The Sea Monster's Mate #1

The Sea Monster's Mate

Rate this book

Eric Baird made the decision to abandon modern conveniences and his prejudiced family for a simple island life. He has a small cabin and a lagoon all to himself and, though he's sometimes lonely, he's mostly relieved that he can finally be free.

But one lazy afternoon swim takes a dangerous turn when a cramp has Eric struggling not to drown. Suddenly, someone saves him, and he's ever so grateful...until he sees who it is.

Tyfodorus is a Cecaelia who has a rather human upper body and a definitely squid lower half. As if a mersquid in his lagoon isn't enough to knock the socks off Eric, Ty lets him know they're here to breed. Would Eric be the host to Ty's six eggs? Pretty please?

Eric gets to know Ty and agrees, resulting in some amazing sex and six little highly intelligent, totally adorable hatchlings. As they adjust to living as a family in the lagoon, they also have to understand just how genetically compatible they are, deal with a shipwreck survivor, and make plans for their future together.

This 36,000-word/160-page book has a sweet and sexy instalove story with tentacles in naughty places, low angst, some mpreg-ish moments, and a bunch of cute alien babies with an HEA ending.

So this story is kinda weird. I tried to come up with a more descriptive word, but I think weird fits, along with sweet, cute, kinky, and sexy.

After Ty saves Eric from drowning, Eric and Ty fall very much in love, despite Eric being a human male and Ty being Cecaelia (human on top with octopus-like tentacles on the bottom).

And the things Ty can do with their tentacles are ... wow, just WOW. I'm gonna admit I am very jealous of Eric.

The hatchlings are absolutely adorable, and I like how the author created a whole world for the Cecaelia (who are not sea monsters, by the way).

I would have liked some tension or danger, but I enjoyed this story nonetheless.

P.S. I filed this book under the M/M genre, but technically Ty is a hermaphrodite who uses they/them pronouns, as they can produce eggs and also have a big (two feet to be precise) cock that shoots sperm.

Eric is taking a long sabbatical on a semi-deserted island and imagine his surprise when he comes across Ty who saves him from drowning? It’s no big deal that the guy is half tentacles right?

They form a friendship and then things get frisky!

This is quasi reminiscent of Earth Fathers Are Weird so if you loved that then this light and fluffy story about unconventional pairings and the oh so cute family they make should float your boat quite nicely. Enjoy!

Everyone who knows me know that I can’t really resist a good tentacle story. Lol 😛 That being said, I knew I was going to like this little story because obviously, tentacles 🐙😂 However, I really didn’t expect I would love this book that much. 😳 It was so good and romantic I am really hoping the author would turn this into a series. 😍

Eric has sworn off the civilization. He’s done with being polite, trying to fit in with everything and everyone. Basically, he has no bullshit left to give. So he purchased a private island with his trust fund and decided to live like a hermit and enjoy being an islander. And then, Ty came like a knight with shining armor or rather more like a knight with lots of tentacles. Ty saved Eric from becoming the sea fodder but Ty also desperately wants something from Eric. He wants to breed with Eric and him to become his host. Will Eric agree and become the lover and coparent with Ty?

You might think it’s all smut but it is not. Despite having lots of sexy time, *wink wink* 😉 there’s a very solid storyline and an intriguing and fresh world building. Not only I was rooting for Ty and Eric the whole time, I fell in love with every character in this story. The supporting characters are also amazing and the offspring of Ty and Eric are seriously so fricking cute! 😍🥰 Plus lots and lots of hot, sexy tentacles action! 🔥🔥🔥 Oh yea, Shin so likey. I loved the ending and everything but there are still a few unanswered questions even after the happily ever after so I’m desperately looking forward to next book in the series. At least I hope there will be one. Recommended to everyone and anyone who likes their romances with lots of extra appendages! 😛😘

ETA: Read this through again tonight for reasons and gahhhh I still love this. If you're new to Delaney Rain, this is where you should start. This one and the alien mate one!

OMG - so yes, this book has all of the kinky tentacle loving that you could want, but what I wasn't expecting was how ADORABLE and sweet this story is!

