In My Heart

Rate this book
A working mother reassures her child that even when they’re apart, they’re always in each other’s hearts. This lovely board book is perfect for moms to share with their little ones.

Though we’re not together
we’re never truly apart,
because you’re always on my mind
and you’re always in my heart.

This is what a mother tells her child as she leaves for work each day. This lovely board book perfectly captures the sentiment that many women feel about being a working mom. The lyrical text takes us through a mother’s day away, showing us that although she’s working hard, her child is always on her mind and always in her heart.

This is a great story that describes the love in a mother's heart for her child during the day when they are apart. It has beautiful illustrations that express the love even more. This is a board book that's perfect for little hands. It's a great way to express to a child that they are loved even when they are not with their parent. I very much enjoyed it.

I don't work outside the home so my kids don't really have a frame of reference for a book like this, which shows a mom thinking of her daughter as she goes about her work day, so I didn't share it with them. For me, though, the story dwells too much on the feelings of the adult and not enough on the child's experiences away from her mom. Kids are interested in what their parents do at work, but I think they prefer more concrete descriptions of job duties rather than touchy-feely musings on how much their parents love them. The best book I know on this topic is still Monday is One Day because it gives equal time to kids and parents and has a more child-friendly focus overall.

A sweet mantra for a working mom and her child. Toddlers get a glimpse of what a mom might be doing throughout the day while they are at daycare. Charming and reassuring!

IN MY HEART is a beautiful board book that celebrates the love between mother and child. Delving into the ways that a working mother feels connected to her child during the day, this lovely poem is ultimately about love and connection, even when apart. During the day, she sneaks peeks at photos of her child during meetings, knows that they will eat the same lunch, and doodles while on the phone reminiscent of her child's artwork. These connection points will resonate with mothers who likely do some of the same things in their own lives.

What I loved: The context for the book is absolutely fantastic. It celebrates a working mother and her love of her child, reminding the child that they are never truly apart because the child is always on her mind and in her heart. This lovely sentiment is conveyed throughout the book. The illustrations are lovely with plenty of bright colors and fun details that really appeal to the youngest readers. Toddlers will definitely connect with the rhyming text and gorgeous drawings. I also really love the racial diversity of the characters shown, which is also really important.

Final verdict: A gorgeous celebration of the love between working mother and child, this board book delivers a great message, beautiful illustrations, and charming rhymes that will appeal to toddlers and preschoolers and their parents alike.

Please note that I received a review copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Filled with love and warmth, this is a great book for working mothers to share with their little ones and enjoy a loving hug in the process.

Young listeners who are feeling a little insecure as they are dropped off for care, while their mother goes to work, will benefit from this book. The tale follows the day of a mother as she wakes her child up, eats breakfast, takes it to care, and then heads off to work. In rhyme, she repeats again and again all the ways she thinks of the child and remembers it while she goes about her day until they meet again in the evening.

The illustrations are cute and do a great job at displaying daily activities young readers will recognize. Even while at her job, the mother's true occupation isn't clear as the tale only hits her driving to work, eating lunch and coming home. In that sense, it doesn't answer the child's question of 'What do you do all day?' really. Still, the point of the book is to offer tons of security in the knowledge that the child is always on the mother's mind and that keeps them together. And after reading this, tons of warm, snuggly feelings arise and do show how much a child is loved.

IN MY HEART shows how strong the love of a mother is even when she and the child are apart. When mom has to work and the daughter goes to school/daycare, the mom reminds her that she is always in her heart. The different things she does and sees reminds her of her daughter in unique ways. For example, at lunch the mom thinks about how she and her daughter are eating the same meal.

The message of the story is that no matter where the daughter is, she's always in the mom's heart. I love the main quote "Though we're not together we're never truly apart because you're always on my mind and you're always in my heart." This is the perfect book for those children who are going to be starting school and are afraid to leave their parents. The bond between a mother and child isn't severed by distance and this book really shows that.

Final Verdict: This is perfect for working moms to read to their children who are afraid or unsure about being separated. This uplifting story will stick with them while they're doing their thing and you're doing yours.

Although I’m working remotely for the time being, not being able to focus on Savanna 100% of the time throughout the day makes me sad. It makes me sad thinking of when I’ll have to return to work in person. In My Heart, is the perfect book for my working moms. This book shares the moments a mom (or dad) may have while off at work away from their child. It’s a sweet reminder to your child that you’re never truly apart.

This is such a sweet board book. It is written for (and perfect for) working moms and their little ones. It tells the story of a woman and her daughter saying goodbye for the day and the child wondering if the mom will miss her. The simple ways the mom thinks about her child all day are relatable and heartfelt. The illustrations are warm and equally sweet. This book would be a great gift for working moms and their babies and toddlers.

A very sweet book in rhyming text about a mom who drops her daughter off at school and then goes to work. The daughter wonders what mama does all day, so mom explains. She goes through her day, relating everything she does to things that remind her of her daughter. The ending is a beautiful sentiment: “though we’re not together, we’re never truly apart because you’re always on my mind, and you’re always in my heart.”

This feels very current and relatable. This may help working moms identify some community in their feelings, and it may help assure a little one that mama is still very connected to them, even when they are physically in different places for part of the day. "Though we're not together, we're never truly apart because you're always on my mind and you're always in my heart." Illustrations are light and airy.

Sweet and wonderful easy reading book with rhyming text. Makes for a great bedtime story. Perfect as a read along for beginning readers. A mommy-daughter story, but really everyone can relate to the story. The soft, colorful illustrations perfectly compliment the words and tenderly convey the heartfelt message of this book. A joy.

Such a cute book. As a mom, I related to this book. I like how it shows kids that even when Mommy is away, she is still thinking about & loving her kids. The only thing I would change is to make the rhymes more consistent. I felt like the rhyming was clear on some pages but not on others.

A cute book, sweet, nice rhymes and illustrations. Definitely more of a book for the mom who works outside the home than for the child. It feels a little like a way for the mom to work through her "working mom guilt," but I have no problem with that. Picture books can be for grown ups too! I think the illustrations, colors, and general loving theme will keep a child reader engaged.

A board book featuring a family of color written in a gentle rhyming verse. Something about the this sweet little story oozed calm & reassurance (the font contributed, too!) as mommy went to work & child went to preschool & each one's day reflected the other's.

Loved this book. Loved the sentiment, loved the chorus, loved the story. Loved how it was about a working black mom and her daughter and it was totally naturally and not forced feeling. But it didn't quite stick for some reason.
