She wasn’t supposed to be his Fated Mate. She is the human destined to destroy his world. He is the Fae king sent to kill her. He wasn’t supposed to fall in love with her. She wasn’t supposed to be his Fated Mate.
Everyone’s twenty-first birthday is supposed to be something to remember. A milestone, a step into real adulthood. My birthday was when everything changed. That’s the day the men showed up. Everywhere I went, they watched me, creeping closer, trying to find a second when I was alone. They all wanted the same thing; to capture me and bring me back to their world.
One was different. Dark, mysterious, and sexy, he stood out from the rest. He had come for my blood.
King of the Fae is the first novella in the Blood Court series, which features a paranormal romance between one human girl and one strong, protective fae king. Each book also has a full arc and then a cliffhanger ending, with each novella building on the other to complete a full series arc.
When I'm about a quarter of the way through and finding myself starting to skim read and spacing out from the page, it's just not my cup of tea. It's a short book, but still a DNF for me :/
I had high hopes for this book and series...sadly I was disappointed! I was expecting a lot of Fae lore, magic and magical creatures. Instead I got a lot of hand to hand fighting. I realize this is a series, but did the first book really have to be nothing but fighting and running ?
The beginning you learn what's already told in the synopsis, not much more detail. And you also meet her best friend Harley and quickly learn about their history together. The H is introduced and then the entire story is about them running from and fighting other Fae who have come to kidnap her. It's not even fighting with magic, just regular hand to hand....punch, kick, bang heads, run....repeat. There you have the entire book. Often they're fighting the same Fae they just fought and fled from...REALLY? And it's not because Fae are immortal...the H killed one by banging his head on the floor enough times to break his skull. Not very Fae like. In fact, if you hadn't been told in the synopsis that the H was Fae, you'd think they were just all human the way this plays out!
It's not until the very end that any magic is finally used. And when the H uses it to kill the bad Fae trying to kidnap the h, you think 'Yeah, they can finally go to the land of the Sidhe and the story can move on.'. Wrong, as soon as they go through the portal they get attacked again by evil Fae creatures who apparently are cannibals and want to eat them. And that's how book 1 ends.... Fighting and fleeing....again!
I am so disappointed. And I just discovered that since I bought the first 3 (which I thought was the entire series at the time) on a special deal, 2 additional books have been published in this series. Since the Fae are supposed to be at war, I think there's only going to be more of them same. Wish I had read good reads reviews before I wasted my money on first three. Won't be reading any more of these.
Faeries; check. Magic: check. Hot King: check, check.
Really enjoyed this faery tale of the King of the Fae getting entangled with a mortal girl when he sets out to save his world from an evil Queen. Lots of magic ensues as he finds his target is actually his mate.
The story is rather predictable; I can’t say I was surprised by any of the developments. The writing was good, if not inspired, and the action was fast paced and well plotted.
I would recommend this to anyone who craves a bit of magic in their life.
I love books with fae and I loved the premise set forth before reading but I finished this book last night and when I did, all I could think was, That’s it? They basically ran around from danger the whole time. No plot other than having to get this mysterious girl to the fae land. Period. She has no clue who any of these fae are, much less ever hearing about that land, yet she somehow is critical to that lands future.
I wasn't really expecting a lot from this. I picked it up as a one sitting read in between some heavier stuff.
Despite my low expectations, I was still sorely disappointed.
It's got all those typical tropes, which I was well prepared for. So if you're okay with the insta love between some otps of fated mates. The mates that are insanely hot that just looking at them makes you feel like you have some sort of intestinal problem (tingling insides, etc).
It's just that the writing was so bleh. Then there was the actual story line. They met. Their eyes seared into each other. Something spurs them into motion to flee. They actually flee. anddddd the end. on to the next book. Except not.
