Inferno #2.5

Embers: An Inferno Conclusion

Embers is not a standalone. This is the conclusion to the Inferno series. It is highly advised to read Inferno, Cinere, and Sparks first. I swore to myself that I would never love you.I promised my children that they wouldn't suffer for my sins. But it's so hard, Daddy. It's hard to not love the man that gave me life. It's hard to not love the man that's taken care of me the only way he knows how. I know it's not your fault, and maybe one day, I'll find out why you became a monster. While we still have time left together, I want you to know that I forgive you for everything you've done. I want you to know that I do love you, even if not in the way you would have hoped for. It's almost over, Daddy. Close your eyes and go to sleep; I'll be here with you, holding your hand and letting you know that everything will be alright. Because it will be, won't it? That's the promise that you made to me-that no matter what happens between us, everything will always turn out okay. I know you don't care much for anything you can't control, but sometimes life folds its cards and we have to go when it's our time. Please stop fighting it, Daddy. It hurts me to see you suffering so much. I've done my best to take care of you, but it's time to go. Hurry along and know that we'll be behind you shortly because I can't live in a world that doesn't have you in it. I love you, Daddy. Always and forever.

Genre: Horror
Type: Book 4 of 5 from Inferno series
POV: First Person - Female
Rating:
3.75 Stars

After years of being under her father’s rule, Darby Greene vowed to spare her children’s lives from the same misery she had to endure. But what in her mind didn’t necessarily translate easily into action, and she would have to choose what’s best for her family or risk losing everything she lived for.

If this is a perfect family, then I hope that before it’s too late, that we start to fracture and fray. I hope that the symmetry of perfection becomes so damaged that he’ll finally understand what he’s done to me.

I liked this story on its own but considering it is part of the series, I was hoping for something fresher because it’s basically the same dynamic all over again. I was also hoping for a more dramatic ending. Thankfully I did find the epilogue depravedly satisfying.

Books in the series:
Sparks (Inferno #0.5) by Yolanda Olson Inferno (Inferno, #1) by Yolanda Olson Cinere (Inferno #2) by Yolanda Olson Embers An Inferno Conclusion (Inferno #2.5) by Yolanda Olson Incendiary (Inferno, #5) by Yolanda Olson

I'm really confused...

This is series horrible and not only because of the sickening story. It is also short so the development of the plot is not the best, however for that same reason I read these books, because they are not long and read very quickly, I can not say that this story is for everyone, it is not even my thing or maybe if I do not know, this is not romance, although it speaks of love in the sickest, most twisted and disgusting way that can exist.

I've been postponing this third part for a long time, because I'm saying again that these are disgusting books, and wtf... was the ending and somehow it wasn't, because there is a spin-off where it will continue the stories of the sick and cursed legacy that Pater left to his descendants.

And of course, I'm going to read them

Just like the rest of the Inferno series, I started reading Embers with a dash of hope still glimmering in the dark depths of my soul. I knew what I was getting into as a dedicated fangirl of this series, but when I heard that Embers was 'The End' (and knowing Yolanda was obviously the author) I can honestly say I had no idea what was coming.

Hell, I didn't even try to predict it because I figured I'd be wrong.

I would never ruin one of Yolanda's books, but I will say that the journey this book took me on, like every other book in this series, was one that had highs and lows. Moments of devastating brightness and bravery, and heavy segments that tore another shred from my soul.

What is it like to read this series, and now reach the end? It's like consciously placing your soul in a blender and happily pressing puree, and then pulse for the heck of it, just to feel the burn. There's a breathtaking brilliance to Yolanda's writing, something about the way she uses the most beautiful language to tell the bleakest moments of human existence in heartbreaking detail.

I know I've said before that these aren't books you enjoy, but books you survive... however, I have to tip my hat on this one and say that I loved how Yolanda brought the world of Inferno to an end.

Tropes: Dark | Crime | Taboo | Horror

I have no words. This series is absolutely sickening but I can’t stop reading these books. They are extremely dark and depraved but also so quick to read that it’s hard NOT to just read the next one. Ah! This is the conclusion to “Pater’s” reign on his children, but it doesn’t end here. Apparently, there is another world out there that has even more of these books in it (including the prequel which I’ll probably read next). It’s not for the faint of heart, these books are NOT, romance. They are taboo horror stories of the worst kind. Read at your own risk!

