CAN A VENGEFUL KILLER BE STOPPED BEFORE THE NEXT GIRL DIES?

In this gripping third book in the Mercy Harbor Thriller series, a troubled young woman seeks refuge within an isolated Florida commune. After two of her friends go missing, she suspects the peaceful community hides a deadly secret, and soon realizes that she has become the target of a heartless killer.

Retired detective Pete Barker vows to find his runaway daughter and bring her home. When his search leads him to Florida’s swampy backwoods, he uncovers an unsettling connection between a secretive commune and a series of grisly murders.

Desperate to save his daughter, and determined to catch the twisted killer, Barker turns to his ex-partner, Detective Nessa Ainsley, and enlists the help of Eden Winthrop, a woman dedicated to saving Willow Bay’s most vulnerable citizens.

But as the killer’s shocking motive is unveiled, and the body of yet another innocent victim is discovered, Barker’s last chance to save his daughter brings him face-to-face with pure evil.

The commune was not exactly what she thought it would bed. After two of her friends go missing, she decides she must run. The peaceful community was at one time peaceful ... but no longer with the new leader. He's hiding something ... something that makes her the target of a killer.

Retired Detective Pete Barker is looking for his runaway daughter. He finds himself looking at the secretive commune ... and possible ties to a series of murders.

Although this is easily read as a stand alone, I highly recommend starting at the beginning of this series. There are relationships and connections that have expanded over time ... and it's always better to have the backstory of any recurrent character.

The story premise is a good one, filled with mystery and suspense... a real page turner. The characters are finely drawn. I enjoy how they all relate to each other. Even though the ending is sufficient, there is a hint of further books in this series.

Many thanks to the author / Booksirens for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Mercy Harbor Thriller book #3

“Catch the Girl” as the same heart-pounding suspense as its predecessors and by far does not disappoint. It continues the exciting story of Willow Bay and of the wonderful players that make this series an exciting read. It can easily be read on its own, the author provides enough explanations of past events that if you pick up at this point you will not have problems but I must say it is a plus to have read “The River Girls” and “Girl Eight” first since much of the characters have evolved with time.

In “Catch the Girl” we have a young woman seeking refuge in a Florida commune but when two of her friends go missing she suspects the community is not what she thought it was and discovers that she may be the next target of a ruthless killer. As the story unfolds, the dedicated teams of WBPD Nessa, Janhowski and Baker and the long-time heroes Eden, Reggie, Leo, Frankie and Duke which have never in the past hesitated when a woman`s life was at stake to risk all, even their own safety, they are not about to start now…. So they spring into action and following their every moves I couldn`t help flipping pages and be very captivated by what was going on.

This story is a mystery but this time the plot contains more about the character’s personal relationships that in the previous installments. Knowing a little more about them simply helps us to love them more. Baker is looking for his run-away daughter, turns to Nessa and Eden for help and with the WBPD they are looking into a secretive commune……and possibly the source of multiple murders….Of course we have Eden and Leo friendships gaining strength. Awe romance is in the air…

The plotline is filled with mystery and is very suspenseful, quite a page-turner. We have Ruth who needed help and ends up at Mercy Harbor traumatized. She soon disappears and is found dead hanging under a bridge, on her forehead is a carving similar to an earlier discovery of a lifeless woman at a gas station. It doesn’t stop there we have various threads of intrigue woven throughout and many twists to surprise us…Eventually the strands come together to a satisfying climax….. This is a nicely penned storyline with warm characters to play out the scenes.

First, I would like to thank BookSirens and the author for providing me with a free Kindle ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Catch the Girl is the third book in the Mercy Harbor Thriller series. Although this book can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the first two novels, The River Girls and Girl Eight. Although the author provides brief explanations about the events in the first two novels, much of the character development occurred in The River Girls.

Catch the Girl maintains the same level of heart-pounding suspense that I have come to expect from a Woodhall novel. We have a fantastic team dedicated to saving the lives of women and girls in danger. Despite multiple crooked cops being exposed in the Willow Bay Police Department, Nessa, Jankowski, and retired detective Barker uphold justice and continuously put the safety of these women above all else. Our other heroes, including Eden, Reggie, Leo, and Frankie, also never hesitate to act when a woman's life is on the line, frequently risking personal safety.

