ONE DAY is the story of a boy who has lost his grandpa, who was a tailor. His grandpa goes suddenly, so the boy is left wondering why he left without saying anything. He can't find him anywhere, but he remembers his grandpa's smell from his clothes and the things of the shop. He naps wrapped in his grandpa's scarf. And he thinks how he must have come from someplace far, far away. Someplace beyond the night sky and across the universe to which he's now returned.
I thought reading this book would make me cry. It did a little but it also felt like a warm hug, like somebody knows exactly what it feels like to lose a grandparent. The illustrations are so unlike what I am used to, the cloth textures on each page / illustration that is so well thought of, and every tiny detail has been shown in each drawing.
Beautifully illustrated book about navigating grief and losing a loved one. A very poignant read but the ending was abrupt and overall, it lacked that emotional punch for me.
no walking on eggshells approach of the loss of granddad. so sweet especially the part when the grandson said he wrapped himself in his jacket to breathe in his scent. I saw myself in that line.
