Monsters and Gargoyles #1-3

Monsters and Gargoyles Boxset

Rate this book
Life as a monster is a sh*t pile with a cherry on top...

It's hard to be a monster in a world full of goddesses and humans. Especially when, on a rare occasion, you happen to accidentally kill a person here or there. And people, for some reason, seem to think you're the bad guy. Crazy, right?

But if there's one thing a monster knows, it's that life can always get worse.

Like when your enemies, the gargoyles, finally manage to get their hands on you. And as hot as that sounds, they're not exactly putting their hands where you want them, if you know what I mean.

Because while the rest of the world sees gargoyles as the sexy white knights charged with protecting humanity, they're kind of protecting them from us... by taking our heads.

So that's what we're dealing with now. Being hated by the world, kidnapped by hot gargoyles, and preparing for whatever the next disaster might be.

It's strange though. Sometimes the Fates have plans and maybe this time we monsters might get our happily-ever-afters too.

MONSTERS AND GARGOYLES is a box set of the first three full-length books in the Monsters and Gargoyles Medusa's Destiny, Keto's Tale, and Celaeno's Fate. These are steamy reverse harem stories set in modern-day, with sassy heroines, and hot-as-sin gargoyles. So, be ready for three standalones about Medusa, a mermaid, and a harpy, in a shared universe that will leave you begging for more.

Actually, when I read that those were supposed to be just some light hearted, fun stories, I was expecting not much of a plot, not much character development and just an enjoyable read where characters fall in love with each other, have sex and then decide that they're gonna be together for the rest of their long and happy lives. I guess that's also why the rating of this book eventually had to be a five star rating. It's not that those books were masterpieces, but they were so much more than I expected!

But, before we dive into that part of this review, I wanna start with saying that Andersen has an amazing writing style. It's easy to read, it's not overly flowery and yet she brings all those emotions and conversations across perfectly. Every character sounds slightly different and even though the writing isn't too detailed, I got a very clear sense of direction and how the scenery looked. It was one of the reasons this book was so pleasant.

The other reason was the plot and how much of a plot there actually was. Not only is there a big story arc, spanning over all the different books and still going strong when I finished the third story, but every book also clearly has its own subplots. Yes, there is a lot of sex in these books (I'll get to that), but there's also a lot of action, we get to see a lot of the mythological world and its creatures and all characters have to learn and grow and they all DO learn and grow because of each other, because the other is not who they think they are.

But most of all, I got the feeling that those books were about female empowerment, about girls who were victims, victims of abusive men, victims of raging Gods, victims of false rumors and lies. Those girls, those monsters, are claiming their lives back, their narratives. It's one of the reasons I didn't mind the loads of sex scenes. They were about the girls being in charge, in control, taking what they wanted because they wanted it. They were part of a bigger storyline, where the girls were learning that they deserved better, that they deserved to be respected and loved. And within those storylines we encounter some surprisingly heavy themes and I think they were really well done.

So, I feel a little addicted right now and one way or another I will also get my hands on the rest of this series!

Woah this box set is amazing. You get the first three books in this series and they are stand-alone which is a plus. So you don't need to read them in any order in my opinion. But if you are like me, then you always have to read the first book in a series regardless if they are stand-alone or a continuation. So I will try and break this down with what I thought of each book. I loved them all! I have to say that I went through a lot of conflicting emotions so be prepared.

Medusa's Destiny- Medusa, Harold, Marcus, Byron, Forrest
So you have Medusa who gets captured by some gargoyle monster hunters. So why is she being hunted? Well, the hunters need her help to save their race. However, it seems that these hunters seem a bit set in the ways that they are taught and what they are told about the monsters they have hunted. Will she help them? Will she be able to change what they think of monsters. All I know is that there are always good/bad monsters. I was shocked once I read her story
So how will this play out?

Keto's Tale- Keto, Clark, Max, Arthur, and Steven
This one was really good. You have a sea goddess Keto who is trying to escape the clutches of evil only to be rescued by the monster hunters. However, there is a little white lie going around. She doesn't tell then who she really is. So what happens when the guys find out. Will the time she spent with them be able to change their mind about monsters. This band of brothers seems to have some discord amongst them. They all have a past that they just cannot get rid of or can they. Who will break first in this book?

