Reily Garrett continues her Moonlight and Murder series with Pivotal Decisions, a thrilling tale of murder and suspense with a splash of romance.

Coyote Waylin moved to Pennsylvania to start fresh after he was forced to save his sister’s life and kick the bejeezus out of his brother for endangering her in the first place. After years of being away, said brother asks him to come back to help with a murder investigation. He didn’t expect a warm welcome from his family, but he certainly didn’t expect to fall for his brother’s best friend amid being chased by mercenaries and trying to solve a crime.

Sabine never expected to find the gruesome site of a murder during her walk with her best friend Augie. Especially not the murder of her close friend Jinx. Luckily Augie’s older brother and her teenage crush is headed their way to help. Together with a motley crew of friends they’ll have a better chance of surviving and solving the mystery behind the high-tech virtual reality murder.

Reily Garrett provides a suspenseful story with an interesting mix of laughs, thrills and love. Being this my first Garrett book, I was a bit overwhelmed with all the characters involved, but it wasn’t difficult at all to catch up. The group of women were funny and drove the men crazy with their stunts. They guys took their alpha male protectiveness to heart. The story is full of intrigue and action packed and full of wit. I loved the addition of Heath, Sabine’s dog, in all aspects of the tale. I think he stole the show.

Pivotal Decisions is book #2 of the Moonlight and Murder> series by author Reily Garrett. It is a standalone suspense, told from various points of view with a happy ending. Sub-Genre: romance.

"This book was given to me an exchange for an honest review."

This was book 2 in the "Moonlight and Murder" series. Coyote Waylin hasn’t been home in six years not since the night he broke his brother’s jaw and saved his sister’s life. After receiving a desperate call from his sibling he goes home to help with a murder mystery. Sabine is a bad ass chick who carries a gun while out hiking she discovers her friend Jinx who called and ask to meet her dead which put her on a killers rader. She had a crush on her best friend Augie's brother Coyote as a teen and when she sees him again all those feelings come back. Sabine is a girl that always intrigued him and now that she carries a gun it's even more. I liked both of these characters. These two team up to catch a killer before more bodies and up in the swamp. This was a good read I don't read a lot of mystery. I liked the secondary characters. I have read a few of Reily Garrett's books before this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

Pivotal Decisions is the second book in Reily Garrett’s Moonlight and Murder series, and it builds upon the first book really well. It contains all the things Reily Garrett does well, ensuring you’ll be happy to devour it in no time at all and will be desperate for book three. Although this does build upon the characters we were introduced to in the first book, the story works perfectly fine as a standalone.

As is regularly the case with a Reily Garrett book, before I go any further, I just wished to make a quick note. I’m fortunate enough to beta read for Reily Garrett, lucky enough to get an insight in how these books develop. However, this does not influence my rating in any way. The beta reading process is a lot of fun, but I keep my ratings of the final book completely separate from the beta reading process. My rating is a reflection of what I have read, not my status as a beta reader, and the four-star rating shows this is a great book.

As always, Reily Garrett sucked me into this story from the start. You’re pulled in deep, curious to see how all the pieces come together. It offers all the things you hope for when reading a romantic suspense – action, intrigue, mystery, and great chemistry between the characters – making it a book that grabs you on multiple levels. With plenty happening throughout and details being introduced throughout the story, it keeps you turning the pages and unable to put it down.

Although not my favourite Reily Garrett read, Pivotal Decisions is another fabulous example of Reily Garrett’s ability to create an addictive romantic suspense and promises great things for the rest of the series.

Pivotal Decisions is the second book in the Moonlight and Murder series by Reily Garrett. I have read a few of Reily’s series’ and I always know I will be in suspense and being shocked with the the twists. And it will have a twist of romance. If you read A Critical Tangent then you have met Coyote as Nolan’s hilarious partner and friend. Well, this is his story.

