I didn't really care for this book. I am torn between 1 star and 2 stars. There was no real story. Werewolf sees girl, stalks girl, saves girl, stalks some more, sexes up girl, falls in love, marries girl; all within a one week span. I mean they go on one date at the end of which hot sex is had. Girl is immediately in love, but knows he is not quite human. I guess the plot is; Werewolves need love too. There is no real backstory about the wolves only that they moved to New York from Maine and own an architecture firm, oh and of course they are all tall, broad shouldered and rich. The story was predictable. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen.
Unfortunately I had picked up this story for free on ebook back in 2015 before this author showed her ass as an ABB (Author Behaving Badly). I will never read anything by her. Ever. Want to know why? Go to Twitter and search #cockygate.
At first I had to get over the fact that her “friend” Rose was an annoying, bitchy drunk that had to be escorted home. It may just be a personal thing, but I don’t really care for that sort of thing and don’t think it is cute. I’d blame my not liking the rest of the story on that, but it wouldn’t necessarily be true. It didn’t seem like there was very much to the story and I got more of a tell vibe when it came to the introduction of the other characters/werewolves. There was the playboy/don’t care what others think one, the rabidly hates all women because of previous experience guy, the easy going guy, and well they all seemed rather predictable. I also didn’t get the fact that they happened to also be werewolves. It didn’t mesh for me ... they were too nice/clean cut for me to believe it. Her acceptability of everything seemed to be too easy. Their “relationship” read like the magic love fairy wacked them with her love wand and voila! They had insta love. The story wasn’t bad if someone was just looking for a quick and easy read for a diversion and likes this sort of set up. It just wasn’t the type of story for me.
“Werewolves of New York: Nathaniel” is the first in a series, I enjoyed the relationship between the "pack" members and hope to learn more about each one soon. Loved the story. Made me want to read all the books in this series although this book stands alone.
I've read a few reviews out there. And I'm really surprised (or not). I know we all have different tastes, but if not for sheer numbers I'd say they are all friends.
Let's see why. There's no plot, no characterization, no world building, no back story. No credibility, at all. In a short story about werewolves, they aren't the least credible point. By far. The writing is dull, when not downright boring. The only positive thing I can muster is that it's not awful.
This short novella should have stayed in the trunk. Even at 0.99 I can't really say buy it. But it won't bankrupt you if you'd prefer to make up your mind on your own.
2.5Stars - Pretty boring. The writing style was a mix of telling and showing.. heavy on the telling side. It felt more like someone telling you a story rather than something you can fully emerge yourself in. The overall plot left a lot to be desired. Not a lot of action and not a lot of romance. The 1- love love scene was very mild. 1/5. Overall the book wasn't bad...just not good either.
I love paranormal romance novels (writing them and reading them), and the cover and blurb of this one caught my eye on Amazon. Am I glad that I read it, for it’s better than some similar so-called novels I have recently stumbled upon in this genre.
“Werewolves of New York: Nathaniel” is the first in a series, and it won me over with its fluid writing style, with the hunky but emotional and strong as well as intelligent hero and with the credible, likeable heroine. Nathaniel is a hunk full of alpha male qualities, but with a softer, good core beneath that I sometimes miss when it comes to shifter stories. I fell for him just as hard as Michelle. As for her, she was the right mix of brainy, vulnerable, determined and vivacious to make me root for her. She’s a great match for Nathaniel and the others of the bunch. Speaking of bunch, there’s a whole pack of delectable werewolves to drool over. As Book 1, this novel introduces us to Nathaniel and his pack mates Eli, Darik and Dontae. I can’t wait to read their stories in the 3 other books of the “Werewolves in New York” series.
If you like werewolf stories with strong characters, a fast pace, sensual steamy scenes and not too much gory action, then this book will charm you as it has charmed me. Luckily for me, each book of this promising series can be read as a stand-alone with a happy ending.
Werewolves of New York-Nathaniel – Book 1 A captivating romantic standalone series.
Faleena's gift of writing truly shines as she lures readers into the world of Werewolves of New York.
This story features Michelle a curvaceous, audacious, intelligent, loyal, beautiful human; Nathaniel a sexy, strapping, drop dead gorgeous werewolf shifter.
PREVENTING A HEINOUS CRIME alters the lives of Michelle and Nathaniel forever.
The story is filled with amazing impressive and engaging characters, life threatening incidents, pent up rage and desires, camaraderie, superb banter, unbelievable powerful and fascinating vivid scene descriptions, explosive earth shattering heart-pounding romance leaving you awe-struck, and a fabulous ending that leaves you wanting more.
Incredible exciting well written read. The mixture of reality and fantasy made the story more intense. I adored this story; Nathaniel's undying devotion and Michelle's loyalty is well defined. If you love shifter stories with danger and exciting romance this is an excellent book for your collection. In the world of shifter romance the possibilities are endless but always fascinating... Without reservations I highly recommend this book and the series.
I'm always interested in finding a new-to-me author and although Werewolves of New York had an interesting slant, it was not the best shifter story I've read. The story felt a bit stilted in spots and the characters felt a bit cardboard although you could see where the author attempted to give them dimensionality.