I love how consensual it was (let's face it, you don't always get that in tentacle stories) and how sweet Ty was. I loved the world building thrown in, the history of the Cecaelia and how they work biologically. Everything felt grounded in real, which is important to me even when I'm reading something as crazy as tentacles.

And OMG I loved the babies. So incredibly cute, so different in personalities, and I loved their curiosity and sweetness.

The only thing that was missing for me was maybe a bit more insight into Eric's past and some resolution there. We are given a bit of info as to what drove him to buy a private island and escape from society, but I wish there could have been something else there? Something to prove to his family that he was better than OK and didn't need them. I loved the other characters too, and that ending was so, so sweet.

REALLY hope there is more from this author! Well written debut, highly recommended if you're looking for something a bit...different!

My first tentacle sex story...

Not 100% sure but I might be hooked! What a truly heartwarming love story, with plenty of humor and fun. But also great storytelling and world building. Gotta say the sex in this one took some getting used to, but the emotional side of things made it possible.

Sweet and Sexy

Holy Tentacles Batman , I want a Sea Monster of mine own ! LOL 😄😁😂😜

The Sea Monster's Mate|Delaney Rain my first book by this author , is a refreshing, imaginative and quirky tale that's written in an über sweet , playful and humorous tone and style; with plenty of smutty , sexually explicit , hot AF tentacles sexy times.

Eric and Ty have lots hot tentacles sex and eventually are the parents of many cute , wiggily , little Cecaelia babies.

Fun, silly , zero angst and zero drama , high heat and entertaining story.

I love it when they do naughty things with their Tentacles 🤭

This story was so ooey gooey!! I had so much fun reading it. Their lil family had me goofy smiling the entire time. They were such good parents.

The epilogue had me tearing up
38 hatchings 🥹

"If I stick my dick in there and it gets dyed black, everyone will know where I’ve been."

Awww, you made me ink.

The Sea Monster's Mate could not be any cuter. Seriously, gush-worthy, lovable, adorable, cutest of them all.

After being betrayed by his family & lover Eric Baird finds himself hiding out on his private island, basking in the seclusion and peace of mind, when he's rescued by Tyfodorus from near-drowning incident.
Tyfodorus is the sweetest. A giggling and endearing Sea Monster , though he doesn't identify as such. He's a hermaphrodite alien mersquid with turquoise skin and tentacles.
Eric and Ty are so incredibly adorable together. Sweet kisses, cuddling, family underwater adventures.
This entire story just filled me with happiness.

5 beautiful, glorious, heart filled stars <3
Definitely recommend to anyone who's in the mood sweet story with insta-love, low angst, male pregnancy ( cutest little mesquid babies), feel-good and not to forget excellent erotic scenes ;)

Another first here!
My first tentacle romance and this was even better than the other two novellas I read from Delaney Rain. I can say this is my favorite with sweet main characters and adorable baby mersquids that are really smart.

This had a bit of instalove (which I’m super okay with), special MCs and cute baby mersquids, smoking hot tentacle loving with lots of consent, earth-friendly practices, and no rushed endings with plenty of detailed ever afters.

Books 1.5 and 1.6 can be found on the authors' website and both are just so precious, painting a world I won’t mind coming back to plus characters you’d recognize from this book. This author has a way of making these “monsters” so romantic you’d want your own Sea monster mate!🦑❤️

Sweet, cheesy, unseggsy, mediocre tentacle p*rn. Not very smutty. I read it in class and didn’t even blush. That says something 😂😂 .

Too sweet for my liking. Eric got betrayed by his lover and outted in the media so he decided to purchase an island and live in isolation (he’s a trust fund baby). He becomes h*rny so he masterb*tes in the sea on a friggin chair 😭😃. Eric decides to go for a swim swim but then his legs got cramped. So just when he thought he was going to drown, a blue tentacle man comes and save him. Half man half octopus. The mm2 (octopus man) is sweet and quite innocent. He needs to find a host to reproduce and wants Eric to be the host because he couldn’t do it with a pig 🐖 because he felt bad for it.