My review of Inferno #0.5, #1, #2 & #2.5! 💀 {By now the books are numbered #1, #2, #3 and #4.}
Definitely dark, sick and depraved! Absolutely taboo! I liked this series, but I didn’t love it!
The entire series spans decades, which leaves so many holes in the story; I have so so many questions! The most important one: why could this go on for several generations without anybody ever finding out.... or asking questions??
Rating: 5 stars for the darkness and taboo factor; absolutely unique. BUT... did this book blew me away (an absolute requirement for a great book!)?? Nope!
A lot of terrible, horrible, unthinkable things happened, yet, for me, the story was rather superficial and none of the horrors really went into detail; much was left to the imagination of the readers.
So, I'm not impressed about the whole ‘feel’ these 4 very short books gave me. Good job on the taboo and darkness though!
BTW, the page counts of these books on GR is totally wrong! The 4 books in this series are all very short, mere novellas, and could easily have been just one book!

*** Possible spoilers ahead ***

Book #1 (was initially book #0.5) Sparks. Once there was a nun, named Taylee, who makes one mistake in a moment of weakness, gets pregnant... and has to live with the consequences. Taylee loves her son, Luke, very much... and has an incestuous relationship him. In the end, Luke strangles his mother.

Book #2 (initially book #1) Inferno. We meet Jocelyn. Jocelyn is the daughter of a man named Pater and his wife Laura. Pater & Laura have 3 children: Vaughn, Eloy and Jocelyn. Laura is no longer in the picture and Jocelyn has taken over her mother’s ‘tasks’ as wife of Pater and mother for her brothers.
At some point Laura reappears... and dies a horrible death at the hand of her family. And both boys don’t survive the horror, either. Jocelyn and Pater get a daughter, called Darby. We now know Pater = Luke, the boy in book initially #0.5.

Book #3 (initially book #2) Cinere. Pater/Luke’s POV. Jocelyn has fallen out of Luke’s grace and spent most of her time in the Oubliette. Daughter Darby is still a child and is Daddy’s Angel. Luke feels conflicted about Jocelyn, but Jocelyn can do no more good in his eyes. At the end of book #2, it’s clear that Daddy thinks Darby is ready to become his wife.

Book #4 (initially book #2.5) Embers: An Inferno Conclusion. Darby’s POV (rather similar with Jocelyn's story). Jocelyn has died after living another year in the Oubliette. Luke initiated Darby as his new wife. When Darby is 12 years old, she gives birth to her father’s first child; 2 more children follow. Together Luke, Darby, Richter, Skylar and Cleo try to be a happy, normal family… but of course nothing could be further from the truth. Darby tries to fight Luke to defend her children, but in the end she loses everything.
We skip ten years and learn that Luke died of natural causes a few years after Darby died. But… Daddy has prepared his son Richter for the task to carry on the Greene family name and make babies with his sister Skylar.

THE END …. unless Yolanda Olson wants to milk 🐄 this family some more and let history repeat itself??? 🤪

My heart! It was ripped out of my chest and torn into very tiny shreds and stomped on by one of my favorite authors (figuratively speaking, but that’s precisely what I’m feeling right now). Darby and her struggle to choose between the bad and the worst was gut-wrenching to read about. Her poor babies (and particularly little Cleo, who stole my heart) and their miserable existence in the house of a demented tyrant - all this is definitely not for the faint of heart. But the scariest part is that it happens in real life, and this realization is what will send chills down your spine. Devastating and tragic, it’s a story of a broken childhood and the darkness that won’t disappear along with its main carrier. Five stars!

it is just weird, sick, medicore and boring.
And so, so repetitive. Even within the story.

It isn't well written.

I will say this - this is someone's nightmare, most people actually. And I don't get the point of writing this book. I also don't get the lack of real fighting spirit. One of them should have just pushed him into the basement.

Also, and here I'm sorry to burst another bubble, unimaginative and not as horrifying as it tries to portray itself.

