I'm the only witch at the academy who can wield a rare magic. Should I trust the man who can teach me to unlock my powers? Term Three is in session. Let the games begin. I’m back at the Nightworld academy and looking forward to a new term, but life isn’t any easier. I’m still reeling from the events at the Winter Ball and Tobias’s revelation. Now a new face on campus is about to throw everything into turmoil. My relationship with the guys grows more complicated. I’m worried Ash is drifting away from me, I’m no closer to finding how to stop Jamie’s death, and my feelings for Andrei confuse us both. Amelia’s also behaving oddly, and I’m worried she’s planning something stupid. Is somebody trying to pull us apart. Add in the rivalry of the academy games, and this term will test friendships. A prank leads to a frightening and confusing vision unlike anything I’ve experienced, and I’m now certain the biggest danger to the academy is somebody or something already here. Amidst all the confusion, one thing is clear. I need to work on perfecting my new abilities and holding us together before the Dominion infiltrate the academy and my new world comes crashing down.
LJ Swallow is a paranormal romance and urban fantasy author who is the alter-ego of bestselling contemporary romance author Lisa Swallow.
Giving in to her dark side, LJ spends time creating worlds filled with supernatural creatures who don’t fit the norm, and heroines who are more likely to kick ass than sit on theirs.
2.5 ⭐️ There are 11 books in this series, and I really hate not to finish a started series, but I'm not sure I can continue. I think I will have to take a break and come back. The guys in this book are soo toxic and unlikable, and the FMC is whiney and petulant. I like the idea of this book, and it seems like a cool world.
It’s actually a pretty decent supernatural academy book. The romances are basically nonexistent - so don’t believe the stuff about how this is an RH. Yes she talks about liking multiple people but I’m 4 books in and she randomly slept with one and that’s the extent of the entire romance. None are actually romantically interested in eachother lol.
Wow, just Wow that ending!!!!!!! I need more now!!! Team Andrei all the way. The above sums up the emotions from just finishing up Term 3 in my lunch break as i ran out of time to finish it last night and after staying up later than i planned and needing some high energy drinks to get me focused this morning and a load of Coffee i took an early lunch to finish off the book.
Her relationship with Ash gets a little rocky, heats up most definately with Andrei, kinda plods along with Jamie (although he winds me up as he is so moody and self centred) and Tobais, well we finally get an answer at the end of the book as to his history but to be fair he always puts Maeve first the same as Andrei so he's coming up in my expectations. In the Background Amelia continues to struggle with the fact that Matt is in Raven Hold. On top of all of this is Vincent - Ash's brother really back from the dead? or is it an imposter or something much much worse.
There are twists and turn galore and the plot has a habit of taking you on a roller coaster of emotions with ebs and flows through out the book but believe me you are left reeling at the end of the book as all the emotions Maeve must be feeling hits you well and truly.
I was finally able to connect to the characters while reading book 2. I like Maeve a great deal more and the author has done a wonderful job showing her character growth. She still has moments but that feels realistic. I am still frustrated because there is so much drama that the group is never on the same page. I know that is one of the conflicts but I am having difficulty enjoying what I read when there are almost no happy scenes in the book. I keep thinking I will find something else to read instead but my curiosity won't allow me to drop the series entirely. I do really enjoy the characters, the setting and the overall premise. I don't love all the intensity without some lighter scenes to break it up. That is just a personal preference though and shifts with my mood.
Maeve. Maeve. Maeve. Immature brat. Self-centered. Whiney. Impulsive. I’d hoped that she would grow up. But. I was mistaken. This story has become tedious.
This author has a talent for cliff-hanger endings. Whic is good, because it makes up for the irratic writing style. Sigh, Andrei is so hott! But he also has a lot of depth to him. I just wish the book would make up its mind about how many years Vincent has gone missing, is it 3 or 4 or 5? I feel so sorry for Ash, all he ever wanted was his older brother back, but instead he got something that is like his brother but not. I'm still not quite sure what is wrong with Vincent, but it isn't anything good. Tobias is seriously alluring, I just wish he and Maive would kiss already, the tension is killing me! Not a bad book overall, it is definitely better than the first 2 in the series.