What I didn’t like:

I didn’t like how the author use the pronoun “they” for the mmc2. Shouldn’t it be “he” or something? I thought it was used for the tentacles but the author kept using the word “they” even when referring to the mmc2.

“But Ty shook their head. “Not yet,” they whispered. “For now, kiss me and touch me, too.”

Thoughts on the book

The smut is just average. I thought it was going to be steamy but it turned into an innocent tentacle seggs
The characters were also average too
The kids were kind of cute
The keep having seggs on the chair in the sea 🌊. I felt bad for the chair lmao. Should be covered with old moss and fungi by now.

A very fluffy read but too sweet for me. Broken hearted Eric seeks solitude on his own private island and lagoon. After almost drowning, Tyfodorus (a rather well endowed alien cecaelia) comes to Eric’s rescue. Eric consequently agrees to act as the surrogate for Tyfodorus’ eggs, which results in six adorable mersquidlets and the subsequent joys of parenthood.

It was okay, but I got bored once the hatchlings were born and found myself rolling my eyes a lot. I skimmed some of the steamier moments and I couldn’t help but find the use of gender neutral pronouns irritating. Nevertheless, I’m pleased I read it. If you’re looking for a fluffy, insta-love, angst free, m/m romance with a cute HEA, this might be for you!

This was the cutest little story I've read in a while with adorable and very smart children and equally adorable fathers. Add in the fact that their numbers kept increasing as more amazing people joined the duo? Yessss! Definitely one of the best found-family tropes.

MM Romance
Mersquid Human Baby Love
4.25 Tentacle 🐙 Stars ⭐️

”From the waist down, Eric was tangled up in Ty’s many tentacles. They slid and writhed against him like so many thick cocks. Some of them wrapped around his legs, drawing his thighs farther apart, or attached to his balls to pull and squeeze. When one probed his ass like a curious fingertip, Eric thought he might lose his mind.”

To be honest, I really didn’t go into this one thinking I’d love it. Between the cover and learning this book was the author’s debut, I wasn’t expecting much and because it’s fucking tentacles that was fine with me. No one is expecting tentacle porn to be the next literary masterpiece. But like, I absolutely LOVED this and it’s the best tentacle *love* story I’ve ever read. Normally, tentacle books are just like the above quote and it’s hot but there’s no real depth to it however this was adorable and I couldn’t stop smiling. I even loved the baby mersquids, all 6 of them, and each of their personalities gave the book a deeper feel. Somehow, Ty and Eric’s relationship was believable despite their differences and I ate that shit up. This had found family, humor, hot sex scenes and egg preg with a magic elixir. I’d take some of this magic elixir because holy hell maybe then I’d feel pleasure again instead of my chronic pain holding me hostage, burying itself deep in my nerve endings and seizing up at the most inopportune times. This elixir was cool too because not only did it make everything feel better but it made it so Eric could live in the water for about a week without becoming waterlogged or needing food/water which helps when trying to incubate 6 hatchlings and being human. It also has other magical properties but too bad they can’t bottle that shit because I’d seriously buy it. You know, if this was real life and stuff. 🤣🤣 I mean look at Eric’s reaction to this shit.

“His back arched, he gave a yell that came from his soul, and the whole ocean exploded around him.” 🥵🤣

This author has some other monster goodies lurking about like some gay unicorn 🦄 book is coming out soon that I find myself wanting to read. I’m not really sure how that would work unless he’s a shifter but I’ve fallen down this monster sex rabbit hole and I’m not mad about it. 😂😂

I was perhaps 1/3 my way through the book and knew I couldn't finish it. I found the writing to be too pedestrian, the characters terribly shallow, and I simply could not stir up enough interest to keep moving through the story. Not my cuppa.

What did I read?

This was surprisingly adorable for being a love story between a human and a hermaphrodite squid/human who needs to lay eggs in something.

Needless to say, there’s a lot of mpreg in this. I probably wouldn’t have read it if I’d known, but my curiosity got the better of me once I started reading.

I really enjoyed the first 40% of this book, and would have given that part 4/5 stars.

But then the hatchlings come, and it isn't a romance, it's like this little family unit. There's so much focus on the hatchlings, but do we really need like 5 pages (literally) of them learning how to go down a slide?

