Nicole Thomas runs her antique store as she runs her life - risk-free. She's determined to protect her grandmother and sister, even if it means her own desires must go unanswered. Her father died pursuing dangerous thrills, and she'll never abandon those in her care as he abandoned her.
Andrew "Ace" Conners returns to Reliance, Montana, to settle the affairs of Aunt Millie - the woman who should have rescued him eighteen years ago following the death of his alcoholic mother. Ace knows the love of family is not for him, but Nicole determines to unlock his heart. He can't help falling in love with the dynamic, compassionate woman, and yet he knows his life is full of risks - risks Nicole can't bear to take. Could their hearts be crying out for the very thing they fear most?
Linda Ford grew up devouring books and making up stories in her head—often late at night when she couldn't sleep. But she hadn't planned to write. Instead, she dreamed of running an orphanage. In a way, that dream came true. She married, had four homemade children, adopted ten and lived (at times, endured) the dream.
Writing first took her to non-fiction human-interest articles for newspapers and eventually a non-fiction book about tuberculosis set in the 1930s and 1940s (Touched By The White Plague). But romance had always been her first love and she turned to writing love stories. She is multi-published in the CBA market.
She lives on a small ranch in Alberta, Canada, where she can see the mountains every day. She and her husband continue to enjoy their children and grandchildren.
Cry of My Heart by Linda Ford is the first book of the Christian romance Montana Skies series. In this one Nicole Thomas runs an antique store and Andrew Conners returns to their town to settle his aunt's affairs. To be honest this one rubbed me the wrong way from the opening moments these two meet up with Nicole constantly giving Andrew a hard time, she hadn't seen him in years but felt she knew all about him. So yes, not for me.
"....life offers us all sorts of options and challenges. The trick is to know which ones to pursue and then be content with our choices. God promises to guide us. And no matter what we decide, His love is ever present.”
She would do her best to love him back to God and family.
She had her priorities. First, her faith. She would never love a man who didn't trust and serve God.
Reading that first quote, the first thing that came to mind was 'Pray the Gay Away.' (and yes, I know Andrew/Ace wasn't gay, but I couldn't stop myself thinking about 'Interventions' and so on.)
And what was with that 'never loving a man who didn't trust and serve God' ??? Get real.
In the end I dnf'd at 44%. There was no depth to either of the characters, or any reason to care about them, especially as Nicole was adamant that she could only love a man who served God. The plot with the Aunt who abandoned Ace when he was 13 was ludicrous really - surely 'God' wouldn't have made her do that? ;)
I didn't like the story - there was nothing new or original in the plot, no conflict or tension, and I didn't care enough about selfish Nicole to want to see how she 'loved' Ace back to his family and God (difficult to do, considering he had no left family at all!)
I started this book on April 12, 2020 and finished it on April 14, 2020. It was a good read, quick, and down to the point. I gave it three stars because it took so long for Nicole and Ace to both get their heads out of the clouds and realize life is what life is, it's not predictable or safe. I felt for Ace because of his youth spent in foster care and him thinking none of his family wanted him. Nicole was just frustrating because she had this idea that life is predictable and she can manage it how she wants for her own purposes while not thinking of how it affects anyone else. Gram knew the whole time what was going to happen and I enjoyed her quirky attitude.
Nicole and Andrew/Ace knew each other as kids, but then life separated them. Now adults, they meet again. Nicole is now an overly cautious woman, afraid of getting hurt, and Ace is now a man who believes he isn't lovable and runs away from love when it is offered to him.
During settling his aunt's estate, Ace learns that she did want him, but the authorities decided he was better off elsewhere. Ace also persuades Nicole to take some risks with her business, but can he convince her to take the risk of loving him?
This book revolves around a risk-adverse woman taking out a large bank loan as a symbol of trusting God. But the truth is that the Bible very clearly says that the borrower is slave to the lender. Nowhere does it suggest that borrowing is a good thing. I fear that the arguments in favor of borrowing money, as a sign of trust in the Almighty, will encourage otherwise prudent readers to go into debt. Rarely if ever have I read a book that so carefully and persuasively teaches a doctrine that is so contrary to the Word of God.
I love to fine a good, clean interesting love story. One that I am not worried about recommending to others. A Cry of the Heart is a very good book. It's interesting, sweet, clean and has a great life lesson. If you love someone, you don't try to change them. That's not our job. Pray for them and let God lead you and them. The two main characters had a lot of bad things happen in their past they had to get over. Their closeness and childhood history, helped them to grow and get through this.
