He needs a wife. She needs a miracle. Neither of them needs this magnetic connection they can’t deny. Let the Pleasure Wars begin . . .
Just so it’s clear, I’m not the kind of woman who sleeps around. And I’m especially not the kind of woman who’d ever sell her body for money. At least—that’s not who I used to be. Now, I’m getting on my hands and knees at the orders of the stranger I suddenly call, husband. I’m ashamed of what I’m doing. It’s dirty. Wrong. Twisted. And I refuse to acknowledge how good it feels. Especially in front of him. But we’re stuck together for one year. He has needs. Kinky. Dark. Depraved needs. And he wants me to be the one to fulfill them. For half of his inheritance—I’ll do it—but if he think’s I’ll be his sweet little submissive, he’s in for the shock of his life . . .
SCROLL UP AND ONE CLICK The Dom’s Deal, part one in a tantalizing dark romance trilogy, The Pleasure Wars.
This book is amazing. I've never considered myself to be into BDSM, but after reading this it's definitely up for consideration. The chemistry between Killian and Ashlyn is some of the best I've ever seen in romance, and I couldn't put this down. It's the kind of book I'm going to be yelling at all my friends to read because it's just so ridiculously good. When can I get more??
Audiobook,,,Gah! I knew it wasn't long enough to do the story justice. Please note that I hate series that have a continuation but I read and listen to them because I know the story is often worth it. The upside is that this wasn't a heart pounding cliffhanger. The downside is that I NEED MORE! STAT! I enjoyed the characters and the direction of the story. I look forward to what comes next. I enjoyed the narrators, too.
Wow! What a story. I never expected this. I can't wait to read the next story and I hope the conclusion to their relationship. Will she finally give in to and accept her needs. She deep down in a submissive. To all the genre lovers, don't miss out on this story.
I read some reviews the author, Harper West, has received for some of her other work prior to reading The Dom’s Deal. This isn’t something I normally do. Especially as some of them were a little critical. So, I decided to get this book because I was intrigued.
The introduction from the author didn’t set a great start to the book. When I read a book, I read it, from cover to cover, and that includes all the copyright information and information from or on the author. For there to be spelling mistakes in the authors greeting before chapter one, was a little off-putting and it sort of set the tone for the whole book.
Ash is a waitress at a coffee shop, and in college. But it’s hard for her to keep up with her rent. Handsome rich guy comes into the shop and asks her out.
Killian’s (spelling mistake – dinner instead of diner) mother and father had an arranged marriage – correct amount of money and from the right gene pool. Killian was expected to do the same – but he wanted to pick who became his wife, and decided on the girl from the coffee shop because she provided him with a challenge. (Little mistakes throughout are a little off-putting)
When he asks the coffee shop girl to dinner, she meets him there. But she knows there’s some sort of catch attached and gets straight to the point before they even order their meals. He lays it on her that he wants her to marry him, for one year, because his parents had divorced long ago and his father had put his inheritance away for him to access (more like keep it away from his mother) after he’s been married for a year. But she was expected to do “wifely duties”, which included domination and submission. Ash refused, and left.
When Ash is backed into a corner after losing her second job, and therefore the money that came along with it, she’s forced to re-evaluate the agreement Killian had offered her when there was a contract in her letterbox when she got home. She agrees and signs the contract.
Okay, so now this book is beginning to get interesting. Part of Ash’s “wifely duties” is to submit to Killian. Her fire is a challenge. Things are warming up. We have a hot oral scene where she dares Killian to force her to her knees, then comes on her face, just to see how angry she would get.
Then Killian offers to watch her get herself off and she asks what would happen if she punches him in the face. It was a really hot scene ruined by some poor mistakes that took away the heat level for me. None of us are perfect, but my God, this author really needs an editor!
Something is bugging me. When Killian and Ash are married, he takes her out – to his “club”. Now, Ash has been painted as a vanilla – who knows nothing about his lifestyle, yet, when she’s in the club, she knows to call a beautiful woman in red a Domme. I think back to when I knew absolutely nothing about the lifestyle, and I definitely didn’t know a female dominant was called a Domme – until I learned about it. For her first visit, as Killian hadn’t yet told her anything about the club, not even on the ride there, it just irked me.
I have another problem. Taking her back to his apartment after leaving the club, he takes her into his playroom, has her strip and has her lay on a spanking bench where she is tied down. At no point did they discuss a safeword, yet she clearly “thinks” about the safeword being one of two things that could get her out of being bound and “trapped”. Just another thing that irked me.
