I thought divine omegas were a myth … until I met him. Dragons are on the verge of extinction and if we don’t find the divine omegas we’re doomed. In three hundred years I’ve never come across one. Until I meet … him.
Haiden is sweet and a little broken, and his fragile smiles make me yearn to claim him as my own. I never thought I’d find a divine omega in a tiny West Virginia town, but not only is Haiden an omega, he’s my destined mate.
Fate has led me to the young man, but the emotions he awakens in me blaze a fire in my heart and I cannot let him go. But once news of his existence breaks, I won’t be the only one trying to claim Haiden. And when danger comes to our door, I’ll do whatever it takes to keep him safe
Jill Haven is a group of writer friends who love to write Mpreg! Dragons, bears, wolves it doesn't matter. Oh, and don't forget contemporary <3 We do our best to make sure that you get books you love!
This was nice, but I never really connected with the writing, or the characters.
I’m not a real fan of books these days where there are so many things going on that the romance takes a backseat.
For the first half there was the issue of Haiden not knowing what Carlisle was. And then when he found out he felt betrayed by not only Carlisle, but also his best friend who hid that she was a dragon as well.
Then we had a sliver of romance, or should I say sexy times, with some hot and heavy dragon knotting.
Then we had the threat of other dragons wanting Haiden, and . It was all a bit too much for me.
Give me a book with less action and more romance any day.
Not that this was a bad book, it just wasn’t for me.
It was interesting...I mean, the world of dragons and mythical beast always leaves a lot of room for an author’s imagination. I liked it at first. Until it started to both stagnate and speed up at the same time. If that’s at all possible. I don’t know...it felt so much like it wasn’t going anywhere and then all of a sudden it was speeding for the finish line waaaaaay too soon. Sigh.. 😒
Not bad, but it really didn't grab me either. Only one spot where the names and POVs of the MCs got switched, so that's an editing almost win. The burning wings on the cover are ridiculous, especially since the author makes a big deal out of Carlisle's red-tinged black scales -- not holes in leather angel wings, ugh! And I know he's 350 years old, but since Haiden believes he's 30, I doubt Carlisle has grey hair. Just saying. As I've been reminded by Donna, grey hair can happen at an early age. I take that last part back. (Still doesn't mean I'm gonna read the rest of the series! ;p )
This story was alright but didn’t really do anything for me. I didn’t connect with the characters or really the story at all. I liked the concept but that was really about it. Unfortunately I the book a couple days ago and nothing is standing out for me to even remember the book.
I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review.
That was...meh. Why do I keep expecting the impossible ? Why do I keep picking up these books looking for something a bit original, a tad unexpected ? It's always a disappointment. His Elder Dragon isn't bad per say. Its your typical "shy-naive-twink meets protective-stunning-alpha-male". Love at first sight, lukewarm sex scenes, the kidnapping/break up over a misunderstanding/whatever/ pick your option soon follows. Love wins over all. Cheesy kiss scene ending and tadaaaa. Mind you, I didn't finish it but I'm willing to bet.
I thought this would be like the guardian dragon series, but it’s not. Not nearly as well written and the characters are not as well developed. I do not think I will read another in the series.
His Elder Dragon is the first book in the Divine Dragons series by author Jill Haven. I really loved this book. The characters are great, and the storyline makes me want more. This book is written in dual pov which allows me to really sink into what both characters are thinking and feeling. Carlisle he is bored. He is 350 years old. He is a dragon and an Alpha at that. Clan leader of the North East USA and leader of Clan Blood Dragons. The eggs of dragons keep dying. They need to find a solution and fast before they are wiped out forever. Haiden, he keeps having the same bad dream. He hasn’t been sleeping. He has no clue about dragons or his roll in saving all of dragon kind. He is feeling hunted. He is also very lonely. These two are really powerful together and have what the other needs. Carlisle needs some of Haiden’s innocent to counter act his jaded nature. And Haiden needs Carlisle’s love and protection. I loved them together. I also liked the pollical aspects of this story. Personally, I cannot wait for the next story in this series I cannot wait to see where everything goes next.
Rating: 3.5 stars There were definitely parts of the story that I liked. I think my major problem with the book was understanding how finding these divine omegas was supposed to solve the fertility problem that the dragon race was facing as a whole. Sure it would solve it for one or two dragons but what about female dragons that want to have children? I not sure how that would solve their problems. Also, I’m not sure I bought into the fact that mating with Carlisle would solve all of Haiden’s anxiety problems. He suffered a lot of trauma at the hands of his father. I don’t think he would be over that, mating or not. Still, the book was enjoyable if you didn’t think too hard about it.