Coyote hasn’t step foot in his hometown in six years. He walked away and didn’t look back. He wasn’t sure if his family had forgiven him what had done. So, when his younger brother, Augie called for his help, he was on his way. To solve a murder of a friend that was more like family. What he didn’t expect was her. Sabine. The girl who intrigued him even back then and even more now. She carried a gun for a living and was all badass and sass.

Sabine crushed on her best friend’s brother as a teenager. She thought she was over it but clearly she wasn’t after seeing him again. But now was not the time for a roll in the hay. It was time to find a killer. And it wouldn’t be easy especially with the way her friend, Jinx was found. It was no amateur who did that to him. And now, that Jinx was gone there were so many questions. Why? And what were they looking for? It was definitely something to do with VR since that was what Jinx was working on. But who knew about Jinx’s secret projects?

It was time to solve a murder before there were more bodies. Bodies that would end up in the swamp if the gators had anything to do with it. Will the combined efforts of a ragtag group get the answers they needed before it was too late?

I thought this book was full of suspense, laughter, badassness, fun, and love. The group’s personalities blend amazingly. The women are hilarious and the men are protective. Both are ready for battle and want to keep everyone safe. I am not sure who is getting the next story but I do have a feeling and if I am right, it’s going to be some ride.

Quotes:

“Sabine, if you don’t stop, I’m going to handcuff you.” Cooling night air against his back did nothing to curb his rising lust.
“Yes, finally! Fur lined? If not, ‘s okay. I can deal.”

“Who’s a good boy?”
“If things get hairy, will he stay put?” Keiki asked.
“Yeah. He won’t like it, but he will.”
“Are you sure, Sabine?” Nolan asked.
“He’ll follow direct orders.”
“At least someone will,” Coyote grumbled.

“Keep giving me commands and you’ll be the one wearing a shock collar, but not around your neck,” Sabine grumbled.

Pivotal Decisions, the second book in the Moonlight and Murder series, is set the Florida Everglades. A horrific murder brings back the characters from A Critical Tangent along with several new and engaging ones. Like the first book, the story revolves around current technology, this time the theme is virtual reality.

Coyote Waylin, a detective in Pennsylvania, left Florida several years ago after family problems and hasn’t been back since. Until now. A panicked call from his younger brother, Augie, saw him on a plane back to his home turf. Augie and Sabine, who works for Fish and Wildlife and preferred a bang stick to her service weapon, have been best friends for years, and there for each other through all their problems. After receiving a text from another friend, Jinx, to meet in the Everglades Sabine and Augie find a staged and shockingly gruesome murder scene.

Whoever killed Jinx wants the secret code he’d been working on and would go to any lengths to get it, including targeting his friends and family. Nolan, Keiki and Jenna follow Coyote down to Florida to help in the hunt for Jinx’s killers.

Pivotal Decisions is billed as romantic suspense. The suspense is there from the word go and the romance takes second place so it doesn’t distract from the main storyline. It does, however, add welcome humour with some snappy dialogue, and serves to flesh out the characters that bit more. We learn much more about Coyote’s backstory. And I especially liked Sabine’s dog, Heath and his reactions to Coyote.

This is a fast paced, action packed story with danger everywhere and not only from humans—think alligators, snakes and other things found in the everglades—and with enough twists to keep the reader on their toes. Reily Garrett conveys a great sense of place and it’s a marked contrast to the cold and snow of Pennsylvania. I liked the way it ended and wonder what the group will get up to next.

When Sabine’s friend Jinx is found dead, she must rely on the help of her other friend Augie to figure out why. Though they haven’t had the best relationship, they agree to put all tensions aside to work together. There is a killer out there, hunting them down, and if they aren’t careful, they’ll be next.

Suspense, twists, and mysteries galore! There were plenty of characters in this story, any of whom could be suspects. It was fun learning about each of their backgrounds, but at a point, it got a tad overwhelming. Even in the end, I still have questions, but I think that’s what made this story intriguing. Only a really good book leaves you thinking.

While there is plenty of suspense, there are some steamy/romantic moments in the story too. These were well done as well. I have to say though, my favorite part of the book is all the action.

