A nice general overview of the Maya culture, though don't expect any particular depth. 4 starts for the awesome pictures.

After reading this book, I realized how interesting historical mysteries really were. The fact that you know that this mystery isn’t just a made up story makes the reader’s mind wonder. The Maya ruins always caught my interest but after reading this book, I’ve became more interested in learning about this civilization. Usually I get very bored about learning about things like this but this book changed my perspective drastically. I actually wanted to learn more and more with every word I read.
The book intrigues the reader about the mysteries of the lost kingdoms of The Maya. It makes the reader question the real reason why the remarkable civilization that once flourished basically disappeared. The reader learns more about how the Maya devised mathematical and astronomical concepts, developed trade routes, and wrote books. The explorers who searched for the ruins began to shed new light on the lost kingdoms of the Maya. With new discoveries came new questions.
Overall, I would definitely give this book a high rating. It actually made learning fun. I must say that in the beginning, I wasn’t really grabbed by any of the information that was being passed on to me until the middle of the book. Once I reached that point, I couldn’t put the book down. I would suggest that anyone who has a project or just wants a good educational book to get this one. I'm really glad that I had the chance to read this book.