I feel like I really could have loved this book, but the more I start considering the finer details of it, it really stands out that it missed the mark.
To start with, the concept of a “divine omega” which is the entire premise of this book, was glazed over until about 60% of the way into the book - and even then it was not explained in the most easily understood way. And it still confuses me how they even decided that Devine omegas were the solution when just a paragraph before, it was being discussed how the real solution was simply then needing more exercise?
The backstory for Haiden was honestly so damn confusing, I still couldn’t tell you his true heritage without having to go back and read some notes. I felt like we were given way too much information all at once to process.
Also, with Haiden, the book basically ignores his insecurities and anxiety for the about the last 30% I think? So it felt like I was reading a completely different character at times.
Carlisle was.. ok. I love his possessiveness, but I also feel like I didn’t get to know him at all, or anything about his clan for that matter.
Also, there are a TON of grammar errors and even several spots where you’re reading someone’s POV, but the author clearly messed up and references things from the OPPOSITE POV. I had to go back and reread a couple times because I was like “wait… this is supposed to be Carllsle.. so why does it say that xxx was gave Carlisle a hug and then ‘I’ went over and did xxx while Haiden watched xxx”. Confused after reading that? Yeah, so was I lol
Anyway, i also didn’t realize (my own fault) this had mpreg. Which is fine, just not for me. But what I was so dumbfounded by was the fact that Haiden is supposedly anxious and super nervous but is somehow just totally fine with being pregnant less than like a month after meeting Carlisle??? Makes zero sense..
The storyline is a bit loosely constructed with moments of extreme bloodshed and terror, interspersed with some regular life issues. Limited background history and acceptable character development for the length of the story. Ends on a positive note with a promise for the future.
His Elder Dragon is the first book in the Divine Dragons serie by Jill Haven. I really liked the story of Carlisle and Haiden. It was very well written.
Carlisle agreed to a date with a human because he was lonely, but he couldn’t concentrate and his date left in an angry huff. Then he got a text from Donovan Hess saying “Princeps Draco (clan leader of the Northeast in the US), meet me at the McGuires’ house.” When he drove up the long drive, he saw a hearse and people grieving. It took something pretty bad to kill a dragon. When Donovan pulled him into the house, there was an egg on the coffee table with cracks all over it and black oozing out. He told Carlisle this was the 5th egg in a year they had lost. No young dragons were surviving. The same thing was happening all up and down the East Coast for the past three years – and probably the same thing for the West Coast. And in the past 30 years, there have been no new omegas. Donovan believed the dragons were not shifting enough, becoming weaker, not made to live life as a human. And when the females had to give birth, they didn’t have the strength they needed.
To start, they would look for isolated dragons who were in their dragon forms most, not living close to humans. But there was also another possibility. There were old stories of “Divine Omegas”, gems hidden among the humans. They were supposedly blessed by the old dragon gods, born from a dragon bloodline and the dragon’s human mate. The myth said if a dragon mated one of those omegas, they would give birth to live young rather than eggs! What if those tales are real? He wouldn’t let the others know, but he was going to search for those Divine Omegas. With dragons being real, it was possible he could find the Divine Omegas too.
Haiden had a horrible nightmare, flames had surrounded him and crackled loudly. This was the third time this week. He went outside and was walking at a fast pace along the bike trail, when he heard a branch cracking in the shadowy woods off to the right. He hurried back to his apartment, but he was sure someone had been stalking him. Then he went to work early. The diner got very busy and Haiden had to help wait tables, but he was shy and hated to talk to people. He went over to a handsome man and stuttered trying to ask how he could help him. Something about the man tugged at him, as if they should know each other. He felt the man’s eyes follow him. He signed the credit card receipt as ‘Mason Hardwick’. When he left, he called Carlisle and told him he had found a Divine Omega! Would this save their clan? Would it be the start of saving the dragons? Could they protect him from the other who would come for him?
This was a good story about finding Haiden, a damaged young man whose father had abused him. These special omegas had to be sought out to continue the blood line. The story line had a good pace, action, suspense, and characters that were well-defined. Grab your copy and see how the dragon dilemma sorts itself out.
