This pair was absolutely crazy-making to me. I loved Trent and Lauren, but some of the hair-trigger reactions taking them back to bad places in previous relationships made this a rough read at times. this book was a bit of an emotional roller-coaster; zinging from sweetly silly moments to dark and painful ones before zooming back to hopeful once again. I understand it’s an adage in Hollywood never to work with children or animals, and in this book it’s definitely Porter and the K9 corps who are the stars of this show.

Trent lost his wife four years ago and has been raising his son alone since. He moved to Hawthorne Harbor to be closer to his family so he would have help with his son. He really hasn't dated anyone since and now he has been on many bad first dates and has all but given up on dating. Then he meets Lauren by chance. She is the owner of a construction company that he hires to build his deck. She doesn't think she likes or wants kids but as she gets to know Trent's son she finds herself falling for him and Trent. When Trent is working and Lauren is babysitting, his son has an accident and Lauren takes him to the hospital and takes care of him till Trent can get there. Trent blames Lauren for the accident when he knows it wasn't her fault but he just feels guilty that he wasn't there. Will they be able to work things out? Will Lauren get over her feelings of not liking and not wanting kids. Will Trent be able to see Lauren as a mother to his son?

THE SECOND TIME AROUND

Lauren & Trent have had poignant times with their hearts in the past. Trent now widowed, made himself go onwards as he needed to be there for his young son Porter, when Savannah his wife & Porter's mommy was tragically killed in a hit and run car accident. Lauren had closed herself off to ever believing she could let herself trust a man again, because of her recent heartache over a man that would have stifled the independence she had acheived in her professional life as an architect of envisioning what her potential customer desired for their house.

However, nothing had been the same , until Lauren came into their life when she took the job of creating a deck on the back of their house.

Many concerns are encountered on whether or not they have found a lasting love.

Through these many obstacles they keep facing, Elana keeps you wondering whether or not they want to go onwards with what their hearts are telling them to do.

To see what happens, you'll need to read The Day He Let Go, to see if Trent really does Let Go.

Trent and having a sister fix up dates for him. He had to get out of his comfort zone. Deciding to get a quote for a deck on his home, his son and the K9 dogs would enjoy. The woman who came Lauren was the prettiest woman he had seen. She has the job, loves his dogs, but not into kids.
She had asked him for a date, a few years ago. Could there be a date and a chance for them. Now she has to address the issue of why no kids. Porter is six, and will add a lot to their lives and the holidays.Another heartwarming story to enjoy. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Trent and his son Porter thought that they were finally living after the accident took his wife and Porter's mother too soon. Trent worked as a policeman but not loving it. He preferred working with the K9 dogs and taking care of Porter. When Trent saw Lauren for the first time, he was stunned by his feelings. It took some serious interreflection to make him see what direction his life really didn't to go. Lauren had to get past her bad past relationship to accept Trent as someone she wanted to be with, even being unsure if she would be a good mother! Oh happy day!!

Although some of their off-the-cuff reactions seemed to come from nowhere to the other character, we readers knew enough of their background to have and understanding for what prompted those reactions. They both had things to unlearn from their previous relationships. Luckily they were both understanding and forgiving... eventually.

This is another wonderful story of second chances. A K-9 officer with a little boy, a woman with a construction business and sparks flying. Both have insecurities, fears and needs. It’s a dance through the difficulties of a new relationship, learning about each other and trusting each other. I really enjoyed it! (I received a review copy of this book from the author. Great story

A great, clean story of 2 people getting a second chance @ happiness.
She had been engaged to an abuser. She'd gotten away & was still trying to heal & her promise to be true to herself.
He & his son lived a quiet life near family so that they could help with child care. Porter thrilled to do construction with Lauren.

A Complete Heart

Anyone that has gotten married has felt these feelings. Complications arise when past feeling and emotions collide, fighting for the proper place in your mind . Elana Johnson has done a magnificent job of walking us through these emotions, and plucking the strings of our heart. Five stars.

Lauren and Trent both have heartbreak that affects their relationship. Loved how Porter was able to help them both. A really sweet romance with some angst - to be honest a couple of times I didn't care for Trent. A really romantic ending.

Trent is dating again after losing his wife four years ago. Lauren wants a second chance with Trent, but she doesn't feel ready to be a mother. New relationships are hard, and bringing old baggage makes them harder. A great read. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Excellent Book

I enjoyed reading this book very much. Seeing how Trent had to deal with putting his loss of his wife in the past was very interesting. I wish depending on Jesus Christ as his help would have been mentioned .

Trent and Lauren's story is filled with emotion. Trent has a six year old son. After his wife's death, he didn't think he could ever love anyone the way he had his wife. When he met Lauren Michaels, the chemistry was great but there were lots of obstacles to overcome.

A nice plot, but what really makes this story is the characters. They have good depth and their past experiences guide their current actions. Very good read.