2019 52 Book Challenge - 44) An Author Who Uses A Pseudonym
This is one of those books where the plot is just sort of chugging along in the background and then it sort of just goes from 0 to 100 in the space of one chapter and then it ends on a cliffhanger.
I had to finish this book so badly that, after staying up until 1am and falling asleep with 50 pages left, that I was almost late for work the next day because I had to finish it.
I'm also Team Andrei all the way because I don't really like the other guys.
I just love this book and series. I could not put it down. Ash's brother is back... or is he? Andrei is spending more time with the group. Amelia is really struggling with things. Tobasis is opening up more. And then we have Maeve... I really want to like her, but she needs to grow up and not be so wishy washy... does this take away from my love of this book? Not at all... just makes me want to read more to see if she finally grows up. And the mystery that surrounds the Academy and the students? I need to know what is going on
I don't love these books, but I also don't hate them. Maeve sort of gets on my nerves, but I like a few of the other characters. The storyline is okay. It doesn't pick up very fast, or at all really until the end.
Interested to see what comes next! Not the best story ever, but a good quick read that’s keeping me engaged. There’s a few things that are still confusing/don’t really make sense… I’m trusting the process and I think/hope it’ll all come together in the end.
Nightworld Academy Term Three gave this girl everything she wanted. It was a lot sexier than the previous two books and I binged it in a day! It was more addicting than the other two books by far. I could not put it down, and I was so happy to see two of my favorite guys get some special Maeve time.
I felt like a lot happened but at the same time, not much happened. There was a lot of progress on the character relations development which culminated with Maeve and one of her guys taking their relationship to the next level. But story wise Maeve is just as much in the dark and reacting to events as she was in previous books.
Maeve is having visions of possible future events that tell us something very bad is about to happen, but the pieces she sees are very vague and has a lot of people at the academy wondering how it all fits together, if it is even real. Maeve also finds she has more enemies at the school than she realized and one takes it a bit too far during an exercise.
Jamie Jamie Jamie. I feel like there has been less emphasis on him being a suitor in this book. Could be because he is my least favorite and that is just how I am reading it. But poor Jamie is still struggling with his potential death and relies on other magic to protect him.
Amelia has reached her breaking point with her situation with Matt and that leaves her a bit distracted for most of the book. She is spiraling into dangerous territory and the outcome could leave her into a lot of trouble.
Ash is in a bit of trouble of his own. Now that his brother is back he has to find a balance of time between his group of friends and his brother. His loyalty to each group is being tested.
Andrei is his usual self, although we do see him letting his guard down slightly and becoming more of the group, but an outing with his friends shows he might just have ties with the Dominion, something he has denied from the start.
And our favorite professor is back! Things were not looking good for him in the last book. We do find out why he was in Ravenhold and oh boy, it’s a doosy. Can Maeve really trust him? The sparks between these two could light a fire for sure!
Vincent is back from the dead and causing a rift between Ash and the rest of the group, especially the witches, and he has his own agenda which has to potential to upheave everything at the Academy.
We also find that one of the people Maeve looks up to may not have the best intentions, and everyone is suspected with working with the Dominion.
By the end of the story two of our characters have disappeared, one is running away to hide, and one is accused of murdering a girl.
If you have not started this series yet, or read this book, I have one question: What are you waiting for!!!
There is so much going on in these stories and this one is the same. There is excitement and danger. There is danger in just learning to control there powers. I keep wondering about the strange circle around Maeve. I think it will be something else when all of them come into their powers. You have a shifter, who is or will be a dragon. Then you have a vampire, it would not surprise me if she turned out to be very powerful. Then you have a witch who is decent with potions and has some good moves when push comes to shove. Then you have a witch (male) Jamie who reads and learns all he can about magic. Maeve is a rare far seer and she can control minds. I have a feeling that they will change the paranormal world in some way. Maybe a for telling or something like that. You never know what lurks in the mind of a writer. I will be looking forward to see if I am right or not. I received a complimentary review copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
Each book in this series has successfully overdone the one before in regards to character depth and development, plot twists and turns, and that sneaky bit of doubt imbedded that not only makes the character start doubting things, but now yourself as you read. I loved this 3rd book. I was irritated with some characters so much I wanted to scream and yell at them, while others I wanted to console. Some needed to be just smacked. Maeve is slipping a bit deeper in this dispair her visions bring to her and others. No one can help truly and there is still so much secrecy flying around I wanted to scream. It is going to be a long long lonely wait til 4 comes out ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I received this ARC for an honest review
For someone who claims to be so intelligent, Maeve is quite dumb.