Dragon fire and dragon mating provide the heat in this first book of a new series. Dragons have forgotten the old ways and think of them only as fairy tales. Now, however, dragon eggs are failing to hatch and the omegas are dying. Rumours arise of Divine Omegas existing in various parts of the US and several clans begin a search, not all with good intentions toward those Omegas. Haiden has spent his entire life having panic attacks sever enough to warrant medication, has been abused by his father when his mother died giving birth and is working as a cook at a diner to earn enough to get out of the small town to a large city for psychiatric care. His mental health problems are first exacerbated then relieved when he meets Carlisle, a diner customer with a huge secret. Carlisle is head of a dragon clan and he is immediately attracted to Haiden in a way unfamiliar to him. Mysteries are revealed, modern dragons begin to learn about their true history, Haiden and Carlisle discover how hot it can be to find your fated mate and there are some truly creepy scenes when Haiden is being stalked by unknown pursuers. One incident sets up a conflict sure to be dealt with later in the series and our next dragon and his Divine Omega meet and begin an interesting chase toward their fate. I became invested quickly in these characters and their world and look forward to learning more dragon history as the series continues.
Excellent start to a new series! Haiden lives in Muscogee, WV. He is unaware of many realities. He suffers from anxiety attacks manifest through his bad dreams. At 350, years old, Carlisle is the oldest clan leader. Carlisle, saddened by another mother and baby dying during childbirth, living with the understanding that dragons are about to go extinct. Donovan, watches their clan community, while Carlisle grows the money. He confronts Carlisle with the lack of newborns and those born were Alphas. There are no omegas for dragons who prefer men. He heard of divine omegas, which can continue the species, but thought they were a myth. Carlisle asks a few friends to scout for lone dragons or those seemingly not belonging to a clan. Mason, in Muscogee scented Haiden. Carlisle travels to Muscogee, finds Haiden, scents his mate and realizes that in all his 350 years, there's still a lot he doesn't know. Jade, Haiden's best friend/guardian dragon, Mason, Carlisle and Bishop, Carlisle's cousin join to explore the new development of Divine Omegas. Very nice story! Great group of characters. Nice hints of stories to come. I want to read them all at once! Nicely done, Ms Haven! I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Divine Omegas exist. Can one be found in time to saved a dying race?
What a rush! The characters pulled me in to their lives. I could see them vividly. I truely cared about them. You will too. This book has is all: tragedy, hope, a fierce protector, fated mates, a kidnapping, loyal friends, and HEA. This is not the end, but the beginning of what should be a fantastic series. Come. Join Carlisle, leader of the Northeast Dragon clans as he searches for the fabled Divine Omega. The clans are dying. More & more births end in death for both mother & child. Haiden doesn't know about dragons, omegas or mpreg. His best friend Jade has protected him his whole life. Now, others want the Divine omega for themselves. But Carlisle has given Haiden his heart & soul, and will go to any length to keep him; including rescuing him from kidnappers. The road to HEA is bumpy, but love and Fate will intervene. While Carlisle & Haiden's story concludes, other character's stories are incomplete. I can't wait for the next book! This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
It is a new series about Dragon shifters, whose bloodlines are dying out, and one of their only hopes is the divine Omegas, but are they myth or fact.
I liked this shifter novel, the world building seem to be slow and almost drip fed to the reader, as characters revealed more of themselves, just like how you would get to know new friend but I did feel there was a little lack of depth to the writing as I would’ve liked more background. The characters both secondary and main were interesting each having quirks and dynamics that I wouldn’t mind reading more about. Hayden suffers with anxiety from all accounts severely but apart from putting him to bed after a panic attack it’s not really dealt with, other than to say he has some pills he got from an ER, this is also the last one that he has and it’s not mentioned again by anyone, even when he does see a doctor.
Overall as long as you are looking for a easy to read dragon romance with some fire, blood, violence and a little bit of angst then you will enjoy this book, but go in with expectations and I feel you maybe disappointed. So switch off and enjoy the dragons 🐉.
To my ratings: A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
Carlisle is an alpha dragon in charge of a group of blood dragons. There has been problems with the dragon women and omegas. There has not been any successful births in a long time. It has been said that there are Divine Omegas out there. Divine Omega's are said to give birth to live young. Haiden is a Divine Omega but does not know it. Haidens mother was half Cloud Dragon, and his father was human but had dragon blood in his bloodline. Carlisle and Haiden spend some time together and grow close. Carlisle thinks that Haiden is his fated mate. Carlisle tries to explain everything to Haiden, however Haiden does not want to listen. Haiden finally listens to what everyone has to say and then sits to think about his life and how he was raised. Haiden has always felt like he was being watched and now he knows why. Haiden is kidnapped. Can Carlisle find him in time? What will happen when Haiden is found? Why was Haiden kidnapped?
