God, Trump, and the 2020 Election: Why He Must Win and What's at Stake for Christians if He Loses

Rate this book
From the best-selling author of God and Donald Trump, which was brandished by the president at the World Economic Forum in Davos

What’s at stake in this election?

EVERYTHING.

In 2016 God raised up Donald Trump to lead America at a pivotal time. Evangelicals who recognized this backed him more than any other presidential candidate in history. Heading into 2020, the stakes in his reelection are even higher. This election, nine months after this book releases, is a new fight for the soul of America. Stephen E. Strang makes the case that God wants America to be great because God has raised up America—beginning with our Founding Fathers—to be a beacon of light and hope for the world. We’ve been the nation with religious liberty that has supported those who have spread the gospel around the world.

In this book Strang looks at the election, Trump, and America from a spiritual perspective and helps Christians (and others) see God’s hand at work. This book is as much about God and His purposes as about Donald Trump. But it is also an articulate, impassioned apologetic about why all Christians must support this imperfect president, because he has God’s blessing and because the destiny of America is riding on his reelection. This book also explores why he might lose, if his base is overconfident and doesn’t vote or if his opponents are dishonest enough to steal the election.

God, Trump, and the 2020 Election is an inside look at how the political climate is affected by  spiritual warfare—an important subject for Bible-believing Christians. The satanic schemes are so brazen on key issues that the book was written to explain what’s at stake. Strang believes that the intersection of faith and politics needs to be part of the national discussion about the division in our country.

Jesus would be appalled! This isn’t Christianity, this is using Christianity in order to promulgate one's subjective beliefs. Which means this is fascism. According to Strang: the means towards an end are irrelevant and nothing, no matter how antithetical towards the teachings of Jesus, should come between the reaching of said end. This is why people nowadays hate Christians and Christianity, because they pick and choose their morals to suit their means. They hijack perennial topical slogans from the bible and claim them as omniscient while disregarding all the other sentences that follow because of their inherent absurdity.

In the U.S of A. no religion is better nor more important than any other - specifically Christianity!

The author lays out a great case for why Trump should be re-elected and merits the continued support of evangelical Christians. Why President Trump should gain even more support among the part of the voting bloc that has reservations. He points out that Trump has made good on many promises....from upholding the American ideal of religious freedom, nominating excellent justices to the bench, being a very pro-life POTUS, boosting the economy, and protecting our border.

What I like about this book is that the author is not trying to cover up the flaws of our POTUS. Specifically private failures in his past, and that many don't care for his brash use of social media in the present. But despite imperfections God can use imperfect people to raise them up at the right time to lead. Using King Cyrus as a prime example. Also paralleling Trump with the likes of Winston Churchill, who up until hard times where they needed a fighter was not well thought of at all in the U.K.

The strength of this book is really showing that there is certainly a spiritual battle going on here. All presidents face political opposition no doubt. But the opposition against President Trump is probably the most vicious since Lincoln. So I hope a Christian reading this book would walk away realizing that what's going on in our culture is part of a broader spiritual battle. We literally are dealing with an entire body of people who want to use political means to teach our kids or culturally promote all sorts of ungodly things. So never let a progressive get away with the statement "you're trying to impose your morality through legislation."

What I disliked about this book is that there is a heavy Charismatic bent to it. My one criticism of charismatics is while they're passionate they often lack discernment and let nearly everything through the filter. While reading I had to keep reminding myself that I didn't need to argue internally with some of the content. For example one of President Trumps advisors is someone I have sharp disagreements with, as do many evangelical leaders. The book also takes some odd turns which felt like fillers to me regarding prophecy. The book lost its focus for a bit. Just my view.

I recommend this book for the progressive who just doesn't get why evangelicals support President Trump. I recommend this book for those Christians who are on the fence as to what do with their vote in 2020. I hope it persuades you to vote for President Trump. I also recommend this book for Christians just to see a brief track record of the positive things President Trump has accomplished because it will be uplifting to review. Lord knows you won't find any mention of his positive record via mainstream (and biased) outlets.

On a personal note......I genuinely appreciate that President Trump has given a legitimate seat at the table to evangelicals. Where prior to him republicans all the way back to Reagan gave the evangelical base mere platitudes and we'd largely be forgotten about until the next election. I think the President has done very good things for our country. He's fighting for the right things amidst tremendous and often wicked opposition. We should wisely and prayerfully be in his corner.

Having said that we as the church need to have discernment on when we should applaud the "King Cyrus" like moments and when we need to be a Nathan like prophet to King David. We need to remember that our hope doesn't reside in D.C. and that our flag needs to remain planted in the gospel of Jesus Christ. No matter where the winds of culture go.

This is pablum for Trump's evangelical base, not truth.

