This book did a lot of telling rather than getting you to experience it yourself which sometimes made it difficult to connect.
It had some good ideas but was poorly executed in places and I found the narrative to be at times quite stilted and incredibly formal in nature. Thankfully the style of writing did eventually grow on me

So I originally had an issue with our heroine Delilah she seemed wholly unaffected by all the dark events that seem to happen to her here which then had a knock-on effect leaving me slightly disconnected.
Her thought process was also strange for example when she was glad her attackers were dead at Skarde’s hand but felt they didn’t deserve to actually die, well yeh they so did and I couldn’t fathom why she couldn’t grasp this especially after just what they had planned to do to her. She did get better with this as time went on but In short, Delilah was just far too nice she should have been rejoicing in the fact that her tormentors were wiped from this earth, good riddance.
I did like though that she seemed quite pragmatic and realised her limited options not acting like a diva.

The Troll here Skarde who is Delilah’s reluctant champion I found intriguing he’s a bit of a lonely soul grumpy and unused to the company of others.
He runs hot and cold in his initial confusion and this isn’t quite instalove but it’s not slow burn either.
He also has a sad past and this I think is what initially helps them both bridge the gap between them recognising their similarities despite their species barrier.

This also had heat and these two did have chemistry and I did believe in their eventual connection together.
But the ending for me was a bit rushed and definitely could have been expanded on again this told rather than showed the reader.

I definitely enjoyed bits of this more than others and it did have some imaginative ideas.
Some of the secondary characters though were complete caricatures and very one-dimensional I also wasn’t a fan of the final ending either.
The actual romance between Delilah and Skarde I found to be very sweet

This had both positive’s and negatives for me and I would say that the middle of this was the best bit and its the start and finish that lost me slightly, I felt this needed some further expansion also this had some pacing issues and I felt that events started to transpire at breakneck speed and so swiftly that it was hard to keep up.
All of the above is the main reason for my final rating.

THE FIRST EVER TROLL BOOK THAT I ENJOYED.

Most of the time stories like this only hold smutty qualities but I'm glad to say this one had enough content and a better relationship development to help pull through. But, don't be expecting anything dramatic, intense or angsty....it was mostly sweet and mellow.

SKARDE is a troll who lost his way from his own tribe when he was a youngling and now lives a solitary hunter's life, the forest he lives around marked as HIS. So, when humans come crashing into his lair, he's angry and he's always been taught that humans have to be killed because they are vile creatures and to protect the trolls themselves. Skarde came across two males terrorizing and attempting to rape a helpless female. Despite his no-love for humans, trolls don't abide by violence against the weaker sex, prompting him to kill the males off and he was about to kill the female when something stopped him. While trailing her, he realised that she has been bitten by a poisonous snake and against his better judgement, he saves her life. Now, stuck with an unwanted human, what's he supposed to do? I quite enjoy their interactions that morphed from stranger laced with fear and a little violence and then into camaraderie of species and then into comfort, care and love. Skarde has been alone for so long, it's not in him to care for another, especially not one he calls the enemy....but this human intrigues him and brings out the softer emotions in him, longings that he thought were dead - for love, a mate and children.

DELILAH has a shitty life that's for sure. Her father who used to be so sweet and doting turned into every little girl's nightmare when her mother died, he turned into a Rasputin that abused and dictated her life. Apparently the man wasn't even her biological father. The story opens with her running away from a ball where she believed she had accidentally killed her father and the guards are out to get her. Stumbling into the forest for cover, she nearly got raped by a man she trusted and then saved by a troll, a being no one thought actually exists. Fearful at first, Delilah is like a child learning to live again as she becomes a companion to the surly troll. Yet, beneath his green exterior, Delilah finds a male worthy of loving, and one who makes her feel whole and loved. Oh and I'll have you know that both of them are virgins, and they're each other's first D'awwwww.

OVERALL the story was definitely sweet and thank God it wasn't insta-love but neither was the plot complicated. In truth, it is a straightforward story with characters that won't bore you and well, it's quite a charming lil' non-human with human romance.

I have to say it took a bit for me to get into the story but once I did, I couldn't put it down. Delilah was abused and used woman that it was a godsend that Skarde the troll found and saved her. Skarde went against his beliefs about humans and kept Delilah as his "prisoner", Both were lonely beings and it was fate that brought them together. Once the trust and friendship developed between the two, the attraction they felt for one another took hold. It was sweet that both were learning the joys of intimacy because both were literally virgins. Those scenes were steamy and intense. It was nice that Delilah was able to be happy with someone after all the heartache and pain she had in her life. Additionally Skarde, the lonely troll, found his mate that he didn't think he will ever had with a very nice surprise at the end. A very lovely story and I'm glad I was given a chance to read it.

Enjoyable

Nice world building and interesting characters some of the Human villagers behaviours was appalling so check the content warnings. No surprises in this story really. Girl meets troll. Girl falls in love with troll. Generally. It was nicely written though and a pleasant read.