Yuck.

If you’re looking for a way to torture yourself, by all means, read this book. Unfortunately, I too was looking for this upon myself.
The story just continues to go downhill, and the fact that this freaking family is still growing and thriving in their universe makes me sick to my stomach.
There is no HEA. Nothing has changed, the same horrible father, the same manipulation, and the corruption that followed. Everything could’ve been stopped if Darby weren’t the cowardly sick daughter who couldn’t draw the knife to slit the bastard’s neck.
I kept wondering why Peter was so intent on having so many children AGAIN when they’re obviously the bane of his existence, but soon I realized that they were his only way to control his daughter, Darby. Just like what he did to her mother before.
But by the ending, we discovered another reason a lot, lot more horrible: as a sort of will to pass down to his trash son before he died, he was able to convince him to continue “his and the Greene family legacy ❤️”….
Burn them all.
Burn them fucking all.
There’s no hope for this disgusting bloodline.

”I can’t help but think that this is how Jocelyn felt before the end too.”
And you ended up the same way, because apparently, stupidity runs in the family.

The end I been anticipating

I was reading another book and while I was in the middle of it I placed it down because Author Yolanda Olson brought to my kindle The End.

I've followed this series from it's prequel to Embers so if you've just stumbled on this go back but bewarned this is a journey best taken with a bookfriend because as the name of the 1st book it is a window to an INFERNO.

This was a gut-wrenching conclusion to Pater's story. Yolanda Olson's skill as a storyteller is inimitable.

Book 1 brought us into this depraved world with Jocelyn's POV.
Book 2 showed us the depraved mind of Pater.
Book 3 showed us Luke - before he became Pater, from his mom Taylee's POV.

Now we've hit end-game and Darby will do anything to protect her children. She is the mother that Jocelyn tried her best to be. Darby knows that Pater's days are running short but the stubborn old goat won't lay down and die.

There is so much I want to say, but I don't want to spoil the story. This is one that you are best going into blind and savoring every last moments with one of the worst father's you'll ever meet.

How does one even begin to review this epic and dark conclusion to such a twisted series? Unexpected, emotional, and an overall jaw dropper. Beyind my wildest expectations and the most perfect way for the series to end. It was everything I have come to love in this series and then some!

This is a series that should have me seriously questioning my sanity and morals for enjoying it so much. However, fear I left them both at the door when I first opened Inferno and sunk headfirst into this world.

I freely admit that my crazy little heart will always have a soft spot for Pater and the carefully woven insanity Yolanda Olson has created. I've been there since the beginning and simply had to be there for the bitter brutal end.

There's no way to warn you, to prepare you for this story. Read Inferno, Cinere and Sparks and know this intense series is finally burning down to Embers, with it turning my heart into ashes as I turned each page.

Good luck, because I can't put into words what's coming...you'll just have to read it.

I felt this character Darcy to be spineless and ...did I mention spineless? Because that's what she was. Yada yada yada this ain't easy yada yada yada BUT none of them were easy for the other girls as well but what she could've done was helped her kids instead of just letting the stream flow.

I wanted to continue reading this Inferno series- continuation of Greene family but really can't after Embers because the plot is just thickening and disgust and woah are the only thing in my mind. I would forever give this whole series 5 star because so damn deserving. I always knew horror to be witches, ghosts and Jins but this kind of psychotic disturbing horror element didn't crossed my mind until this.

Finished Cognati by Elizabeth Gray and the whole Inferno series by Yolanda Olson in a day- just saying- so damn captivating.

Although I love reading about this sick psychopath, things occasionally felt a bit repetitive in this installment. This book is very similar to Jocelyn‘s story, but this time told from Darby’s perspective. It’s also still rampant with typos and punctuation errors. Despite those negatives, it’s such an astoundingly good story that I still felt it deserved 5 stars! I’m sad the series is over, and I’m going to miss these characters!!!

Damnnnnn... Darby was a badass. I liked her and felt so bad for her at the same time.

This whole series is just twisted and fucked up but I can’t help but reading it.

Damn you, Pater. Damn you for getting into Richter’s head. The ending of these books just messes you up even more...

