Mile High Happiness #2

The Best Man Problem

Rate this book

Lilly Walsh is used to keeping things buttoned-up and aboveboard. After all, the last time she hooked up with someone in a wedding party, it nearly cost her her wedding planning business. Thankfully, those rules don’t apply when she meets a handsome stranger in a hotel bar. One bad pirate joke leads to the best night of her life, but come morning, she’s got a wedding to plan.

Lincoln Reid never imagined he’d see the woman who rocked his world last night and then ran out on him ever again. But there she is, planning his best friend’s wedding with the same passion and drive that brought him to his knees. She’s adamant that wedding planner and best man can never mix, but that just means he’s got four weeks to make her see him as more than just a one-night guy. Because he’s itching for more than one night...or five, or ten…

The Best Man Problem is a fun read. Relatively short but full of fun banter. Miss Ankenman has a good sense of humor.

I do like the book very much. It has that light sweet rom com feeling. Eventhough the story is simple, the rom com makes me smile here and there.

I like it very much.

I loved this premise and was eager to settle in with a quick and fun read.

I liked Lilly and Lincoln. They’re both driven people who are loyal to their friends. They definitely had chemistry and a decent amount of conversation, but I never really saw the spark that every character talked about. Both of their inner monologues just talked about how hot and sexy the other one was. The are other characters, but no one stood out.

Plot wise it was meh. There’s loads of push and pull and while I can appreciate Lilly not wanting to get involved while Lincoln was in the wedding party, a little open communication wouldn’t have hurt anyone. Scenes, phrases, and character descriptions were repetitive and it all knocked me out of the story.

Overall, it was a quick story with a lot of potential, sadly it fell flat for me. I’m not sure if I’ll be reading any of the others in the series.

More good times with Mariah, the woman can write a great story. I didn't put this one down!
Once again Mariah outdoes herself with this comical story between uptight Lilly and a one night oops and now best man for the wedding she is planning, Lincoln.

Lilly is the detail oriented, twisted a little tight, and public face of Mile High that she partners with her two best friends. Lilly has a firm rule of not mixing business and pleasure. And doesn't she get the surprise of her life when the wedding she's currently working on and has been working with the couple bring their best men along with them to a meet. He's best friends with both the bride and groom and will be taking over their business while they're on their honeymoon. Lincoln is also the on off she had, so out of character for our Lilly.

Lincoln is enjoying his time in Colorado, getting a much needed break from the business he runs and spending time with his friends all the while doing his best to charm the bejeepers out of Lilly. While she's doing everything she can to keep him at arms length but the chemistry between these two just sizzles right off the pages. Wowza! And of course it wouldn't be normal or right without Mo chiming in with her carefree, no filter spirit encouraging Lilly to "nail that man". Balancing out the act is the Pru who does her best to give Lilly some sound advice here. Lilly has good reason to avoid any sort of contact with her clients and that past mistake seems to run her life. Mariah's gift of telling a good story infused with over the top humor is a gift to the reader. Watch how these two resolve their issues along with a little help from their friends. But will she or won't she? A must read to find out.
This was an easy breezy five slapping good stars from me.

Can one night turn into forever?
Not if these two have anything to say about it...
...but then again, the heart wants what it wants.

One of a string of recent Entangled Publishing reads I've completed and yet another to add to the stack of OMG-THIS-WAS-SO-GOOD! Grant it, this one has a bit more spice than the last one, but I can't say anything else even slightly negative about it. I adored the lead characters and their interfering (but with so much love!) friends. Getting to know them only made the connection for both them and us stronger. Their time together before the wedding party was definitely a night to remember, but the wattage of sparks flying when they were in the same room (or even thinking about each other!) was electrifying! True, I wanted to let Mo make those "special brownies" for Lincoln (such a good friend, as is Pru!) with his reaction to something in particular, but...although I don't agree with said reaction, I get where he was coming from, and I think the way Lilly handled it showed so much strength, so much growth that though stinging at the time, it was totally worth it.

