Lots of terms used in a sentence - funny -but also very informative. Not sure there are many books like this still around; some of the terms and turns of phrase could be offensive to some people. I think language tells us so much about a given culture; it is one of the ways groups define what (often) is very close to their core beliefs.

Being from the South, I find this book utterly hilarious. I was born in Memphis, TN and raised in northern Mississippi. I don't remember where I picked this book up from, but I do remember my best friend and myself flipping through it and laughing our heads off. While intentionally over the top, it is amazingly accurate in many respects. I still flip through it every once in a while when I'm looking for a good chuckle.

This is an odd book. It's basically a dictionary with phonetic spellings of commonly used words and phrases. I mean, really, they're Yankees, not Martians. Are they really so alien that they need simple stuff like "haint" and "awl" explained to them? Whatever, if it gets them to learn how to talk right, talk slower, and not so loud, I guess it's worth it. If they're going to insist on coming down here the least they can do is learn to speak proper English so as someone can understand them.

Good stuff. Real short, I am not a Southerner by any means but I enjoyed it. My favorite word- Yankee Shot- "a Southern child's navel. 'Momma what's this on my belly?' 'That's where the Yankee shot you. That's yo Yankee shot.'

An amusing, silly book.
Some of the things in the book, my older NORTHERN relatives used to say.
Some of the things, I never heard any of my SOUTHERN relatives say.

But amusing and spot on with some of the stuff.

This book is hilarious! I loved it! I have Southern kin, and they would love this book, too. I highly recommend it for all Yankees and others baffled by the South and Southerners. Written. Y a Southerner, it's a great book!

A funny little book, which should provide most with entertainment. I enjoyed it, even if I am a damn Yankee.

Good reference material and small enough to keep in the back of my purse if I have to communicate with a Southerner.

I saw this book in a southern tourist shop and it looked too good not to add to the "to read" list.

I laughed until I cried. I’ve heard quite a few of these phrases, but some of them had me wondering what I was reading.

I feel bad giving such a light and fluffy book a poor rating. The illustrations were cute, but the book was $7.00 and was about 60 pages long. I know stupid me, except that I bought it used at a thrift store for .25 cents and it was still overpriced. I am certain that there will be a personality type that enjoyed this effort since it has two more sequels, but I think that I will miss them.