I was happy to see that this book contains more content about the characters' personal relationships than the previous installment. Being able to see how these events affect their personal lives makes them more relatable, and as a reader, I am cheering for each character's happily-ever-after. This is not meant to imply that this is a romantic series, because it really is not; for instance, my hope for Nessa is that her marriage will remain strong despite her long hours and limitless ambition.

On that note, I am happy that Barker is finally searching for his daughter. Taylor had walked out after her mother died, blaming her father for causing her mother's cancer with his cigarette smoking. In his search, he discovers a strange commune with shady characters, and when two girls are murdered and traced back to the commune, his desperation to find his daughter intensifies.

There are just a couple scenes that were unrealistic, which is why I cannot give this book a perfect rating. For instance, the National Guard would never let a soldier use weapons for a civilian investigation. Not in a million years. Especially since this case has absolutely zero relation to national security. Being in the military myself, this irked me. Aside from this, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I am excited to embark on the newly released fourth installment, Girls Who Lie.

With Christmas approaching fast, the last thing Eden needed was to find a girl in dire straits, handed over to her by the local postman, who had found her by the roadside on his rounds. When she tries to get some information form the girl known as Ruth, Eden realizes this isn't going to be easy and asks her friend and colleague to help out which results in an outburst of fear from Ruth. What they are unaware of, is that she has escaped with her friend from a local commune however her friend is now dead and they are coming after Ruth. Added to this, ex detective Pete Barker is trying to find his missing daughter who may or may not have something to do with the commune, and you have another tight page turning story from Melinda. Overall I would give it 4.5*....it just became slightly convoluted for me at the end.

Loved this 3rd book in the Mercy Harbor series. As a fan of the first two books I was really looking forward to this one, and it did not disappoint! Enjoyed reading about the characters I love, as well as some new ones that were great additions, and the story was original and compelling. Didn’t want it to end and I’m hoping more are coming soon in the series! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a new thriller series.

Terrific Series

This the third book in The Mercy Harbor Series and it doesn't disappoint. It continues the story of Willow Bay and the wonderful Eden, Nessa and, of course, Duke. You can enjoy this book without reading the first two books but I encourage you to start with "The River Girls" so you can fully enjoy the connections between the characters. And again, the twist surprised me! Totally Recommend.

I have been thoroughly enjoying this series by Melinda Woodhall as I have gotten to know the characters, the storylines and plot are thrilling and the book keeps you captivated. At the end of Book #2 we learned more about Barker's daughter, Taylor who disappeared three years ago, and now more than ever, Pete Barker is determined to track her down. The book then jumps to two girls running for their lives - Candy and Ruth. We learn that they were part of a commune that has turned cult-like after the death of Father Jed and his son Jacob - an ex-felon took over. Ruth was given by Sister Marie - the address to Mercy House run by Eden Winthrop. Ruth turns up shell-shocked and scared, Eden tries to help her with Reggie's help and soon learns of her terrible ordeal especially when a dead body turns up and then Ruth goes missing, Eden can't help to think it's connected. Meanwhile, we read as Sister Marie is having a hard time at the commune and strange things and evil are in the air. Can Eden with the help of her police buddies Nessa and Janowski and ex-police officer Barker track down where Ruth and Candy came from and the strange things happening before more are killed, especially when it seems that DNA links back to a double-murder and kidnapping that happened over twenty years ago. Also, will Barker be any closer to finding his Taylor? On the love side it looks like Leo is ready to pop the question to Eden, but what will happen when Eden's ex Nathan and business partner head back to visit her and the kids in Mercy Harbor, Has Leo missed his opportunity? Find out in Book #3 of this wonderful mystery/thriller series - Catch The Girl by Melinda Woodhall.

Nessa's former partner Det. Barker is looking for his daughter who left 3 years ago. when he stumbles onto a cult like group he believes his daughter may be there and is determined to get in and find out. In the meantime Eden runs a group home for women in need from drugs to abuse. When another woman shows up with Eden's name written on it then disappears Eden is determined to find her. When Barker and Eden find out they are looking at the same place 2 women have been murdered can these be the woman they are looking for, is there more corruption in Willow Bay and if so can this tiny little town take one more hit. This book had lots of suspense and action. The storyline was well plotted and the characters fully developed.

He’s been searching for his daughter for several years now without success. His former partner on the force and a friend that’s a lawyer have helped with no luck. Now young women are turning up dead and he fears his daughters body will be the next one found.

I received a copy of this book from booksirens in exchange for an honest review.