Celaenos Fate- Calaeno, Grey, Ender and Journey
Ohh fate can be fickle and cruel. So one day everything just goes bad for Celaeno and is kidnapped by the monster hunter. Let us just say that I do not like Grey for most of this book. The hunters enlist her in finding out what is going on in a small town. So there is a lot of bickering and sassiness in this book. There was also a bit of information that was provided and I got goosebumps. So will the guys find out is she is truly is a monster. I would have loved to have known is if Journey told the guys about the secret he is holding in?

All three books are totally worth it. You will have a love/hate relationships with some of the characters. Don't worry they make it up with some smexy times. I cannot wait to read more of the series.

I really enjoyed these three books for the most part. They became a little repetitive after a while with the whole “she’s a monster” thing and some of the dudes needed a swift kick in the nuts with their behavior. I get you need some drama to keep the story going...but these ladies forgave some serious crap waaaaay to easily. The thing that hooked me was each of the “monsters”. I’m looking forward to the next ones.

If you're familiar with Lacey Carter Anderson's stories, you don't need to read my notes. You know whether you love her stories (as I do) or don't care for all the hot sex and supernatural beings. So don't waste time reading my notes, dig into the three stories, and enjoy!
If you're not familiar, read the blurb and if you still are hesitant, read my notes.
Medusa's Destiny
Byron (bad cop gargoyle) and Harold (good cop gargoyle) kidnap the monster, Melissa Gorgon, *the* Medusa. Byron finds himself strongly attracted to Medusa, despite viewing her as an enemy. Carrying her as he flies turns out to be an arousing experience. They meet up with Forrest, the third gargoyle, and he asks Harold, "after she completes their assignment, how are we going to kill her?" Byron and Medusa have their clothes stolen and walk to Eros' temple naked. They are given ambrosia, which acts as an aphrodisiac. Harold and Forrest investigate what's taking so long and also get drugged with ambrosia. The four of them spend an erotic sex-filled night. Though they do manage to steal the statue. Next to succumb is Marcus, the alpha, after they steal Aphrodite's necklace. Then back to the Gargoyle sanctuary, where Medusa is still considered a monster, and "monsters must die". But fate intervenes in a miraculous way and Medusa's destiny becomes clear. There are many more plot twists and turns throughout this story and a lot of hot, steamy, erotic RH sex (eventually four on one!), so skip this if you aren't into vigorous sexual solo, coupling, tripling and quadrupling.
Keto's Tale
Keto is a goddess but is enslaved by her cruel brother. She has lived a life of pain and suffering despite her powers and her control of the monsters of the sea. Finally, her brother uses her to get control of the four sea dragons in a heartless plot to sacrifice her. Amazingly, she is rescued by four gargoyles who bring her sexual pleasure for the first time, and then many times thereafter, described in steamy, erotic detail. To remove the slave collar from her neck, she must see Hephaestus. She meets Cerberus, not a three-headed dog, but a female shifter, apparently an old friend. She finds out where Hephaestus is but on the way is captured and again tortured by her brother. The gargoyles, strong as they are, are no match for a god. The conclusion is an amazing adventure, with twists that are an unexpected but welcome outcome. Keto's Tale was hard to put down, it's a very exciting story on several levels. I didn't want to stop until I reached the end. We are left wondering what became of Lamia and Cerberus, hopefully in a future tale?
Celaeno's Fate
Pay attention to the point of view at the beginning of chapters. Thought of as a monster, a cruel harpy, with the body of a bird and the face of a woman, without kindness or empathy, but she is completely misunderstood, a victim of legends and tales. Her emotions affect birds; anger will make them attack. She is captured by Grey, Journey, and Ender, three gargoyles, who are on a mission to help people attacked by birds. Grey is the "bad cop" who believes the worst of her despite being attracted, while Journey and Ender have trouble seeing her as a monster. Elite Edgar has a devious plan to kill all the female monsters after they have given birth. He will use their progeny to train into his personal army. Journey is the first to yield to the mutual attraction; then Grey quickly followed by Ender and Journey as they find her naked in a bed. A final confrontation with an evil witch, and the guys are convinced Calaeno is not a monster, but their woman to be protected.

Monster Mash

I waffled for several minutes about the rating for this set of books before settling on 2 stars. There is a great idea at the core of the series, but the author’s skill at incorporating that idea as part of a romance novel leaves the potential unfulfilled.