Definitely a series I'm glad I came to and one I will be checking into its first release post haste! Reading recommendation for ADULT readers of Contemporary Romance due to some content.

Mariah Ankenman is becoming one of my favorite authors (& a big thanks for writing in 3rd person.)

Wedding planner Lilli hooks up with Lincoln for a one night stand, both ok with going their own way the morning after. Neither wants a relationship, Lincoln because he's still recovering from a divorce and Lilli because she got burned on love for herself because of her mother's multiple marriages. Surprise! Guess who is the best man of their current wedding? Yep, Lincoln and Lilli has a personal code of not getting involved with a member of the wedding. (There's a story there, but you're going to have to read the story.

Lilli and Lincoln have a rough path to true love but they manage to get things settled.

I enjoyed this story. It's worth the read.

The Best Man Problem by Mariah Ankenman is a delight. I really love this author's voice and her sense of humour. She has created an interesting set up with her group of wedding planners and the people they encounter. The heroine Lilly has a rule to never date anyone associated with the weddings she plans. In walks Lincoln, the best man in her latest wedding party. Her reason for staying away from people like Lincoln is valid. She was badly burned by the last "best man" she dated. As for Lincoln, he has demons too, in the shape of a cheating ex. The chemistry is there from the start, but these two fight it, and neither gives their heart easily. But when they do, we fall in love with them. Bonus: there is an awesome groveling scene in this one.

“The spark is all that matters.”

After a disastrous relationship almost ruined her and her friend’s budding wedding planning business, Lilly has sworn off getting involved with anyone associated to the wedding party. She didn’t count on her completely spontaneous one night stand, Lincoln no-last-name, turning up as the best man to her current wedding!

Yes, they instantly clicked but that night was a one and done deal. And as best man, he’s become instantly off limits. No way is Lilly going to repeat her mistakes, no matter how tempted she might be to revisit that amazing night with Lincoln.

As a new single and divorced bachelor, Lincoln isn’t looking to get serious with anyone. Thanks to his ex, Lincoln has the emotional scars that keep him wary of relationships and forming deeper emotions. But his connection to Lilly is hard to deny and the more time he spends with her, the more he finds it hard to convince himself that things are just casual.

With his best friends’ wedding fast approaching and Lilly and Lincoln’s chemistry burning hotter than ever, these two got blindsided with love.

This was a cute read that had likable characters, sweet romantic vibes from both the MCs and the secondary characters and I’d probably say it was a slow burn since after the ONS, Lilly and Lincoln keep things friendly and it gives them a chance to get to know each other outside of the bedroom. The sexual tension simmers for them all the way until the explosive reunion *fans self* and gave the story great pacing.

Memorable Moments:
Lilly’s best friend and business partner, Moira, was hilarious and snarky and really a fun character :) and then there was Kenneth and Marie. Their love story was so adorable and really added that something special to the story.

Would I recommend? This was a cute read, low drama and low angst. Definitely for the contemporary romance lovers.

Thank you so much to Net Galley and Entangled Publishing for allowing me to review this book. This book is actually book 2 in a companion series, which I regretfully didn't realize. It can be read as a standalone, but I'm sad that I didn't read book 1. That being said I will go back and read book 1 ASAP. This series follows 3 best friends who run a wedding planning business, which is something that I love! I've read a lot of series where friends own wedding companies or match making companies and it's a plot device that I absolutely adore. In this book we follow Lilly and she has a past that has left her feeling a little lonely. It causes her to have a one night stand with Lincoln. Little does she know that Lincoln is going to be the best man in an upcoming wedding that she is planning and that is a big no no in Lilly's eyes. Lincoln also has a bumpy past that leaves him not necessarily ready for a new relationship. They then proceed to have this tug of war style relationship where they both want each other, but don't want each other at the same time.