3.5/5 stars.(RabidReads.com)Reading these books in the wrong order really didn’t matter to my enjoyment of these books. I recently reviewed the third in this series, Darik, and liked it well enough that I went back and continued with this book, first in this series.
Michelle Nero is out at a club to celebrate her best friend, Rose’s birthday. While trying to deal with her drunk friend, she sees the best looking man she has ever seen in her life. But she has to leave with her friend, and once she leaves her friend’s apartment, she ends up having to walk home and is attacked. After the attack, someone she doesn’t see saves her, and she runs for her life-leaving her purse(and ID) behind. When she finds out that the would be rapist has been savagely killed by a wolf, she is pretty shocked. Nathaniel, a werewolf, had no idea when he went out that night that he was going to find his mate. Knowing this, he follows her to her friend’s apartment-which was an interesting way to meet a mate to say the least!
I enjoyed Michelle as the main character of this book. But Nathaniel, and the other members of his pack are great characters. I really liked them in Darik’s book, and in this book they were all just as fun, and a reason for what humor there is in this book, especially on Eli and Darik’s part. Central Park is one of their hangouts and where they have saved people from robberies and attacks many times in the past. Nathaniel killing the would be rapist was different, so they all know he feels differently towards Michelle.
This book was well written, however I did have a couple of problems with parts of the story. I know that insta-love is the norm for werewolves and it normally doesn’t bother me. But this one was probably the most extreme that I have read-and it made that part of the read a bit unbelievable for me. The other problem was how easily Michelle deals with Nathaniel being a werewolf. Over an above those two things, I did enjoy the book, especially the characters. It was a fast read at less than a day, and kept my interest. I have every intention of reading the next one in the series, Eli. I think Eli is my favorite of the pack so far, with Darik, a close second.
I would recommend this series to adult paranormal romance fans-adult due to some very steamy scenes in this good paranormal romance. Fun, but fairly short read.
I actually wasn't sure I'd like this. It was free to buy but I was intrigued. It was over 200 pages but seriously it didnt feel like it. It went oh so fast in reading it. I really liked it. There are SOME development issues but only a few. It had more to do with the actual story than the characters. I think what bothered me was how he got away with killing someone and not even been linked to it. I dunno maybe because werewolves are so far fetched of an idea in this world the author wrote that they wont even be considered a possibility. I thought well what if he left blood or something or his DNA. Does that transfer when he's shifted? Just wondering. LOL. Anyways that was my thought. I really like Nathaniel he was sorta the Alpha of the group but kinda not. I got a feeling yes its a pack but its all equal in a strange way? He's a wolf but he's not overly dominant. He was sweet and sexy and really kind but fierce when needed. I liked Eli, Darik, and Dontae. They are protective and a good bunch of guys. Dontae is definitely standoffish and wary of Michelle, and I can understand it but not everyone was like the woman who hurt him. Michelle is a great character. She's sweet and so nice but damn...dont piss her off! She can totally stand on her own...that "interrogation" was priceless! Her reaction? Even better! LOL. She's beautiful and protective of her friends. She runs her own business and doesn't have time for anything else. She meets Nathaniel and is drawn to him and knows there is something. When she finds everything out WHICH actually she figures out herself. She's pretty ok with what he is. I mean he saved her. She accepts him fully and will keep their secret which is really important. Things flew fast for them at the end. I enjoyed the book and the writers style. I am going to read the next book because frankly I gotta know what happens to the rest of the pack. :)
I want more! I found it to be an easy read that pulled me in and made me care about the characters and their lives. There was just enough steam to keep me wanting more but not so much that it became the story. I enjoyed the relationship between the "pack" members and hope to learn more about each one soon. Unlike other werewolf stories I found it refreshing that even in the heat of love or fight they still have control and can reign themselves in. They are more than just "animals". While there was enough werewolf in the story, there wasn't so much that it was the entire story. It wasn't a werewolf story as much as a story about finding true love - your fated mate. It was the prefect escape for me, we all need some fantasy in our lives and this was a wonderful fantasy. No matter how strong and independent we are it is always nice to have that someone special who sees us as prefect, flaws and all. Nathaniel is that man, whether we want to admit it or not, we all wish we had him or someone like him by our side. One warning; once you open this book be prepared to put everything else on hold so you can finish it. For the few hours it took me to read it nothing else matter, I was completely vested in the story. I received this A.R.C. copy in exchange for an honest review.
Book 1) This is a wonderful surprise romance !! No cliffhanger and it can stand alone, but I think the other stories will be more fun and richer if you know these terrific characters. An interesting, different fantasy tale, with super hot sex, and great people will make this worthwhile for you. Michelle knew better, but she walked home after dropping her friend at home. Trouble was right around the corner, she was going to be raped, when everything changed. She was told to run, and she did. Why was her purse on her front step when she woke up, she doesn't believe her memory. Michelle met Nathaniel, and he was a bit aggressive, she was wary. The job interview later in the week was odd, but then she saw Nathaniel. They talked, went to dinner, and back to her place. This was fun, fresh and fantastic !! Business men instead of rough guys, and civilized tailored suits, but the wolf is still under the skin. Loved all the characters, Dontae, Darik, Eli, and Nathaniel, plus Michelle's friends, Rose and Laura. This story will make you feel good and smile all day !!! ENJOY !!!
