The book is divided into six themed weeks that lead the reader through honest self-examination, reminders of God's truth, and practical and courageous actions required to quit living stuck and start living free.

Lusko shares some of his own story, including the grief journey of losing his daughter, to paint of picture of how to walk through hard seasons without falling into the enemy's traps.

Each devotional includes a focal scripture, teaching text, a suggested prayer, and a set of action steps called "Breathe, Think, and Live."

By working through the book with intention and thought, readers allow the truth of God's Word and the truth of who they are in Christ to guide them to a better way of thinking and living.

The key, friends, is to do the work not just read the book. This is not a skimming book. It's a deep dive into what it takes to see lasting change. It's full of truth and practical action steps that only work if you put them into practice.

If you are dissatisfied with the life you are living, this book is a guide you can use to make the changes you know you need to make.

Since the Bible is my ultimate guide for right living and thinking, it's important to me that the books I read line up with the Bible. With any book, I ask God to give me a discerning mind to pick up on anything not in line with His Word.

As I read through Take Back Your Life, I found myself nodding in agreement on almost every page. I give this book my full recommendation.

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK

Take Back Your Life is a 40 day devotional journey. It helps change your way of thinking so you can live right, according to the way God want us to live. This is the most unique Devotional I believe I have ever seen. Each devotion is about different things that will help you in growing your faith. Each chapter ends with a prayer section and a Breath Grow and Think Section. In this section it reviews what you have learned, ask questions to help you better understand what you are studying.

This is not only a great Devotional, it can be an awesome Bible Study. Each has a scripture to read or memorize, the devotions are short, just a few pages, and with the Breathe, Think and Live questions it makes a perfect discussion chapter for study. If you are a Sunday school teacher, or a small group leader I highly recommend that you check out Take Back Your Life. And I really think young adults or teens would appreciate this Devotional. Whether it be for Bible study or devotions. I Give Take Back Your Life a very lighted rated Five Stars!!

A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

I write devotionals and I love reading them from others. I have quite a collection of devotional books, and I was excited to have a chance to read and review this book.

Lusko's book is encouraging and thought-provoking. It provides an opportunity for the reader to identify and reflect on what could be holding them back. Simple, relatable stories are used, and they're likely to connect with most readers in some way.

There are forty devotions, and they're divided into daily and weekly themes. These include: Look in the Mirror, Turn off the Dark, Cross the Barbed Wire, Run Toward the Roar, Be the Difference, and Think Right, Live Right.

This book is one of the best I’ve read all year and is PACKED with goodness. If you just read one book in the next 6 months - pick this one! Get it for someone you love too.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes:
- Thoughts are like trains, they take you somewhere. Instead of stopping a thought, REPACE it. You have to actively FEED the POSITIVE and STARVE the negative. You will FEEL how you speak and FIND what you seek.
- Public victory comes from private discipline.
- God loves the people in your life so much that he put YOU in their lives. He gave you a means to communicate with them so they could be better off because they encountered YOU!
- Smile and you'll eventually feel better. Your body doesn't know why you are smiling but will respond appropriately.

Do yourself a favor and GET THIS BOOK!!

Here’s the actual review:

According to the sub-title, Pastor Lusko’s book is “a 40 day interactive journey to thinking right so you can live right”. That describes the book very well. It is written as a devotional with 40 days of 10 minute readings. Each chapter is prefaced with a Bible verse and interesting commentary from Lusko’s life. At the end of each chapter is his ‘Breathe, Thank and Live section” which are personal, interactive questions for meditative thought and prayer specifically focused on changing your life.

I’ve been reading this book as a mature Christian, but have found it to be refreshing and surprisingly freeing. For all of its apparent simplicity, it resonated with me in a deep way. It has reminded me of things I knew, but had become dry and dusty. I particularly like the short but pertinent prayers that precede the questions. Taking time to breathe and think through these, even writing in the small space provided, has caused more self-reflection that I’ve done in a while. (One minor nit-pick is that the space for answering questions could be larger, as I wanted to write more than the space allowed.) Do I sound vulnerable? That would be one outcome from one of the chapters: “freedom looks like vulnerability.” Indeed, one of the statements in that chapter shot an arrow straight to my heart saying: “don’t do work that is safe” just a day after I volunteered to take on a huge project that will stretch me greatly. This book, and the spirit / Spirit in which it was written, is having an effect. And that is what Lusko intended in the first place.