The author has a way with painting a picture. The atmosphere of southern Florida was described so well that by the end of the story, it felt as if I were there.

Fantastic story all around.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Coyote left and started his life over after saving his sister and brother. He didn’t know how is family would react have he beat up Augie. Now six years later Coyote gets a phone call from his brother needing his help, a friend has been murdered. He heads back home to help and is shocked to discover Sabine is all grown up. Fast-paced read with plenty of twists and turns, drama, intrigue and steam. I really liked it.

Reily Garrett – Moonlight and Murder Bk 2 – Pivotal Decisions – Reviewed 3/4/20 – Read 2/28/20
Death, gators, the past, lost love and incredible action, have Coyote and Nolan on their toes!

Coyote Waylin had not been home for 6 years, not since that fateful night when he had to save his sister and afterward broke his baby brother, Augie’s jaw. He left and has not looked back, starting a life for himself in the hills of Pennsylvania. A good one with a future, a great partner, life looks good, till today! A desperate plea from his brother, that same brother! You can’t turn away, even if you aren’t sure of the reception you’ll receive from the rest of the family.

Augie and Sabine had been best friends for almost all their lives. Sabine had been there for Augie’s problems, and he had been there when things were so bad for her because of her family. Now he is there again to help their other friend, Jinx. Both Augie and Sabine had shed their problems of the past. Augie was working towards a business of his own and Sabine was now a gun-toting Ranger with Fish and Wildlife. Sabine had received a text from Jinx, telling her to meet him out in the middle of nowhere in the swamps of the Everglades. A place that he hates!! When they get there they find Jinx, dead and sitting in a chair, inches from the swamp water with a gator on its way. They can’t save him!! But when the bullets start flying they decide to get help. With this cunning killer, the stakes are massive and he has Sabine and Augie set as his target! The best help they could use is Coyote, thus Augie’s call because they know they are in deep trouble!

What did I like? Well, first off, Reilly was the Featured Author on my site for the month of February. She is such an awesome person with a background to pull from to make her books ring with truth and reality. Reilly also loves penning books that have sass and lots of action. Plus with both of us being animal lovers, I knew she likes adding one to her storylines. This one being of no exception. It’s incredible the way that she wove the dog into the story, making him one of the main characters with such a lovable nature but also to add humor in the middle of all the action. I just love reading her books!

What are you going to like? Action with a capital “A”, characters that are so awesome, with the feeling to them that you could know them, yourself. Humor with a touch of sass, throw in a little romance, plus the emotional upheaval of things from the past and you have one heck of a book that will make you lose sleep! The danger and intrigue are unbelievable, with the past reaching out, plus the reasons for the murder of their friend. Add, help from a quarter they never even knew was there, in addition to the dependability of Coyotes partner, Nolan. Now that is a mix that will keep you up at night cause you can’t put the book down. Look for this fascinating book on the 22nd of March… so mark your calendar, friends!

Pivotal Decisions, (Moonlight and Murder 2), Reily Garrett

Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews

Genre: Romantic suspense

Murder and bodies, swamps and alligators, guns and bang sticks ( never heard of them – I want one !!), drones and tech, none of which I know much about but it didn't matter for the story as it was kept loose enough for me to keep up and enjoy. Some suspense novels get very heavy on the detail and I end up skipping pages, this had just enough to interest me and let me follow how the story fit together.
I loved Sabine – and Heath. That dog was the real star of the book ;-) Coyote too was great, it was hard seeing little Sabine all grown up, and he was struggling to keep his hands to himself. Of course Sabine had always been attracted to him so she wasn't worried when he didn't.... The secondary characters too, Augie, Sabine's bestie and Coyote's work partner and GF and sister were fabulous. Poor Nolan, Keiki was one determined lady.
The girls together brought some much needed humour among the seriousness of the story. The guys were all macho protection, Augie warning Coyote not to hurt Sabine, Coyote determined to keep her back from the danger, Nolan all het up in defence of his little sister and his girlfriend, and the girls all running rings around them equally determined to not be kept out of the action. Lucky they did, it needed all of them.

