In the war on terror...sometimes the best weapon is a woman. Sarah Stevens is a washed-up military cop whose life is a shambles until she is offered a position as an agent with the CIA.
The thirty-year-old, overweight, down-on-her-luck Stevens goes to a secret training camp where she is transformed into a sexy and deadly agent whose mission is to stop, by any means possible, the financiers of terrorism against the United States and its allies. Sarah soon discovers that this is an exciting new life loaded with adventure, danger and undeniable temptations…
Lisa Woodward (formerly Pietsch) is an Air Force Veteran, a mom to two really cool young men, a Social Media Marketing Manager, and a multi published Author.
Lisa speaks French, Spanish, Norwegian and Russian. She has traveled the world as a U.N. Peacekeeper, was trained as a Hostage Negotiator by the FBI, and worked with MI-5 on personal security details. You'll find many of these interests and experiences in the Task Force 125 series, stories of espionage and paramilitary operations centered around the character of Sarah Stevens who is recruited into the CIA's Special Activities Division.
In 2023, Lisa remarried the man who inspired her Task Force 125 series and embarked on her biggest adventure yet. Look for more TF125 books coming in 2024.
The story of overweight, military cop Sarah. It's a bit of a makeover storyline. Sarah basically goes to fatcamp and becomes a kickass babe which was pretty cool. It was a bit sad though that as a fat person she was a forgettable loser that no one noticed or was nice to then she becomes a babe and everyone is wolf whistling her, bending over backwards to help her and showering her with jewels.
However, this was a fun, well-written tale. The author obviously knows her military info which I liked and there is a sense of personal progress here.
The storyline was pretty far-fetched. Suddenly it's all undercover in luxury suites with designer clothes. I am not really into clothes or Rolex's or how many jewels you have so it was a bit of an eye roll.
And everyone was a bit too beautiful. There were no ugly people mentioned. I guess they were all back at fat camp digging out latrines.
Also, for someone who is supposed to be so fit and healthy now, I didn't get much sense of Sarah working to maintain her fitness training or learning to eat healthily. She's sinking into a cheese burger, knocking back the tequilas and lighting up copious cigarettes within minutes. Sometimes I felt she was trying a bit too hard to be macho.
For a novel that seems to think about sex, talk about sex and feature so much sex, it was frustrating that every sex scene was glossed over pretty much. They were implied but I would say this is not an erotic romance. You'd get more description of the gun she was packing than the action she was getting.
So yes, not carrying a huge flame for women's rights is this one, but it was a fun, feisty read with a kickass heroine who saves burley marines and doesn't keep her head down when the fighting starts. She does break some guys rib after he breaks her nail... see what I mean here? Not sure it's my thing. Am considering the rest of the series but would need to be in the mood.
My review for The Path to Freedom from Sapphire Blue Publishing.
This isn’t traditional romance with a happily-ever-after, it’s a single-title military fiction/women’s fiction combo about a woman’s journey from an overweight loser into a sexpot, a svelte CIA agent. The story tracks her metamorphosis as she loses seventy-five pounds of fat and gains twice that much in confidence and armaments.
Sarah joins a team of men whose job it is to protect America from terrorist threats. Her hard-drinking, chain-smoking, take-no-prisoners attitude helps her become one of the boys. The only woman on the team, her job is to use her body to gain vital information. The success of their mission rests on her sex appeal.
Readers should be pleased with this entertaining tale from Lisa Pietsch, her first for the newly opened Sapphire Blue Publishing. The wonderful assortment of characters working for this special missions division of the CIA introduced in The Path to Freedom gives hope that many more stories will follow…please?
I have a small internet relationship with Lisa Pietsch and was delighted to review her first novel.
The heroine, Sarah, is a tough, but overweight marine who ends up at a bootcamp for fatties with potential. She's transformed into a sexy, incredibly fit beauty and ends up on a team of highly skilled hunks who together fight terrorism.
The element of gray was fascinating as it presented ethical dilemmas like are you willing to do something wrong (seduce and sleep with a terrorist) to work for a greater good (like putting that terrorist out of business). Sarah accepted the challenge and excelled in it.
The author knows a lot about the military and terrorism and was able to weave a mostly believable tale. There were a couple of exceptions. I found the VIP status that Sarah received in Las Vegas to be a bit over the top. I'm not sure I believe that sexy beauties are given that kind of preferential treatment. I think that was a bit exagerrated.