She also doesn’t have any self preservation skills. Maeve also thinks she’s hot shit. (She’s not.) She better have some character growth because she’s quickly becoming a character I hate.
And maybe don’t talk back to the people who want to kill you.
Maeve is a witch who sees visions of the future but I think the author forgot about that because I don’t think Maeve has had a vision in like 2 books.
I just finished Term Three of LJ Swallow’s Nightworld Academy. It was excellent! Things heat up relationship and danger wise. I could not put it down it was so engrossing. If you haven’t read these you need to!! Looking forward to next term!!

I loved it! It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This series is a slow-burn sweet why choose romance. Perfect for lovers of books with a strong magical heroine who grows into her powers, swoon-worthy guys who love and protect her, and a supernatural world filled with magic, romance, and mystery. Welcome to Nightworld Academy (Ravenwood Academy to the outside world). At this academy, that is attended by witches, shifters, and vampires, one student's bloodline will be their salvation or a curse. Let the games begin. Maeve is back at the Nightworld academy and looking forward to a new term, but life isn't any easier. She’s still reeling from the events at the Winter Ball and Tobias’s revelation. Now a new face on campus is about to throw everything into turmoil. Her relationship with the guys grows more complicated, she’s worried Ash is drifting away from her, she’s no closer to finding how to stop Jamie’s death, and her feelings for Andrei confuse them both. Amelia’s also behaving oddly, and Maeve’s worried she’s planning something stupid. Is somebody trying to pull them apart? Add in the rivalry of the academy games, and this term will test friendships. A prank leads to a frightening and confusing vision unlike anything she’s ever experienced, and she’s now certain the biggest danger to the academy is somebody or something already here. Amidst all the confusion, one thing is clear, she needs to work on perfecting her new abilities and holding everyone together before the Dominion infiltrate the academy and her new world comes crashing down. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. I highly recommend to everyone.
Hooked all the way through! My favourite book of the series so far!
That start with Tobias! What a great start to book three! Wasn’t dragged out, was just the right length to get you to go, WHAT! And then Eeeekkkkk!
Meave…. trying to understand her but I just don’t. Back-forth-back-forth. Flitting from one guy to the next, as soon as one of them stops kissing her and steps back she runs to another?!
We finally get THAT scene at almost the end of the third book… and I’m super disappointed. What’s the point in writing that, you may aswell keep it closed door.
At the end of Book two I wasn’t rooting for any of the guys but was super intrigued to see where the whole Tobias situation will go. Now, I’m more leaning towards Andrei whilst still anticipating Tobias.
Also, ‘chew a nail’ - they all do it, a lot. Need to find a different way to convey that because I started to pick up on it and grimace. A few grammatical errors throughout, which distracts you from reading.
Dual POV not my favourite. I think it takes something away from the feel of the book. However compared to the first two books, there was less repetition in relaying the same scenes in dual POV.
For those reasons mentioned it’s 4 stars not 5.
Picking up book 4 straight away! Excited to read what happens!
The first two books were probably respectfully around 4 stars for me. This one was a little worse. I honestly wouldn’t mind if this was a mf romance as Andrei is the only male I think worth any time. The others are whiney, selfish, give into peer pressure and I just don’t like them very much. The writing isn’t bad and I definitely think it’s better than the 4 horseman series but I just don’t care all that much about the over arching plot as there seems to be so much drama going on. I feel like it’s like pulling teeth to get anything done, our MC has said several times she going to work on seeing this vision play out and it’s book three and she’s done nothing really to help see more of the vision she always seem to have some stupid little drama taking center stage. It wouldn’t be so annoying if these were high schoolers but they’re all 18+ so this is college level people acting like who’s hooking up with who is more important than a supernatural war
I feel like maybe I have been a little hsrsh on this series as I now appreciate the gradual immersion into the nightworld. There's so much going on in this addition to the series that I'm now thankful for the slow burn on the RH side of the story and for the resistance Maeve has shown in the previous instalments.
This term allows Maeve to start to really accept her new life, sure there are challenges along the way which test her, but isn't there always?!