I understood the potential financially of what poor Jinx had been working on, and could see so easily for many the murders to get their hands on it would be nothing. Sadly that's the way of the world, dominated by money and the desire for more of it.
I wasn't entirely convinced over the capture and rescue of Augie's lady, it seemed a bit too simple and why leave the VR goggles? Maybe its just me missed some essential connection but I really struggled with the relevance of that bit.

Where the story fell down a bit for me was the last section, the end, and the reasons for all the murders seemed to just almost fizzle off. Somewhere I even missed what happened to one of the bad guys, one moment there was still one accounted for, and then it was the end and clearly I missed how he got caught. There were times when the actions stretched credulity but not too much and after all this is fictionland ;-)

Stars: Four, a fun read, humour to offset the murders and a great bunch of characters.

~Engaging sequel
~First, I’ll state that I received this book as a gift from the author to read and review.
~I completely enjoyed “A Critical Tangent”, book one in the series, and am equally impressed with this story. This book takes up right where book one left off; it flows smoothly from one story to the next.
~At to character development…this is something that I always look for in a story, and especially in a series. There are plenty of one-dimensional main characters running around solving crimes. It is nice to read a story…or series…where the reader gets to see the characters grow and to learn more and more of their background. The backstory allows us to understand why the character acts and does what they do. To give you a simple example; in the first book the relationship between two of the main characters (Nolan and Keiki) was firmly established. Now the author could have simply advanced this romantic relationship at a much faster pace in the sequel…however, that would not have stayed true to Nolan’s personal commitments, his sense of honor. I will admit, I am looking forward to Keiki’s graduation!
~This story really promotes loyalty to family and friends…and does not draw a distinction between the two.
~There was a fair amount of ‘high tech stuff’ in this book to make it interesting and modern…yet, there was also plenty of good old fashion police detective work. Nolan and Coyote have their work cut out for them, being law enforcement officers, but working outside of their jurisdiction. Trying to follow the rules, yet realizing the need to protect and uncover the truth, might just cause them to bend a few of those rules. As with any good mystery story, there are ample plot twists and turns…with a number of “red herrings” tossed into the mix. You know there are ‘bad guys’…but, it really keeps the reader guessing.
~I highly recommend this book…and “A Critical Tangent”, if you’ve not already read it! AND I am looking forward to the next installment.

Pivotal Decisions is the second book in the Moonlight and Murder series written by author Reily Garrett. It tells the story of Sabine and Coyote, who we met in the first book, A Critical Tangent. Even though each book tells the story of a different couple, I believe you’ll get the best foundation to fully understand and appreciate the storyline by reading them in order. Just know that it’s only a suggestion.

Pivotal Decisions tells the story of Sabine, who is an officer with the Fish and Wildlife services in Florida. While walking near the swamplands, Sabine and her friend Augie find their friend Jinx. They first think that he’s playing a joke, but sadly he wasn’t. They soon discover a note on his body which was left by the killer. Augie then calls his brother Coyote for help, but he hasn’t been home for roughly six years. Coyote’s nervous about coming home, but he’s willing to do it for his brother. He just wasn’t expecting to find their friend Sabine, now all grown up and looking beautiful.

I really enjoyed Pivotal Decisions! I thought the storyline was suspenseful, and I quickly got sucked in. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series, Seeds of Murder.