I loved this book and it was exactly what I needed to get out of a slumpy mood that I had been feeling recently. The writing style is very each to follow and get attached to. I loved following the journey of these characters. Lincoln's dad jokes made me smile and reminded me of my husband's humor. When I was only 8% into the book I texted a friend, "if this book keeps going the way it is, I'm going to give it 5 stars." Let's just say the book continued in that direction and I gave it 5 stars. I love how emotionally connected I was to the main characters and the side characters. I laughed with them, smiled with them, got frustrated with them, and cried with them. I can't wait to go buy this book physically for my shelf, go back to read book 1, and impatiently wait for book 3!

What I Loved: The back and forth banter in The Best Man Problem was adorable! I feel like the book was comical and light in just the right places and it really kept me interested.

How I Felt: I found this story to be a fun, cute romance-read. It started off with such a fun scene and I was immediately drawn into the story and interested in the main character, Lily. At times I didn’t feel quite as invested in Lily and Lincoln, but at other times, I felt their connected and was very interested. While The Best Man Problem can be read as a stand-alone, it is the second book in a series, and I think I might have enjoyed it just a bit more if I had read the first book in the series. I will go back and read the first book now because the story was fun, the writing was good, and overall, this was worth the read.

To Read or Not To Read: If you enjoy light, comical stories of romance, with some somewhat steamy scenes, this is a good book for you. You don’t need to read the first book in the series, but if you are interested in the premise, I would suggest starting at the beginning!

I was provided an advanced reader’s copy of this book for free. I am leaving my honest, unbiased review voluntarily.

Lilly and her two best friends own a successful event planning business. Due to her past she lives by a strict set of rules that include never getting with anyone in the wedding party so when the best man shows up with the bride and groom for their next event she is shocked and dismayed to find out he is the man she spent one night with.

Lincoln has been burnt by love in the past and isn’t about to repeat the experience. He enjoyed the night he spent with Lilly and not only did he regret that she was gone before he was awake but now that she is back in his life he is beginning to think that one night is not enough.

The more time they spend together they more they realize they have in common and the more the chemistry between them escalates but is it enough to overcome their pasts?

Lilly and Linc are both great characters who help each other heal from the past and the secondary characters were a great addition to the story.

✨ 4.5 stars! ✨

I absolutely adored this story. The author’s writing style flows very easily and made me connect with and care for both Lilly and Lincoln very deeply. The friendships were also fantastic and the dynamics between the different characters, really entertaining. I specially enjoyed Mo’s antics and definitely plan to read her book (which I assume will be next in the series). In summary, I found this to be a very fun, sweet and heartfelt story and I enjoyed it immensely. I would definitely recommend it to any romance reader.

I enjoyed this book by Mariah Ankenman. My first by her but not my last. I will definitely read book one in this series as I want to know more about Pru.
Lilly and Lincoln had a pretty hot night together after meeting in a bar. Little did they know they'd see each other again...when Lincoln shows up at Lilly's place of business with his friends. Lilly made an error with a wedding party member previously and she does not want to make the same mistake again. She will absolutely not mix business and pleasure. That leaves Lincoln 4 weeks to show her he can be more than a one-night stand.
I adored Lincoln and Lilly as they navigated around each other. Getting to know one another without actually dating. Loved Lilly's friendship with Pru and Mo. Oh Mo...cannot wait for her story! Lincoln's friendship and loyalty to his own friends was wonderful as well.
There was humour and friendship and, in the end, love. A thoroughly enjoyable book.

Narrated by Charlotte North.

Narrated by Charlotte North

I’m a big fan of Charlotte North’s narrations and this led me to try a new-to-me author so I can get more of her in my ears. The Best Man Problem is book two in the Mile High Happiness series but can be read as a stand alone with no problems at all.

