The Neighbor

Rate this book
On a day when nothing seems to be going Lucy's way, she just wants to binge watch her favorite TV show and inhale a couple—okay, a dozen—cupcakes. But the black cloud that’s followed her all day makes another appearance when she realizes she’s out of sugar. Resigning herself to the fact that she'll have to ask a neighbor for some neighborly help if she wants those cupcakes, she sets out to do just that.

When a dripping wet and freshly showered hottie she’s definitely never seen before answers her impatient knock, she’s rendered speechless. Okay, not speechless, because that’d be far, far too easy for her. Instead she humiliates herself in typical Lucy fashion, then bails, certain if she tries hard enough she can go the rest of her life without running into Hot Neighbor Guy again.

Too bad for Lucy her neighbor isn’t so easily deterred.

Award-winning USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brighton Walsh spent nearly a decade as a professional photographer before taking her storytelling in a different direction and reconnecting with her first love: writing. When she’s not lost in her own made up worlds, she’s probably either reading or shopping—maybe even both at once. She lives in the Midwest with her real life hero of a husband, her two kids—both taller than her—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. Her boy-filled house is the setting for dirty socks galore, frequent dance parties (okay, so it's mostly her, by herself, while her children look on in horror), and more laughter than she thought possible. SUPER FAST REVIEW:
A cute and humorous comedy full of awkward situations and dirty humor. The story is simple and honestly very little more than porn. As a whole though this book works as a bit of fun to read, admittedly slightly immature fun but fun.

This novella is why I turn to short books to get out of and prevent major reading slumps!! Lucy and Matt are funny, sexy, and sweet characters that are all about instant-lust and I was completely here for it!

This was my first Brighton Walsh book and I don't intend for it to be my last. This was just such a fun and enjoyable read. It was funny, sexy, and so easy to read. The chemistry between the two lead characters, Lucy and Matt, just jumps off the pages. The sexy banter between the two is priceless. My only complaint is it was just too short. It is one of those times I didn't want to see the end come.

The Neighbor by Brighton Walsh is a really short and fast read. Lucy had a bad day and all she wants is some cupcakes. However, she is out of sugar, so she has to ask her new neighbor for some. Instead of asking him for sugar she embarrasses herself in front of him and flees.

What can I say about a book that did not even have 100 pages? I was surprised when the book ended, because I did not know that it was that short. A better summary for this book would be: It is a one giant sex scene. There was no real story behind the plot. Both just fantasized about having sex with each other. And that's it. For this, the book was quite okay. But I would have preferred to have a full-on background story. It just was not enough.

Still enjoyed this rather short book, but it was just too short.

The couple: Matt and Lucy

Romance trope: neighbors
Length: 59 pages

Plot: Lucy goes over to her new neighbor's apartment to borrow some sugar and finds herself embarrassed beyond words. She spends a few weeks trying to avoid him, but Matt isn't about to let that happen.

Commentary: Super cute - I love how Matt blushed even though he was the one making the plans for them!

After an absurdly stressful day, all Lucy wants to do is drown in sweetness. And nothing better than a few cupcakes to cure a bad mood. But when she gets home, she finds out she has no sugar and is forced to knock on the neighbor's door to borrow a cup of the ingredient. She just didn't expect to come face to face with a hot new neighbor, totally wet and answering the door with only a towel. Nor did she expects to lose the ability to think and speak clearly and be ashamed in front of the hottie. And an unexpected invitation can turn an ordinary night into a series of pleasant surprises for Lucy.

I will not tell more. All I can say is that it is a short and delicious story, but you have to like your stories hot, because the story is definitely hot. There are few chapters, narrated only by the female voice, but well written and well narrated. The facts happen naturally, it is not instalove, but it is certainly instalust. A very hot chicklit to entertain and amuse lovers of a good cliché and make you mood better.

I swear, Brighton Walsh can do no wrong. I can't get enough of her words. It baffles me that I waited so long to read The Neighbor. I have zero excuses. But, I'm glad I read it today. The audio version was just what I needed in my life. It was the perfect combination of steamy and funny. A delicious bite-sized little morsel.

This was a short podcast so naturally you can’t have huge character development. It was very good for what it was though. If you’re a fan of insta lust then you’ll definitely like it. It’s one of the better ones I’ve seen. I really liked the quirky heroine.

Super-neurotic girl meets cute new neighbour down the hall. The dialogue was funny and clever. The heroine’s neuroses got tiresome pretty quick for me though.

I started reading this story and then It's clicked: I knew this story. I've read it so many times when it was a fanfic!
And then I realised one of my favorite fanfic writers has a whole career and books that I wasn't aware of.

Now I need to read all of her books.