I LOVE the brilliant & addictive Reily Garrett, as she ALWAYS wows me with each new story, which means Pivotal Decisions is no exception. I don't want to go into details because it's romantic suspense at its finest, which means OH THOSE TWISTS! And while Ms. Garrett drops bread crumbs throughout, it's usually super hart to figure out who dun it & why. See, it's not just those turned out twists that you have to figure out, but had a conspiracy kicker added in. She blended the heart racing goodness, with the hysterically funny moments from tough as nails heroines who make their heroes crazy, which keeps me laughing hard! Then, in Pivotal Decisions, they all had to worry about getting killed by humans, gators, and snakes (which kept my skin crawling), so I was on the edge of my seat cover to cover, as Ms. Garrett never lets us dip our toes in, nope, it's cliff diving from the jump. Sabine & Coyote are our MCs, while there were a few secondaries from previous stories who kept me laughing so much with drones & hacking! So hit that one click button immediately, as you CANNOT go wrong with this amazing author! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Our heroine finds her best friend dead in the Everglades and this is just the start of the mystery. With a lot of help from friends and associates, she is going to have her hands full with this one.

This is book two of the series, but it works just fine as a standalone.

This is a romantic suspense story although the romance aspect builds slowly and late in the game. Which works just fine for me as it gives the main plot a chance to unfold. I found the story to be well written and easy to read although the plot was rather complex and required paying attention. The cast of characters is actually rather large, but they are well developed and each serves their role in the story (including a bit of comedy occasionally, which provided a needed break from some of the tense situations). Overall, this is an action filled story which will keep you flipping pages just to figure out how they are going to get out of their latest mess.

Highly recommended..

Coyote's backstory is revealed in the 2nd book of this series. Taking place in Florida, we are introduced to Coyote's family and friends as they seek answers relating to a murder.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, but there were some times I thought that there were holes in the logic of the group. In addition, there were at least two typos that made me stop and re-read a line, then fill in the correct term. I didn't make a note of them, but one had to do with a baseball cap IIRC. The story was fast moving and fairly typical of Reily's other works. I do recommend it to fans of romantic/adventure stories.

Nolan has been concerned about his much younger sister having a crush on the cajun Coyote

some requested tech support gets complicated, and puts both in touch with the whole family Coyote springs from, plus a best friend his brother has had since they were kids - and her k9 partner

fragments from their blood families and their pasts cast long shadows, and newer foes are still frightening and lethal

intense suspense, drama , romance and action with drones, other tech, chosen families and other puzzle pieces making for exciting action and adventures

I was given a complimentary copy to read for a review. I have read almost all of Reily's books and have enjoyed them all. This one is very intriguing with the development of the characters coming close together and working the twists and turns that Reily creates. It is fast moving, well written and a thriller, you will enjoy this one and can't wait to read more about the characters. Good job, Reily!

Book two in the Moonlight and Murder Series. The suspense and shocking twists and turns keep you turning the pages. The story line captivates you from the beginning and the romance between the characters is just as suspenseful as the mystery in the story line. You can't stop turning the pages to find out what happens.

VR Research Leads to Murder
This is the second book of a series and I think it is better than the first. The plot is very good and has just enough technical stuff for a nerd to enjoy. We have a scary k-9 in training along with alligators and deadly snakes. There are also underlying romances brewing. The book rates high in enjoyability and I did not want to put it down. I read the first 2 books back to back and am off to read book 3.

This is the 2nd book in the Moonlight and Murder series. Coyote and Sabine with others try to solve the murder of one of their friends. Murder, mystery, strange creatures, and a loyal track dog made the book an awesome read. Coyote and Sabine were attracted to one another but they were too young. When they met up again, their attraction was still there. All the characters were well-developed.

Coyote had left the swamps six years prior after recusing his sister and brother from a gang. Augie was a druggie. An argument left Augie badly beaten by Coyote. With guilt weighing heavily on his shoulders and not sure if his family would forgive him, Coyote left to try to move forward with his life never to return to his family...
Until that one phone call. His brother needed help! Jinx was murdered.
Augie and Sabine have been there for each other in good times and bad. A brother/sister type of relationship since childhood.
Sabine is a pistol packing woman who prefers her bang stick to a glock. She's a Ranger for the Fish and Wildlife. Dealing with gators, snakes and other creatures of the swamps.
When Coyote asked for help from Jenna, the college hacker, he was surprised his boss and his girl showed up as well.
The group tries to solve the clues that Jinx left behind before he was murdered. It's a race against the clock to find the VR googles before more bodies drop.
Keiki has a way of keeping her boyfriend, Nolan, on edge. So funny!
When Jenna, Keiki and Sabine get together...
"You three girls should never be in the same state, much less closer proximity. Ever. It’s a mistake, a foul against all that’s natural in the world.”
I fell in love with Heath!
I love reading books that make me feel as though I'm actually there with the characters.
Moonlight and Murder Series will keep you intrigued as the author spins a web and unexpected turn of events filled with mystery, murder, action packed drama, suspense, a little romance and a good dose of banter.