I have read all three books, and I liked this installment in the series the best so far. It really delved more into the personal relationships of the main characters, and I feel as if I am getting to know them, which makes me root for them as I am reading. It also had a couple of really happy endings, and who doesn't like those?

Thank you to BookSirens and the author for this free book.

I really like this series which I happened to start with book 4. Even knowing what happens to some of the characters in the later book this story still held my interest until the end.

I guessed some things before the ending but not all.

The first two books in Melinda Woodhall’s Mercy Harbor series had lots of plot twists, and Catch the Girl continues the trend. Really enjoy Nessa Ainsley, Eden Winthrop, Reggie Horn and the other returning characters. A couple of things happened that I didn’t believe the people involved would do, which is why I’m giving this four stars. It can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the series in order to get acquainted with the town of Willow Bay and the characters.

After the harrowing end to the investigation in Melinda Woodhall's previous book you would hope all the main characters could settle down for a quiet run up to Christmas. Nope!

When a young woman arrives at Eden Winthrop's offices without any real idea why she's there except for the fact that the address was on a piece of paper she had in her pocket it is clear she needs all the help the organisation can offer. The Mercy Harbor Foundation helps women in abusive relationships or who are addicts, and although neither seems to be the case this time that doesn't stop Eden wanting to find out what happened to her unexpected guest.

Once again the third book in this series is action from the word go. The scene setting is first class and realistic. It had no problem giving me the heebee jeebies when the descriptions of alligators and snakes were included. Although one part of the story was clear to me from the start others were a total surprise and the resolution of the main investigation was both shocking and satisfying. As in previous books Ms Woodhall also gives the reader an insight into how the main protagonists are recovering or moving on which ties most things up very nicely.

I received a review copy for free thanks to BookSiren and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who has read the previous books or enjoys a first rate thriller. I hope there will be more to come in this series as I for one definitely want to carry on reading.

Another brilliant book by Melinda Woodhall, this one is the third in the series, each one as good as the last. It is a standalone book but the author has cleverly incorporated old friends from the previous books.

Eden Woodthorp runs a sanctuary in Mercy Harbour for girls in trouble. This story begins when a young woman turns up on her doorstep wearing hand made clothes and clutching a piece of paper with Eden's name and address on it. Eden contacts her friend, Nessa Ainsley at the police department for help.

Two grizzly murders occur in quick succession and Eden thinks that she is in some way to blame.

Nessa's ex partner, Pete Barker is looking for his missing daughter who he thinks is in danger, he is determined with the help of Nessa, to bring her home safely.

This book contains everything, murder, kidnapping, palpable suspense and gentle romance.

I love a book that is difficult to put down and Melinda Woodhall had definitely accomplished that with this series, the suspense starts on the first page and finishes on the last one. I can highly recommend this book,

This is the third book in a series of mystery, police procedurals. I think you could read it independently of the other books but you should probably read the other books first. The characters and their relationships are developed in more detail in previous books so it will enhance your understanding if you read them in order. It will hold your interest even though you can guess at the storyline and where it's headed. Good read. I received this book as a complimentary copy for an unbiased review. I received this as an ARC free for an honest review.

This the third book in the Mercy Harbour series. This is a gripping thriller that details the desperate search for retired Detective Pete Barker's daughter, Taylor. His search leads him into swamps of Florida and a link to a commune.

The commune has become a refuge for many including Marie; but since their leader, Jed died and his son, Jacob took over things haven't been the same and there's evil lurking in the shadows. This unsettling feeling drives Marie to help two of her friends but when they go missing she becomes the killer's next target.

As the motive behind the murders is revealed it becomes a desperate race to stop the evil claiming another life.

I loved this book. The pace is great with lots of suspense and there are lots twists, some more obvious than others.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written murder mystery book. It was extremely easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great murder mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