And then there is the whole intermating, and finding the rest of the squid dudes, and then more humans and more squid dudes and more hatchlings, 'til I was dizzy trying to follow this weird rabbit hole of SquidManAncestry.com

I really enjoyed this book. This is also my first book in this subgenre (tentacles!) and I am definitely amused and entertained!

It was really funny to see how Eric explore the world of tentacles and totally enjoying it. It was also very entertaining to see how Eric and Ty tried to "explore" each other's anatomy especially for pleasure. Their experience of raising the hatchlings was also very dramatic (in a funny chic flick way) especially from Eric's constant worry on their safety.

But I didn't like how the development was. I feel like this book was just too short and so many things were brushed off. For example, there was no further elaboration of Eric's backstory and it was never mentioned with Ty at all. It seemed that his difficulties and "escape" from the outside world by buying an island and live in isolation no different that him being rich enough to own a private island. The emotional connection plot was just unsatisfying but it was probably because this book was very low angst (maybe zero angst?).

If you are looking for some steamy low angst sweet read, this is definitely for you.

3.5 Stars. Decent read. Lots of tentacle play. The beginning was odd, we start off with a convenient trust fund baby who owns his own island and is horny. Then he meets a sea monster who really likes his dick and they decide to have babies. My ears were burning red reading about tentacle sex and 2 foot long dicks. But the ending was weirdly sweet. I found myself wishing that this was a series and that each hatchling would have their own book. I understand this was Delaney Rain's first book and I wish them luck and look forward to future works.

I'm really not having any luck this weekend with my reads.

Hated the audio for this one, one of the voices Zachary Zaba had gets under my skin.

This is instalove, insta-mpreg some sea monster babies, and insta-horniness. No plot, and I really needed something to hold this together.

Also leave Hawai'i alone and go buy a different island to live on lmao

A fun, entertaining and super adorable read I loved every moment of this book so much. Its super sweet from start to finish, I adored Eric and Ty as they got to know each other and how their relationship worked. The chemistry and steam is incredible. Oh and the kids were great, they were hilarious and so cute. I really enjoyed seeing each of their personalities and as they grew up it was lovely.

The exploration into the Cecaelia, their history and way of life was fascinating. From their home and how they inherit memories it was interesting to learn about them, along with how the relationship worked with humans. Elixers and body temperatures, it was rather well done and just a lot of fun.

Overall I enjoyed this book so much, it's short and fast paced with an adorable romance and growing family. The epilogue was perfect! I kind of wish it had been longer, I could read more about Ty and Eric along with their family.

Fantastic and fun

Okay, I’m a sucker (ha ha) for tentacle books, and this is one of the better ones I’ve ever read. Yes, there was hot tentacle action, but there was also a charming romance, adorable babies, and a happy and hopeful ending. While the editing wasn’t perfect (things like passed/past were sometimes confused, for example), it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story. I’ll definitely be following this author and hoping for more!

Well, won't rate it, because it's probably somewhere around a 3*, but I'm very oldschool about my gay-reads, and I don't need a sudden gender pronoun change, especially not, when it's obvious, that it wasn't in the first draft. Because within the first 7 chapters there were parts, where it was rather obvious, that someone didn't proof read enough and missed some of the changed pronouns.
Sure, you can say, that this info is on the blurb, but really, you can't. The they there could just mean Eric and Ty, so ... just won't bother. How about tagging stuff like this, everyone screaming after TWs and Tags and shit ;D but this stuff gets ignored, right.
*shrug*
The smut at the beginning (u know tentacles), were okay, sadly a bit too fast over, and then we started domestic family stuff - cute, but I was already annoyed enough to not care.
Ty, the squid, was very cute tho, because of the not understanding of the human world.

I didn't read the book summary before reading. Should have known it would have EGGS. Still not my thing. Thankfully it was consensual though, and not entirely horrifying and traumatic like my previous experience with that. Did not anticipate half the book being about tentacle babies. Really should have read the summary. At least I guess my egg trauma has been soothed with some very cutesy alternative perspective but eh, still won't need more eggage after this. My reading tastes are weird enough as is.
