This book gives a fascinating peek into life on a kibbutz. Written from the perspective of a 4th grader, it lets you in on their squabbles and loyalty to each other as they face the adjustments (upheaval) of welcoming a young cousin traumatized by WWII into their class.

Towards the end of the book war breaks out and the children are eventually evacuated from their kibbutz.