As Lusko says in his preface, “this experience isn’t about checking a box, it’s about changing your life.” Like much of life, you will get out of this what you put in.

Take Back Your Life: A 40-Day Interactive Journey to Thinking Right So You Can Live Right is written by Pastor Levi Lusko. It is a three hundred page hardbound book, with thick quality paper. The font is beautiful, and each page is wonderfully inviting with truth. Each chapter is about six to seven pages, so each daily devotional will take less than ten minutes to read. The chapters start with scripture, go through a message or lesson, and ends with a prayer and a section called Breathe, Think and Live. This end of the chapter section is full of questions that you can answer for a small group study or individually.

This book is very timely for me. Many times, we battle not only our external circumstances, but also our inner critic. We endure some painful moments in life, and sometimes that can make us doubt ourselves and our faith. This amazing devotional, reminds you that you are not only loved, but valued. It turns off all of those outside voices, and invites you to lean in on what God is saying about you. It reminds you of your worth as a child of God, and not a child of this world. This book is written with a biblical truth and perspective, but it is also full of humor, history, and cultural references such as Baby Yoda and family friendly movies we know and love. It is not a prosperity devotional. There are some hard truths brought to you in a loving way. The author does a fantastic job of writing this book as if he were writing it to a friend. I would highly recommend this devotional to everyone I know.

I was given a complimentary copy in exchange for a honest review.

Potent Quotables:

Maybe, like me, you have gotten so good at listening to yourself that you have forgotten to speak to yourself

If you live with your heart out like that, there are going to be people who are going to hurt you. But we can’t let that calcify our hearts or hold us back.

The light of Jesus’ birth turned off the darkness of four things: loneliness, fear, despair, and guilt.

While we are no match for [the] satan, he is no match for God.

[Roman] emperors found that as long as people weren’t hungry or bored, their freedom could be stolen.

People will try to take a bite out of you when you dare to do something great. For many of them it will be the only taste of greatness they will ever have!

An unguarded strength is a double weakness. If you flip over any virtue, you’ll find vice on the bottom. Whatever comes naturally to you can easily become a problem for you.

It may not feel like it, but it’s a gift to be unsettled and unsatisfied because it is in those moments we can potentially find what we truly need in God himself.

When you run from things that scare you, you move toward danger, not away from it.

“The jab keeps them busy, but the cross is your power.” Boxing adage

“It’s better to win ugly than to lose pretty. The secret is to keep showing up.” Carl Lentz

Discerning God’s calling is about who you are becoming more than where you are going.

The message of the gospel isn’t try. It’s trust.

The flexibility of “I am” shows that within Jesus’ identity is room for all of your deficiency.

I am familiar with this author, but have never read anything by him until now. Take Back Your Life is a devotional type book, but that is an interactive kind of devotional.

There are 40 chapters, intended to be done over a period of 40 days. Each chapter starts out with a Bible verse, followed by the devotional part. That is followed by a short prayer, then the "Breathe, Think, and Live" part. It consists of several questions to answer, and often some actions to do.

I didn't do all 40 days, as I didn't have enough time to do them all one day at a time, but I like what I read. The book is Biblical, and if the reader answers the questions and does the exercises that are in the book, I can see it would definitely be a help. Lusko has a great and interesting style of writing, and relates a lot of personal anecdotes throughout the book. As I glanced through the parts of the book that I didn't read yet, it is obvious there is a lot of depth to the book, and it can be a valuable tool for anyone who needs to change their thinking about themselves.

Take Back Your Life: A 40-Day Interactive Journey to Thinking Right So You Can Live Right, by Levi Lusko, is a great devotional, aimed at helping you realize your worth in God’s eyes and His immense love for you.

I valued Lusko’s candor. He addressed his battles, his struggles, and especially his anguish, agony and grief when his five-year-old daughter passed away five days before Christmas. I cannot imagine the sorrow or ache or loneliness he and his family faced. However, they also triumphed and became closer to God than ever.

The story of his daughter is a small part of the whole but was a very defining part for me. It helped to put my own grief over my losses into better perspective, which I am sure will help me heal even more.