I started reading this book to get an idea of why white Christian Evangelicals give undying loyalty to Trump, no matter what he does or says. The book was written in 2019, before covid, before RGB's death. The author paints all Democrats (called "the Left") with a broad, extremist brush:

"The Left’s loathing of Trump has been given a name: Trump Derangement Syndrome. But the Left also loathes conservatives who favor traditional values because we don’t go along with their radical agendas of socialistic government control, abortion on demand for any reason leading up to the day of birth, and the belief that sexually anything goes, with anyone, at any time."

I don't know any Democrat who would agree with any of the statements above. Instead of "Trump Derangement Syndrome" I would label Democrats' lothing of the current president "Trump Lying Syndrome." The book's author doesn't realize that Trump lies to his evangelical base just as he lies to everyone. All the evangelicals care about is Trump's apparent support of "religious liberty, life of the unborn, and Israel."

My conclusion after having read 1/3 of the book is that white evangelicals will continue to support their Liar in Chief as long as he issues "religious liberty" (read "right to discriminate against LGBTQ and pro-choice") executive orders; promotes "originalists" to the federal courts; and backs Netanyahu (despite Israel's treatment of Palestinians and illegal settlements on the West Bank).

Christian Evangelicals want to establish Christian-style Sharia Law in the United States. Certainly not what our founding fathers envisioned.

God save us all!

How can the left and the right see something as black vs. white? This book is so far right if you pushed the author he’d fall right over.

Matthew 7:3 - And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?

Twisted view in this book, says this Christian.

I received a complimentary ARC

The book as so much to offer any fan of Trump. With facts and a bit of biased it makes for a very interesting read. It really covers all aspects of the elections points in a religious way and can be a perfect read for some while it would be a little off putting for non Trump supporters. Personally I do not like to put religion and politics into any of my conversations so to be able to have an author who strongly believes and get its out there is amazing.

I have the admitted advantage of reviewing this book in November 2022, after Trump did indeed lose the White House and also caused a calamitous ’22 midterm cycle for his party. Back before COVID, author Stephen Strang confidently asserted that his idol would easily win reelection. What’s more, that this is what an all-powerful God also wanted. God had chosen and “raised up” a brash real estate guy and brusque billionaire to win TWO TERMS. “God has His hand on Donald Trump,” he exults over and over. Strang cites a number of Pentecostal prophets whose vision pipelines to heaven led them to also guarantee a thumping Trump victory. “We’re going to win 2020,” one boasts. “God told me this.” On top of that, the Democratic Left, he says, is directly led and fueled by Satan himself in what Strang dubs “spiritual warfare.” He touts similar volumes with nihilistic titles like “Dark Agenda: The War to Destroy Christian America.” Here’s a direct quote: “The Democratic Party has become a political institution of evil and is hell-bent on pulling down what remains of America’s Christian heritage and culture.”
What are we to deduce here? If God actually picks presidents and installs them, He apparently not only wanted Trump in the White House, He also wants Biden to rise up and give him the boot, and God also planned for both Obama and the sick, evil Bill Clinton to occupy the Oval Office for two terms each. All through this blustering book, God is reduced to impotence in a titanic struggle between good and evil, unable to achieve His divine will. Apparently God can do nothing about the reality that His chosen side has lost the popular vote in seven out of eight national elections.
I believe Strang to be a devout Christian and a man whose heart is earnestly in the right place. But this book of failed predictions is also utterly cynical, often unkind, and either calculating or hopelessly naïve. He claims that the entire Democratic party is hurtling toward total anarchy and socialism, that the Left would “outlaw all beef [and] eliminate air travel.” The book routinely describes liberal Americans as name-calling . . . and then Strang employs whole strings of pejoratives to describe his own host of enemies. He claims that Donald Trump having flaws makes him an ideal leader. Huh? (He certainly does not give Hillary Clinton that same starry-eyed pass.) He offers up absurd “theology” by right-wing shark Ralph Reed, who glibly explains: “If someone is self-righteous and convinced of their own goodness, they won’t feel the need to redeem their past by bearing good fruit and doing great deeds. But if they have experienced real failure or a major setback in their lives, they are more likely to approach leadership or service redemptively.” Okay. If any man in America is convinced of his own goodness, it’s President Trump. Has he ever once breathed a word about redeeming his past? Said he’s sorry for his sins or for cheating on Melania? Repented of anything? Does he now bear good fruit in his own personal conduct . . . or does he drop as many F-bombs in 2022 as he ever did? Does Donald Trump, in the wake of the January 6 insurrection, now approach service redemptively? Is he indeed a humble Matthew 25 feed-the-hungry servant of gentle Jesus meek and mild?
Just asking.
Two more points. There’s a truly bizarre chapter where Strang not only quotes his modern-day prophet/pals, but also cites numerology as heavenly proof that God has picked Donald Trump as His chosen Savior. President Trump was born exactly seven hundred days before the rebirth of Israel, Strang breathlessly gushes. On his first day in office, he was 70 years old, 7 months, and 7 days. And inaugurated in the Hebrew year 5777. So many sevens! Divinely cool! How can the minor blot of “grab women by the p---y” compete with that?
Finally, let us reflect on one reality. Whether or not God in heaven wanted a second term for Trump, one person stood in the way of all heaven’s blueprints . . . and it certainly wasn’t Nancy Pelosi. Or George Soros. Time after time in the tumult of 2020, Trump’s most trusted advisors leaned across the Resolute Desk and told their commander-in-chief he was going to lose IF HE DIDN’T PERSONALLY REFORM HIMSELF AND ACT NICER. “People are sick of your tweets and your divisiveness,” Attorney General Bill Barr told him as sternly as a sycophant can. “You’re forfeiting votes by millions here. You’re going to lose.”
But Trump either could not or would not change. His loss by seven million votes was a decisive landslide and just wages for his needlessly foolish and self-serving behavior. And God in heaven, who loves America and even this defiant man now banished to Mar-a-Lago – but also gives people and nations free will to choose better – could only grieve the squandered opportunity.