What a great story! You have broken hearts getting healed and you get a ring-side seat to watch it happen. I loved how it was a full story but didn't drag. For example, she wanted to ask Grams a question, and as soon as she mentioned it to Ace, she did ask. It was an important question. The story deals with what's important: faith, family, belonging, love. I highly recommend!!!
First time author for me. The book had a solid story but it wasn’t enough to keep my interest. I skimmed about 2/3 of the book and found myself only reading certain parts. This is a Christian fiction and I found it centered more on Gods word than the story at times, which is great if I’m reading a devotional. I wouldn’t discourage others from trying as each person likes are their own.
I went into this knowing it was a Christian Romance, so I was expecting it to be pretty tame and mostly about love and not sex. This was fine and I actually liked the overall story plot and writing style, but it has way too much "God is the best", "God will fix everything", literally every other page for my liking. It felt way too preachy even for a Christian Romance. Unless you are a very, very devout Christian, I'd skip this one. I'll avoid this author from now on.
A young woman who has lost her father, then her mom and stepfather just wants a safe life. She's taking care of her grandmother and little sister and runs a business in their small town. The nephew of her deceased neighbor returns home to clean up the house, they have history. Will they have a future?
GOD has a plan for each of us. We all have hang ups and when we face them head on it is not easy. It's easy to say you are trusting in JESUS, but do we really do it. Than is what I saw in this book. She never let go of GOD or HIS mercy, but she stood her ground for HIM and the battle was won for the both of them. Put it at the foot of the cross and give it all to HIM
First of all, I chose this book because it was recommended by kindle unlimited and it is a series! Yes this book was exciting and interesting enough to draw me in to read book #2. I especially loved and enjoyed how it ended I totally wasnt expecting that type of ending, but glad to have had it like that! Ha! No spoilers here!
This storyline was interesting and well developed. The characters were interesting nd their interaction seem to change them over time. I liked how they slowly, without really knowing began to change in their view of where their relationship could go. I loved reading this book.
Good story with likable characters that you root for to learn to trust God and to trust each other. Characters have much in common when it comes to loss but will they risk their hearts and trust in love? Overall good but a bit long in resolving their issues
When the young man, from so long ago, comes back to clear out memories. He learns that what he wanted and needed was there all along. The young girl, next door, can't believe how someone doesn't want family. Her whole life she depended, protected the two people who means so much to her. Even give up on her own happiness to care for them.
Wonderful story, a great journey home, and for Ace, a chance to get back to God. For Nicole a second chance at love, but she needed to see that he is worth the risk. Great start on a new series (I have now read 10% of the author’s library of over 200 books in 25 years).
Nicole lost her father at an early age and never wanted to feel the aching hurt again. So she didn't take risks. Andrew, Ace, lost his mother at 12 and wanted his Aunt Millie to take him in. Unbeknownst to Ace, the system did not allow Aunt Millie to take him in nor was she allowed to write or call him. Nicole and Ace both had trust issues and loss of love but finally love wins out
Nicole was afraid to take risks, Ace was a risk-taker . Nicole believed firmly in God Ace did not. How could a relationship last between them? I enjoyed this book a lot. It kept me guessing.
Great book about opposites - and how sometimes the oppositeness is caused by decisions made after past tragedies. Once the issues are dealt with the bridge of compromise is built and people can move forward.
I really enjoyed this book with it's different type of love story. It was fun watching the characters soften their hearts to become the partners each needed. Definitely recommend this book.
Enjoyed the book as each of the principle characters found their way out of the past hurts. My only negative is that there were characters and scenarios that were introduced, but not developed. All in all, it was entertaining.
I found it interesting in Nicole's character how she wanted to control circumstances n not take risks to the extent protecting others when she isn't God but human. In life people make choices whether we like them or not. We want to belong it is a built in dna want. Got this book through bookclub.
Anxiety is the fear of the unknown. Both main characters have difficulty with trust issues. When they understand understand true faith, they are free to love each other.
Kinda Ford is one of my favorite authors. I rarely read anything She has a gift of gently but firmly stating/reminding me of God’s truth. Every book I come away somehow healed/freed a little (or a lot) more from things that have skewed my vision and/or heart.