When Killian has lunch with his mother, they trade barbs and insults, she gets on his case about not being married, and says he’s like his father, unmarriageable. He didn’t tell her he was married, albeit only a one-year arrangement, because he didn’t want his mother digging into Ash’s background and going through her life like a dose of salts.
Killian gets in a bad mood, and tries to right his mood by going to the club and playing with a willing sub, but that didn’t help. He arrives, unannounced and uninvited, to Ash’s apartment. Ash becomes jealous of him going to the club and playing with someone else. But Killian does take Ash into her bedroom where there are no toys, no props, just her and him, and they are finally totally naked and make love.
Well, it abruptly ends at 94%. What the heck just happened? Ash has lunch with a work colleague she hasn’t seen for a while because she’s (the colleague) so pregnant, and it just ends. Is there a book 2? The Pleasure Wars Book 1 gives the impression there will be a book 2, but nothing at all is mentioned about it. *Throws hands up in the air*
All in all, the story line was good, Killian sort of grew on me, and Ash was portrayed as a strong woman who has fire in her belly. She’s not a pushover, but finds herself willing to bend (after an initial balk almost each time) to Killian’s will.
In my opinion, this book was just getting good. And I absolutely hate the way it just ends so abruptly. And the mistakes that litter the story peeved me off. I have two other books on my Kindle by Ms West that I’m not sure about reading now - they may just frustrate the heck out of me.
Listen, the story's not bad, and the characters are fairly well developed, but man does this book really need an editor! And if the author actually paid one, she should get her money back because this thing is rife with errors! Too many for it to be acceptable for her to ask people to pay money to read it!
There were errors that I really hope were errors and not just ignorance, like writing 'passed' when it should've been 'past' (please say an author actually knows that those two aren't interchangeable), and writing 'into' when it should clearly be 'in to,' and 'of' when it should be 'for.' Then there were typos, sentences with missing words, sentences with extra words in them that didn't belong, incorrect punctuation, like periods when there should've been question marks, and double punctuation like two sets of quotation marks in a row. There were paragraphs that contained two separate characters speaking when clearly a new paragraph should be started whenever someone new starts talking. There were many instances where I couldn't tell what was going on, whether what I was seeing was a typo, or the author got confused, or maybe did some editing and didn't reread things after making changes. These things included using 'my' when it should've been 'her,' 'he' when it should've been 'she,' 'the' when it should've been 'then,' 'in' when it should've been 'end,' 'submissive' when it should've been 'submissives,' and on and on and on! And don't even get me started on the staggering amount of times the syntax was just so bad that sentences were confusing or just horribly awkward to the point it was distracting and broke up the flow of reading.
I would easily believe that nobody actually edited this book at all and Harper West simply wrote it and loaded it directly up to Amazon without hiring an editor or even reading through it herself. There were thay many problems with it! I'm actually debating whether or not I even want to read the second book. I do kind of want to find out how things end for Killian and Ash, but man, all these editing problems drive me absolutely crazy! It really interferes with my enjoyment of the book and pulls me out of the story when I encounter them. When I read, I like to get sucked into the book and be immersed in the world and the characters and what's happening to them, and these errors don't allow me to do that. Not when there's this many of them!
Harper West has my attention! What an intriguing start to this story, and fantastic characters. Killian needs a wife in order to gain access to his trust fund. Ashlyn is struggling to make her rent. What better deal than to marry him for a year and come out financially secure? But the conditions may cause a little issue. Ash has to be willing to satisfy her husband. And his tastes are a little on the dark side. Will she be happy and marry him? These two are amazing characters. Killian is complex. He knows what he likes, and won't stand for less. But I loved seeing his vulnerability. It makes him real. Ashlyn is so strong and determined. She has an end goal. While their marriage is a means to an end, the chemistry is off the charts. Loved the start of their journey and I can't wait to see where West takes us. Yes, it does end on a slight cliffhanger, so will be grabbing book 2 when it's released!
A book like this needs a team of narrators that tell a story, and then pull us into the darker world. Lacy Laurel and Scott Rider do just that! Laurel is able to give Ashlyn a slight innocence to her voice, but also lets us feel her need to be with Killian. She adds some perseverance in as well, but it's underlying eagerness that caught my ear. Scott Rider is perfectly cast as Killian. He has an air of class in his voice, very calming, yet demanding and he creates the perfect sound for the dom in Killian. They give a great performance.
this was just okay. i don't particularly like the fmc; i need authors to figure out that this whole sassy archetype thing is so bad and annoying to read. i am begging at this point.
the hero is also very smirky, i'd be more into him if he were more dominant and no-bullshit. if he had put his foot down and put the heroine in her place i think i could have come around to the both of them.
