This boxed set includes all nine books in the Ward Of The FBI, Orphan Witch, Special Witch Of The FBI, Oath Of The Witch, Cold Case of the Witch, Witch Fugitive, Untouchable Witch, Probationary Agent, and A Necessary While the series continues in the same world with some returning characters, it does stand alone. No prior experience necessary.
Judith Berens is a figment of your imagination, made up of the fevered brainpower of Michael Anderle and Martha Carr, fueled by a lot of people helping them out - as well as all of you, The Fans. Great stories mixed with a lot of great readers equals more adventures to follow.
I keep searching for more series about the Oriceran/earth universe and loving every one of them. Also sad when I finish them. All have been great. The author notes too.
I binged this omnibus over two days, and I don’t regret a minute of it. This was a delightful series full of wonderful friendships and mysteries that helped our core group grow and find themselves.
Loved the interaction with the teachers, especially Xander, and the Head Librarian - and his poppy - were adorable and so sweet and supportive to Raine. Would definitely add this to my shelves if only the onmibus was available in paperback.
If you’re curious, there was nothing I would consider a trigger warning. No explicit language, no graphic violence. Only sweet teenage romance (hugging, kissing and holding hands) and the usual teenage worries, but with a paranormal twist.
This is clearly YA fiction.. yet it's not listed as such. Annoying. I would have chosen something else, I kept hoping it would grow up and bloom but it didn't.
It's difficult to trace the correct reading order for these multiple series which all interlock and yes that's despite checking the website.. the miniscule images, and unclear titles, the box sets that are not clearly named. The frustration is very real.
It's annoying that the author says they don't need to be read in order to make sense.. it's clear that they do because references are continually made to events that presumably are in those books.. from some I am going to guess that reading a later book first will mean that you know who survives. Irritating.
This is written in a very simplistic way. The language is lacking dynamics.. it's almost like it's been dumbed down.. Raine is too perfect, too FBI, too much.. everyone loves her even though she's a know-it-all and seems to believe that she's the only one who can fix everything. Perfect student, perfect friend, perfect girlfriend.. there's no reality because she never faces a row with a friend, a disagreement, a failure.. everything glides perfectly in all her relationships.. and don't quote Madelyn because by then it's really too late and even that turns into another perfect friendship.. they are teenagers and yet there is really no angst.. each of her friends has a tiny bit but it is all cleared away without any real emotions..
The staff were wooden, stereotypical clichés or hammy.. it just didn't flow.. I struggled to maintain interest whereas the previous series I read was really gripping and full of energy.. we spent a large part of one episode droning on about film reviews.. please not mid novel.. if I wanted opinions about directors I would not be reading fiction.
It's more a 2.5 than a 3 but I can't leave that score..
Another enjoyable teen, mystery action adventure set at the School of Necessary Magic
Two witches, a wizard, a kitsune, a shifter, a wood elf, and an ifrit enter a school … Raine Campbell discovers that she has magic and enters the School of Necessary Magic. There she meets other magicals and then, when she has found her group of misfits, they form a formidable team investigating and solving the mysteries that threaten and intrigue them.
The first book in the series introduces each of the main and important supporting characters. There are welcome comebacks by Mara Berens, the principal, and the professors at the School of Necessary Magic, as well as side characters that appeared at the school in Alison Brownstone: School of Necessary Magic set a few years before these events.
Set in the same location, this story continues the storyline of the school and its kemana and this world’s colourful characters. There is a strong message of ‘together we are stronger’ in this series. No angst about whether he/she love will me or how will I overcome this bullying/enemy. For those readers exhausted from reading so much teen angst and emo, this might be a welcome respite. The focus here is on mystery and character growth. The adventures have happy outcomes and the heroes survive and grow.
This series is also of interest to readers interested in finding out how potions are created and work in this particular world of magic, or interested in philosophical discussions about famous films. This helps create the world and the background against which the plot plays out.

Rainie Cambell began a magical adventure after being enrolled in as a junior in a magical boarding school. Raiane's adventure began after finding out she was magical during a bullying incident which resulted into being admitted in the School of necessary magic. She makes friends each as unique as she. The four years they are in school renites them as the FBI Trouble Sqaud and protectors of the students as well as others. Good high school story with a magical touch
I love anthologies. Especially when the universe holds several series. Less clutter in my library and less chance I read the wrong book next without looking at a list. This is my first series in the universe. It refers to events and characters from other books but I'm not sure what ones. Hints more than spoilers except to know certain teachers can't die because they are in here. I'm moving on to a previous series thinking it might be the one that contains the battle.
Again, I came at this series after reading some books that took place in the Florida school, so not sure where these fit in the grand scheme of things. Despite that, I liked the books collected into this volume, and I still fully intend to read more in this world, (going back to the Florida gang if I can find more), because I read those first, and I like those characters better, though I'm finding I did like this whole collection, so perhaps I can figure it all out after reading more in other series that are part of this world.
Raine just isn't my favorite character. Normally I fly through books. I felt like I had to trudge through this series. The whole FBI obsession was weird. She seemed self-righteous and just boring, but was written to be the darling of the group and school. I just didn't find her likeable. There were also too many needless add-ons. The movie night started fun but became weird and felt contrived and thrown in. The Madelyn story wasn't good - she went form obsessed and evil to a best friend? It just didn't work for me.