Lilly Walsh and her two BFFs run Mile High Happiness, a wedding planning business in Denver. (I admit I don’t know much about the wedding planning business but the setup of Mile High Happiness seemed a little unusual to me in that it seems that Lilly does the actual wedding planning and the other two women run other aspects of the business.) The book starts with what I assume is the wedding of the couple who were the protagonists in book one. Lilly is a bridesmaid for her best friend and has a hot one-night-stand with a handsome man she meets in the hotel bar after the event. It’s unusual for her (not that it matters if it wasn’t) but Lilly had an amazing time and can’t stop thinking about the man she only knows as Lincoln. From their conversation in the bar, she believes he’s in town for business and isn’t staying so she doesn’t think there is any chance a relationship could come of it.

Then Lilly’s next clients come in and introduce their best man – and you guessed it: it’s Lincoln! Not only is he the best man but he’s moved to Denver after a messy divorce (two years ago) and in fact there is no barrier to a long term relationship for he and Lilly except for two things: Lilly has a strict “no dating a member of the wedding party” rule and Lincoln is soured on relationships and happy-ever-afters following the implosion of his marriage. Still, the attraction between Lilly and Lincoln is intense and they keep being thrown into one another’s orbit. Add to that a matchmaking bride and BFFs who don’t mind meddling and, as the wedding draws near, the couple are rethinking their attitudes.

I enjoyed the banter and the chemistry between the love interests and I liked the humour of the story and the general feel-good vibe of it. What I didn’t love is the conflict near the end. Lilly’s rule about not dating a member of the wedding party is as a result of a lesson hard learned and when she tells Lincoln about it, after the wedding and they’re free to explore things with each other, his reaction is pretty terrible. Lincoln’s ex-wife was a cheating cheater who cheated and he clearly has some work to do to put it behind him and be able to move on. As we all know, just because one relationship ends doesn’t mean they all do. The way he took his ex-wife’s behaviours out on Lilly was not okay with me. And, I didn’t really see him doing the work of processing his feelings so that I had confidence he wouldn’t massively overreact again. Lilly was altogether too forgiving in my view.

Still, overall, I did like both Lilly and Lincoln and I wasn’t unhappy they ended up together. It’s just that I’d have liked Lincoln to have either not freaked out the way he did or, having done so, made better reparations than a grand gesture. The man needed therapy!

Charlotte North’s narration was, of course, a delight and that made the story all the more enjoyable. Ms. North has a lovely tone and cadence to her voice generally which makes it pleasing to hear but she also delivers on character voices, emotion and humour. Her comedic timing is very good. I especially liked here that she had a distinct voice for all three of the ladies of Mile High Happiness.

The only thing I don’t love about Ms. North’s narration is a personal pet peeve when it comes to audiobooks. When there’s reference to a chuckle or a cough or similar, I want to either hear it in the dialogue or hear it described in words – but not both. She will do the “he coughed” and then make a coughing noise. Do not like. Like I said, this is a personal pet peeve and probably plenty of other listeners could not care less about it.

Most of The Best Man Problem was a lot of fun, though not without touching on some heavier topics (the bride Lilly is working with is a cancer survivor, cheating ex-partners on both sides and a problematic parental relationship) and the narration was very good. Lincoln showed his feet of clay near the end though and didn’t quite manage to convince me – though the epilogue some months later did help a little.

The Best Man Problems by Mariah Ankenman a five-star read that isn’t a problem. This is number two in the Mile High Happiness series and they can be read as stand-alone. Lilly Walsh was a character I wanted to alternately pat on the back for being a superhero and gather into a massive hug and tell her that there were people in the world who cared about her and loved her and showed her that you don’t have to be afraid of love, even when no one has shown you how. This was such a funny story, even if it did have the worst jokes, some of them were so bad they were actually funny. Who knew a pirate joke could change a life. This is a great story filled with compelling characters that you need in your life.

I love when I can relate to a book! Don’t get me wrong I read to escape and enjoy life through a new characters eyes but I also find a book that is realistic and relatable really lasts and stays with me and I found that in the pages of this beautiful story!

