So we now reach the Age of Apocalypse / House of M stage of this ternate reality story where this warped reality has existed for six years - there's now a a mutant utopia called Planet X; but all this time Wasp, Havoc and Beast have refused to stop working at ways to go back in time and get back their reality! The first comic book issue in this volume is interesting as it sets out the warped reality, but then it goes too fast to finish in the requisite following five comic book issues hat complete this volume. This is one of those few times when I think this should have gone bigger as an event with crossovers so the reader could really get to know Planet X. 7 out of 12 thoughtful Three Star read :)

This arc was really cool. Felt like a big Marvel story told in an ongoing title and not in an event book. Lots of plot threads come to a head here, there's lots of characters in the game and there's some timeline jumping/universe altering stuff going on. It felt a little more easier to follow than what Hickman is doing though. And it was pretty fun.

I think my main problem with Remenders Uncanny Avengers, and this might just be me, is that it's supposed to be an X-men/Avengers unity book, but it still feels more like an Avengers title? Havok is the main character of the book, and Rogue and Scarlet Witch are also quite prominent. But then Thor, Iron Man and Captain America will turn up and it's like "I'm just reading an Avengers book with some X-men characters, aren't i?" But, to be fair, nearly every marvel character is an Avenger at this point anyway.

I also liked how it has a consistent artist for the whole arc, unlike some of the previous volumes. I do like Acunas art. Remender is just sometimes a little too wordy.

The conclusion to an epic two years in the making — and rest assured, nothing will ever be the same again!

I'm just going to share some of a twitter discussion I had with a friend as I ranted about the stupidity of this book, because I don't want to think about it anymore. (I only caught up because my friend Leshia said Banshee shows up and my love for the Cassidy family is strong and true.)

Chantaal: I knew it would all be fixed with time travel but a LOT of the character choices are just fucking WEIRD

Chantaal: And way to have two characters fall in ~true love~ off screen and contrive a way to keep their relationship in canon.

Chantaal: I'm choosing to believe Uncanny Avengers is just all an AU. It's the only way I can even deal with any of it.

Leshia: it's been going for well over a year and I don't think a single thing in it has been referenced elsewhere, it might as well be

Chantaal: It's also weird to see Remender try to work the long con the way Hickman does and try to have it come together in ONE ISSUE.

Leshia: SERIOUSLY. He tries to hard to go for these big epic stories and it just falls on its face.

And now I have to suffer through the whole AXIS event soon because of what's been going on in this book? Ugh.

Nothing short of incredible!!

Maaaan!! Where to begin?

Once again, Daniel Acuña’s art is incredible.

This is such a colossal climax. If it was marketed differently with more tie-ins, it would be considered an earth shattering superevent along the lines of Secret Wars... but to be honest, it was better this way. It was still epic as fuck, and a bunch of tie ins wouldn’t have benefited the story. I’m simply speaking to the magnitude and depth of writing when I say that.

Uncanny Avengers is a phenomenal title. I was audibly exclaiming as I read. I really cannot wait to see where it goes from here!

Ah, now here's a nice, dark, tense battle for humanity's past eh? Earth wiped out by a Celestial, mutants raptures out to a paradise planet, and only Rick Remender and Daniel Acuña to save us all? Sounds plausible.

Another wild Remender ride, wilding along paths where the heroes are shades of grey, the humour is black, the battles are moral as much as physical.

Some major transformations here - lotsa spoilers for the unwary:

Is it fun? Hell yeah. Does it feel Important? Sorta. Does it feature future/alternative timeline heroes and villains? Why, how could it be a Marvel story these days without?

Holy fucking shit, what a epic storyline.

Rick Remender easily gave one of his best stories here. With the fall of everything from the last volume we only have mostly mutants alive and they must make a choice. Be happy and live in a world with only Mutants, or go back and fix things. Rick gets most characters and their motives and this volume is one big explosive emotional conclusion to a epic storyline.

I just loved it. I can't get over to how good this was. First volume of this series is good but the last 3 have been epic. With the characters all having their moments in this volume, plenty of emotional bits, and great art, this is one of my favorite storylines involving Avengers. A 4.5 out of 5.

Earth was destroyed in the last volume. Here we are 5 or 6 years later and all the mutants are living on Planet X with Wasp. Her and Havoc have a daughter. They are still trying to find a way to go back in time and save the earth. Kang shows up with his crew saying he has a plan to get this done. They reluctantly join forces. The job gets done but Kang double crosses them because of course he does. But Immortus shows up with his crew and they are able to fight Kang and his forces back. I’m still enjoying Remender’s run and Acuña has this book looking great! Bring on vol 5!!

After the huge events of Volume 3, Remender keeps the crazy coming with things like a mutant-filled planet called Planet X, some time travelling baddies set to help our heroes jump back to the past (which is our time) to stop the Earth from getting all blowed up by murdering a Celestial being, and the Avengers and X-Men coming together to kick major ass as the future mutants of Planet X face off on opposite sides! As you do!