Also I thought the team was a little too good looking. I don't think I've ever known of any team of any kind where every single one was a hottie. That was a bit unbelievable too.
"Liquid courage" (martini) and "voice like a warm breeze" are two examples of Lisa's ability to paint scenes. She painted the steamy scenes exceptionally well, especially when Sarah showed Vince her seduction prowess. That was a great scene.
I found some of the italicized thoughts of Sarah's to be cumbersome and unrealistic. "Note to self, one of these days I'll clean that bitch's clock." The book could stand fewer of those monologues.
I enjoyed the book. I think Lisa plans to make a Sarah Stevens series and I'll enjoy reading more. It will be fascinating to see terrorism up close through this team of freedom fighters.
If you like girls with guns, and tough heroines involved in black ops, this is a great read. It's also interesting to know that the author knows what she is writing about. Read her impressive bio at the end. This type of story, although fictional, is probably pretty damn close to the truth. Thanks, Lisa for a fantastic read, full of action and tough romance. The only thing I didn't care for is that the two lovers are not reunited at the end. The book is rather short and ends on a cliff hanger. It looks as if a long book was somewhat divided in two stories for publishing reasons. If you decide to read this book, get book Two at the same time and read them in a row. Otherwise, you might be disappointed by the ending of book One. Still, I'm eagerly waiting for the next book from Lisa Pietsch.
The Path to Freedom is a great book if you're in the mood for a serious heroine make-over that will make you wish you could go through boot camp with a few hunky guys. It's action-packed and definitely an interesting story line. However, it's not a great read if you're hoping for a HEA ending. There is a HFN that leaves the reader to hope Sarah and Vince will eventually be together. Don't look for that to happen in this book. My only other issue with the story is the abrupt jump in the action from scene to scene. The author took care not to give much away when things start to get steamy. That left me flipping back a page a couple of times to make sure I didn't skip one. Adding a bit more to the love scenes and taking care with the flow of action between the characters would have made for smoother transitions. Overall though, a good read and a good, inspiring heroine.
Sarah Stevens is cheated on, lied to and kicked out of the life she had planned. Sent to a fat camp, she has one shot to bring her life back around to a new start. Little does she know, the camp is a training ground for spooks... more secret than any government agency than she has ever worked for before.
Put on a team with men that make your mouth water, Sarah is drawn to her boss. To prove she can help her country, and do her job, she must put personal feelings aside and enter into a world of mystery and espionage... where to fight the terrorists, they have sent a woman to see that the job gets done.
A thrilling, yet sometimes comedic, journey behind enemy lines and between the sheets of the enemy, this book was simply... fantastic!
I got about halfway through and sadly -- just had to shelve it. I had hoped the female protagonist would be strong and independent, but while she was really kick-ass, which I liked, she was a boy crazy horndog. I get it that she was happy with her weight loss. She loved all of the male attention she was getting, but it seemed unrealistic that she would just toss all of her insecurities and body issues away and toss on a bikini with a pool full of men and be as cavalier as she was. That being said, the plot did keep moving making a quick read. I am sure many others would find her appealing, it just wasn't for me.
Well what do you do after getting kicked out of the service? Well, 1) lose weight. 2) start a new life. Aaaannnndddd oh what a life it is. Read this series years ago and never reviewed it. Enjoying reading again.
A riveting read about a woman who has lost her self-esteem, then turns her life around and becomes a covert anti-terrorist operative. I can say I read it at a sitting.
The story starts in Algeria where Vince and his squad of US special operative soldiers are trying to extract a female from a setup with a drug dealer. The girl stupidly decides to tell the drug dealer the truth but he uses her as a shield, then, foreseeably, throws her out of his helicopter. The squad shoots him down, but needs to train up another female member.
Sarah Stevens is disgusted to be thrown out of the US Air Force. Okay, she's overweight. Well, obese. But she's still a capable soldier who can speak several languages, besides having hostage negotiation training. I did find this a stretch, as a soldier should be better able to deal with weight issues. She has no money or job plans, nor much family life. When she finds her user boyfriend cheating on her, her self-esteem hits rock bottom. She takes the advice of her former senior officer and signs up for a free boot camp for weight loss in the Nevada desert... never occurs to her to ask who is paying for this. Here with other former girl soldiers, she lives a basic life, eats high protein, low carb, high veg meals, with no soft drinks, and runs and hikes all day. The weight falls off and after two months Sarah doesn't recognise herself, and gets a trip to Las Vegas as a reward. She is selected for further training in self-defence and weaponry, at which point the penny finally drops. Sarah either is not so bright as we're asked to believe, or years of US Army have indoctrinated her to not think for herself.