Kip is our main character. She works at a bookstore with Mac. The day she turns 21, her best friend Harley, drags her out to a bar, here she sees a mysterious stranger, but when she wanna tell her friend about him, he is no where to be seen. Stryder he is the King of the blood court. Stryder is destined to kill Kip because of a profesy. But Fae from the summer court is also out to get to Kip to win the war that is raging in the Land of Sidhe.
Overall I like this story, but I was a lot of the same stuff that happend in the story. It was very insta lovey between Stryder and Kip.
Oh my goodness. Stryder, Hubba Hubba. Kip has handled what just happened to her with relative sanity so mad props to her. The chemistry between them is sizzling. Harley is a great best friend, the kind everybody needs. This was wayyyyy too short. I need more!!
Started out okay but then became boring and not realistic. The main character seemed like an idiot being undecided constantly I just could not get into this book at all when I read past half of it.
I loved King of the Fae, the story started off slow at first but picked up. Which was good. I’m looking forward to reading on for Kip and Stryder story.
Stryder undeisions after was appealing. He was sent to do away with Kip at first but came to find out she was his fated mate. I love how after that he did all he could to keep her safe.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I finished this first book just to finish. But this series isn't for me. I don't really care for any of the characters. Except for maybe Roane. There's some potential with him and Harley.
King of the Fae Blood Court #1 Fantasy Ava Mason ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was an ok read. The writing was a little immature so I found myself wanting to read something else.
I never really understood why Stryder took Kip and Harley and then had to keep driving to escape the other fae. If he's King and powerful then why not just transport them back?
I did predict who Mac was pretty early on. He knew what the other Fae wanted and it would've made more sense to me if he tried to fight them or at least try to warn Kip, but he didn't do anything.
The pacing was ok but the world building could be developed some more.
this honestly was a decent idea but was just soo badly written. It felt rushed. And some of the stuff that happened was just SO ridiculous I had to put the book down.
This book is just okay. I like the characters well enough. I actually like the MMC more than the FMC because it really felt like he was the one primarily getting characterized while she stayed pretty vague and bland for most of it. The switching POVs wasn't bad, but it was hard to keep track of who was talking when they weren't characterized enough to have distinguishable voices. I think the concept is interesting and can see the future books being more interesting, but this whole book was just convincing her to come along and she never really put up much of a fight about going with (she said she did, but really she was easily persuaded every time) so it felt like this whole section of the story was unnecessary or at least took way too long. This should have been the first 25% of the book and then we move on. There was not enough genuinely good content to stretch this portion of the overarching story out into a full book by itself. I would consider reading more of the series to see if this improves as we get more involved in the actual war plotline, but the fact that FMC doesn't really put up any fight over anything and things just seem to happen to her and really she's got zero significant character development all makes me feel like it would be a waste of time to continue. It took me too long to read this because I had other things that held my attention better and at one point even forgot I was reading this. That, I think, speaks volumes.
Kip and Stryder’s introductory story is intriguing. A Fae king traveling to the Human realm to kill a young woman who is prophesized to be the downfall of the Fae realm, and his kingdom. He sets out with one purpose in mind, the protection of his people… yet, Stryder soon discovers that Kip is his mate, the one woman destined to be at his side. So. He has decisions to make. His own happiness at finding his fated mate or the destruction of all he also holds precious in his heart and soul, his people, his kingdom.
Or… he can attempt to change destiny by proving that Kip is not the one who will attempt to destroy his realm, to do that he first has to get her there which she is not all that thrilled about. Not being killed, yeah that’s a good thing – leaving everything she knows to travel with this crazy, dangerous, sexy man to the totally unknown Fae realm that’s equally crazy, but at least she’s alive.
King of the Fae presents a fascinating situation and one king’s fateful decision.
This is an introduction to the series/serial (for there are cliffhangers and a continuing story arch involved here). While I liked Stryder and Kip, their initial story isn’t filled with a lot of magic, which surprised me considering the Fae have come to another realm with a definite purpose. I would think that there would be magic throughout trying to bring Kip back to their realm. Yet there was more human type of fighting than I expected. Perhaps that will be explained later, or it simply doesn’t matter in the long run. It was still a curiosity to me considering the genre.