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a great shifter book that has some of everything: love, drama, suspense, and spicy times. I couldn’t help but fall in love with Haiden. He is so broken and insecure, yet adorably sweet and caring. It was great to watch him strengthen and grow in confidence as his relationship developed with Carlisle.
There were some good secondary characters that I’d like to know more about, but there were almost too many other characters introduced, especially at the beginning of the book. There were so many that I couldn’t keep them straight and when the names started popping up again later, all I could recall was the name and I couldn’t make any association. Having said that, there were a few that I could make a connection with and I’d like to learn more about them. I’m excited for the Mason - Seth pairing, but I’d love to see Bishop, who thinks he isn’t compatible, find someone who can break his gruff exterior and help him find his HEA.
This author is new to me. This is the first book I’ve read by Jill Haven, but it sure won’t be the last.
Fluffy read. There’s a ton of potential in the idea, but it’s done with traditional romance execution—so the cool ideas—the dragon society, the implications of omegas—were more set pieces than world building. It scratched an itch and a guilty pleasure but it’s nothing I’d recommend or return to. I even struggled with the setting, because none of the local WV characters seemed right. They were generic when there was opportunity to bring the small-town, almost southern flavor that WV tends to have—especially when you’re talking little backwoods towns. I will give credit where it’s due though, because one thing I was worried about when I decided to read this was if it were going to be dub-con at best—a problem a lot of the genre struggles with mightily. Mpreg is a guilty pleasure of mine, so I run into it frequently with the omega type stories. She avoided it deftly and it’s clear that the relationship is enthusiastic and willing, so that was a breath of fresh air.
Not a bad or good read really. Also, it was the first time in an audio where the sexy time scene caused a bit of hysteria...it was cringey...but overall it was a good read, just not my favorite. I finished and like the characters enough. I just know that the side characters I liked more. Carlisle was fine, typical alpha dragon shifter and leader of a clan, so ya that pretty much sums him up. Then you have Haiden, who was a bit too naive for me...I mean he was just okay too. Eric, Jade, Mason and the tiny part Seth had sort of stole the show. Needless to say, I am so looking forward to Mason and Seth's story!! Also, Grabriel Amari is a great narrator, I am just not sure why that first sexy encounter, or maybe it was all of them was so bad...I have listened to other books narrated by him and they are totally fine...Overall, so-so book, but would recommend to start the series and then continue on. I have already read book 5 and enjoyed it quite a lot.
ARC provided and this is my voluntary, honest review.
What was wrong with him? Why did important people in his life treat him so terribly? How could he kill his own mother? Why was he such a freak?
As an adult he's paranoid that people are spying on and following him. As a child he told everyone he'd seen live Dragons flying around. Constant ridicule made him super self-conscious, physical and mental abuse stripped away his self-esteem leaving a shell of a Human. Afraid all the time he developed a severe debilitating anxiety problem.
But as facts are revealed, it becomes clear Haiden has good reasons to be the way he is. He's been lied to and mistreated most of his life. When a handsome older man, new in town begins to show a great deal of interest in him he is surprised, flattered, suspicious, and shocked by what happens after this man becomes an important part of his life.
Haiden finally gets his HEA but it's not an easy journey. It's fraught with many pitfalls and incredulity. There's a huge mystery, danger, terror, and Dragons. This is a great mpreg story with a wonderful cast of characters and a special Omega.
3.5 ⭐️ Not a bad start to the year. I fully intended to rate this 4 stars but about 75% through I started losing interest and definitely skipped and skimmed through some just to get finished. I guess what held my attention so long was the tension between the mc’s. I found it quite cute. And I really liked Carlisle and Jade. Hell even Haiden starts to grow on you once you realize he has a tiny backbone and he’s not completely a doormat. Not a bad read at all. I just wish that the obvious occurrence that happened would have been bigger. In the sense that it came and went too quickly. I got a little black soul so I just be looking for that extra boundary push and this totally missed the opportunity. Now granted poor Haiden didn’t need more trauma but it was set up so perfectly and fell flat. Even still I’m excited to start the next book. Might read a filler book first but I’m definitely not done with this series. The next is sure to be a whirlwind with Seth and Mason. I like the little peaks of personality I’ve gotten of them so far.