I loved that this book gave time to character and relationship development as well as the plotline events taking place.
We are still none the wiser about Jamie's situation but through the events of this book particularly at the end of the book eith Andrei, Ash and Ameila it appears the vision if Jamie from the beginning has been part of something much bigger for the group as a whole and I can't wait to find out where the ending of this leads us in Term 4.
Term three WARNING: This one ends in a book-hook cliffhanger, with some events very much up in the air. It’s about 4/5 on the trauma scale, so big but not life threatening.
Maeve gets closer to her guys, then further away from some as events at the academy unfold. Danger lurks, as people try to keep Maeve and her friends apart, and to cause mischief and mayhem.
This book was very much back and forth, as Maeve proved to be still judgmental (her biggest flaw) and rather untrusting. Unfortunately, she’s not the only one, as an epidemic of mistrust and judgy attitudes take the academy by storm. It makes for interesting, tension filled reading, even as you want to scream and shout at the characters for their foolish behaviour. The tale scores more NA rather than YA, since romance progresses, but we don’t get details, though it’s not fade to black. It’s a good series for the RH fantasy fan, and Academy fans that don’t mind romance.
Welcome back everyone, to the Maeve “I can fix him” Foster chronicles part 3.5 (since origins is a short novella we will simply call it 0.5 of a book), where Maeve is given LITERAL BREADCRUMBS of affection from four dudes who then pull back and act like they need to avoid her like the bubonic plague, rinse and repeat for a whole other book! 🎉🥳
Wooohooo!
This is a good book but there is a lot going on at all times and as a result, we have so many different subplots going on at one time. We are given multiple POVs but never from Tobias (give the people what they want pleeease in the next books - in case it’s not obvious, we want some Tobias POV chapters).
At no point do we have the slightest clue who we can trust and everything is a total shit show all of the time. I mean, these books are a fun, interesting time, so of course I continue to gobble them up. I’m not sure though if all of the various plot lines will all be wrapped up by the end. I suppose time will tell.
I can't put these books down!!! Like I hate that I have to sleep sometimes 🤣 if you like why-choose, mates, friend-to-lovers, enemies-to-lovers, school drama, and a diverse paranormal world. This is the book for you! still feels like a movie in my head rather than words on a pages, I love this author.
SPOILERS AFTER THIS LINE!!!! the relationship developing between Andrei and Maeve is what crave! That is some proper tension building, in my opinion, made the end of the book explosively steamy. Although it was a closer to fade to black kind of steamy scene, just the build-up, but not explicit. Also I hate Ash's brother, and Ash is being a stupid a-hole too. But we all know he will redeem himself later.
So I really love the characters in this series. I think they progress at a believable pace, even the romance has a believable build. What I don’t like about this series is the writing style. You know that phrase from movie enthusiasts, “Show, don’t tell”? I am constantly thinking that through this entire series. There are plot points that are extremely relevant that just get breezed over in a character monologue, where they were like, “oh yeah and this happened”, instead of the reader getting to •experience• the interaction. It’s very frustrating
This was an altogether better book than the first two but I find the romance is so lacking. I don't feel any chemistry with Maeve and any of the other main characters.
The plot was a bit better but the sudden u-turn with Maeve being ok with events in the paranormal world and her new bad ads attitude just felt a bit false to me.
I feel some things didn't need to be added to the book at all and the ending was rather lacklustre. Think I may read other things before continuing with this series.
This one was the best yet. A lot less glossing over but there were still some points. Still though plenty of scenes were told in the now, although when Maeve has a vision it is sometimes difficult for us and her to tell which is reality. I also dislike how all her relationships are these tug o war games. These hot and cold. I can’t wait for them to come together. I’m worried for Andrei though and what this means or if he will get hurt.
OMGoodness how can I wait until February for the next book? The twists will spin your head, the action, plot, and characters pull you in until you read the last page! Forces are working to divide the friendship between Maeve, Ash, Amelia, Jamie, and Andrei, the most diverse group at the Academy. All kinds of hell break loose in term three!
OMG....can this series get any better?? Just when I think ok now who the enemy is, something changes my opinion.... I love the strong lines ... Andrei, Jamie and Ash....
Katherine is a bitch..... I can’t wait to see what happens next... couldn’t put this down !!!