THE PROMINENT EVANGELICAL TOO HASTILY PREDICTED TRUMP’S VICTORY IN 2020

Journalist and Founder/President of Charisma Media Stephen E. Strang wrote in the Introduction to this 2020 book, “I’m writing this book nearly a year before the next election because I believe that Donald Trump MUST and WILL win… This book explains why Evangelicals should support Trump for a second term based on the facts of what he has done for our base in the first term, what he WILL do in his second term, and what is at stake for Christians if the opposing side wins. In a word, this book is about God and His purposes as it relates to Donald Trump and his second term. It’s about Trump’s vision to reverse the loss of American sovereignty and prosperity—a vision I believe he received from God… God has raised up this nation… to be a beacon of light and hope for the world… As a Christian journalist I will expound on the Christian concept of grace and how it relates to the presidency… Ultimately I am looking at the election, Trump, and America from what I believe is God’s perspective in order to help Christians (and others) see God’s hand at work… If you are a Christian, I hope this book gives you a biblical understanding of what God is doing. I also hope it is an articulate, impassioned treatise on why all Christians must support President Trump. My ultiimate goal is that … you will be convinced, as I am, that the destiny of America is riding on Trump’s reelection.” (Pg. xvi)

In the first chapter, he acknowledges, “Even though Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton, our Constitution set up a system in the electoral college that protects the small states from being overpowered by the more populous states. Trump won because he took three states the Democrats thought were in their pocket: Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. But he only won by roughly eighty thousand votes spread over all three states---less than 1 percent in each state. ‘This was not a blowout,’ said Ralph Reed.” (Pg. 2)

He outlines, “So what are the issues that will bring out voters on the Right?... ABORTION: A huge concern is stopping late-term abortion and being certain we have a president who will nominate conservative U.S. Supreme Court justices … ISRAEL AND THE MIDDLE EAST: … For many Christians… this is the top policy issue… RELIGIOUS FREEDOM: Many Evangelicals believe religious liberty… is under severe attack---especially by the courts… SUPREME COURT JUSTICES: … typically viewed through the lens of whether the nominee is an originalist or a postmodernist… [and will] let left-leaning judges accomplish their goals, such as finding ‘rights’ in the Constitution … on the issues of same-sex marriage and abortion, for instance. IMMIGRATION:… Modern immigration policy, with its emphasis on multiculturalism, is a looming Tower of Babel disaster… JUSTICE: This is one area where Evangelicals often find commonality with the Left because justice is important in the Bible… Trump has provided valuable leadership to this important issue of reforming our criminal justice system to give nonviolent offenders a second chance at life.” (Pg. 7-8)

He also outlines, “Eight Reasons Trump Could Lose: 1. Overconfidence… 2. Social Media Censorship.. 3. Voter Fraud… 4. Ballot Harvesting… 5. Economic Collapse… 6. More War in the Middle East… 7. Evangelical Never Trumpers… 8. Division Fatigue Syndrome… the steady drumbeat of negative press coverage but also because of the president’s combative tweets.” (Pg. 16-24)

He asserts, “Black Christians share so many core values with Republicans that I find it hard to understand why they still vote Democratic. I know Republicans are often viewed as being racially insensitive…” (Pg. 34)

He contends, “God imposed biblical borders, but people hate them… They want to be able to kill babies if the pregnancy is unwanted; they want to be able to end it even though they are ending a human life. Sexually they want to do anything with anyone at any time. They don’t realize that God created boundaries as a means of protection. If one nation gets out of line, borders make it difficult for them to spread their poison… their evil ways to the next country…geographical borders are permitted by God and even blessed by God. He establishes nations.” (Pg. 46)

