Salome was raised in a fundamentalist community. She is being courted by the head of the church and has done little more than hold his hand as prescribed by their rules. She wears their uniform on her body and obeys their rules with all her heart, terrified that any deviation will cause the loss of her salvation.
She had been taught from the moment her breasts began to grow that she needed to hide the things away that may make men desire her. Men were hapless; they reacted to a woman’s wiles despite their desire for goodness and the quest for modesty and sobriety rested solely in her hands. She denies everything carnal that simmers within her and succumbs to manipulation and control that borders on abuse.
A chance meeting throws her into the world of the Nephilim where she meets a half demon named Braith who is the opposite of everything she has been taught. He is beautiful, powerful and empowering. He sweeps Salome off her feet and shows her that the line between good and evil is sometimes blurred.
She yearns to be free from her community and the indoctrination of her strict upbringing and considers joining his coven of half demon warriors who are about to embark on a war against their evil brethren.
But that would mean becoming an immortal and equally powerful "Daughter of the Night" and this would bring a whole new set of challenges.
Soothsayer is Book 1 of a 5 part series but can be read as a stand alone.
FROM THE AUTHOR: Soothsayer tackles fundamentalist thinking and every woman who has ever felt sympathy for a female raised in a patriarchal system will love the liberation of the main character.

♡ cinnamon roll hero ♡ worshipping hero ♡ fundamentalist/cult ♡ angels and demons ♡ slow burn
This was a book that I REALLY wanted to like, but secretly I was super worried that it was going to be cheesy or not fleshed out enough. In fact, I expected those things. After all, I'd downloaded this book for free!
I was so pleasantly surprised by how NOT cheesy this book was and how well done the world-building was! I feel like it's really hard to write a convincing story that involves angels and demons because of the religious aspect, especially if you involve God or Satan in the story.
While God didn't show up on page directly, Satan did I'm always intrigued by how Satan is portrayed in stories and movies and I really liked how he was written in this. He was convincing, his arguments made sense, he wasn't outright evil, but you could see how he is able to convince people to make the choices he suggests - because everything he is saying seems logical! He's scorned, but doesn't show that anger outright.
I am also FULLY invested in all the side characters in this novel. I want to read all of their stories and see who they end up with!
The heroine is one that I, in most cases, would hate. She grew up in an extremely fundamentalist/cultlike background - and at first she fully believes in that belief system. Thankfully, when she isn't so sheltered, she realizes how wrong her upbringing is and she grows into her own, independent woman, which is probably why it was tolerable.
And, you guys, THE HERO. If you like a hero who is battle a some inner demons (literally LOL), you'll love the hero in this one. He's such a cinnamon roll and he ADORES the heroine.
Highly recommend this book and will definitely be reading on in the series!
3.5/5 I was happily surprised! I'm always excited to read about people breaking out of restrictive situations, in this case a woman raised in a very controlling religious community with rather archaic views on women and their roles in society. It would have been a solid 4/5 stars but it still needs some editing. There were a lot of formatting mistakes, mostly in regards to quotation marks, that really bothered me and sometimes I was confused about who was speaking. And sometimes the dialogue didn't feel very natural. But overall very good! I will be continuing the series. I won this book in a goodreads giveaway.
I could have easily given this book 5 stars (which is rare for me) but there were just a few things that kept me from fully enjoying it.
1. The culty main character kept choosing the cult over her potential lover. In the end, she didn’t even choose him. She was sort of forced to choose him. It made me want her to lose him in the end. Sadly, she got a happy ending.
2. Why did she like him more than any of the other brothers? We never really got an explanation other than “I love him.” Well, she loved the other brothers too and was sexually attracted to them. I just never got it.
3. The author seemed to want to make the point that polyamory is morally wrong. Love is love. I found this very irritating.
4. The next book is about a brother that had a lover that was part of the Daughters but she chose Satan… the next book is about him and a new lover. I would much rather see this first daughter seek redemption and it be their love story. Isn’t redemption the point of the series?

3.5🌟. I enjoyed this first instalment - liked the characters (however the FMC was starting to get on my nerves with her constant crying/sobbing & tears 🤦🏻♀️). Liked the story - though I struggled with the style of writing, (now I get what reviewers mean when they say “too much telling & not enough showing”!) - which also made the dialogue sound very unnatural & strange (kind of like watching a movie with bad actors speaking their parts instead of immersing in the character) - not sure if this makes sense but that’s the best I can describe the writing style 🤷🏻♀️ Otherwise an ok start & I look forward to the next instalment.
I liked the plot but I didn’t like the main characters.
I didn’t like Salome because of how blind she was. Even though she had some reservations about how her church did things, she just ignored them and then later she still defends them.
From the beginning Braith was a bland character and I didn’t really care about him. When he really starts dating Salome, I hated his constant hesitations and how he was worried about his demon half.
I didn’t like Braith and Salome’s relationship either. It was boring and since I didn’t like either of the main characters, I didn’t care about them being together.
The plot was kind of interesting but there would be moments in the book when lots of information would be told at once and it would be a bit dull.
I liked the idea of the hell hounds, but they were only mentioned near the end in short scenes. Braith’s brothers were fine, but I really liked Colwyn, at least before his issues with Hannah, and I liked Sieffre.
I wasn’t sure if I would continue with this series as I didn’t like the main characters in this book, but I liked some of Braith’s brothers. However, the next book is going to be about Dyfan and I didn’t particularly like him in this book and I know that there is going to be the issue of Salome with him, which I don’t care about.
Ever pick up a book to read just because you want a light easy read.....and the cover caught your eye?!! Yes to all of that and it was free!
Well, i did not and could not put this down, i thoroughly enjoyed this book.
The characters were interesting, not overbearing or wimpy, the world building was great and story just pulled me in.
Nothing too taxing at all, just a wonderfully written bit of fantasy that i became so engrossed in that i didn't notice the day had disappeared. I will definitely be reading the next one.
This is the story of Salome, a girl who breaks free from a conservative restrictive community after meeting Nephilim. This book is about rebealling against established ideas and fighting for your own beliefs.
The world building was excellent and the characters were pretty solid.
This book is perfect if you like a romance that isn't rushed, a heroine that fights against her nature and a hero who is half demon fighting for redemption.