Lusko’s devotional will affect and touch a different chord in each person who reads it. There are so many nuggets to glean from this self-help book, and I’m sure each one will make an impact.

One distraction for me was the style of the breaks in the chapter. For example, in one break it appeared as if someone had written something then scribbled it out. There were also page breaks with hand-drawn images. For me these took away from the gravity and solemnity of the message. I did enjoy the references to current culture. Allusions to movies, music, television shows and other contemporary, cultural references brought the devotional themes to life.

I received Take Back Your Life: A 40-Day Interactive Journey to Thinking Right So You Can Live Right through FrontGate Media. However, I was under no obligation to write a review.

Are you looking for a way to get free you of these things that hold you back and keep you from being all God created you to be? If so, then Levi Lusko’s new book Take Back Your Life: A 40-Day Interactive Journey To Thinking Right So You Can Live Right might provide you with the spiritual infusion and help you need!

Take Back Your Life is a 40-day devotional, Bible study filled with biblical lessons that are designed to move you away from fear, paralysis and faulty thinking and guide you towards becoming the best version of yourself you can be.

What I like most about this book is the practical biblical application the author provides through the daily prayers, journaling and spiritual exercises he provides for you to “breathe, think and live”.

If you prefer writing that appeals more to your intellect than books that play to your emotions, than this book is for you. This book lends itself well to both personal and group study.

If you’re ready to move into a new season of life, then Take Back Your Life will help you to get there.

I love devotionals and I love journaling, so I was thrilled to receive this insightful book. Take Back Your Life is thought-provoking and motivating. It helps me identify and reflect on what might be holding me back and propels me forward. The book is presented in a conversational tone and the stories are simple, yet meaningful.

The 40 devotions are divided into daily and weekly themes and contain Scripture verses, affirmations, stimulating questions, and more. The little doodle images throughout the book inspire my creativity and prompt me to journal thoughts, ideas, or prayers. I especially enjoy the Breath, Think, And Live sections, with introspective questions that make me to delve deeper into the process.

This is a sturdy, thick, hardback book with an attached ribbon bookmark. The Scripture quotations are taken from various Bible versions (NKJV, ESV, KJV, The Message, NASB, NIRV, NIV, NLT, RSV, and TPT.)

I received a complimentary copy of this book.

This journal will get you to stop, think, and then act upon your new mindset. It helps you to identify the things that are holding you back, and then gives you the tools to overcome them. I like how laid-back the narrative is....less self-help, and more friend-with-coffee. Since it is divided into forty bite-sized chunks, complete with fun doodles to keep you entertained, it is easier to tackle a little bit each day. Whether it takes you forty days, or forty weeks, doesn't matter. Just that you keep moving forward!

I picked up this book because after losing friends and family during the last 2 years, I needed to hear other stories about dealing with grief. The Luskos books about losing their young daughter unexpectedly were highly recommended. Levi's book was more challenging to read because the format literally challenges you to meditate and examine your actions everyday for 40 days. His approach everyday is very relatable. I love that he lets his nerd flag fly. I especially love all his recommended readings - many of which were secular. He also had some heartbreaking and bittersweet memories about his daughter. I appreciated his honesty about letting grief take over sometimes... I took up this book as a challenge for Lent. I didn't make it but I'm definitely going to try again next year. This book was a lovely daily companion - highly recommend.

I really like Devotional Books, they seem to give guidance in my daily devotional time. I was really excited to be able to read this one. I can honestly say this Devotional book is encouraging, thought provoking and challenges the reader to really seek God.

I really like the layout and look Take Back Your Life. The book contains 40 Devotionals, one a day for 40 days. Each day contains Scriptures, Encouraging Affirmations, and Questions to make one ponder upon. The section of Breathe, Think and LIVE is a greatpart of the book. It makes the reader really dig deep and apply scripture to your life to bring you closer to God.

Levi Lesko really created a GREAT Devotional for all Christians and new Christians alike. I HIGHLY Recommend Take Back Your Life!

In regard to revitalizing (bettering) your life, Lusko writes in such a way where honesty meets conviction. Borrowing from several examples of his own life, it is highly refreshing to read of a pastor’s insights into biblical living in the 21st century without having to “preach” or use cliche Christian terminology to convey a message.

