Wanted: Women and Babies. Where: Shotgun Ridge, Montana. When: As soon as possible!
She’s on the run for her daughter’s life…and her own.
Abbe Shea witnesses the mob hit of her fiancé and the killer’s warning is clear: talk and he’ll be back for her two-year old daughter. Abbe flees Las Vegas and makes her way to Shotgun Ridge, Montana…and to the safety of Grant Callahan’s horse ranch.
Grant rents Abbe the ranch guest house, but he has his suspicions. She’s sexy and intelligent—and her little girl wins his heart immediately. Still, years as an elite member of the U.S. Special Forces tells him Abbe is hiding something. Then the FBI comes looking for her, and Grant wants the truth.
When Abbe admits her connection to Vegas crime boss—and to him—Grant is stunned. Her revelations could destroy his reputation as a breeder of million-dollar horses. Yet right now, all that matters to Grant is protecting Abbe and her daughter. Because if the feds have found her, the mob isn’t far behind…
“Mindy Neff weaves a tale with lots of action, twists and surprises. Abbe and Grant are well developed characters put in their places by an all too cute two-year-old with a doll named Lambie-pie. This is a must read.” Amazon Reviewer

This book had some elements that I really liked. The mob boss' daughter who didn't know what he did for a living was a good premise. Somehow, it just seemed like the book was written on the surface and I didn't feel deeply for any of the characters. The people in the town were all just too good to be true. There were no petty or bitchy people, just not realistic. I also thought that the scene in the saloon where the back story of every couple was explained was just too much. I knew immediately that these couples had had stories. I didn't need to have a recap of each previous book.
On the plus side, having worked on a horse breeding farm myself, I liked that the breeding details were right and I appreciated that the author did not try to give human values to the horses.
However, there was one scene that was just odd. The heroine was a city girl, scared of horses. This was a big operation. There were plenty of hired hands to do the work. Why then was there that odd scene where the heroine was cleaning stalls? There was no explanation, no scenes leading up to it, no reason for a guest at a multimillion dollar breeding farm to be cleaning stalls especially with a wheel barrow since most of the bigger equine operations use more modern equipment (bobcats and manure spreaders etc.) Why did the three brothers just stand and watch her? She shooed them away saying she had work to do. This was a scene that contributed nothing to move the story forward just a chance to have the heroine fall down in manure. Hmmm.
Loved this book. Loved the little town of Shotgun Ridge and the people in it. I just wanted to crawl in the book and be a part of the community. The storytelling was fun and the suspense was believable. Looking forward to another Mindy Neff read.
Having read all of Mindy Neff's book in her popular series I was a bit disappointed with this one.
A few reasons. It is hard to really explain that the character wasn't as likeable as her previous characters had been.
Grant (male character who was in her previous books and was liked in those as a secondary character) came off as a jerk at the start.
Abbe Shea (the female character) can't understand WHY he is upset that she came to his place on false pretenses. Not to mention that their is a price on her head and she didn't CARE that she was subjecting others to murderers.
There wasn't that chemistry between her male and female character that she had in her previous Shotgun Ridge books (which I have them all).
In her previous books the love making was not as graphic as this one was. I really was disappointed to see her talk about her [...] and a few other scenes in the book. I like smutty in context.
The Pop (her adoptive father and Grant's biological father) in the book is a thug. Sorry, he was too coward to get out of a criminal family. Yet, we should all love him? Why for having people killed? Laundering money? Being in the Mafia?
Grant gets shot in the shoulder and passes out? Then an hour later he is heading a mission AFTER he passes out, takes Abbe's daughter to the medicine doctor (he passes out but can drive) and is doctored by the medicine doctor, then leads a group of ex-Army men to rescue Abbe. It doesn't add up and neither does this book.

