I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Learn all about the life of Susan B. Anthony, from childhood to her teaching career where she fought for equal pay, and beyond. Anthony thought that slavery should be abolished and that women should have the right to vote. She devoted most of her life to speaking out about equal rights for all and is celebrated as an international icon for women's rights.

This educational little biography is a Level 1 Co-Reader, which is perfect for sharing between kids who are learning to read and a parent! Each spread includes a paragraph that the adult or caregiver can read paired with an easier to read paragraph for the young reader. Each is clearly marked with an 'I read' and 'You read'.

2020 is the 100th anniversary of women winning the right to vote and this is the perfect book to teach and learn a little about what women had to do to earn that right. Of course, this book sticks to easy-to-understand facts, mostly covering Susan B. Anthony's life from birth to death, but also a bit about the political aspects of her life and what she fought for.

This book includes directions on how to read this book and several discussion questions to ask your child and an easy voting activity that only requires a little artistic ability and a few members of the family! There is also a letter to the parents about the National Geographic Readers program and how important it is to read with your child/ren.

I read and reviewed this book on Lazy Day Literature on International Women's Day (2020)!

Not all children are going to pick up a biography to read. Children tend to live in a fun filled fantasy world. But it is important to encourage them to read the stories of real people who have achieved great things. Real people who have changed the world.

One of those real people was Susan B. Anthony who worked diligently in the Suffrage movement to obtain the right-to-vote for women.

This book presents the information about Anthony and her work in an easy to read and easy to understand mode with lots of side bars and tidbits of information as well as pretty standard paragraphing.

I think the series of "Super Reader" books from National Geographic Kids Books is a superb addition to libraries everywhere.

Straightforward writing. The strength of this book is photographs from that period of time - of children in a one-room schoolhouse similar to the kind Anthony might have taught in, etc. and images of primary sources like meeting notices, petitions, etc. The confusing part for young readers might be that some of the sources are not from Anthony's lifetime; for example, on a page that describes how Anthony spoke out to groups, there is a photo taken in 1908 of a woman speaking to a group about women's rights which is two years after Anthony passed.

Apprecated the interactive YOUR TURN opportunities throughout the book which (mostly) challenge students to apply some of the ideas the author has talked about on the previous page. "How did Anthony and Stanton share their ideas with people? Talk with a friend or family member about something you believe in. How can you share your ideas?"

ONE WISH - a timeline.

This is a biography of Susan B. Anthony for young readers. Children will learn that Anthony was born in Massachusetts, was a Quaker, campaigned for the abolishment of slavery and for women's rights, and died before women won the right to vote.

Susan B. Anthony is well worth reading with your emergent reader. I am changing my tune about EZ Readers, this series in particular. There are 4 reasons why I recommend Susan B. Anthony for young readers.

1. You read/I read
The book alternates between a page for an adult to read and a page for the child to read. T isn't able or eager to read a full book yet, so having set sections for me and for him helps to prevent him from feeling overwhelmed – helpful built-in scaffolding.

2. Your Turn
After each chapter, a section entitled "Your Turn" connects the content to children's lives. For example, after reading about Anthony's school experience, photographs of one-room schoolhouses and serious-looking students accompany an invitation to compare Anthony's experience to the readers' own.

3. the content
Susan B. Anthony's effort led to women winning the right to vote. I doubt anyone would argue with the importance of this women in our nation's history.

4. the photographs
Each page is full of eye-catching photographs in both color and black and white.

All in all, the Susan B. Anthony Level 1 EZ Reader from National Geographic Kids is unreservedly recommended by this mom and former first-grade teacher.

My six year old loved this book! We read this book multiple times. The format was terrific, and we enjoyed the interactive pages about voting and putting her life events in chronological order. I look forward to reading more of these early reader biographies from National Geographic with my daughter.

Susan B. Anthony worked tirelessly to secure votes and liberty for women in the United States. This book gives an overview of her life and her work, with explanations about petitions, laws, newspaper articles, and how these things influenced Anthony's work. There is also interesting information about clothing styles, employment, habits, and how people lived in at the turn of the century.

I loved the simple writing style, easy for a beginner to understand. There are sections for an adult to read aloud, and then a smaller section with easier words and larger font for the child to read. It's a great way to teach a child new words, and get them involved in reading together!

The colorful design and old-timey photos captured my attention. There are also activities and questions that get the reader engaged and make them think carefully about the ideas in the book. I appreciated how thoughtful the questions are and how much goes into the design!