Sarah ends up joining Vince and his handsome, capable crew, drooling over each other's bodies and making sexist remarks, getting a crash course in Arabic and targeting a sleazy Middle Eastern playboy who uses money from smuggling to finance terrorism. Dressed in millionaire clothes, wearing transceivers in her pearl jewellery and GPS in her watch, Sarah boards the sheik's yacht and easily convinces him that she's a good-time girl. Giving the rest of us Western girls a bad name. In this man's world, AK-47s are sold by the ton and cost six dollars apiece. When he hosts a party, wealthy socialites and US senators flock to attend and give him cheques for a children's charity in Iraq - gullible people, who never dream that they are financing a terrorist training camp. Sarah can only keep the sheik's attention by sleeping with him, which she enjoys, but there is no danger of losing her heart, for she secretly has fallen for Vince. Then the sheik spontaneously whips her off to his home in Libya, and even greater peril.... I'll definitely be reading more of Lisa Dietsch, who claims a background in the material she writes.
Wow, I read these out of order because books 2 and 3 were free on Amazon UK - I liked them so much I circled around and bought the first book, a short story and the fourth book.
A solid 3.5 stars - no, you know what, I'm going to make it 4 stars - I liked it that much.
Our heroine gets booted out of the airforce for being overweight, despite several warnings. Devastated she goes to visit her boyfriend, only to find him in bed with another man - apparently he thought she knew she was his beard! The airforce hasn't paid Sarah enough to live so she is now seriously oveweight, jobless, boyfriendless and soon to be homeless. Before he kicked her out of the airforce her commanding officer gave her a business card for a fat camp which would be free to ex-military - with nothing else to lose she decides to go, at lest she won't have to worry about food or accomodation.
It turns out that the fat camp is a secret CIA training camp for Dark Ops work. 13 weeks later and 75 pounds lighter Sarah is a changed woman - at least on the outside. And she has been recruited as a honey-trap for Task Force 125.
Reading the books out of order the first book did feel a leetle over-explained (certainly when compared to the second and third) but what a great set of books. Sarah is a kick-ass heroine WHO DOESN'T CHANGE. Yep, you heard it, she starts off a foul-mouthed, argumentative, hard-smoking woman and she stays that way.
Throughout the book Sarah holds her own, she fights, she wins, she picks up men and drops them with no hard feelings, she stands no nonsense from anyone. And she sows up a group of ex-marines, SEALs, Army Rangers etc.
I would recommend this for fans of Kate Daniels who also enjoy military romances and don't mind swearing. Ms Pietsch has gone onto my "buy anything from this author" list.
1. The path to freedom is paved with hot people. We should all feel safe and secure because they are protecting our freedom by virtue of their hotness.
2. Losing extreme amounts of weight makes you hot. It also cures you of any and all self esteem issues you may have had prior to achieving your hotness.
3. Hot people want for nothing. They don't have to engage in the social niceties that non-hot people must endure. They don't have to wait in lines or pay their own way. The world owes them things because they grace the world with their sexiness.
4. Hot people can smoke cigarettes and drink copious amounts of tequila and still maintain their hotness. They are so lucky!
5. Sleeping with a terrorist can be fun if the terrorist is hot and you haven't been laid in a while.
6. Las Vegas loves hot people! If you're hot, you can call the front desk and ask for a dress to be delivered. They will sense your hotness over the phone and deliver a Versace dress!
7. Men will give you money as long as you let them orbit within the sphere of your hotness. Let's refer to that as your Hotmosphere.
8. No amount of money on earth could entice me to read the other installments in this series.
an enjoyable read.... Sarah is at rock bottom - kicked out of a career that she is really good at because she is overweight ( which i have to admit i had a problem with but the rest of the story would not have happened if it had not happened, walking in our her long term boyfriend in bed with someone else, no place to live , no money and no self esteem. She is given the opportunity to go to a free "fat" camp and comes out a kickass hottie that is made part of a elite covert team. Even though her main role is to sex up the target she shows her metal by taking care of herself despite being surrounded by a time of hunky men that she has to keep her hands off. Heavy or thoughtful dialog and prose it does not have, but if you looking for an action packed, laugh out loud sexual heat filled fast read this is for you.
