn't see it coming 😂
The plot was great but the accidents were horrifying. I'm so glad it ended HEA.
My new favorite contemporary romance! Stephanie hit all the feels with this one... heartache, love, triumph, fear, anguish, passion, and every other emotion you can think of. The characters are unique and well thought out. This is a must read for anyone that loves contemporary romance.
This is the first clean RH I have read. (Read this as fade to black scenes.) I loved the story, but I wish there had been more. It seemed to spend a long time on unimportant things and speed through things I thought were important to the story.
I think I have fallen in love. This is such a good book I never wanted to put it down. Really hoping there will be another book I never want it to end.
*Spoilers* The thing that I didn't like about this book was the fact that there was crying every other page. Every single time something happened our lead girl cried. I understand that she had trauma in her life. Her parents die in the very beginning of the book, not really a spoiler because that is what the whole book is based around. How she's moving on from losing her parents... Does there have to be crying at every single juncture? Otherwise, the story was nice... Sort of. The chapter transitions were slightly disjointed. Not too many errors or anything... Just crying and odd character development. ... Very glad it wrapped up with no cliffs, but even that feels like it fell flat. Give it a chance though if you want an awkward happy ending and crazy teenagers along the way.
Could have been five BUT it’s YA and fade to black scenes🥲🥲🥲
That was my only major takeaway but other than that, this book was really cute. I liked how it focused more on the emotional aspect in a harem and how it works rather than just the sex.
Safety info: - ALL VIRGIN HAREM!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️ the heroine and all of the 3 Heroes are virgins. - I don’t think the heroine has dated before but I know for sure the guys haven’t, they were waiting for the one. - the guys have only kissed and done over the clothes stuff before, nothing more - OM/OW drama: this one girl has been trying to sleep with the H’s for years but they have zero interest in her. They have never kissed her or anything. OM drama: two guys are trying to sleep with the heroine but she sticks up for herself and the H’s tell the guys to back off - condoms used - fade to black scenes💔💔
This was my first book by this author and i enjoyed it. Shed some tears because of the Mc’s pain but it was nicely written and it’s Fade to black sex scene witch I’m sad about because of the build up but overall a good really good read.
I really enjoyed this book, it was a nice break from the bully and dark romances that I usually read. I will say my one critique is to have someone go through and reedit. There are quite a few errors. I'm not trying to be a downer or the grammar police as the story was good. However, when the main characters name is misspelled and some sentences don't make sense as well as having spelling errors, it takes away from the story. I like to lose myself in my books that I read and when there are multiple errors I just can't get as into it as I would like. Please have someone go back through this and fix it.
I can't DNF 31% The writing style is really weird and uncomfortable and the dialogue is so awkward especially Selby. What teenager talks like that? Also her parents dies which is awful but she seems to be coping in a textbook manner and then a guy grabs her on the arm as she goes to walk away and that seems to be the end of the world, the reactions are so unrealistic and over dramatic. Maybe it gets better but I'm not sticking around to find out, not for a stand alone anyway. I don't really like any of the characters so far.
I paid for this and couldn't finish. The writing has an uncomfortable staccato feeling. I only made it to page 20, but the terrible character development and stilted dialogue combined with grammatical issues made me call it over. I feel bad leaving this review but buyers beware! There are much better things free with KU.
The story is a normal reverse harem story line with teenage angst thrown in. But the writing is somewhat juvenile. I can tell you right now there is no way those conversations with Aunt Julia would EVER happen to a real teenager. Ever. Regardless of a polyamorous relationship. They were extremely uncomfortable. At least the drama wasn’t all death defying.
You know I read one of the reviews that only gave 2 stars because they didn't finish it- because it was too close too home. That's not a good reason for that a low review. It should be higher if the author gets you to emote those things! This was that type of book. There were some heavy parts but that's the way life is. I truly liked this book.
Reading this book is a stepping stone for me to finally get me back to reading. However, when I read about the relationships, I'm like, what?? I mean it is not normal. I almost did not finish this book. I am about to pick other random books. The story is just flat. There is no roller coaster of emotions. It is just meh.
The book was good, not great or amazing, just simply good. It moved quickly but I hardly got to know the characters at all. They were pretty much one dimensional.
Read it if you want to but I regret spending the money for this book.
Sometimes with a reverse harem it can be about the sex. This book is so great because it had a believable plot and great characters who grow with the story. I highly recommend it.
I wanted to give this book a 5⭐ rating because it truly is a good book but I gave it only 4 because it's to PG for me. I like smutt and there was none. But overall it was really good and I would still recommend this book.
