Award-winning comedian Sarah Millican plays Sarah, life counsellor and modern-day agony aunt in the collected first two series of this BBC Radio 4 comedy.
Solving the nation's problems with her support group, she wants you to live life to the utmost, and she's got tons of ideas of how to help. In the same way as the busybody at the end of your street who knows everything, and supported by her team of experts (local cabbie Terry and self-qualified counsellor Marion), Sarah dishes out advice whether you want to hear it or not and tackles the nation's problems head-on, dishing out real advice for real people.
Having been a fan of Sarah Millican's for a number of years now, when I wanted something funny to read I just went looking for one of her books, only to stumble upon this instead - I wasn't disappointed. A series of skits with some very genuine feeling "crowd" interactions, I laughed constantly and was so pleased to her her familiar "pet" and "flower" and "fella" endearments sprinkled throughout.
( Format : Audiobook ) "Have you considered counselling?"
I really love Sarah Millican's standup: she's warm, funny and great with audience participation. And in this radio series, the parts in which she does speak directly to her audience are great. Unfortunately, the remainder of the (presumably) pre-scripted show, in which two 'experts' are asked to offer suggestions to improve the lives of 'guests with problems' is repetitious, unsubtle, often crude and not up to Sarah's stand alone high standard. If you are a fan, don't bother.
Usually love Sarah Millican, but most of this just wasn’t funny. Perhaps it’s because I don’t get s lot of British humor. None of the other parts were good, but even hers was not very good.
