Hens and homicides in a cozy slice of paradise.

The world’s most prestigious tiki carving championship has come to Maikai, the cozy little Hawaiian town where Saffron Skye runs her egg farm and Brightblossom Events.

Saffron’s friend Mano is participating in the Kahuna Kalai Championships to determine who is the world’s best tiki carver. Saffron is in charge of the ten-day event, and from the beginning, she is chipping away at mysteries.

First, the tikis are changing. Carvers are complaining that the masks and mugs they carved yesterday don’t look the same today. Is it tiki magic or something more sinister? The judges suspect Mano, and Saffron has three days to clear his name.

But before she can, the championship is interrupted by a terrible discovery: the body of a news reporter. Can Saffron and her broody hen, Cupcake, whittle down the suspects and find the killer?

Home to Roost: Book 5 in the Aloha Chicken Mysteries series of cozy-clean reads . . . with chickens.

It's the island's big tiki carving competition, and Saffron Sky has been hired as the event planner, while her good friend Mano is one of the contestants. While it starts out with some playful one-upping, things go from sunshine to storm when Mano is accused of cheating and someone winds up murdered. Saffron and her broody hen, Cupcake, have to pick through more than one conspiracy to save their friend and ensure a fair and fun competition.

If you liked the previous books in this series, I'd recommend this one too. it has a lot of action and a little romance, but the best part is that all the clues are there so that you can solve the mystery alongside Saffron. I am pleased to report that i suspected the killer before Saffron this time, but it was still great seeing the clues come together and Saffron overcome prejudice and danger to do the right thing. The ending is a bit of a conundrum, but I hope book 6 has more and better things to say on that.

More adventures with Saffron and Cupcake

Every story just gets better.
Mystery and mayhem seem to be all around our heroine.
I am thoroughly enjoying the characters and the Hawaiian culture
being so intertwined.
Very good read.

What fun!

Lots of sunshine, ocean and fun at the annual woodcarvers’ contest. Lots of mystery and intrigue, too. This series provides lots of good times and some interesting chicken facts. May as well learn while you have fun ... and unravel a murder, sabotage, and an art ring!

Wonderful!!

I just love this series. This book had me caught up and turning pages. Some moments felt bittersweet as hearing from the past and what could have been. But there was a sense of excitement as time moves forward. This new adventure was fun...learning about tiki carving and competition and all the different personalities. There were moments where I gasped and moments where I laughed. I'm looking forward to seeing where island life takes us next.

It was a good book to kill time and an okay book as for the mystery. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to someone.

The pet hen was cute. The Tiki competition was unique and intriguing. Plus, I learned a lot about Hawaiian culture. I couldn't guess some plot twists, but it felt more due to the convenient set-up rather than an excellent mystery plot. Still, the story was cozy and I enjoyed reading it.

Tiki, or not tiki....

Saffron is challenged with planning a prestigious tiki carving competition in her new hometown and some of the carvers are cut- throat and no one is above suspension.

Was It Done By a Tiki God?

Once again, strange things were happening at Saffron's event. Another story with surprising twists and turns. Also, find out what Cupcake, the hen, was doing.

now to wait for the rest of them to be turned into audio-books and for the library to get them. Not bad reads at all. Fun stories.

Another good installment in this series, but I really wish the author didn't end her books in such a rush.

Great book

This is another great book in the Aloha Chicken series by Josi Avari. You just have to love a story where the main character carries around a Chicken in a backpack.

Fire the editor

I love the chicken books. I have learned a lot about chickens and Hawai'i as well. And I will continue with the series. I found a few typos in the first books, but this one takes the cake. Lack of capital letters at the beginning of sentences drives me nuts. (Hint: When someone speaks, even in the middle of a sentence, capitalize the first letter of the first spoken word.) As bad as that crime against the written word is the horrible punctuation. No periods and periods where they don't belong are basic writing mistakes. Does no one read these books before they are put out?
I read a ton and seeing these blatant mistakes chaps my cookies.