‘Would you look at that, we made a spark’

Indiana author Daniel Elijah Sanderfer retired from his work as a Hospitality Manager and now devotes his energies to writing M/M romances. As oppose to many LGBT authors who focus on the hindrances that can flaw relationships, Daniel focuses on the endurance and triumph of the human spirit in painting tales that resonate and offer hope. To date he has published thirty-three novels, gaining an ardent constituency.

Daniel’s skillful writing is apparent even in the opening lines of this new novel, introducing Caedmon, reflecting: ‘Every time I hear the rolling thunder and feel the rush of the wind against my skin I remember. I remember the summer I became a man. I remember the way his strong hands felt gliding across my skin. I remember his weathered face and hands, and the sounds of nature surrounding our secret oasis. I can still hear the sound of his heart beating as I rested my head on his chest, and I can hear the whisper of his breath as he slept peacefully nest to me, heart to heart, skin to skin, It was the summer I’d just turned eighteen. I’d traveled to my Grandma Annie’s house in Brasstown…I’m Caedmon, and I’m just a simple boy with a simple life…’ With that sensitive quality of prose Daniel unfolds this fine romance.

The plot is condensed as an invitation to the reader – ‘Every summer Caedmon goes to a little town nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina called Brasstown. While there, he spends time with his Grandma Annie, takes care of the property, and enjoys a respite from the big city where he lives. He's an eighteen-year-old virgin and a good boy, but this summer could be the one that changes his life forever. Darby is a loner. He used to have a nine to five job, a trophy boyfriend, and a nice condo in downtown Charlotte. But after his boyfriend Devin moved in, they quickly found out they were incompatible and wanted different things out of life. With a shattered heart, he decides to isolate from the world in Brasstown and pour all of his energy into making beautiful things from wood. But, he can't hide from love forever. When Caedmon starts coming by with treats from his Grandma Annie, they soon find out they have a lot more in common than either of them initially thought.’

Down-home sensibility adds a welcome luster to this little older man/younger lad romance – a story rich in nostalgia and quality erotica. Recommended.

Pivotal Decisions is book two of the Moonlight And Murder romantic suspense series.

This story is set in the Florida Everglades and involves virtual reality gaming technology. The book opens with a gruesome murder scene; a man so lost inside the gaming world behind his goggles that he appears not to notice his legs have disappeared. But why is he sitting on a chair in the middle of a swamp and why did the predator take only his legs?

Augee knew his best friend Jinx was worried, so when he received an odd text asking him to meet Jinx at a strange location, he invited wildlife ranger Sabine along too. What they found was horrifying. Concerned that his past might misdirect the police investigation Augee asks his estranged brother for help. Coyote Waylin hadn’t been back to Florida for six years, but he’d always tried to put his family first, even if it meant hurting the ones that he loved.

I liked this story, particularly how the animal life of the area enhanced the murder thread; it made me shudder several times. While you don’t have to know much about virtual reality gaming to follow the narrative, its theme just gives the story a 'current' touch. There are a couple of romance threads, one that overlaps from book one and a new one for Coyote. We first met Coyote in the previous book and I already liked his manner and principles; it was good to see him as a main character in this story.

Although this book could be read alone, I believe it would be more enjoyable when read as part of the series. Ideal for those who enjoy a murder investigation and who don’t mind mixing it with a reptile or two.