No words... none! I'm stunned, gutted, speechless and blatantly WRECKED!!! After each book there were no happy words, no HEA's and I knew, just knew that this final book would destroy me but I didn't realize how much. I wanted to cry for the heartbreak I felt, at the losses Darby endured but no matter how many blows she took she refused to go without a fight! If you're looking for smiles and rainbows this is not the book for you because you'll get nothing but a dark, taboo story that will hold you captive until the very end!

Bittersweet ending! Pater is just straight up ruthless. He is also almost ethereal in his mind reading abilities. There towards the end I was thinking the absolute worst with the kids. Actually I was thinking the worst with the kids during the entire book. I am shocked he didn't do more. That epilogue with the brother and sister though was just a little taste that I wanted more of. Yolanda is a beast. 5 stars.

This book tore my heart out. I was hopeful that Darby would survive and Daddy would die leaving her and the children to live a semi normal life. Darby had one hell of a backbone to stand up to Daddy and she was such a loving and caring mother. Her children were everything to her. Definitely not the ending I thought would happen. Thank you Yolanda and all the Inferno authors for the best series I have read in a long time.

FUCK NOOO! nooo no no no no!!!

I can read and tolerate a lot of dark, disturbing taboos like incest. But these three novellas made me feel nauseous. From beginning till ending, I hated it. But I'm gonne read the spin-off novellas of the Inferno World, because I wanna know if its still going to be about this sick family.

Blah Blah Blah. That’s what I kept thinking when reading this book and series.
This book was a carbon copy of the book with Jocelyn. Same everything and this book bored me and I skimmed a lot of it. Thankfully it was a short book.
This whole series is very short, about 4.5 hours long in total.
They was loads of discrepancies in this series about Daddy’s hair of all things.
In one book he was nearly gray and in a later one he had a touch of grey to his black hair. I know it’s a small thing but these things make me mad.
This book also gives the impression that he is getting old and weak but then his not and he becomes strong and has loads of energy again. I was trying to work out his age and I’m thinking he must be in his seventies in this book. He was 53 years old when it was with Jocelyn. Add 3 years to when Darby was born and than add 5 years when he threw Jocelyn in the hole. Darby’s oldest was.....ooh who the hell cares....I don’t anymore.

The epilogue was boring too as you know the same things are just going to happen all over again in the exact same way. The ending makes me wonder how these two will cope as you get the impression that they have never been outside of the house or know anything about living in the real world. It’s never explained how or where he earns money to live on??

Overall this series was less than ok. I honestly don’t understand all the 4 and 5 star reviews it got.
I won’t be reading another book by this author any time soon.

Holy hell in a well. What did I just read? Embers by Yolanda Olson brings you back to the infamous Pater and his family with all the horrific good and evilness.

Through out this whole series I was an emotional mess! I was stressed, angry, disgusted and more. I was so drawn into what was going to happen from the very begining to the very end. I read about the family, I felt like a saw Darby grow to the person she is in Embers and watched Pater become how he is. I had to sit back and read about all the things that Pater did and I couldn't help stop any if it. I almost threw my phone several times.
Embers gave me heart palpitations. Even after all my mini strokes, I could not put it down! Darby shows such, love, compassion and strength even with all that she faces.

I am a tad sad to see Inferno series come to a conclusion as these books spark such emotion. You want to take the wheel of the train with both hands holding tightly, and drive full force into the wreck with eyes wide open.

Note this book(s) has dark and distrubing content

This is the conclusion to a series that definitely isn’t for the faint of heart. Some really crappy things happen repeatedly to the characters. Pretty much the worse things you can think of. Pater has lived his life the way he was shown and I feel for him, well for like 5 minutes then I went back to hating him. This is definitely not a series for people with triggers.
I’ve never been so heartbroken from a book as I have with this one! This series has ripped my heart out and stomped on it in stilettos. I know that this author doesn’t have HEA but I was hoping for a halfway happy ending... but if you have read this series then you know that nothing good was gonna happen to any of these characters. There was a moment where I was about to cry and I swear I hated this author. She did have a heart for one of the characters but the rest..... well read for yourself and see.