Lincoln and Lilly had both been burned by past relationships and were hesitant about anything more in their future but fate definitely decided to play a fun game with them! Thrust together time and time again these two found themselves forming not only a friendship but a bond that only got deeper with each second spent together; if only they could run away from their pasts then maybe forever could be a possibility again!

I loved how each the hero and the heroine had an amazing circle of friends and how brutally honest they were with each other! I think that was one of the big things that kept me reading! Plus a story about my home state/town really makes me giddy!

Lilly had hooked up with a hot stranger at the bar after her best friend Pru and Finn's wedding. Pru was also one of two of Lilly’s business partners, the other being Moe who's also her roommate, as was Pru before she married. Pru had married her best friend Finn and they had a set of gorgeous twins. Lilly realized after the intimate wedding she was lonely. Lilly wasn’t one for hookups. Prim and proper. She went to the bar after the wedding and ended up having a one night stand with Lincoln. Lincoln had just arrived in town to see some friends. Lilly believed you had to have substance, compatibility. You couldn’t just see someone and know. Love didn’t work that way. Pru and Moira were Lilly’s best friends as well as her roommates well Pru wouldn’t be anymore now but they were also her business partners in their wedding planning business. Lilly thought no pining over a one night stand that could never go anywhere. Than she had a meeting with Kenneth and Marie who she had already worked with for seven months on their wedding they were getting married in a month. They were bringing in their best man as he had came to Colorado a month early to help them. Lilly was shocked when she saw Lincoln was to be their best man. Her one and only one night stand. Lincoln was totally surprised to see the woman who had blown his mind but was already gone when he woke up. He was happy to see her. He was hoping to repeat their night together but after seeing the panic in her eyes he’d denied prior knowledge of her. It did sting a little. It seemed like Ms. Walsh didn’t want anyone to know about their liaison. Marie and kenneth had a phone call about work at their coffee shop that left lincoln and Lilly alone in her office. Lilly admitted he had been her first one night stand and he said the same thing. Lilly apologized if she hurt his feelings and Limcoln thought maybe she stung his pride but she couldn’t hurt his feelings. No woman could do that anymore. Lincoln ,made sure of that. Lilly said she didn’t do relationships with clients and their bridal party and Lincoln replied “ I never said anything about a relationship.” He’d been there, done that, got the broken heart, and divorce papers from Jessa to prove it. Not doing that again. Lust was something Lincoln trusted. Lilly unknowingly had a relationship with a married man. He had been a best man in a wedding she did and he lied saying he was single. When the affair came out he claimed Lilly seduced him and his family took his side. It had almost ruined their business. Lilly had been sick for months over what she inadvertently done . the damage had caused, not only to her business and a poor woman’s marriage but also to her heart. Trust wasn’t something Lilly gave easily now, even doubly so.
I really enjoyed this book. It was an easy romantic read with some humor thrown in. I really like dLilly and Lincoln together. Their chemistry was hot. I also loved the relationship Lilly had with Pru and Mo, as well as the one Lincoln had with Kenneth and Marie. Lilly and Lincoln both had issues , Lilly from her relationship with a married man and Lincoln from his failed marriage. He didn’t want anything to do with a relationship and that is what Lilly was looking for. I enjoyed the plot and pace. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.

Yay for a romance with a fun forced proximity trope (they even get snowed in!). While this is the second in a series, I didn’t read the first book and thought it worked perfectly fine as a standalone.

Things are awkward for Lilly when it turns out her one-night-stand is the best man of the next wedding she’s planning – and now Reid’s got four weeks to convince her to give him a try. Not for a relationship, but just another roll in the hay to get her out of his system.

“Mark her words, those who rushed in would rush right back out when they discovered that spark didn’t last.
You had to have substance, compatibility. You couldn’t just see someone and know. Love didn’t work that way.”

