Lisa Jackson is the number-one New York Times bestselling author of over ninety-five novels, including the Rick Bentz and Reuben Montoya Series, the Pescoli and Alvarez Series, the Savannah series, and numerous stand alone novels. She also is the co-author of One Last Breath, Last Girl Standing, and the Colony Series, written with her sister and bestselling author Nancy Bush, as well as the collaborative novels Sinister and Ominous, written with Nancy Bush and Rosalind Noonan. There are over thirty million copies of her novels in print and her writing has been translated into twenty languages.

Before she became a nationally bestselling author, she was a mother struggling to keep food on the table by writing novels, hoping against hope that someone would pay her for them. Today, neck deep in murder, her books appear on The New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly national bestseller lists.

With dozens of bestsellers to her name, Lisa Jackson is a master of taking readers to the edge of sanity—and back—in novels that buzz with dangerous secrets and deadly passions. She continues to be fascinated by the minds and motives of both her killers and their pursuers—the personal, the professional, and the downright twisted. As she builds the puzzle of relationships, actions, clues, lies, and personal histories that haunt her protagonists, she must also confront the fear and terror faced by her victims and the harsh and enduring truth that, in the real world, terror and madness touch far too many lives and families.

Book three in the Lisa Jackson challenge and part of the J challenge sees some geezer who is believed dead suddenly reappear (never really properly explained) and a woman who was told he was dead (again...) and him wearing his cranky pants the whole way through the book making him quite unlikeable.
There is a daughter involved of course, but she feels more like a plot device than an actual person.
The romance element feels forced and again like other books in this genre is either all or nothing, with nothing in-between.
It may be just dated but it felt like she was getting involved with a brute and the relationship left an uneasy feeling, with his demanding ways being a big part of the issue.
The whole thing left one feeling uncomfortable and not satisfied.

I love Lisa Jackson. And I love a good romance book that allows you to lose yourself in the characters. This was not that book. Definitely won’t be reading this one again. Granted, it was written in the 80s, so I expected to see some dated ideas of romance, but the guy was so arrogant, controlling, and manipulative throughout the entire book, that I couldn’t find any redeeming qualities. He acted like he hated her the entire time. I don’t care how much I’m attracted to a guy, if he treated me like that, he would be history. The girl came across as pathetic for putting up with it.

I probably should give it less than two stars, but it is Lisa Jackson.

I'm giving this a lower rating because I know she did well on this book, but having read many of her later books first, I was slightly shocked at this one. I felt bad I didn't like it more. If you like ! points, this is definitely the book for you. I thought there were way too many of those and I couldn't...really relate to any of the characters and the story didn't seem plausible to me. That being said, I love, love, love her work in general and so I would not base one lower review -in my opinion- on someone not reading her other works as they are very good and they flow well.

I love Lisa Jackson’s writing, however I have to remind myself that she started as a romance writer. While I enjoy the writing, I find myself rolling my eyes because of some of the “oh please” moments. Perhaps I am no longer a romantic in my old age, but I certainly hope I wasn’t that gullible when I was young.

Lisa Jackson is one of my most favorite authors. I have 1, 3 shelf bookshelf , with just her books. But this one, I was unimpressed. I thought Shane was an ass and Mara was weak af. But I try not to dnf, so....