The fundamental flaw starts with the premise that the gargoyle men physically assault the women, kidnap, and imprison them with the express intention of using them for their powers before killing them. Somehow the author pivots from the violence to having the women “bounce” on the men, who then sp**ge in their pants or vigorously masturbate like pubescent teenagers. The author posits that the men are heroes because they resist sexually molesting or raping the women they abuse. As such, I could not fathom why the women liked the men.

The other point that indicated that the author’s writing style lacked the necessary skill is that she needed to avail herself of a thesaurus. Medusa and Celaena are described as “tiny” with such frequency that I couldn’t help but envision the female protagonists as children. Apparently Medusa has short arms and all of the female characters are picked up and carried like they’re toddlers. It made the whiplash effect of the graphic sexual interactions repulsive. The primary word the author used to describe the men was “hot”.

What spared this set from a 1 Star review is that I liked the female characters and appreciated the use of the mythological creatures as characters. I only wish that the author had an editor who could have helped her improve the works overall.

Living forever sounds so fun in vampire romances, but that’s when you have a bunch of hot guys fighting over you. Living forever as Medusa, a woman who turns people to stone with a glance, well, it’s not all that fun.

Monsters and Gargoyles is a complete omnibus of 8 standalone books that all fit together nicely and honestly I loved every story but I must say Medusa's story stole my heart.

When the gargoyles are having trouble reproducing and babies don't survive they need the aid of a statue and necklace that the gods made and need the help of medusa to get them. But what they forget to mention is once she does what they want they are also expected to kill her.

But as we know things hardly ever turn out as planned and what follows is 4 gargoyles falling for a monster they were meant to hate. And finding out that the monster can have their baby.

So this is when you get the rest of the books and of gargoyle brotherhoods hunting for female monsters but not knowing it's because their elders want to see if they can fall in love and if these monsters are different from the ones they have been hunting.

I enjoyed the approach this author takes with these books. This set provides a fresh look at some of the female monsters who have been maligned and things are not what they may have seemed. So in these stories, they get to be in control of what happens to them, getting a second chance at love, taking the things they want and not being forced by a big clueless brute.

The characters are strong and many become refreshingly likable. The story lines intriguing, keeping the reader’s full attention. And having these first three monsters and gargoyles books together in one collection is a real bonus for the reader! Get your copy and enjoy, one right after the other! This set provides something special for everyone! If you want an even closer look at the books, these stories are reviewed individually as well.

Gargoyles are good. They are the protectors of the innocents, the hunters of monsters. But what if the monsters are the innocents? What if they're the victims? These gargoyles brotherhoods are going to find themselves in love with the very being they hunt, with amazing but hurt women that are called monsters.

Hot and at the same time sweet. The books in this box are an easy and enjoyable read. I love how they show how woman in Greek mythology are punished for being the victims or for doing what was ordered (and that's a fact). The only thing that I really didn't like was when one of the guys would hit them. That's only happens maybe once in each book, but I really dislike it. That aside, this box is brilliant!

Monsters need love too

All is not as it seems - the monsterous ladies (Medusa, Keto and Celaeno) aren’t so horrendous after all. (And isn’t that just an allegory for the vilification of women in today’s society). Each lady finds love and a family with a trio of hunky male gargoyle hunters. These males initially seek out the monsterous ladies to hunt and eliminate them, but when they realize the situation is not as it appears, then the feelings present have a chance to blossom. In the end, those feelings blossom into a pregnancy (for Medusa, it’s twins!). Redemption is sweet (plus it makes for a really great read!) and it makes me want to read about other lady monsters getting their happily ever afters!

All the legends are true...to an extent. We delve into this Greek-inspired world full of monsters and gargoyles where everything isn’t quite what it seems. Each book has a new group of narrators while building a cohesive storyline and each group has its own draw for a reader. They can be read as a series that have familiar faces popping up and are interconnected, but each can be a standalone. I was more excited for some than others but ended up loving them all. Every single story had an amazing amount of depth to the history of each monster that is explored throughout the book and you can tell the amount of research that went into the original myths.