Famous last words, huh? Lilly prides herself on being the opposite of her mother, who hops in – and out – of relationships without much thought for anything other than chemistry. Lilly’s looking for true long-term commitment, and she doesn’t think that’s something that can be determined from an instant moment of connection (or a night of particularly amazing sex). Reid, still reeling from the implosion of his marriage, isn’t interested in a long term commitment at all – and that’s just one mark against him on Lilly’s honest-to-goodness hand-written pros and cons list. Since it shows that they don’t match, that’s enough for her to not want to pursue a relationship… even if she still daydreams about their night together. I thought Lilly’s overwhelming attraction to Reid was hilarious, and it definitely helped amp up the tension between the two. Reid’s a computer geek so there’s a definite nerdy side to the relationship, including flirting over pinball, which they both excel at. But the best part? He picks Lilly up at the hotel bar with dad-joke-worthy pirate jokes!

“All’s fair in love and pinball.”

The book is pretty short – only 150 pages – so the story moves quickly. I liked that it was set in Denver, which isn’t a city I’ve seen too many romances set in. The side characters were fun, especially Mo and Pru, though I thought the wedding couple, Reid’s friends, were a little too pushy on getting Reid to hook up with Lilly. Although I anticipated the bleak moment for most of the book, it still missed the mark for me. Despite the build up, I felt like the way it happened completely went against everything else I knew about Reid’s character. Though he immediately realizes he reacted badly, instead of apologizing and explaining, he just… does nothing. The grovel, however, was very Reid-sweet.

Overall, this was a fun and quick read. While I don’t think I’ll go back and read the first in the series (I’m not a big fan of pregnancy romances), I’ll definitely be looking for the remaining wedding planning partner’s book, as Mo was an absolute riot.

I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This one was a bit of a challenge for me. Typically, I don’t like a lot of physical romance in the stories I read. I struggled to find depth with both the characters and plot. At times I did enjoy the writing and the characters, but unfortunately there were times I didn’t connect with the main characters like I wish I could have.

Lilly is the go-to wedding planner in Colorado. If there’s a ex crashing a wedding or an in-law that’s had too much to drink and starts karaoke, she knows exactly how to handle the situation without breaking a sweat. Everything professionally is copacetic, until she has her first and only one night stand with a stranger from a bar who turns out to be the best man from the wedding she’s currently planning.

Lincoln is looking for an escape. He’s been hurt in the past and is looking for nothing meaningful. He’s at the point on his life where he’s looking for fun and not ready for the funny, spirited wedding planner.

I understand as a romance book there will be steam and sexual tension but if that’s all there is to a relationship, I do not connect well with the book. I like a story with a side of sexual encounters, not where they take up the whole story and that’s what drives the characters.

Lilly I liked at times, other times I found her character flat. She had a fun, girly sense of humor, but her constant refusal of Lincoln, and then acting on impulse was frustrating. I just wanted to shake her and tell her to get a grip. Lincoln was nice and I really did feel for him, but he was constantly thinking with the wrong part of his anatomy. He would push reason and understanding out of the way to make room for superficial lust.

I love the friendships within this book for both Lilly and Lincoln. They are witty and entertaining and you can sense the camaraderie and love between all of them. I felt more of a connection and love between the friends than I did with Lilly and Lincoln as a couple.

The writing was done really well with this book. The author did a wonderful job setting the scene and making me feel like I was a part of the story. Most of the time i thought this would make into one really cute movie. But all in all I don’t think this book was made for a reader like me.

I had fun with Lilly and Lincoln in The Best Man Problem, the second story in the Mile High Happiness series. While I hadn’t read the first story in this series (something I plan to fix soon) I didn’t find myself lost in the least as what I felt I needed to know from the previous story was addressed in the dialogue between the characters.

On the surface, Lilly and Lincoln had one night of passion and that should have been it – but Lady Karma knows when to hit low at times and Lilly isn’t exactly thrilled to discover that Lincoln is the best man for the wedding she is currently planning and friends with both the bride and the groom. Talk about awkward. She has a strict, no negotiations rule of no involvement with anyone, particularly the best man, in a wedding she’s working. She’s learned the hard way from a past mistake and she’s not about to go down that road again. Lincoln isn’t exactly looking for a long term relationship, but he’d certainly like to break down that rule of Lilly’s.

