Lazlo Lemur is nervous about his first day at a new school, especially when he goes to music class. His teacher expects him to learn a new instrument, but there are so many things to remember...will he EVER get it right?
Play--and learn--along with Lazlo in this interactive musical tale!
“Lazlo Learns Recorder” by Vicky Weber is a fun story about friendship, being a new kid at school and music! With step-by-step instructions on how to play the recorder, elementary school students will love this interactive tale!
The story opens with Lazlo the Lemur (don’t you just love that name) and his very first day at a new school. Lazlo is nervous but his worries soon disappear as his teacher is warm and welcoming, and he quickly makes a new friend. The highlight of his first day is music class! Lazlo’s eyes almost pop out of his head as he beholds the beautiful instruments in the music room. The kids can barely contain their excitement when Miss Marmoset gives them each a recorder – how cool is that?! Lazlo struggles at first but soon becomes a wonderful musician who will only improve with practice, and he eagerly looks forward to his next music class!
I love this new book by Vicky Weber! The story is a unique, fun-filled, interactive adventure. Learning a new instrument can be intimidating, as we see when Lazlo first begins his lesson. The author gently promotes the importance of practice and though positive reinforcement and validation of his efforts, Lazlo learns to combine multiple skills to create beautiful musical notes.
The illustrations are absolutely adorable. immediately. Colorful, bright and whimsical, the pictures are such an important element of this story, including detailed drawings of how to hold the recorder and where to place your fingers to play certain notes. Illustrator Masha Klot really delivers the concept of Weber’s story to perfection! The characters are fun and friendly and will appeal to kids of all ages!
For a wonderful story about being a new kid at school, the value of friendship and learning to play a musical instrument, I highly recommend “Lazlo Learns Recorder” by Vicky Weber. The only drawback I can think of is music stores might run out of recorders – kids will definitely want their own and learn to play along. I know I want one!
This is a great book! Not only do the illustrations look incredible (and adorable) but they do an excellent job of demonstrating musical concepts. It can be a challenge for young kids to understand musical notes and how to play an instrument but this book makes it simple. The story is great too because it shows kids that even if they don’t get something at first they should keep trying and working in order to eventually be successful.
this book, i have been finding some really great reads, kiddie reads in KU lately ...this one is a must read and such amazing great illustrations!! well done!! check it out. so fun.
Such a beautifully illustrated book about a lemur named Lazlo. This book is so much fun. I remember learning recorder when I was in elementary school. Your child can learn to play their own recorder as a fun addition to the story!
I LOVE the illustrations and the interactive parts of the story! Music is so important and this is a great story to get children interested in learning an instrument!
This is an adorable children’s story about a lemur named Lazlo who starts a new school and gets to learn how to play recorder in music class. I enjoyed reading the story to my son and thought it had several valuable lessons hidden in the story. First, the book encourages a love of music (which my son definitely has) and second, it shares insight into starting a new school and making new friends. My son, age two, loved the story. He pointed to the pictures as we read and identified what he knew, asked questions about what he didn’t. The illustrations are beautiful, colorful, and highly detailed. The cover is very eye-catching and offers an accurate depiction of what readers should expect to find inside the book.
This book is about how Lazlo enjoys learning to play the recorder with his new friend Amina on his first day of forest school.
This book is an interesting read. It teaches us two important lessons: 💡 Never be afraid to try new things 💡 If you keep trying and trying, anything is possible!
I love the illustrations. They are very cute. My sister and I really enjoyed reading this book. I recommend this entertaining book to kids of ages 4 to 8. 😊
Loved the safe and playful world created in this book! Lazlo, an adorable and like-able lemur character, learns not only how to play a recorder, but also how to continue to try, receive instruction, and find joy in the journey of learning new instrument. The expertise of the author is very evident as well as her love for children and music. Great book and read!
This story really took me back. I remember how difficult it was, as a child, to learn to read notes. You are young and your fingers and hands are moving in ways they have not before. The whole time I was reading, I wished I had a recorder to try out what I was learning! I can’t put into words how cute the illustrations are. They really need to be experienced firsthand...
This is such an adorable Children's book. Beautifully illustrated. Very well written. It reminded me of my children when they were young. They all played the recorder. This book brings in important concepts of music, practicing and having fun while your learning.
Little Lazlo is new at school and anxious to make friends. When it was music time, the teacher introduces the class to a unique new instrument, a recorder. Lazlo struggles to learn to play but never gives up. He soon learns to love the music he is making. Great upbeat story of perseverance.
I played clarinet for seven years and this book brought me back to that second grade experience. This book give a great message that learning an instrument can be difficult and frustrating, but if you stick to if you can do well. The illustrations were adorable!
What a lovely story of not giving up and continuing to try something new! Beautifully illustrated and designed and a musical lesson attached. Readers can enjoy Lazlo’s first music class, introduction to playing the recorder and the opportunity to follow along with their own recorder at home!
My family and I love music so this was a big hit! I really liked the characters and the illustrations were great. I have two boys in grade school and it is a great read before going back too school and helping them overcome them being shy and helping them learn something new!
Encourage your child’s musical talent and interest!
This book encourages your children to have an interest in playing a musical instrument. It also demonstrates that, with determination and patience, you can achieve whatever you put your mind to. It’s a well-written book and the illustrations are awesome.
All of Vicky’s books inspire children to play, understand and enjoy music, and to never give up, which is an encouraging message.
A fun and encouraging story about music, animals and learning new things. Bold and vibrant illustrations. I’ve never read a children’s book like this one, a very different and musical story for children to enjoy. Showing children that it’s ok to be the new child at school, to be confident, and never give up.
This is a wonderful story about persistence! Readers will be inspired to learn to make music on their own recorders, just like Lazlo. The illustrations and characters are adorable!
I LOVE how this book shows that recorder doesn't always sound pretty and that it takes time to get better. I also really enjoy how there are opportunities for students to play along with the characters.
This is a beautifully colourful story about learning a new skill. Whilst most of the story is general, it does take you through learning the first 2 notes on the recorder. My kids loved this and after their previous squawks, I loved the instructions to breathe gently.
Absolutely recommend this book for all music teachers who are not sure how to support those reluctant students. A cute, nicely illustrated story that many kids will relate to.