Lacerated by flashing blue and yellow club lights, Rose made her way through the crowd, yelling, "I need to get laid!!!"
Michelle is out celebrating with her friend Rose when she catches the eye of a handsome man. After taking a drunken Rose home, Michelle foolishly starts walking to her own apartment. She is attacked and almost raped but is saved by an unknown creature.
Nathaniel is a werewolf that works as an architect with his friends(and fellow werewolves) Eli, Darik and Dontae. He is also the handsome man from the club.
Nathaniel basically stalks Michelle until she agrees to go on a date with him.
The storyline is a little much to take. I find it hard to believe that Michelle would not freak out when she discovers Nathaniel true self on their first date. Everything seems rushed with no character building. The relationship moves far too fast to be believable.
Shame on Goodreads for removing my review. Since when do honest reviews get removed because an author and / or her fan club can't put on their big girl panties and deal with criticism? Goodreads just enables the cry babies by pandering to their complaints.
I read this book. It was a lousy book. Nothing about the plot or characters was original or different than many other books about werewolves. Rich men who can turn into werewolves are living in penthouses in Manhattan. They see / smell a particular woman and bam they've found their one mate. Most of the book is about how the werewolf is in lust but can't reveal his true nature to the subject of his desires. The heroine is so tstl that's she grateful for any type of male attention even though he sprouts fur.
Off the top of my head I can think of at least 6 other authors who've written the same type of story much, much better than this one. I won't besmirch their good names by associating them with this author.
I read this book when it was first released in 2015. It was bad. The werewolf finding his true mate plot has been done before so many different ways it won't walk straight for a week. The writing wasn't great either. It reminded me of a high school essay written the night before it was due. However, Faleena Hopkins was a new author. I hate being too critical of new authors. Give them time to grow, come back in a few years and try another book. That's not going to happen. I won't be reading any more books by this author. I wouldn't give her a penny I found on the sidewalk. I've changed my pity rating to reflect my true rating for the book.
If your looking for a sweet somewhat short story, look no further. This an amazing story about four werewolves and their lives in New York. Although it's a shifter story it doesn't have all that extras about pack order, it concentrates more on the romance they find and how the women react to their secret. Nathaniel prevents an atrocious crime against Michelle and his werewolf instincts flare in order to protector and maker her his. Love it sweet and simple!
What a great book and a standalone as well! The other book's are about his packmates, each of them have their own story and all standalones... I'm sure that they coincide with each other. She was a sassy heroine and he was the love and protector... love at first sight of those panties.... lol
I had a good time reading it and I hope you will as well.
I would recommend this book to adults due to the content.
I love this heroine and her take no b.s. attitude. Nathaniel is one of the hottest heroes I've come across in a long time. I love the pack...even Dontae (can't wait to read his story). This story has a great mix of action, heat, sass, and snark. Love this author and looking for great things!
Just insta-love and insta-marriage. It was weird. I don't mind some insta-love in some stories but the first date they have sex and profess their love for each other and he asks her to marry him. Then he shows her that he's a werewolf and she is not scared at all. I had to try and suspend disbelief beyond the obvious and I hate that!
What a great start to a new series. I love the book.Michelle and Nathaniel story. I really found the "pack" a interesting group and Dontae I can't wait to read his story. To be truthful I can't wait to read all of them.
I love this new shifter series. Most shifter books are usually under 100 pages, which I don't mind, but this one is longer. And thank goodness! I can't wait for the rest of the series! And thank you Ms. Hopkins for using KU!
This was the standard werewolf/mates/pack story. There was nothing to distinguish it from the rest of the genre. Proofing was poor, with extra commas, missing and extra words, missing apostrophes, "reign" for "rein," "pours" for "pores," and "formerly" for "formally."
It was one of those insta love , MINE. It didn't have much of a story line, it was more a story of him coming out and what she will thing, do , or say. I do look forward to reading the others in the series. Reviewed by GypsyBelle
Right from the start I really enjoyed the story. The characters were very likable and hilarious. I laugh out loud many times.
Michelle was a great female character. She wasn't the typical "Fall for a hot guy and all common sense goes out the door." She was actually a very smart woman that had a backbone to her. The male characters made the story what it was. All of them were likable and you could read their brotherhood. It was refreshing. She was a lead female character that reacted to certain situations like a normal human would, which I enjoyed loads. When she had to, she could be really direct. And I also LOVED how she realized that she didn't know Nathaniel, so she wasn't going to blindly ride a cab with him. That part was excellent.
The one character that at first I honestly didn't feel much for was Dontae. I literally felt nothing for this character until the interview/interrogation of Michelle. That's when I started to actually like him. But of course Nathaniel and Eli were the best ones for sure. Eli had me cracking up from the very start and it was a pretty easy read as well. I finished the first book in a day. It was a bit of a fast pace but i got used to it pretty fast.
I enjoyed this book enough to want to read the rest of the books in the series!!
And to think this was just a random pick from Amazon!