He suggests, “Donald Trump isn’t perfect and is sometimes misunderstood and maligned in the press. But evangelical Christians know that God can use people despite their imperfections.” (Pg. 75) He adds, “I didn’t vote for someone who promised to live a Christian lifestyle. I voted for someone who promised to defend MY right to live that way. Why, then, when we support Trump do we feel the need to give a disclaimer that we don’t necessarily agree with all his tweets but we admire his policies and what he has accomplished? Maybe because we don’t see the bigger principles at work.” (Pg. 79-80)

He cites Pastor Jim Garlow's article of “talking points… that you can use with family and friends ... who need to be sold on supporting Donald Trump in 2020: … refusing to vote… merely increased the Democrats’ chances of winning the presidency… the privilege of appointing additional conservative Supreme Court justices… Trump continues to surround himself with good people, including Christian Vice President Mike Pence… the Left’s relentless push for globalism… Democrats continue to push an agenda where there are no limits to a woman’s right to kill her unborn child… Donald Trump is building a strong military…” (Pg. 90-92) He acknowledges, there are other issues… One is the nation’s overwhelming debt, which Trump has not been able to bring down yet… he simply hasn’t focused on it thus far.” (Pg. 95)

He asserts, “The number of prophecies about Donald Trump, many of which have gone viral, is one of the reasons Trump received so much support from the Christian community, especially Charismatics and Pentecostals… there is also a sense that somehow, someway, God is behind this real estate developer from Queens.” (Pg. 149-150) Later, he adds, “Those prophecies may sound ridiculous or impossible to some people, but Trump was elected---just as the prophets had said… somehow, some way, God intervened in that [2016] election and saved us from ‘corrupt Hillary’ becoming president.” (Pg. 156)

Paula White Cain gave a prayer, and “while the Christians who agreed with Paula were rejoicing, the secular press took her apart … mostly because she used the phrase ‘demonic network,’ which they misunderstood. I assume most of their readers never heard of taking authority over networks of evil forces … it didn’t resister with me until later that the news media would assume she was bashing the fake media.” (Pg. 158-159)

He laments, “white [church] congregants tend to be Republican, and the black, members tend to be Democrat. Why is this?... Democrats have for the past century supported the policies important to black Americans, such as civil rights, the desire for prison reform, or governmental programs for the poor. As a result, the black community overlooks the ‘faults’ of Democrats, such as their many liberal policies. In fact studies have shown that black Christians align with white conservative Christians on most moral issues, but they will vote Democrat by huge percentages. However… that is beginning to change…” (Pg. 178)

He concludes, “I believe God spoke to prophets over the years, telling them that He would play the ‘trump card.’ … The prophets were right in 2016, even if right up until the votes were counted, everyone else expected Hillary Clinton to win. I believe the prophets will be right again this time and that in 2020 Donald Trump will win a second term… God raised up this man to lead our nation, and I believe Donald Trump will win a second term to complete the work he started---because I believe God has spoken.” (Pg. 201, 203)

Strang went even further ‘out on a limb’ in this book than in his 2017 book, ‘God and Donald Trump.’ (But see his hurriedly-written follow-up, ‘God, Trump, and COVID-19,’ for an update.)

I know this book is 4 years out-of-date, but for US Christians, it is still a must-read with another Presidential election looming. Stephen Strang gives very lucid reasons for supporting Trump. A lot of what he predicted before the last election has come to pass, to the detriment of the USA. Only a strong President like Trump can stand up to the attacks of the enemy. This enemy is not physical but spiritual, which explains the intense hatred that manifests when some people hear Trump's name. Strang gives a very full list of the prophets who were told ahead of time that Trump would win the 2016 election. He also discusses the state of the present-day church and how it has become so secular. I found it an interesting and enlightening read.

5 stars: The author's ability to accurately assess the current political landscape, especially that of the Democratic party. Also his documentation of what Trump had actually accomplished in his first 3 years. (Pre-Covid-19)

1 star: The guilt trip thrown my way for not voting for Trump. Also, dispensationalism to the max. Mentioning Dr. James White and Dr. Michael Brown... Good. Constantly referring to Paula White's prophecies over Trump...Bad.

This was a excellent book. It talked about the Trump accomplishments while president and those who oppose him.

I liked the way the author made a number of Biblical prophetic references to Donald Trump.

The main message is that it is important for those who believe in God to get out and vote this year. The two parties are so different this year that the ramification of this election will have a significant effect on all of our citizens.

Motivational

Voting is the most fundamental right citizens have, and this book gives insight to the choices on the presidential candidates for the 2020 ballot. If Christian American values are important to you, then this is a ‘must read.’