anyway-- nothing really happened? they met, he propositions her, she's bratty and kind of mean, and he thinks it's charming. 🤷♀️ OH. and the entire reason for their [spoiler 🤐] fake marriage doesn't make any sense. he's already an "idle" millionaire, and he admits that he'll be able to double his half of the trust without any issues. so... what's the point? i could understand if it was a pride thing or a principle-of-the-thing situation but that doesn't really seem to be the case. i just don't really see why the money would be such big deal to him, if he's already rolling in the dough as it is. idk man, it's a shaky premise at best. and there's absolutely no reason for her to hate him as much as she //wants// to. i guess the author was going for an enemies to lovers thing but just decided a motive wasn't necessary lol.
A great start to a new series by Harper West - The Pleasure Wars. I really liked how the BDSM world is introduced in this read / listen. I love these characters too - Killian and his poor lil rich boy. I love how accepting and adaptable he seems to be so far. Ash is a wonderful character too - so defiant and determined. The two make a wonderful mix. Overall I really loved the story line and it has good flow as well. I did however think that the ending was somewhat abrupt. I can be a stand alone but it does leave you wanting more so I'm eager for book 2 - The Dom's Rules. I also was not overly in love with the female narration, there's just something about the tone that comes off wrong for me - it's not bad, just not great - but I loved the story too much to let it bother me.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read
I was expecting more. Kilimanjaro and Ash they definitely have the chemistry going on, and they grapple back-and-forth, but they are just using each other for their own means. Ash starting to come in to more of her sexuality and being introduced to the lifestyle that Killian is accustomed to. Killian is surprisingly gentle at times and I think he starting to realize that he could have feelings for her. Or at least when he seeks out another woman other than his wife, since she doesn’t make it difficult for him to get what he wants, he feels like it’s not enough of a challenge, so he’s not satisfied. Part of me doesn’t want to continue the series because I feel like it’s gonna be hard for the author to make it so they have a deeper connection other than just purely sexual. I’m wondering how the author is going to possibly turn it around since it’s a trilogy.
She’s a family girl who is broke and on the edge of being homeless if she can’t find money for her rent. She also thinks BDSM is perverse. He’s a rich successful young man who has plenty of money, isn’t close to his family and loves BDSM.
Killian is due to get a big inheritance but on one condition - he finds a wife. Overhearing Ash discussing her current financial plight he spots an opportunity and makes her a proposition- marry him for a year and he will split his wealth.
The marriage comes with a contract that includes providing the sexual role too and whilst Ash protests that she isn’t in to BDSM Killian is a master at proving her wrong.
I enjoyed part one in this series as we see the relationship develop and them grow closer. At times it felt like Ash protested too much and Killian seemed ignorant to the world outside of his own but the author explored these aspects well.
I love the theme of the book and it is definitely HOT to read, but every couple of pages there’s typos that stop me dead in my tracks…. Misspelled words, the lady in the leather shop was called “him” instead of her, bad grammar, “him they” multiple times typed together…. It was just a LOT of errors that paused the flow of the reading. It also ended horribly. Like no ending at all. Most series end in a way that gives you a tad bit of closure to something while still letting you look forward to the second book. She might as well have ended in the middle of the sentence.
I am off to go read book two though. I’m hoping the heat and spice continue but with a bit better grammar and editing.
So I stopped 50% through….I hate not finishing, but I just couldn’t stop thinking about the “millionaire” was nothing like a millionaire. You had to buzz up to get to his apartment, he is willing to get married for only 25 million dollars, he gives the hostess $20 for a more private booth, no paps following him around, wasn’t surprised he wasn’t recognized by her, and so much more. It would have made more sense if he was a normal wealthy guy wanting that amount of money. And the girl, she is just bratty and not nice at all. She is rude to him right away and I don’t understand why. I would have kept reading if these things didn’t distract me so much.
Holy cow this book was 🔥🔥🔥! The scenes were so freaking hot. I loved the story plot but...*Possible SPOILERS* Ok so Ash kinda got on my nerves. I get she doesn't get the BDSM lifestyle but to keep saying Killian is perverted got old quick. It was insulting i guess. Idk it just didnt sit right with me. It kinda of reminds me how people who don't understand the lifestyle leave negative reviews on books instead of just moving on lol. Over a really great book that will have you definitely HOT & BOTHERED!
