Made me stop and think through what I do, routinely, to manage my classrooms...practical examples, studies cited, opposing points of view included. Teachers can use the measure of authority they have to create and maintain a learning environment.

This textbook provides a comprehensive introduction to classroom management for elementary teachers. I really appreciated how it was filled with specific examples and concrete tasks. The checklists were also especially useful! For example, there was a checklist of things to complete and prepare for before the first day of school.

Chapters include organizing your classroom and supplies, establishing classroom rules and procedures, procedures for managing student work, getting off to a good start (the beginning of the school year), planning and conducting instruction, managing cooperative learning groups, maintaining appropriate student behavior, communication skills for teaching, managing problem behaviors, and managing special groups.

As I mentioned, this book was jam-packed with useful information. It was detailed and flowed in a logical manner.