They both have baggage, issues and still, the attraction is strong between them. What neither was expecting is for that attraction to begin to grow into something more, something worth fighting to keep – if they are willing to take the risks involved.

I liked them both although I thought Lilly was holding onto that past mistake a bit too tightly. It’s done and cannot be undone so move on… but that wasn’t my call to make. The banter between them is lively, the emotions there and getting deeper, and the secondary characters made their story believable, even relatable. A strong draw of this story is the deep connections Lilly has with her friends. It’s as much a girl’s tribe story as it is a romance, and I enjoyed both aspects of The Best Man Problem. If you’re in the mood for a good love story with likable characters, a few surprises, and a couple you’ll be rooting for to find their own happy ever after then you’ll want to pick up this one soon.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

The Best Man Problem is the second book in the Mile High Happiness series by Mariah Ankenman. While the characters are very connected, newcomers can still fully enjoy the read on its own. It is currently scheduled for release on January 20 2020.

The Best Man Problem is a nice return to the Mile High Happiness wedding planning business. Lilly and Lincoln each have their share of history and baggage, and neither are particularly good at opening up. This need to keep feelings lock down is something I could relate to, and was the majority of my connection to Lilly. I liked the story, and I think the conflict, heat, and resolution were all well done. I liked the secondary characters and their stories almost more than the main story. Marie and Kenneth's love story really caught my attention and I wanted more of them. I also cannot wait to see more of Mo. However, for some reason I just could not fully engage in the read. It could very well be because of my headspace when reading more than anything else, but I did enjoy the read over all and will be continuing the series.

The Best Man Problem is a fun read with feels and moments of heat. I think fans of the author will enjoy it but I will admit that I thought the first book in the series was better. This will not stop me from reading the series, because now I need to see Mo find her HEA.

My review:
This was such a cute read. After sneaking away from her one-night stand Lily comes face to face with him a week later when her clients come in to introduce her their best man. She pretends not to know Lincoln and it stinks but he goes along.
She has a strict no dating anyone in the client's inner circle. Even though she is very attracted to Lincoln. He plans to convince her he's worth more than just a one-night stand.
They decide that after the wedding takes place they will try dating. Lincoln finally gets Lilly to share why she has such a strict dating policy.
All the banter between these two is great. Both sets of best friends are great additions to the story and sources of fun. Especially Mo.
This was my first read from author Mariak Ankenman and I really enjoyed her writing style. I'm looking forward to going back and reading Pru's story and whatever else this author puts out.

I enjoyed Lilly and Sally’s love story in The Best Man Problem by Mariah Ankenman, book two in the Mile High Happiness series. Wedding planner Lilly Walsh likes to play it safe and avoid getting too involved. That’s because the last time she hooked up with someone in a wedding party she almost lost her wedding planning business. So no worries when she meets a handsome strange in a hotel bar. Bad pirate jokes lead to the best night of her life, but come morning, she escapes before he wakes because she has a wedding to plan. Lincoln Reid never expected to see the woman who rocked his world the night before, but there she is, planning his best friend’s wedding, with the same passion that brought him to his knees. But, Lilly has a rule that the wedding planner and the best man can never date. With only four weeks until the wedding, Lincoln pulls out all the stops to make her see him as more than just a one-night guy. Somehow, these two keep running into each other, interacting and hanging with the almost-bride and groom. Waiting until the wedding is over builds the anticipation for when they can spend another night together, and another, and . . . These two opposites complement the other and fit like a hand and a glove. They have off the chart electricity and a magnetism that keeps drawing them together.

Ms. Ankenman wrote a fun, and sexy romance that should not be missed. She provided a tale rich with emotions, sexual chemistry, humor, and endearing characters giving Lilly and Lincoln a chance at love, and forever together. I highly recommend The Best Man Problem to other readers.