I thought the last book blew my mind, I was wrong. This book wasn't what I expected when I saw the title and read the first page. It could be a good Lifetime or Oxygen channel movie. You can read this book as a standalone, I feel like you should read this first two books first so you aren't trying to figure out what you are missing. As it mentioned in the last book, Pete Barker made the decision to search for his daughter, who left after her mother died. The book unfolds the life that she has been living at the commune and its members as it shows what Barker and his friends/colleagues are doing to find her in addition to figuring out who the vicious killer is. The twists and turns in this book made me not want to put the book down and to keep reading late at night. The commune reminded me of the Amish with the gardens and fruit trees, no electronics allowed, simple clothing and shoes, and the secluded location. The leader of the commune rubbed me the wrong way from the get go and it didn't surprise me how he ended up. Sometimes people like him get what they deserve. The killer was not who I thought it was and when the killer was revealed and what they had done, I was shocked and a little impressed. Not any cold blooded killer would be that smart to have that complex of a plan and to cover their tracks the way they did. I don't want to give anything away so you just need to read the book for yourself. This book is about second chances in a way and Nessa said it best while she was talking with her husband, "..everyone makes bad choices sometimes, but they usually get a second chance to set things right." I full heartedly believe that statement is true to an extent, because not everyone deserves a second chance. There is a HEA and cliffhangers in this book so I definitely can't wait to read the last book in the series to see what happens next in Willow Bay and how things play out for all the characters. Every book seems to be better than the last and I recommend this book and the whole series.

I received an ARC copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing my thoughts on it.

Yes another five stars for this author and the Mercy Harbor series.

Let's imagine for a moment, the Hansel and Gretel story, but let's rewrite it a bit. There are breadcrumbs, but they lead to the witched house, instead of home. That is exactly how I can describe the way Melinda has woven this story. The breadcrumbs are all the little clues and titbits that the author gives you, until BANG, you are in the witches house and all hell is breaking loose.

That is how it felt ... the first ±50% of this book was a careful laying of the foundation of this story, keeping you turning the pages as you get totally immersed in the story and the old, and new, characters in the book; and then from there on it is a wild roller-coaster ride as everything just happens, almost at once. The last 10% of the book is where the author brings all the pieces together and helps you understand and, to a large degree, feel what the characters are feeling.

I enjoyed this book, as much as I have enjoyed the previous two books in the series, and as I move on to the final book in the series, with trepidation, hoping that none of my favourite characters are going to be killed, and excitement - looking to see what tale the author is going to weave now!

If you have read the previous two books in this series, don't stop now - read this one too. If you haven't, then read the other two so that you can read this one. Of course, this book can be read as a standalone, however you won't be able to feel like I do, having come this far with Eden, Hope, Devon, Leo, Nessa, Barker, to name but a few of my favourites, if you don't read them all.

Book 3 in this series once again finds Eden trying to come to the rescue of a young woman, who rather than going missing, on this occasion turns up at Eden’s refuge. Whilst this is going on Barker is trying to find his daughter who has been missing for some time. Could there possibly be a connection?

I have found all the books so far in this series to be very addictive, but they all do take a while to get going; this book is no different. Once you get into it though, you do not want to put it down as you need to know what is going to happen next. The other key strength of this book is the central characters, who do such a good job of supporting Eden as the main character. You find yourself totally engaged with the characters and they do play with your emotions. Their storylines are as important as the main storyline.

As well as a good group of characters, there is great plotting of the story, with so many different layers to it. The author does a good job of bringing this altogether before the end of the book. Great pacing and tension is evident within the book, and the complex events are brought to a great conclusion; although not without the central characters being at risk as events come to a head.

I strongly recommend this book and series, and wait with baited breath to get to the fourth book in the series. I look forward to read ing many more books by this author, who has become a personal favourite.

Catch the Girl by Melinda Woodhall is the third book in the Mercy Harbor Series. This book finds Eden Winthrop drawn into another missing person case when a girl shows up at her Women's Shelter terrified and seeking safety. With the help of Reggie Horn, the director of Eden's Mercy Harbor Foundation they try to find out what has terrified the young woman so much that she cannot remember what happened to her. Before they can gather enough information to help her she disappears. Now Eden must once again call on Detective Nessa Ainsley for help in trying to find her. This is just the beginning of an investigation that develops into a much bigger and more serious case.

The thing I most love about Melinda Woodhall's books is that even though they can be read as stand alone's they each interconnect through the cast of characters. Even the early series contain some of the same core group of characters though each of them has the main focus on a different one. These characters are compassionate and extremely focused on solving the cases and saving as many of the victims as they can while bringing the guilty to justice. The plots are well written and contain intriguing mysteries that keep my interest throughout. I always look forward to reading the next book.

I received an ARC of this book. My opinion of it is voluntarily given.

