Rate this book
Imagine for a minute you’re a songwriter and your ex-husband is a famous record label owner/producer. Now imagine that after your highly televised divorce you end up with one of your husband’s mansions and expensive cars, you think he has moved on.

But no, your ex-husband breaks into your house one night wearing a mask; he tries to strangle you. The next thing you know you wake up in the trunk of his car with a murdered police officer’s body laying on top of you. What would you do?

Well, you would probably do exactly what Scarlett Nacke does at first is panic. Then you’d realize that if you couldn’t figure out a way to get out of the trunk soon, you’d end up like the murdered cop, dead.

The book is about an ex husband seeking revenge on his ex wife for divorcing him. I am ambivalent about it. I went through a soon to be ex husband threatening me, and my children, with a loaded gun over the filing for divorce. It really does happen. The story, I felt, was possibly made with good intentions. As such, it brings to the table a scenario that happens too often. However, the raw emotion was missing. Trust me. The terror you feel is paralyzing. When you’re sitting in a chair with a six month old in your arms and a ten year old holding her three year old sister in hers, you are absolutely aware of everything you can’t do. You are absolutely aware the man in front of you, with the gun, has taken away any physical chance you may have had. You don’t argue. You lie. You lie worthy of an Oscar but you don’t pick a fight. You know with all your heart, you pick a fight and those children are either going to die in front of you or they are going to watch you die. You don’t bring up things he did wrong. You don’t bring why you want the divorce. Their only chance is on you convincing him that the divorce is something you regret, (not a lie, as, in that moment, you are regretting with everything in you), you are lying about getting back together, lying about how much he is wanted at home and how you just didn’t know how to stop it. You lie with your heart pounding so hard you are certain you will die, once the children are safe, from a heart attack. There was no raw fear. It was like it was just another argument. The only time I felt her fear was when she was in the trunk.
I don’t know the author’s experience with domestic violence. It didn’t feel to me as if he had any knowledge outside of bad movies. He made a big point of her nudity under her robe and her breast spilling out. I felt like that was there to titillate and it really bothered me. Domestic violence is a real problem. The victim may be female or male. They deserve to be treated with dignity. Most likely, in the abuse situation, they weren’t. I know I wasn’t. I can’t even begin to write out that horror. It stays with you. The memories can bring you down at any time. You can be fine and then a crying mess in a moment. I’m hoping the author wrote this to bring attention to the issue. If he did, even though it was poorly written, it earns the actual 2 1/2 stars, (I round up as I can’t actually give a 1/2). But I’m left feeling as if what I, and thousands of others, experienced was just for entertainment purposes. And that’s why I can’t give it more stars.

This book was not worth the little time I spent reading it. Numerous errors, such as misspelled words, lack of punctuation, and wrong words used, spoiled what little enjoyment it provided. There was a distinct lack of character development and virtually no plot. I don’t recommend this trash to anyone.

Good premise, bad editing

I'm really sorry for This star rating because previous books I've read by this author have been truly great. The premise of This book was a good one but I have to question whether this book saw a proofreader or editor.

The premise sounds good. Shame it can't follow through. The story doesn't have a good flow. Too many words used than needed, the speech is so unnatural and the narration needs a few editors and copy writers to sort it out. Not only that, but it took too long to get to the point. The initial story as advertised.

I downloaded this book as a Kindle freebie. Worth every penny. Seriously, I've never written a book so I don't know how hard it is; I have no desire to try. But it would seem to me that those who do write probably read a lot. I didn't get that impression of the author from this book. Aside from the massively distracting punctuation errors (comma much?) and run-on sentences, can we at least get the names right? Is it Scarlett or Scarlet? Is it a Golden Retriever or a yellow lab? Such silly mistakes. Obviously having a professional edit done was out of reach for this author. I found the dialog between Eric and Devon just plain silly.

I shouldn't have high hopes for free downloads and even with those, I typically read reviews first. Not sure what convinced me to download this one but after finishing, I quickly chose "Permanently delete."

Her husband didn’t like it because she divorced him, and swore he would get even with her and would kill her. He not only was a big music manager who owned his company, but a dangerous man who seduced young women trying to make it in the business. He finally got her and killed a cop in the meantime, and he admitted to killing several others before to the young man who was helping him kidnap and kill his x wife, but thankfully she had help come before he could kill her.

Lousy > 3. Misspellings, incomplete sentences. Lack of coherent thoughts. I’ve read better Archie comic books that at least had better dialogue. Waste your time with something else!

Get a better sideline. This had to be a joke or response to a bet. I have better dreams than this lousy novel.

Dreadful

Don't bother with this one. The writing and story line is predictable and very amateurish. A bit of sexual language thrown in for good measure . I couldn't see it going anywhere. I couldn't even give it one star.

I didn't like this book at all, and I'm sorry to say I wouldn't read any more of this writer's stories. It was poorly written in my opinion and I was surprised to see there are more books out there by this author.

Strange

I just found this really hard to get into. It was more like a play than a book took me a couple of hours to read. Id like to read more of the author's books to see if they 're any different.

Gosh, Another great book by John Meany. I enjoyed this one as much as the first one I read. If you give it a try, you'll love it also. Excellent writing and plot is very good. Cast of characters are believable and a little different. Come on and give John Meany a try, you won't be sorry.

Not that entertaining.

I found it very hard at times to keep reading. There really wasn't a lot of juicy suspense that the book had potential for.

I enjoyed this one..
The story was great, it kept me involved and invested until the very end.
A lot of punctuation and spelling errors, the editing was terrible, but the story itself was a good one.

No Real Thrill

The book was a tired re-run of a storyline. Don't waste the time, since there is nothing new. I always hope for 1 or 2 surprises in a story.

Sounds much better than it is. Lots of spelling errors, wrong words used, formatting problems. No character was developed beyond what was absolutely necessary. Not good.

Seriously weak. Appalling grammar and punctuation. I started highlighting errors at one point, but they were so plentiful, I gave up. In dire need of a proofreader. 1 and a half stars at most.

Page turner!!!!

This was a fairly fast paced thriller rather than a who done it.
I found it easy to read and wanted to know the ending.

Good story line but it should have been proofed before going out to the public. Too man errors that it broke the flow of the story. I will note the name of Author to prevent from reading another of his books I would not recommend this book without it being corrected.

Good story line but with so many typos & grammar errors it broke the flow of the. Would not recommend before corrections are made.

Entertaining listening

Due to eye issues Alexa reads to me, a thriller mystery novella with interesting will developed characters. The story line is very complicated, fast moving, and violent racing to the unexpected conclusion. I would recommend this novella to readers of mysteries. Enjoy reading 🔰2021😁🐕

Good plot let down by the execution

Punchy, swift, down to the point interesting short book. Unfortunately it is riddled with grammar and spelling mistakes, sometimes at key points, which makes it a disappointment and hard to read.

Boring!!!

This was the worst waste of my time I have ever read. I practically skipped through half of this crap and it was still a waste. Crap. Don't buy even if it's free.