Ash is struggling. She's having trouble paying her rent, bills, and she's working 3 jobs. Killian is uber rich, but in order to get his inheritance from his dad he needs a wife for at least a year. Killian's been showing up at The Jumping Bean - Ash's job for a while...he's intrigued by her. When he overhears her money woes, he makes her an offer she can't possibly refuse, or can she? 1/2 of 50 million for a year can do a lot for her, her friends, and her family, but is she willing to submit to the Dom?
Killian is on the hunt for a makeshift wife to last 12 months so he can get to his trust fund, and Ashlyn is a college student.
Working several part time jobs, barely paying her rent and just scraping by with her college workload Ashlyn is feeling the pressures of trying to make it on her own. Finally taking a co-worker up on her offer to unload, Ashlyn just spills all of her issues. While it does make her feel marginally better that she isn't carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders any more, the crazy hot customer that comes up to the counter makes her a bit uncomfortable.
Agreeing to the customers crazy request for a dinner date, Ashlyn shows up at the restaurant more or less to get a good meal. When she hears the true motivates for Killian's invite she's not exactly happy.
While reluctant, Ashlyn agrees to Killian's proposal...what she doesn't think is that she was actually going to start liking the guy...
Oh God. This is amazing read. So sexy, steamy, hot. The way Harper west describes the scene are so visual. I so wanted to switch with Ash as some point. Yes Killian is a vooky bastard at times. Teasing her driving her nuts and yet they chemistry works so good together. If you a fan of BDSM, hot billionaire mixed with a strong, dominant at times bitchy female fighting who has the upper hand than that's a book for you.
UGH I was so rooting for this to be a good book in the first 20 pages but i was dissapointed. I HATE books that end in the middle of the story like this. Its not a cliffhanger but its like the author just got tired of writing. Anyway the spicy was frequent but i didnt think it was very well written. I didnt feel much chemistry between Ash and Killian. Maybe ill read the second one but probably not
I really wanted this to be good—especially since it was my first read of 2026—but… nope. The ending was honestly the most frustrating part: not a cliffhanger, just an abrupt stop that made the whole book feel unfinished, like the author clocked out early. The spice was frequent but forgettable, and I felt basically zero chemistry between Ash and Killian. Overall, this was a solid “meh” for me, and I won’t be continuing the series.
The storyline is very good. Ash however was kind of hard to relate to. She is very judgmental and kind of rude. Yes, the story does end in a cliffhanger so we haven’t really seen her grow very much at all. Killian is a fun and interesting guy that has a great personality. The story is well written and the flow of the story is good. It is a good read.
Ashley knows what she has to do so she did not have to give up her dream of finishing her education. Killian is a dark person. His personality is close to a sadistic. Must be in control. He chooses people he think he can control. Ashley for as young as she is, no one will control her regardless of the money.
This is an interesting story. Ash and Killian has started their new agreement and it's interesting to see how they are progressing. I wonder what will happen next. I'm not good at reading Cliffhanger stories because I hate to wait on the next but all 3 books are out so I can read them to get to the conclusion.
I normally don't like multi part stories, but the first book is pretty good. I can't wait to see how they get on in the second book... But I expect book 3 will be where they fall in love. Not that they aren't starting to care about each other already.... It was very good the first book. Hard to put down.
I hate it when I’m reading along, go to turn the page expecting a new chapter and the book is over! Grrrr. This book was awesome, though. The guy is great. Really hilarious and kinky. The girl isn’t stupid and I really like that. I would recommend. I’m even going to get the second book which I rarely do.
I was wanting a great bdsm story to read and I had bought this book a while back and I'm sure glad that I did 😃. So far I've really enjoyed this story, I just wish that I had read this before 😊. Thanks so much Harper, I can't wait to read more of this series 🤓.
Be aware this is 4 short stories of this couple. Too much humiliation and you can do others if you wish. I'm on the fourth to see how it ends. I find him just a sad selfish rich boy and while she will benefit she isn't using him for that per se. Just not good but I wanted to finish to see the end.
Guidebook was good but it was a cliffhanger. I will check out the pride of the next one. This does have bdsm. In it so beware of you do not like that kind of read. I like the characters described in the book. Smart and tiff lady but down on her luck .
Ash is not having the best life. Money problems could send her back home. Someone overheard, Killian. He has a solution to the problem. Marry him so he can get his inheritance. They make a deal. But can Ash survive it.
A good read for people who are in to the series recommend highly can't wait for the next one of the series a really enjoyable read but quick shaping up to be a enjoyable series must read the next one of the series
Really enjoyed this book. First one by this author I’ve read and looking forward to reading the next in the series. Killian and Ashlyn’s arrangement is mutually beneficial but they are starting to find it more than they are both willing to admit