A young woman named Ruth arrives at Eden's shelter asking for help after witnessing her friend being murdered. Eden tries to help but Ruth mysteriously disappears from her room at the shelter. Meanwhile Pete Barker is still looking for his missing daughter, & when he meets two young men from a commune near the woods, he shows them her picture. Although they deny knowing her, Barker is certain they are hiding something & asks Nessa to help investigate their compound. It may not be a moment too soon as there is something rotten at the heart of the group.

Pete Barker & police detective Nessa take center stage in this one with Eden & Leo as more peripheral characters. After the frenetic pace of the previous book, this one was a little slower, (perhaps a little too slow in places), however, the plot itself was good & I couldn't wait for those responsible to get their comeuppance. There wasn't enough Duke though!

This series is addictive! Once again Eden gets drawn into the nastiness of human beings in Mercy Harbor. I enjoy seeing her grow, it one step forward two steps back, one step forward and shes making progress. A private church group (or cult) that provided faith, support and love lost its leader and the new leader is the exact opposite of goodness. Leo is also here trying defending someone he believes is innocent. The police department is in upheaval after the devastating corruption and evil of its last police chief. This book is laying out the grounds for change and I cannot wait for book 4. Yes, as I type this I know its out and I will go grab it. This provides multi plots, some of which connect and so much more Its great to reconnect and be a part of Mercy Harbor, its good and its bad. I appreciate the author, Melinda Woodhall and Booksirens for letting us read books as arcs that have been published already. I freely share my thoughts and opinions. I recommend any book this author writes! There will always be a twist you didn't see coming.

This the 3rd book of the Mercy Harbour series. It can be read as a stand-alone, but is best read in sequence of the series, so that the character development, history and backgrounds are understood.

The story centres around a strange commune in the country and Pete Barker’s search for his daughter. We again revisit with the characters we have met in the last 2 books, however it was a nice chance for some of the more minor characters to become more front and centre in this story, as it takes a team effort to solve this murder mystery and save innocent lives. This is again a fast paced page turner, waiting for the villains to be revealed. It was a nice touch that one of the true master mind villains was not who you expected it to be or the final reveal on back story was a surprise reveal in itself.

Many thanks to the author / Booksirens for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Intriguing mystery. Familiar characters. This is my second book to read in this series, and I like seeing the relationships grow and develop. I enjoy the camaraderie of the Mercy Harbor residents  as they work together to solve crimes. Suspense builds as pieces of the puzzle begin to reveal themselves and fit together. The murderer is cruel, vindictive, and sly and corrupts an innocent. How many innocent lives will be lost before this criminal is caught? If it is up to Eden, Nessa, Leo, Iris, and the rest of the team, they will solve this mystery and get justice for the victims.
At times, I felt impatient when different people had clues that needed to be shared with the rest of the group. I wanted them to put the pieces together sooner. Of course, this helps build the suspense. I look forward to reading more of the Mercy Harbor Thriller series.

This is book 3 in the Mercy Harbor Thriller series.
Since the sudden death of their leader, the commune had changed and sister Marie no longer felt safe. And after hearing two of her sisters were missing she decided it might be time to leave. The new leader was hiding something and it felt like pure evil was amongst them.

Retired detective Pete Barker is looking for his runaway daughter, he finds a connection to the commune which also has possible links to two recent vicious murders. So he enlists the help of his ex partner Detective Nessa Ainsley and Eden Winthrop who runs a local refuge, to help catch an evil killer and save his daughter before she becomes the next victim.

A fast paced thriller of a story, will all your favourite characters from the previous books of the series. Would highly recommend this series.

Retired Detective Barker received information of the whereabouts of his daughter. Upon investigating he thought it was a dead end until a slip of a tongue gave him another clue.
When Taylor's mother passed away she was so devasted that in her time of grief she blamed everyone. She left home and ended up at a commune. With the leader dead she no longer felt safe. Then two of her friends were murdered. Would she be the next victim?
Evil lurks in the shadows claiming to be the angel of God. Residents of the commune are going crazy.
I'm so hooked on this series! I strongly recommend if you enjoy thrillers.

I am torn. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Catch the Girl and therefore want to give it five stars. However, I also found the overall story to be more predictable than the earlier books in this series, which makes me think four stars may be a better choice. I am going to go with the five stars, with two warnings. First, if predictable storylines irritate you, maybe you don’t want this book. But please remember that this is a good police procedural with interesting characters. Secondly, this book can act as a spoiler, if you haven’t read the two earlier books in the series. Don’t read it yet, if you haven’t read the previous books.
