Danger, Mystery, Intrigue and Twists

A beautiful, deadly contract killer holds one of the keys to the mystery of a woman's death, the most gruesome murder Addie's ever seen or heard about.

Detective Adelaide Henson of Asheville P.D. will brave the streets of Little Havana to find her, corner her. If she can do that without getting killed herself, she'll learn what she needs.

Henson hopes to return with answers, and her list of suspects reduced to ONE.

Still, things don't make sense. The murderer can't be in two places at once, or is there more than one on the loose? Just how much more dangerous will this get?

Conventional detective techniques aren't working. Something is wrong, something is amiss.

The deeper Addie goes, the more she risks. Is she willing? Is she able?

I'm from New York, but I was born in Texas and I met my wife in Los Angeles. We have one son, he's in finance.

I started writing in 2017 and have this series planned out (kind of). I think my imagination gets a little carried away, as I've been told to remove a few things.

I have this one reviewer, out of a dozen, that is very eager to explain his ideas. I told him I'll need to credit him in a future book with some basic character developments. His ideas are pretty good. His name is Enrico and he's an NYPD first grade detective. Just to give you perspective, NYPD has around 40,000 officers and employees and there are only 200 first grade detectives.

So, stay tuned. It's going to get very hot in here!

Another fast paced book by William Cain, Mr. Jones doesn’t disappoint. Mr. Jones is the sequel of William Cain’s first novel Mrs. Jones, the story is gripping and the believable characters have the reader marching along to find out the conclusion of who is the killer. I suspected who the killer was at the end of the first book and was right. I won’t share that information because it would ruin the story. I’m interested to see the direction the story takes in the next of three series. Definitely worth the read!

I do like to read books in order and the author advises we do so on this occasion. Mr Jones is book 2 in the Adelaide Henson series.
I do like the fact the author has listed the characters again at the beginning of book 2. As although I read the 2 books in quick succession it was a good reminder especially with some of the lesser-known characters in the book and the ones with more that 1 name. However, the author does recap on certain events, and I feel that the book could be read as a standalone.
Reading this book was like reading about people you have just met and start to get to know them, where more details unfold as you get further and further into the book. The author keeps you wanting to read more until all your questions are answered. I enjoyed reading the book, the characters are believable and intense at times. Even the friendships that build are believable as they themselves seem to be just as surprised. Can’t wait to read more in the series.

I received a free copy of this book from the author. Having finished Mrs Jones, the first book in the series, I was keen to continue the story and thus book didn’t disappoint. I absolutely loved it. It was great finding out more about the characters and their development within the plot. Nice twist at the end. The book flowed really well and was over too soon! Can’t wait for book 3. Highly recommend.

I went straight into book 2 after finishing the first part. Still not my genre, but I'm invested now. I enjoyed this half of the story more, and found the conclusion quite satisfying. Also, Helen was the MVP. Her character was great, and the bit with Ulrich was delightful.
Tomorrow, book 3.

In Mr. Jones, William Cain builds on the events of Mrs. Jones with a deeper, more psychological narrative that shifts the lens onto the manipulations and madness surrounding Ken Jones—a man who has carefully reinvented himself, but whose monstrous past continues to surface. The story begins not with action, but with a haunting dreamscape as Reggi Thomas battles inner demons and past trauma. Her violent nightmare of being hunted by her abusive ex-husband ends with a horrifying twist: the man chasing her morphs into Ken. From this moment on, the tone is set—more introspective, more disturbing, and more emotionally raw than the first book.

Ken, still hiding under the surface of suburban charm and retirement wealth, weaves himself deeper into Reggi’s life while continuing to deceive those around him. The FBI investigation persists, and Detective Adelaide Henson remains a strong but subtle presence, tightening the net. Adelaide’s role becomes more methodical than central this time, allowing the psychological unraveling of Reggi and the cunning of Ken to take center stage.

Cain’s writing favors character depth over breakneck pacing. The chapters dig into Reggi’s fragile mental health, her strained relationship with her children, and her dangerous trust in a man readers know cannot be trusted. Flashbacks and spiraling thoughts blend with present-day manipulation and gaslighting, painting a stark portrait of a woman isolated and unraveling under the weight of grief, guilt, and longing. The narrative is slower, darker, and more focused on emotional tension than external action.

Mr. Jones is best suited for readers who appreciate psychological thrillers and character-driven mysteries. Fans of Lisa Jewell’s Then She Was Gone, Gillian Flynn’s Sharp Objects, or the TV series Big Little Lies will find a familiar emotional cadence here: women fighting to be believed, secrets cracking beneath the surface, and a sociopath whose mask is starting to slip. Cain has written a quieter but more intense installment, where the mystery lies not just in what happened—but in what someone is pretending didn’t.

Mr. Jones is the sequel to Mrs. Jones, the first novel in the series by William Cain.
The story progresses as the search for Mrs. Jones' killer continues.
New relationships are formed, and more people are introduced, building upon the established world inhabited by our protagonist, the no-nonsense Addie Henson.
As with the first book, the author lists all the important characters at the beginning and frequently recounts important plot points or relationships between people to refresh the reader's memory.
Some of the actions depicted in the book are graphic, but this is in keeping with the understanding it is a story involving, cops, the Mod, and illegal activities.
The story is well thought out with lots of twists and turns and the more I read, the more I kept wanting to read.

**Minor typo in Chapter 15, page 169. The name Abby is written, where it should be Addie.**

*I received a free copy from the author after receiving the third book in the series through Voracious Readers*

I loved this book! I enjoyed Mrs Jones, the first in the series, which I read immediately prior to this one, but enjoyed this one even more. Having the investment in the story after finishing the first book meant that this book was much easier to get into. All of the characters gained so much more depth and I love all of them, even the bad guys. You definitely need to have read the first book in order to understand everything that's going on and I highly recommend that anyone wanting to read this book starts with Mrs Jones to get the full experience. I love how the author gradually drops hints as to who the murderer is while simultaneously still keeping you guessing until they are ready to reveal all.

I would like to thank Mr. Cain for providing me with a copy of this book so I could write a review.

I enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and an easy read but it was very entertaining. I really liked Addie's character. She had to be tough being a police officer but it was nice to see that she was a human being and had other emotions. I was sad to see how things worked out for Reggie. I knew something was going on with her character but it wasn't completely what I had though it was. I would recommend this book.

Outstanding AS ALWAYS!

William Cain does a magnificent job of detailing the characters and all of their characteristics. I am currently on the 5th book of this series and I absolutely do not want it to end. I could read this series over and over. There is suspense, love, empathy, etc. I truly hope I can get the rest of his books autographed and maybe meet him one day. Biggest fan right here!!

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
I’m sorry to say that even though the premise of the storyline was appealing, it didn’t live up to expectation.
The relationship between Addie, the 2 hit-men and the head of a large crime family although newly retired is implausible.
The dialog and at times the writing is poorly expressed.

There is a lot going on in this book, so I'm not going to do much of a setup.
But think about 80 year old mothers, cops, crime families, Asheville NC, weddings, love, murders, revenge, hit men and women, Heritage Hills, and you have a pretty interesting story.

I did not enjoy this book as much as #1 and 3. Keeps you guessing until the end as to who was the murderer though.