This was so much fun. Twists, turns, strong character work, and some blow-the-roof-off wackiness seal the deal on a series which is just getting better. The more I read, the more I'm digging Remender's style. And Acuna's art? Rock solid.

To me, this volume pays off my investment in the series to date. A ripper of a read!

Really good. But also kinda all over the place. I think there can be such a thing as too many twists and turns and wheels within wheels within wheels. But this is a book I consistently look forward to.

I'm still a big fan of what Remender has built over 10+ volumes now, but this wasn't as strong as I had hoped. After the third volume used every page to build and accelerate the story, this is a different, almost opposite, approach. It's starting with a more severe status quo, then uses the plot to work backwards into where we were in volume three. It's also very reliant on outside forces. Sure, believable forces that make sense in the Marvel Universe, but it's always disappointing, for me at least, to think, "Damn, that was close. The good guys totally would've lost if not for ______." It happens a lot in other books, too, but this used it in such pivotal moments that it was more glaring.

Honestly, this is only getting this high of a rating because of its place in this series of events. This is a large chunk of the payoff from the last few years, but if you tried reading it on its own, it would probably seem like incomprehensible garbage. But that's why it's volume 4, not volume 1. The characters are, if anything, weaker and less relatable than previously written. Partially, I think, because the focus was so much on the action, and also because there was a big time jump which forces you to assume a certain amount of change and adaptation in the characters. It's harder to deal with that when you don't actually see it.

That is compounded by the fact that I really like Acuña's work on this. It's dark and murky, and at times was almost too much, but it always pulled through. This was also one of the first books that I really noticed some of the lettering for the sound effects and how cool it looked.

Overall, this was a solid entry in a great series, but it sacrificed character and heart for plot. Which seemed like a necessary evil, but it made the book less impactful. Anyway, you should be a fan of this series and it's just onward and upward to Axis next!

Uncanny Avengers volume 4: Avenge the Earth. A continuation of my reread.

Out of all the Marvel NOW! Avengers titles I have read so far, this is proving to be the strongest. It’s managing to tell its own story without getting too bogged down by the wider Marvel comics universe. Impressive considering it is an Avengers title.

After the previous volume the Avengers have lost, Earth has been destroyed by the Celestial Exitar. The Apocalypse Twins won and have their own mutant utopia. However not all the Avengers were wiped out in the previous volume. As you can see from the cover Thor survived and has joined a very interesting ensemble of characters, led by Kang the Conqueror and including variants of characters from different point in their timeline: Iron Man, Doctor Doom and Spider-Man just to name a few. I hope we get to see more of these characters in other Marvel projects.

As Kang is now fully involved this turns into an epic wibbly wobbly timey wimey storyline which feels a bit Days of Future Past. Will our characters be able to undo the destruction and can they trust Kang?

We get epic action and artwork throughout this volume. The volumes so far have paved the way to this epic moment. It feels like an epic crossover event. The story is also contained and dealt with in this volume. No need to hint down spin offs. What I’m not sure of is what this means for the next volume as this would have been a great end point for this series.

Overall a fantastic time travel adventure where we get to see our heroes and other unexpected characters battle the odds. Uncanny at the moment is my favourite Avengers title. Let’s see what volume 5 brings.

Avenge the Earth (#18-22). A fun and exciting ending to an innovative storyline. We all knew the big reset had to happen, but nonetheless Remender doesn't totally erase the repercussions, leaving a few lasting changes to his cast. Meanwhile, the plotline itself is tons of fun, with a great reveal of the master villain, and deep delving into Marvel continuity (although many of the future characters are largely wasted). I'm looking forward to reading what comes next, out of this.

Multi-verse, alternate universe, alternate time-line, time-travel.....this seems to be what most hero comics have devolved into (maybe because I read too many Hickman books). But this one just felt played out to me. I was totally on board with this series until this trade, everything changes and nothing changes. Not sure where it is going with the next trade about Axis but it looks like more of the same.

After the bore that was the last two volumes. Rick reminder brings the quality up to the standards of the first one. Plots come to a head things start to make sense an some pretty amazing story twists happen at such a fast rate you'll swear your is head spinning. The art work is top notch an I must say this was an incredible read.

The first volume of Uncanny Avengers wasn't great but it showed a lot of potential. I was curious as to how he would use the post-Avengers vs. X-Men Marvel universe to tell the story of mutants and humans working together to rescue Earth-616 from bigotry. I was curious how Captain America and Havoc would co-exist in their new roles in an Avengers team. While it was clear Remender had absolutely no idea how to write Rogue (seriously, had he ever a read a book with her in it? if so, I don't think he understood it/them), I thought maybe his take on her relationship with The Scarlet Witch would get interesting. It didn't. Instead, Remender threw the interesting points of the story into the background so he could answer the age old X-question: "What if a very talented writer was given the chance to write an apocalyptic (ugh, puns) alternate timeline sort of story where he's allowed to everything he wants...and he deliberately chose to make it absolutely suck?"

