**This book is available again on kindle as of February 2021, some errors in the dialogue have been corrected.** “It all started with a pair of lovers. A wizard was jealous of them. He turned the lovers into two enormous wolves. They had no other choice than to escape to the mountains, far away from the world of men. But the two wolves never forgot that they were once humans… Of course, neither I nor my mates thought this was actually true.”
Luka is a young wolf living in an isolated valley. After rescuing a man from a heavy snowstorm, she discovers she can transform into a girl. She wants to go with him back to his world, but that man disappears. With her new human form and convinced she can track him, Luka decides to leave her wolf clan and begins a journey full of action, tension and adventures. She will make friends and some enemies on the way, while following the scent of this mysterious man.
Nine years in the making drawing it while doing other work-for-hire comics and originally published in Argentina, this 232 page comic proved popular for both adults and middle-grade readers thirsty for long-form fantasy comics, through I recommend parent guidance until 12 for some standard fantasy violence and a couple of swear words.
I framed it for paperwhite, but some panoramic frames were cropped to fit the text, I recommend reading it in full page view in kindle fire readers or similar sized tablets . Print format is 148 × 210 mm. Original spanish version: “El viaje de Luka”. Published in Argentina.
I stumbled upon this comic on Amazon one day, so of course, being the wolf/werewolf fanatic that I am, I had to give it a try when I saw the beautifully drawn wolf on the cover. Luckily, I did not waste my time, and I would categorize this story as a hidden gem.
The medieval folklore tone pervaded the story, calling back to the origins of the werewolf legends of France. The art was expressive all the way through, and each of the main characters were interesting and worth following. The antagonists were a bit lacking in depth, but they worked well enough for the story. I found the English translation to be a bit choppy in areas; it was clear what the idea was in these instances, but it was still jarring nonetheless.
If you're looking for a graphic novel with a tight plot and fantasy world that is not overcomplicated, I would highly recommend this. I would love to see more by this author; she can draw some top-tier wolves.
A wonderful story about wolves turning into humans. I haven’t read comics for a long time and I’m very happy I decided to download and read this one. It took me back in time when I read “Hazañas bélicas”, a collection of comics about soldiers at war. I liked the characters and the expressions of the faces, fear, anger, sadness, sweetness. There were some surprises I didn’t see coming. Unfortunately, not all of them good. It was a very good decision to read this comic and I highly recommend it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was an alright story and passed a few hours. The illustrations were great, I really liked the style but would have loved some colour (they were all black and white). The story itself was interesting enough though felt a little forced at times and a bit dramatic which is probably because it’s aimed at younger readers. I also found the dialogue a bit strange at times, which may be because the authors first language is not English but it threw me off. So overall ok but wouldn’t particularly recommend