Review:
This is the first book I've read by Mariah Ankenman. It won't be the last though! After, the last few books I was disappointed in, this one was a breath of fresh air. I loved the premise of the book. Lilli hooks up with Lincoln for a one night stand in which they both think will be okay and they will part ways in the morning. At that point in their lives neither are eager for a relationship because he's just gotten over a divorce and she too just isn't ready to look for love. They are both are members of an upcoming wedding and thrown into a tight space together. They find out what means more to them and how to jump past fear. I adored this one and can't wait to read more by this author.

This review was originally posted on my review blog Deanna Reads Books

I read the first book in Mariah Ankenman's Mile High Happiness series, The Best Friend Problem and thought it was a cute romance. The same went for book two, The Best Man Problem. The second book is about Lilly, she is a cautious woman who is a bit closed off. And Lincoln, and man she has a one-night stand with and ends up being the best man to the wedding she is working on!! Lilly doesn't mix business with pleasure anymore (for reasons) and Lincoln got his heart broken, so the two are kind of both closed off, so it was fun to watch these two dummies finally figure things out!

I really understood why Lilly was the way she was. I really felt for her childhood with a mother who just didn't seem to really care about being a mom, but about finding her own happiness. That's really hard on a kid. So I really got why Lilly didn't think true love was a real thing. Also, what happened before to affect their business makes sense too.

I also felt for Lincoln because he had his heart broken by his ex-wife. So it made sense he didn't want anything serious, but I was also like, "Okay, why are you chasing this lady who is looking for serious commitment?" Don't worry, he was just confused.

This one was cute and it has a HEA, so that is always great to read. If you want a cute, short romance book to read with low-to-medium heat level, I definitely recommend this one.

Mariah Ankenman has done it again. Although the second book in her Mile High Happiness series this can be read as a standalone and I honestly recommend it. Ankenman’s writing style has you emotionally invested in these character’s stories and makes it impossible for you to put down and craving more when its over.

This book follows Lilly, who I found myself connecting with in the first book in the series ‘The Best Friend Problem’ and was so happy that this book focused on her and the possibility of a new romance. Lilly has made mistakes which she has learnt from and put in security measures to make sure they never happen again. She is detail orientated and relies on making lists to determine how she feels. It was nice to see her struggle with her beliefs and face her own feelings about her past.

I adored Lincoln and he really was a man after my own heart. Computer genius who loves to play arcade games and RPG’s?! Where do I sign up for a Lincoln of my own? I found myself just falling in love with more and more as the book went on!

This is a book about friendships, shaping your past and being compatible with other people even if you don’t have a lot in common. I love this series and I cannot wait for Ankenman’s next book which will hopefully follow Mo!

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an advanced copy of “The Best Man Problem” by Mariah Ankenman. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

I started off the year wanting to read more romance so this fit the bill. This story was short and fluffy following Lilly after engaging in an out-of-character one night stand. Despite feeling chemistry with the guy (Lincoln), she sneaks out on him but is later confronted with him again when it turns out she’s planning his best friend’s wedding.

Lilly and Lincoln were constantly trying to not be horny for each other and it got a little old. I get that Lilly wanted to be professional, but no one else except for Lilly seemed to have an issue with her and Lincoln hooking up. It didn’t seem like reason enough to keep them apart for the whole book when they were just. So. Horny. I felt like the Shia LaBeouf ‘Just Do It’ gif for most of the story. I was waiting for more conflict to come up (like one of their ex’s showing up or something) but it was more internal emotional conflict that kept them apart.

Also Lilly having to constantly push up her glasses made me want to tell her to get to an optometrist and get those things adjusted. I know it was meant to be a sexy teacher/librarian thing but having to constantly push up your glasses would be really frustrating in day to day life especially since Lilly had vision problems without them.

3/5 stars