This author delivers great characters that are well developed and engaging with plenty of chemistry that draw us from the start. The even flow of the storyline kept me entertained

Cute story, fun premise, poor execution—which is a shame, because this has a lot of potential to be a v. good read.

Full of formatting errors, typos, partial sentences that go nowhere (even one instance where one sentence started and partway through became a different one...that was fun to suss out), inconsistent voice, and hole-ly plot issues and continuity errors, Batman! It would be interesting to see this one reworked at a later date, but in its current state, it's a mess.

The characters are sweet, the romance was EH—not a slow-burn as stated, but not quite insta-love: it takes them a whole week to get going 🙄—and there are a couple really fun lines in this.

I feel like the reviews on this are fake or the author gave them free books. It was a good concept but poorly executed. The main heroine seemed to not care about the stuff that had been done to her, she was almost assaulted MULTIPLE times in a short period of time, which is quickly glossed over. I love a dark book but it seemed each time there was a dark element it was over within seconds. There is maybe a few good lines, but the book read as if it was written by many different people though it says there was only one author. The story also did a lot of telling which made it hard to get into.

In general, I liked this book. It was sweet and romantic. However, the progress of the story was extremely slow. When the characters meet and the troll decide to keep the heroine, we get to see their everyday routine and an extensive overview of their pasts. However, these detailed descriptions are too much at some point and become tiring and repetitive. The second half of the book is certainly more interesting. Also, the book contains several typos and other errors that were disturbing to the reader. Also, there are some questions left unanswered at the end, e.g. since the existence of the trolls was discovered, how did humans react? Did they start hunting them? And since the troll law was that adamant about handling humans, how Skarde's tribe and family reacted to him having a human mate? And what about the other 7 females?

Delilah is trying to get away from the man of her village. The council and the men of the village do not allow women to have rights. When a crime is committed against a women it is her fault and is up to the man of the household to create it. Delilah is running for her life if the man catch her she will not survive what they want to do to her. Skarde is tired of being lonely and the humans are making life hard. He is noticing that some of the animals he service on are getting low and lower. When he here's of humans in is woods he goes to take of it but what he finds angers him more then anything. Skarde and Delilah story is filled with all kinds of emotions so be ready. All an all good book

What a refreshing read......no arrogant alpha billionaires, no bad boy bikers or self indulgent rockstars ...no...we have a sexy Troll......it was so good to read a fantasy for a change and get away from everyday problems even if its for a couple hours ...
Skaade hasnt met a human but he knows that they are not to be trusted but when he saves a human female he cant help but be fascinated by the sassy woman....a great read.

A good story

It needs editing. There is much that is repeated over and over, as well as weird choice errors and spelling errors. Delilah is escaping her town where women are treated like property and she us accused of murder. While running through the wilderness, she is caught and set upon by villagers. Skarde comes across then ask and saves her but now he had to decide if he will kill her as well in accordance with his kinds laws.

I enjoyed this one a lot. The story was different and unique, easy to follow. I read an earlier version so there were a few editing problems, but those can easily be fixed. Skarde and Delilah are both wounded souls trying to find peace. Together they discover love. The main fight at the end could be more detailed, but all in all i enjoyed it.

This book is sweet romance between lonely beings that have suffered a lot in their lives. The suffering for our female lead is present right from the start and makes this a darker story right away. I feared for her sanity at one point. I'm glad that her hero makes this story sweeter.

OMG!!! What a wonderful beginning to a new series! I'm definitely ready for the next book. The storyline and characters were interesting and and unique, and they just kept me reading. While there were a few grammatical errors, they didn't take away from the story at all. Now being on book 2

Lonely troll

Again human men are the villains and if I was unaware of good men I would agree. Having been the victim of bullying I am aware, sadly, a large percentage are bad or willingly ignorant in a patriarchal society. This story is a touching romance between a lonely troll and tortured woman.

It’s a troll! I enjoyed this story so much. They met, fell in love, even though she’s a human! She had a very hard road before they met. He had a difficult life before her also. And yet, when needs are met... i will definitely read the next. 👍😍

Skarde saves Delilah from pack of evil men . His peoples way is to kill humans if they see him but its wrong to kill innocent females . His choice brings him a mate.

Delilah, the female human lead, is chased into the forest by villagers intending to kill her because they believe she killed her abusive father. Skarde, the male troll lead, has lived in the forest alone for years since he lost his family/tribe as a teen, with only another non-human being for occasional company. When he hears humans in his forest, he goes to kill them, per the vow he swore prior to becoming lost. Finding human males attempting to rape Delilah, be dispatches them, but he doesn’t know what to do with a presumably innocent female who is human…

This story is dual POV, well written, and a deeply evocative fantasy romance. Both Skarde and Delilah have huge personal issues to overcome. I empathised with Delilah’s touch concerns and Skarde’s concerns over fulfilling his obligations. I enjoyed the character development and the relationship development that was both sweet and steamy. I found the world dark and uncomfortable but appreciated the space the characters were able to find, and I enjoyed the extended epilogue.