Originally bought “just because”, that and the cost being under a dollar for the entire series. Planned to read just the first book and then being done, however, I kept reading to see how closely the story mirrored Harry Potter, and it was amazingly similar in several ways. Then it gained its own traction and the authors came up with a lot of interesting twists and turns. In short, I read it all. - very close to “Harry Potter Light” - high school puppy love - fun and interesting interplanetary magic concept - would grade it a “B-“ for editing/consistency
If you’re like me, you were super bummed when the Harry Potter series ended....BUT fret not, Raine Campbell is here to renew those good vibes. Awesome series with enough paranormal parallels to Harry Potter and more than enough distinctions to endear itself to a new reader. Great flowing storyline, amazing characterization and just about every quirk needed to stay engaged to the last page.
Rains is horrified to discover she is a witch, she never endeavour her family's magical history. Going to the School of Necessary Magic enabled her to find herself. Battling with dark witches and other creatures who wished her and friends out of the way Rains nd her mismatched friends fight their way through fours years of school.
A must read for all lovers of the supernatural and beings from other worlds.
This book was obviously written for preteens. Everything was very sanitized, very cotton candy like. The dialogue was very stilted and overly formal given the ages and backgrounds of the characters. For all of the superfluous descriptions of things and places, the world building was lacking. There was very little character development either. I might've enjoyed it at age 11 or 12, but as an adult, I was bored.
At first, I got the feeling that this series was more for jr. high kids. As I comfy to read, I just got absorbed into the series. You watch these characters grow and blossom, until you find the feeling of family. I recommend this series whole-heartedly, to readers of ALL ages. Bravo, author, and please write more on the continued adventures of these characters!!
So, reading so many books in a row can kind of mess up what happened when. But that's only important for reviews with spoilers! Since I have no intention of spoiling this for you, I will simply state a couple points. First, this series does not start at the end of high school, like most of the "School of" books I've read. Second, these are YA books and read as such. And lastly, I personally loved the entire series. Enjoy!
I'm so not a teenager, and maybe these books were a little bit young for me. It seemed like Raine was all over the place....literally and figuratively. We start out in the mundane world and then she discovers she's got magic. Raine is sent to a magical school, makes friends, helps train a horse....then classes start and we no longer hear about the big plans she had for the horse (eventually he does make it back in the series). This is more of a coming of age story than I'm used to from these authors. Not one of my favorites.
This was a little slow (for me) at the beginning...wasn't sure what to make of it but typically ramped up as things progressed! Interesting characters...good and bad...and some good action, mystery and a wonderful journey for each of the MCs...not least Raine! Would love to read of her adventures in the FBI...bet she has just as much fun...and gives her leaders just as much headaches Asher teachers!!!
The first book was certainly not ordinary, but definitely pleasant. I know that sounds rather mundane, but it set the tone for the entire series. Good, clean fun wrapped in a TON of magic and action. I am looking forward to the pleasure of reading many more books by all the authors. THANK YOU!
This was a fun read I think for all ages it shows a growth of a teenager and a group of teams that worked together the help others I was really proud of rain cam I was really proud of Adrian who became the looper captain all of them with all their problems Evi Sarah Philip They overcame them
I read all nine books straight through. Clean, no scatology. Believable good characters with varied enough plots to keep me interested. My only beef is that sometimes I thought the characters too good. I recommend the series. Note that I have not yet read the first 'School . . .' series.
I really enjoyed these books. Well written, and very well paced. I look forward to reading more from these authors as they work well together. I would recommend these books to those who are young at heart as well as those joining adulthood in the near future
Magic is new in this world again, after portals to another world of dimension reopened the few magical people who's families survived the closing untold years ago are starting to come out in public. Now an orphan girl finds she is magical. She wants to become the first witch FBI agent. These are her story and hard to put down.
The one thing I can say, is the author of this series, and all the books by Martha Carr, Michael Anderle, and there are others. They write such strong charismatic characters, the kind to stay with you long after the end. That's what I love about this series, if you do too. Give them the chance to come alive in your minds eye.
I read all nine books in the series. Each was enjoyable and the development of the characters was amazing. The strong emphasis on loyalty, caring for others and searching for solutions was very much a "recess" from the current negativity surrounding me during my "stay home" months.
Deals with topics applicable to highschoolers but reads at a lower level. Emotional content enough to be enjoyable as light reading for adults. Who doesn't love a good escapism novel or 2. Interesting characters and now I have to read the other series based in the same world.
I can't say I loved it. So much redundancy with what the students are thinking / feeling / doing. Totally didn't like "movie nights", which I found totally unnecessary to the story line. Not much happens in each book, though I did finish them all. I do give all authors credit for having the talent to think up story lines, but Ms. Berens' books are not what I would continue to read.
I read the entire series. There were just a few times when I fast forwarded through a couple of pages. Mostly in the later books when some of the text was predictable and moved rather slow. Having said that, I really liked the series. The characters were very interesting and the plots were different from others that I have read. I look forward to following Raine's career as an FBI agent:)
I read a lot of this genre of books. A LOT. While I enjoyed this series I felt like something was missing, which created a little bit of a disconnect for me. Not enough to make me want to stop reading... Just enough that I couldn't give it a five star rating.
Still, a good read with enjoyable, fleshed out characters. Enjoy!
This book suffers from character perfectionism. Also, there feels like scenes missing (talk about her wanting to join student council but almost no details??). The amount of stuff she gets done is unrealistic. Definitely needs some improvement - suggest getting some helpful editor friends who can help the author's writing to improve.
Loved the first 8 stories The ninth was fun, however, a little reflective, so it took a little longer to read Same great quality stories as the two other series I have read of theirs Excellent characters, exciting and lots going on and some unexpected twists Great read
All the book I have read by these Authors were not only entertaining, wonderful I try to keep a small fire extinguisher just incase they combust from friction due how fast the pages are being turned to get to the next the chapter. Just a a great book nothing else need to be said.