The meddling matchmakers of Shotgun Ridge are right back up to their old tricks - but this time they have Grant Callahan in their sights! Abbe Shea - a woman with a three year old daughter is on the run from the Mafia. She witnessed her fiance's murder but has kept her secret for five months to protect her daughter, Jolene. Abbe finds a file that her grandmother had compiled over many years about the town of Shotgun Ridge and it's residents. This place is so far removed from organized crime that Abbe feels it will be a safe place for Jolene and herself to hide. The flow of this story is superb - it draws you in from the first page. I also like that it continues along with other characters from previous books in the series - everyone is included. It is a great addition to the series. Shotgun Ridge is pure protection of a mother and child in need. You worry, you cry, you giggle and you downright laugh! It is one hot romance book to read with lots of suspense and intrigue thrown in. It has a hunk of a hero to defend Abbe and Jolene and maybe find love as well. There are lots of tears - be prepared with tissue. It is a semi-family in total turmoil. It has hot passion, tenderness, hunger, sweetness, and most of all encompassing love. It was an absolute treat to read with lots of surprises thrown in. I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I absolutely loved this book. It was perfect in every way!!! Grant and Abbie were wonderful together and Jolie with Lambie made me smile over and over!!! This storyline was so suspenseful..... It was filled with so many twists and turns that kept it so interesting!! The book was also filled with romance, sensuality, sweetness, laughter, family and friendships. It was a delight to read! All of Mindy Neff's books touch the heart while at the same time making the stories sexy heartwarming, humorous, deeply moving and just plain enthralling!!! I highly recommend this excellent book you will be So glad that you read it!!!!
“Shotgun Ridge :Bachelors of Shotgun Ridge Book 7”
What a marvelous read! This book hooked you from the first page and kept you going until the end! A woman with a three year old little girl, running from the Mafia, and a rancher who breeds horses and is a special agent at times meet at his ranch where the woman has run to in her plane to get away from the people she thinks will try to kill her daughter, just as they killed her husband. She thinks she’s just going to leave her daughter there to protect her, when things don’t go quite as planned. Everyone should read this book as I couldn’t put it down,it’s just that good, but it’s five A.M.and I really have to get to bed!
Visiting Shotgun Ridge makes me happy.I enjoy all of the characters in the town. Mildred and Opal are always a hoot. I love the fact that this series is not full of angst.
I liked Grant and Abbe, but Jolie stole the show. The whole Mafia premise was interesting as we also got information about Grant's mother and Abbe's mother.
I now have to read the rest of the Texas Sweethearts series, and am looking forward to Clay's book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Best book of the series in my opinion. I loved the romance, action and drama balance, as well as the connection to the Texas Sweethearts. Grants character was well captured between being in the Special Forces and a cowboy/civilian. Abbe was likable and definitely not a damsel in distress. It was great to see growth in her character over the course of the book. Thank you Mindy!
Western, Mafia, small town romance. Book 7 of a series. Read okay as a standalone but maybe there would have been more backstory to help flesh out the story better if I had read the books before this one. Some heat. The characters are likeable.
Grant was expecting anyone to fly into their place but Abbe sure down aeroplane at their airstrip one day. She had brought her and her daughter there for his help. The matchmaker a are at it again. Dang I wish I had them in my life
Another wonderful book. This series is full of stories about love and heartache. Each character has been given a task and they have completed them with honor and dignity. Finding out who your relatives are and finding the truth can be a hard pull to swallow.
You would think it is easy to fall in love with the main characters, and it is, you bet! But this time I fell in love with a precocious 3 yr old little girl named Jolie. And her sidekicks lambie pie and Harley.
Abbe comes to Shotgun Ridge to hide out knowing a tough ex Army Ranger is there to protect her. It doesn't take long for complications and love to settle in. This book keeps you interested and keeps you reading
This is an interesting book about a young woman from a mob family who is saved by her step brother whom she latter marries. Yes it is a twist with a great ending. Read it. Big D
I’ve read all the books in this series and The Texas Sweetheart series and loved everyone of them. If you looking for something to read this series is great with lot of laughs and love.
but it's a really good story. One adorable child takes command of your heart and your funny bone. There's a lot of laughter mixed in with an unsure path to the ending. Great read!
