Another of my RITA finalist reads, and another totally deserving of the nomination/final.
This opens on the aftermath of a quickie Vegas wedding--times two. The heroine and her roomie, both librarians in town for a conference, married a pair of California firefighters (also at a conference), then passed out in their hotel room while "grabbing stuff" before meeting up with their new husbands for the honeymoon. They both chicken out and run before meeting them on the morning after.
The heroine knew the hero, her secret husband, before meeting him again in Las Vegas. They were summer sweethearts for 5 or 6 years running, meeting every year in camp. But they haven't seen each other since then, and there were some big changes in both their lives--more his than hers. In hers, mother recently died, after her dad died several years before, and she's moved to the hero's home town to get a fresh start. Before they met. His parents both died, he's just finished raising his 5 younger siblings, and wants to finally enjoy his freedom. Which should not include being married before he has the chance to play. But before they can untie the knot...stuff happens.
It's a good story with some good conflict, great characters, and some steamy love scenes, which fit with the story very nicely. Definitely a Rita worthy read.

Shy librarian Emily Garner needs to live a little and takes a massive plunge when she attends a librarian conference in Las Vegas, meets up with childhood crush Will Dailey, gets drunk and then finds herself married to the aforementioned guy! Unlike Brittany Spears who managed to get an annulment within 48 hours, our couple here decide to play a wait and see game especially since Emily ends up living in the same town as Will and she is "torn" about whether or not she wants the annulment. After all, it's not everyday a librarian can say she is married to a sexy fireman!
A quick fluffy read with the usual romantic elements that can be expected in this type of novel--meddlesome siblings, the ever-present flu that prompts one of them to take care of the the other for a weekend and forces them to realize that he/she likes the responsibility, and the usual misunderstanding about one's intentions (e.g. is he or is he not a player?). Recommend you read this while sitting outside and drinking a nice tall glass of cold ice tea.

Bueno, bueno, ¿quién iba a decirlo? En realidad me gustó este libro. No me encantó y no estoy enamorada de nada, pero me gustó mucho. El protagonista masculino... me cayó bien. Yo también estoy en shock gente, pensé que eso no iba a pasar con este tipo de historias nunca. Entiendo muy bien sus razones, la necesidad que tiene ahora mismo de crear espacio entre su familia a la que tuvo que criar desde muy joven cuando sus padres murieron y que ahora todos son adultos y él quiere vivir un poco. Tiene sentido, no está siendo muy dramático al respecto y en realidad es un buen hombre. No es mi tipo, pero me cae muuuy bien. Lo mismo con la protagonista, me agrada. No es tonta, tampoco se deja manejar al antojo del protagonista y de hecho me he creído por completo su relación. Además, me gustó mucho la importancia que tuvo la familia en la historia, porque ya sabemos que eso es de mis cosas favoritas en los libros. Y él en ningún momento la llamó estúpida, la engañó o le prohibió hacer algo, ¡bien! Vamos mejorando.