I’ll be frank in saying that I normally do not (knowingly) pick up cliffhangers or serials. A story arch woven throughout a series, yes, I love that… but I don’t love cliffhangers. Fortunately for me, this series/serial is now complete so I’m able to dive right into the next without a wait. King of the Fae left me at its ending with a need to know more, to know what happens next. So I will pick up the next installment, but I’m not firmly committing myself to the entire line just yet. I enjoyed myself, it’s a good story, I just may have to get past those cliffhanger endings to discover the entire story.
• I went into this book completely blind, I just knew it was a enemies to lovers, Fae Novella, spicy romance series! I was genuinely surprised how much I liked it 😂! From the beginning this story had me HOOKED. There was so much fast paced action and made it impossible to put down. The two main characters had 🔥 tension and although there wasn’t any spice, based on the series it seems like it’ll be continued in the next book and will be more of a slow burn romance. Which is fine because the story is super entertaining in the meantime! I will definitely be reading the next book since it left off of a crazy cliffhanger!
• This is about a Fae King who was sent to the human world to kill a girl who could change the fate in the war happening back in his home. What he didn’t expect was that she was his FATED MATE, obviously this complicates things for him and this follows their journey on how they will navigate their next move!
This is a warning....this book ends in a cliffhanger that I wasn't expecting. Luckily the next book is out. Kip is an orphan on two fronts. She doesn't remember who her birth parents are or what happened to them and she lost both her adopted parents to death. Her best friend Harley was in the foster system with her. She works in a book shop with an eccentric man named Mac. Stryder is a fae king who is sent to kill Kip because of a prophecy. When he meets her things change because he believes she is his mate but he has to weigh the lives of his people against the life of his mate. He has to protect her because the enemy fae want to keep her for themselves to use against him.
I have never read a book as horrible as this. 9/10 ths of it is about a stupid twit with half a brain cell constantly arguing she doesn't want to go. No matter how many times it was explained it was a life or death situation, she still kept arguing. I deleted the entire set due to the ignorant twit. Author, what were you thinking, publishing such garbage!
Nope. This wasn't for me. It's less than 200 pages and I still skimmed through which isnt a good sign 😬. If I never read a Holly Black or Sarah J. Maas book than maybe I would of been into this 🤷🏻♀️
While reading this book I felt like the same things were repeating again and again. The beginning was nice, it had a very promising start. Especially because of the backstory of why the Fae King of the Blood Court was there in the first place, and after Kip. But ever since things started to get serious it felt like the same things just kept repeating themselves and so I lost internest and took my sweet time reading this book.
Kip felt like the cliche character that we all know about. Reads a lot, is very stubborn, is a strong independent woman with a tragic past and a has a best friend who is talkative and has the very opposite personality compared to the main character. Having read so many books- fanfics included- I do not judge that many books because of the cliche character building they have, but this one had to remind us on almost every turn.
The plot was only an idea, and it was not well described and shown to us. The interactive scenes were not well made, and the book felt dry because of that.
I understand the connection between two mates- no matter what supernatural species they are- but this book did not collaborate on that fact at all. Physical attraction matters, it really does, but having a deeper emotional and spiritual connection with a person is way better. You could see the spark between Kip and Stryder, but it was a very thin line.
I am hoping to see more development in the next book because I hate being left on a (sort of) cliffhanger.
Review on King of Fae, a must read if you want to get lost in a book.
I gave 5 stars for the reason, of the fb book page I found this book on. It was for a free read and I thought why not just give a try, for normally I love to hold and turn pages of real books. I read the short review give and it peaked my interest, well after reading the 1st chapter I was very surprised by the writing of this author, it was filled with great in depth of each character, it kept you wanting to read more to see where she was going to take you. The greatest joy was this story brought in humans 1st in our realm before it gives some insight to the Fae realm. I am now going to start King of Ash the 2nd book in this series....