3.5 stars. At the time this book came out I'm sure it was great but now it just seems dated (chain-smoking is not attractive). I was disappointed in Sarah but as a character I'm sure she is more realistic then I want to believe. I was hoping to get a kick ass h, come to find out they only wanted her for her tits and ass. Plus the fat girl gets thin and then suddenly turns hot kick ass chick is a bit over done. I liked the characters and the idea but had a problem with the sex for intel part. I guess I'm not open minded enough to not judge the girl a little poorly no matter her other skills. As I read she grew on me and I loved the team. They have great chemistry, what she does is important and it saves lives . Overall this is my favorite in the series and re-readable.
One of my constant rereads I adore this series so much. Sarah was a badass FMC and the humor and camaraderie between her and the team was amazing. I loved that the author knew her stuff when it came to the military aspects because so often that is messed up in these books. The wit and sarcasm and good natured ribbing between the team and Sarah's journey to confidence and embracing her badassness was amazing. The slowburn in this one is real but if you love a good fight scene and some steamy flirting I highly recommend this series. This is book one in a series so it has a happily for now that continues in book two.
This was an outstanding book Love the characters and the world they live in. I have been immersed in paranormal/UF for the last couple of years, except for the yearly dose of Dana Stabenow (currently on hiatus) and the twice yearly JD Robb. I can't remember where I seen this. Either a recommendation from here or Amazon. Anyway I'm glad I bought the set. Its a fantastic change. I enjoyed the making of Sarah. I love that she still has "fat girl" issues even though she is transformed. It keeps her real. I also love the fact she is a kick ass chick with out the supernatural bent. Looking forward to book 2
I was a little skeptical about reading this, but I easily fell in love and couldn't put it down. How Sarah goes from an overweight girl to a major hottie was so inspiring! I kind of felt at one point that she was kind of a slut, but I understood that as part of her job she has to sleep around. I loved the chemistry between her and Vince! I would 100% recommend this book to anyone! I literally could not put it down. I have even started telling my friends to read it. As soon as I finished I went and bought the other 3 novels just because I NEEDED to know what was going to happen! Wonderfully done!
Though not typically my kind of heroine, I did enjoy the read. Lisa Pietsch takes an average, everyday woman and makes her work to become the woman she dreams of being. This bad-ass, kick-butt, heroine is surrounded by well-sculpted men, and she fits right in. I'd recommend this read and will definitely read more in the series!
I read the first two books in the Task Force 125 books along with the short story of Sarah's' Summer this afternoon and if you like romantic suspense with a super strong heroine and to die for hawt guys, these are the books for you, Easy reads but totally kept my interest....all afternoon. Didn't get anything else done today :)
Finally got to read this book by my friend Lisa Pietsch since I got a Kindle for Christmas. A great relaxing read as I am recovering from surgery; I would recommend for vacation/beach reading. I definitely plan to read the rest of the series!
We have a ten year USAF veteran, and she is being tossed out beecause she is too chubby. If you can't keep your weight off, you are out the door! But her CO see's something in her, anddrops her a way to rederm herself. This is an intriging story, and will keep you wanting more!
Loved the story, and especially enjoyed the ending. I did feel that the first half or so of the book could have used a lot more editing, which seemed to improve in the later chapters. All in all, it seems to be a great start to this series of novels.
Great suspense. Book got a little naughty in places. It's a different perspective terrorist covert ops book. It's a female version of Mitch Rapp. Some of the things she does are beyond me. I could never do what she did.
This was a great book. I really wanted to give it 4 1/2 stars. It was fast paced and a different story than the usual fat girl to hot vixen that I have read before. Sarah is overweight but through exercise and diet becomes a fighting machine for our country. Great read.
I liked the story, and I wanted to learn more about what made these characters tick. I thought it was an interesting side note that they took overweight military girls with really great potential to be in these covert groups. I can't wait to read more of the story between Sarah and Vince.
Still reading the set up portion of the novel but so far it's been a fun read. I promised Lisa I'd let her know what I thought so I'll get back to the rest of you at the same time.
