A great children's book about John Hancock--who he was as a boy, his struggles with writing, moving to Boston, attending Harvard, and then finally the signer of the Declaration of Independence.

One of the books in my Childhood of Famous of Americans collection. I was amazed that throughout all my schooling I never knew anything more about this great man other than that he was President of the the Continental Congress and that he signed the Declaration of Independence with a large signature. He was a wealthy man who gave much of his fortune to finance the War of Independence. He grew up with many of the other Founding Fathers. He was elected governor of Massachusetts nine times. How did we never cover this?

John Hancock: Independent Boy is the story of young John Hancock and his struggle academically. This book also focuses on his budding relationship with also famous John Adams. This book is inspirational because Hancock succeeded despite his struggles; this could be used to help motivate students. This book also sheds a new light on John Hancock that helps students connect to him at a personal level.

I have really enjoyed reading this series with Christian. It is interesting to see the lives of many of the patriots cross when they were young. Like John Hancock and John Adams were great friends when young and it also tells about when he first met Paul Revere. Cool.