In particular, I was moved by the entirety of this work being dedicated to his daughter, Lenya, who tragically passed away at a young age. How someone is able to undergo something so monumental, yet retain a positive mindset concerning the here and now (and future), is inspiring.

This devotional is one for those looking for religious guidance that does not discriminate or hide from the truth.

40 days ..I love that. Working on our problems, burdens, whatever is holding us down, just one day at a time, for forty days.

The author gives us fresh insight of what we may be experiencing in life and how to think differently. Bible verses are given and questions are asked after each day's lesson to guide you and give you a new way of thinking.

I'm on day 2 called Identity Crisis.

"What if you woke up every day, looked at yourself in the mirror, and proclaimed what God says about you? You are loved. You are chosen. You are called. You are equipped."

Some powerful thoughts for sure!

I love reading devotionals. I always seem to find things I am dealing with in my life in them. I come out ahead and blessed to have read it. The same goes with this good devo From each devo would start with a verse then the story. End with a prayer time and the very is a time to reflect on it. Kinda a melt down time. Loved the way it is written. In the book Levi is trying to get us to analysis ourselves to seeing what our real problem is. Through hitting it head on we find our self. I want to reread this and take my time as a study. Well written and researched.

Life cannot be perfect, and that means it may become a battle, but this book provides tips and ideas for creating a path to the life God meant for us. I love how each chapter includes insights, a Scripture reference, and a prayer along with journaling activities to help the reader focus on their own life experience.

The book contains 6 sections that include Look in the Mirror, Turn Off the Dark, Cross the Barbed Wire, Run Toward the Roar, Be the Difference, and Think Right, Live Right, I love the idea of getting up and show up. If we fail to get up, then we fail to accomplish our purpose.

Th Devotional You Need to Go Through Many Times!

Levi is an awesome pastor and author. To see someone go through the tragic death of a child, and still trust and believe GOD’s got this, is amazing in this world. I love the way he weaves his lessons with a story, sometimes at his own real-life expense. His books are raw, but encouraging. The questions at the end are thought provoking, and convicting at times, which is exactly what we need to stay on track. I recommend getting the accompanying videos, they really tie it all together fully.

I heard about this book on a podcast, thought it would be a great companion for lent and lead up to my 40th birthday. In some ways it was incredibly helpful to sift through my thinking and actions, in other ways I found this book tedious and disjointed. There are so many different metaphors, movie references, and themes that it was difficult at times to see how they connected. The questions for reflection at the end of each chapter are way too numerous and unnecessarily wordy. A decent book, and helpful, just maybe needed a little more heavy-handed editing.

This started off strong and then got a little redundant towards the end. There are a lot of modern references which will appeal to a lot of readers but did not appeal to me. I get what the author was doing and I’m sure he appealed to his audience. Modern tv and movie reference just did not resonate with me. FYI- there are many references to wolves and wolf packs. The author made it work, but know there are a lot of references.

This book was a Godsend, literally! It’s helped me gain perspective about some of the things I’ve been dealing with. Yes, I’ve had physical pain for years, but it wasn’t really the thing holding me back. My fear was what was paralyzing me and holding me hostage! But God! God directed me to this book to help me take captive these fears! And way before that, He died that I might be free! I just had to be reminded of that and step into that precious freedom!

This was a good devotional but not the best I’ve read. (That award would have to go to Lysa Terkeurst!). That being said, there were good biblical lessons to take away from these devotionals and there were a handful of really good readings that challenged me to examine my Christian walk, which is a good thing.

What a great book. Levi Lusko has endured great tragedy in his life, and was able to put it together in a way that helped him heal, and also gave him the ability to spread good words to others. Its Christian based and is better than daily devotionals. A 40 day journey with great stories, and great guidance. I really enjoyed it.

Excellent book & guide

A horrible tragedy turned upside down just as the life and ministry of Jesus Christ is used as a point in time where all perspective changed. Levi Lusko shares wisdom, scripture and humility to guide the reader into a path of Freedom from self and into the arms of God.

Pastoral heavyweight Levi Lusko brings the thunder yet again with this 40-day daily devo that shakes you and wakes you up using his humorous style of writing and pieces of his former books. Also would work great in a context of small groups.
