Resolution, but no resolution
Yes, we get a resolution to everything that happened in the previous book! The true characters all come out! Bryn finally stands up to her grandmother, in several ways, managing to impress her as much as piss her off! And Bryn finds out what she truly wants to be as well. But…
Yes, there’s always a “but”. The ending left me quite disappointed. We have here a slow-burn romance, which doesn’t fully resolve. Everything is building up to something that doesn’t quite happen. Maybe in the main series, we’ll get to see how that develops, but unfortunately it doesn’t happen here. I believe that that was the biggest let down of the two books, knowing that there could have been so much more.
What I liked most, however, was the deeper digging into the mythology, as Bryn travels through the afterlife on her own, discovering other lines in the mythology belonging to some of the other beings, which she in turns relates back to these other beings in the living world.
All in all, it isn’t bad. Bryn learning “BSL” (in this instance, Banshee Sign Language instead of British Sign Language) is an interesting one, along with why they use the sign language. Along with other little quirks, it makes it an interesting story.
3,5 stars. I somehow wished for this duology to be... a bit more This is a review for both books in this duology, Valkyrie's Chaos and Valkyrie's Choice. First let me start off by saying I was really excited about this book's premise and the world it promised. I haven't read that many F/F romances either and looking at Arizona Tape's catalog it felt like a good place to start. Well, although the world is indeed very interesting (really, there's so much potential there!) I was a bit disappointed to see that these two books felt more like two episodes of one book, both in terms of length and in terms of plot evolution itself. Bryn, the main character, starts off as one of the least sympathetic and most entitled brats I've ever met in my life. Thea, on the other hand, is fascinating and I can't help thinking I would have loved this book so much if we had Thea's POV instead, or at least alternating between two POVs. As it is now, most of the time you kinda want to smack Bryn in the face. Her only redeeming quality is her willingness to learn the sign language. Another problem I had was the lack of exposition. Don't get me wrong, I don't like books where everything is explained ad nauseam and we get overwhelmed with every little detail of the world. But at times, this felt like the opposite. Where is this world? Are they on Earth? Do they interact with other humans? How does one become a Valkyrie? What is the East Wind and what are the Dancers? Why are Elves Reapers? What are the Guardians? Why do Valkyries have shadow wolves while the Banshee has a shadow...panther, was it? What's the deal with the teachers being so unsympathetic, cardboard cut out characters who all seem to hate children? Where did this Banshee come from and why does she care to teach Valkyries? I have so many questions! Because like I said, I think this world is amazing and we should be given the opportunity to explore it more. Finally, I have an issue with the romance element: mainly, that there was so little of it. I think it's unfair to categorize this book as an F/F romance when, even for a YA setting, the characters don't do anything more than hold hands by accident two times. When the book ended, I thought the series Valkyrie 101 would somehow pick up directly after that, as it ended RIGHT when things started getting interesting... But no. Apparently Valkyrie 101 is a few years in the future with another protagonist... TLDR; Great premise of world, one of the MCs is fascinating, wish it was more fleshed out.

This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these.

Valkyrie’s Choice is the second book in the Heir of the East duology by Arizona Tape.
The is an ff story, and I really loved the beauty between Bryn and Thea, it was subtle and the emotional connection was really well expressed.
These books are a perfect accompaniment to the Afterlife Academy series. However, there’s no requirement to have read the other books, but I would recommend doing so.
This is a grand conclusion to The Heir of the Easy duology. It picks up right where book 1 left off and the action continues. Bryn faces trials and has an important choice to make. This book is a wild ride of drama and suspense and was very fun to read!

Betrayed. Abandoned. The Heir of the East must stand alone in her fight for truth and justice, but not for the dead but for those still living and herself.
When we left Brynhild, she had just overheard her best friend Stina blackmailing the headmaster of The Afterlife Academy. Stina is holding the headmaster’s daughter hostage in exchange for his cooperation.
His cooperation includes the poisoning of Heike and the cover-up of Stina ripping off Heike’s wings. Never mind the cove-up of the tornado being magical in nature and constructed by Stina and her boss. The sole goal being to destroy and kill Brynhild.
Brynhild is shocked. She tells her Grandmother who does not believe her. What to do? No resources. No help. Stina and the headmaster must be stopped.
Brynhild has no choice...The Heir of the East will make the next choice.
Arizona Tape starts Valkyrie’s Choice (Vampari Press, B07W4XQDX6, 2019) the second book in “The Heir of the East” off slowly. We sit in the mass of confusion and denial that Bryn feels as a result of the bombs that have gone off in her life. Her haven of safety of course is Thea’s. It is during this time that Bryn takes her “pause” and realizes that life cannot be what she wants it to be at that time.
From that moment on, Tape moves quickly through the story to a somewhat unsatisfying conclusion. I write unsatisfying because Tape has this as only being a two book series and that just cannot be. Yes, the book has a definitive ending and you can come to some conclusions as to what happens next. I am so greedy (laugh). I want more...and I guess that is what makes Tape so good.
I received an ARC of this book and I am writing a review without prejudice and voluntarily.
This is the conclusion of the duology that's a good companion to the Afterlife Academy series. I really love the world and am always ready to go back. There's a lot of action that kept me sucked in to the story.
