Vowing never again to become involved with a woman or to let his trusting nature get him into trouble, Garth Fraser finds his determination undermined by California dancehall girl Rory O'Grady, who not only charms him with her beauty but steals his map to a gold mine at the behest of her scheming father. Original.
Wisconsin natives, Ana Leigh and her husband, Don, have three children and five grandchildren. From the time of the publication of her novel, LOVE'S LONG JOURNEY, by Leisure Books in 1981, Ana successfully juggled her time between her chosen career and her hobby of writing, until she officially retired in September of '94 to devote more time to her "hobby." In the past she has been a theater cashier (who married the boss,) the head of an accounting department, a corporate officer, and the only female on the Board of Directors of an engineering firm.

This book started ok but devolved into trite dialogue and impossible plot devices. The worst thing of all was Rory's father; he was irritating beyond words. I gave the book a three because I was able to finish it. I also don't like that the author gathers together all of the characters from previous (and future) books. I really don't see the way she combines the characters from other books in this series as being very interesting or believable.
Garth Fraser stops in a one-horse town and catches the eye of the local dancehall girl, Rory. They are interested in each other but Garth has plans; he has the mine map from his deceased uncle and plans to look for gold.
During a fight in the saloon, Garth's map is picked up by Rory's father and he talks Rory into leaving immediately to look for gold. From this point, the story goes from bad to worse.

This was a fast somewhat entertaining read that didn't have a lot to it. Most of the book involves the main characters flirting back and forth and almost having sex. There was little plot and the dialogue and actions of the main hero/heroine were very modern. I would not read again although it was entertaining enough for a quick skim through.
Pretty good American historical romance but I thought the action kind of dragged mid-way. I liked the main characters personalities except for a part in the middle when they took on typical romance novel traits. Rory's father steals a map to a gold mine and they set out to find the treasure with the map's owner Garth in hot pursuit.