It baffles me. His Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender Omnibus had a similar concept (too similar, actually) with an Apocalypse, an Apocalypse, some deaths, and some characters acting slightly out of the norm. But Uncanny X-Force was fun and showed that Remender understood Wolverine, Daken, Angel, Fantomex, Psylocke, and Deadpool in really fundamental ways. This series feels like it was written by an entirely different creator. An inferior creator.

As expected, all the major deaths in the last volume, and all the important plot points were completely undone in this volume. One of the main villains in this book is an undoing of the major death at the end of his Uncanny X-Force run. I'm not letting his cheap writing here undo the good feelings I had towards his previous story. Like every other creator who worked at Marvel after this, I'm just going to pretend this book not only isn't canon but that it doesn't exist.

If I do an Avengers read in the future, I'm just skipping this whole series. Because, not too long after this, Marvel once again posed the question, "What if a very talented writer was given the chance to write an apocalyptic (ugh, puns) alternate timeline sort of story where he's allowed to everything he wants..." but this time the talented writer in question was Jonathan Hickman. And while Hickman's Avengers by Jonathan Hickman Omnibus, Vol. 1 was far from perfect, it is light years more enjoyable than this dreck.

If you read and enjoyed this series, I am happy for you. Personally, this borders on the most disappointed I've been reading a talented Marvel writer just absolutely fail to tell an interesting story when given a wide swath of creative freedom.

Big finale! So we come to our weird dystopian future that is somehow a new utopia for mutant kind at the cost of multiple versions of Earth. The surviving members of the unity squad are still trying to challenge the status quo and destroy the tachyon dam and finally get Immortus and his forces to finally set things right. But as alluded to in the previous volume, Kang had gathered a number of characters of interest from various timelines as things collapsed into a single event and now they've somehow become the only hope for the original timeline.

We don't get to learn a lot about this future with its Planet X instead of Earth as the greater focus was Havoc and the crew trying to take the dam down. This effort in itself and the full plan for restoring the timeline was very much in Remender's wheelhouse and his skill with espionage and heist-style stories. The plan was pretty ambitious (or over the top) and the (expected?) twist was still pretty good. It gets bonkers to the point of you just going with the flow and enjoying things for what they are.

Great book though and a nice evolution of a Kang story.

Serinin bir önceki cildinde kıyamet kopmuştu denebilir. Son ciltten bu yana yıllar geçmiş. Dünyada son insan Wasp kalmış, X-Men ve Brotherhood artık birlik olmuş.

The conclusion to the Kang saga. Earth is destroyed, the mutants have been on Planet X for years. Even if Havok can break the dam that keeps Kang or Immortus from time travelling, they still have to go back and stop a Celestial. A lot of guest stars in this one, many of whom aren't referred to by name, so hopefully you know your Marvel characters. A lot of what happens is the type of unexplained nonsense I associate with Brian Bendis rather than the pseudo-science logic I expect from good comics writing. Like why do Havok's blasts seem to be different power levels at different times, despite him saying he's giving it all he's got every time? For all the epicness of the plot, details felt a bit glossed-over.

This Uncanny Avengers story (from Volume 1 to 4) is really good.

It feels a good bit like the Avengers Endgame story in that there is a universal enemy trying to destroy the Earth as we know it and the Avengers (this time paired up with X-Men) need to go back in time and have one shot at setting things right.

It's especially interesting as it dives into multi-verses and Celestials who are in charge of timelines and reminds me of the show, Loki.

This last one did a good job of bringing it together and closing but it felt a little rushed compared to the others in this series.

I really enjoyed it and big thanks to the library for having these in stock. It was definitely worth the read

Continuing the great x-read of 2017/18...

This was surprisingly decent considering what a mess this storyline has been up to this point.

That isn't to say that it is without its problems - even big ones. But the story comes together in a bombastic comic book smash-up plot that moves at a brisk pace and makes for a much more entertaining ride than the last couple of volumes.

So far, this is probably my least favorite series of this era of the x-books (possibly because it feels more like an Avengers book than an X-book to me...). I'm curious how many of the big consequences that came out of this story will last and be picked up on by other writers...

A great end to a good run. I ended up really enjoying this series – even if I was duped into reading it. While it didn’t set up the rise of The Red Onslaught like I thought it would, it did (mostly) fill in the “why do I care about Havoc” gap for me. It brought a satisfying end to what was a rather abrupt start to the series.

I wish they’d restructure the volumes of this run. Vol 1 is really an epilogue for AVX (what I was expecting this whole run to be) but Vols 2-4 are a separate saga entirely.