This includes the first three books in Lacey Carter Anderson's Monsters and Gargoyles series-Medusa's Destiny, Keto's Tales, and Celaeno's Fate. This is a paranormal, reverse harem or why choose romance. Each book cam be ready as a standalone with the same basic theme. To Gargoyles, good and evil are very black and white. They see all Monsters as evil, regardless of their circumstances. The monsters, Medusa, a mermaid, and a harpy are cast as villians in the Gargoyles minds, and as monster hunters, they will do what they must. This is a really creative series that all paranormal romance fans will enjoy.

Now in an awesome boxed set - for year ease of binge reading. What's not to like?

I've loved reading the tales of these ladies, who has been misunderstod and taken advan7age of. Each and every story holds her pa1n and hopes. And of course, the gargoyles to make her happy!
Most of these men comes with their own tra0ma and the growth for all characters are wonderful to follow.

While all of these can be read on their own, there are cross overs of characters. We will meet some characters for future stories as we go along and there is an overall plot to be resolved.
I highly recommend reading all the stories in order - and it's so easy to do with the boxed set.

If you are into audio, then give them a go too. I've listened to Lamia's Bl00d. It was so very well narrated.

All the stories are well plotted and the al over challenge is beautifully handled.

Highly recommend.

I love, love, love that LCA looks to the Lady Monsters of Mythology and decides to give them back their humanity their soul. She shows the world that these ladies were falsely wronged centuries ago by men who could only see them at face-value. She is giving them a voice and a story and I love it. Each backstory and subsequent love story makes me: 1) want to go reread my mythology again, 2) be kinder before I judge someone. These stories about Monster Ladies getting a second chance at love with these stone hunks is a must read. It's even better now that they are together in one book.

These stories are brilliantly written, with meaning and depth to the characters. The women in these books have all been labelled as monsters by mythology, and teams of gargoyles are sent to capture and kill them. During their adventures the gargoyles find out that life is not just black and white, and just maybe mythology got it wrong. Awesome writing, awesome characters. I have to find the next stories in this series.

Well written stories full of action, finding the heart of what's important and lasting love

This is a great collection of stories that are full of danger, prejudice and romance. All of the characters had great depth and their plights caught at my heart strings. I have to say I was really on the edge of my seat, at times, but thankfully, this is a romance collection ;) I really enjoyed the spin that the author puts on these so-called monsters and gives them a chance at true love. And yeah, hot love with some hard as stone mates ;)

With strong writing and full of action, adventure, wonderful characters and world building these are the stories of three women. Women believed to be monsters simply because of who they are.

Of course we shouldn’t believe everything we’re told because things aren’t always what they seem. I loved how the author took these mythological creatures, we all probably grew up reading about as villains, and told new and sexy stories.

Definitely a recommend from me.

These three stories are stand-alone in a new boxset. They are each beautifully retold stories of monster lore with plenty of action, romance and steam. I love that the monster series takes the side of the misunderstood monster. I hope this series continues. There are plenty of misunderstood monsters still out there.

I really enjoyed each of these books in this bundle. Each book was on a different monster but one thing was the same. Each monster found love with a set of gargoyles. The gargoyles are learning there is more than meets the eye and not every monster is really a monster and just may be the salvation they need. I look forward to more from this world.

Are they really monsters or misunderstood? Stories have been told about these three women for thousands of years. That they are monsters. But they have all been victims, cursed, and enslaved. Now gargoyles have been sent to kill them, or enslave them again. but what the gargoyles find is not monsters, but love and the key to the survival of their race. Medusa, Keto and Celaeno are monsters. But what exactly is a monster?

Although Keto is my personal favourite, I thoroughly enjoyed each story and the re-imagining of these tales. Who's the real monster huh?

There are great teasers to upcoming stories and I'm keen to see what happens with Cerberus and Lamia. They seemed like the most damaged out of all the ones I read about and I'm keen for a HEA. I'm also keen to see how the Gargoyle community changes.

Totally binge-worthy.

Unputdownable

It's rare that i get glued to a book and this is one such. Excellent ideas, storyline, narration and the research gone into it. But the only problem is bad editing - typos, grammatical errors, tense anomalies. Otherwise, this is a great read and i thank the author for it.

This Omnibus brings together the 11 books in the Monsters and Gargoyle series so is a huge bargain!

Starting out with Medusa’s Destiny, we enter a world a world where myths meet legend in a modern setting. They think she’s a monster but is the truth what they have always been taught?

A great series of individual stories as the world unfolds.
