The pioneering female action heroes, Heartbreakers, team up with the long-lost 19th-century robot, Boilerplate (already a worldwide legend), for a science fiction adventure featuring kung fu clones and robot romance!
A trifle. This is an example of a good production artist (especially adept with Photoshop) who is so tied to photo reference that the art seems frozen no matter how many tortured kung-fu poses the actors try to do. To make matters worse, the writing is fairly weak, and the clone-ridden plot seems like a tired excuse to use the same actors over and over again. The "Boilerplate" character, a steampunk Victorian "robot," is an interesting idea that never quite pays off. Too bad.
The writer and artist would probably say I missed the "parody" aspect of the book, and didn't "get" their sense of humor. They would be correct.
Boilerplate's a great idea, and Anina and Paul are great people, and maybe the Heartbreakers series is good but I never got past this one, which is a dud. I found the story useless and the art beyond the cover page lifeless. Also, there's some serious constant nipple action, which isn't really a complaint but I sure feel creepy saying it was the only part I liked.
