Will Their Chemistry Off The Field Be As Good As On The Field?
Tom Hoffman took a huge risk when he came out early in his football career – but now he’s one of the most popular players in the country. Thousands of eager fans are following his move over to the San Francisco 49ers, and he’s just as excited as they are to explore new territory and meet his new teammates.
One teammate in particular has always caught his eye. Not only is Chuck Wilson an incredible athlete, but he’s very handsome too. When they’re paired up together for a media event, Tom is thrilled to have the opportunity to greet this new colleague he’s always admired… but it turns out that Chuck isn’t as naturally friendly as Tom is. Is he homophobic, Tom wonders? Or is he just edgy around reporters?
But it’s neither. Beneath the surface, Chuck has a lot more to worry about than media interviews – and the more time he spends around Tom, the more his secret desires are likely to surface.
Tensions are high, and emotions are too. Can Tom get through to Chuck and help him overcome his fear? Can Chuck learn to accept himself and move on with his life? Or will a drunken mistake ruin everything they might have built together?
The first story was only one I read because trying to read the second one was an exercise in self-flagellation. No thanks. So the first story was fine except that is just suddenly ended. It left me high and dry and gets two stars for that. Incomplete books irritate me and I wish I had looked more closely at the product details before reading because I also hate the collection of short story books that are thousand page monstrosities and full of bad short fictions. So, do not recommend.
Just so many things wrong with this. It is promoted as a “Gay Sports Comedy Romance” except there is no comedy and no romance. Two pro-football players, out-and-proud Tom and deeply repressed Chuck, meet when Tom starts to play for Chuck’s team (the SF 49ers). Tom asks Chuck to join him for drinks after an event and the next morning they wake up in bed together and apparently married. Yet Chuck is terrified that anyone, especially his horrible homophobic father, will find out and out him. But yet they went out drinking, bought wedding rings, got married and then rented a hotel room. So which of those occurs in a vacuum? How could two very famous well-known football players buy wedding rings and get a marriage license without anybody knowing? And why is Chuck described several times as having “rich brown skin” but the cover art shows two whiter than white men? This story has no substance, no character development and ends with a potential HFN. Just bad.
MM. Tom and Chuck are new teammates on a professional football team, and Tom is publicly out. Chuck has no idea what he wants except to continue to pander to his father's demands. Their hotel incident/ night was quite vague with neither of them remembering a thing. The story had a HFN ending with no resolution. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Fair Catch: Gay Sports Comedy Romance by Walker Frost This is Tom Hoffman and Chuck Wilson’s story.
Tom and Chuck’s story was a sweet story about coming to terms with their sexuality. The characters were likable. This was a fun story with some funny, serious, and passionate moments.
FYI, contains mature content. This is a MM romance. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
When I reached the end in surprise, I thought’... and then what happened’. It’s too short. It doesn’t continue. Many parts so ... historically inspiring, I had to share them. A rare experience.
A short story about an openly gay football player and a deeply closeted player with a bigoted homophobic father, who has managed to completely control his son's personal and private life to the detriment of his mental well-being.
The arrival of Tom has Chuck questioning whether he should continue living a big lie in denying who he really is or should he take the necessary steps to be true to himself.
