The official Ninja Sex Party graphic novel is finally here! A 120-page full-color hardcover book, the first chapter of a two-volume set documenting their entire story.
What happened before Dan and Brian formed the legendary/sexy/explosive band NINJA SEX PARTY? This amazing new graphic novel tells the story!
Based on in-depth personal interviews with band members Dan Avidan and Brian Wecht, this graphic novel is the first to tell the NSP Origin Story. Using a unusual format, the book tells two biographical stories that meet in the middle. Read the book one way, and you will learn all about Dan’s life from childhood, through his early bands, up to the formation of NSP. Flip the book over and you can learn about Brian’s life, growing up in New Jersey, pursuing his career in physics, meeting his wife, and how he and Dan found each other.
These stories have never been told before - this is must-have item for any NSP fan!

I'm a huge fan of Ninja Sex Party and it was such a thrill to learn about their lives before Ninja Sex Party became a thing. I like that both of them faced hardships throughout their lives but that didn't stop them from reaching their initial goals. I liked that i got to learn about Brian's story because I didn't know it all and I liked how his wife came in to tell her side of part of the story which was super cute! The artwork was even more amazing and I love that both sides look similar but not completely. The fact that you can flip the book over to read the other person's story is really cool and unique because I've never come across a graphic novel that does that. I cant wait for the second one!!
I really, really enjoyed this. NSP is one of my favorite bands, so I already knew a bit about their lives pre-NSP. Still, it was interesting and exciting to see it in graphic novel format.
I gave it 4 stars because I think that this wouldn't have too much appeal to those who aren't already invested in NSP (unlike other memoir-style graphic novels out there), and there are places where I felt like more details would have fleshed things out a bit more.
I discovered this band rather late --but better late than never! Then again, I am very often late to the party. Considering they are a comedic group, I did expect a comedic origin story but no, this is a serious story told graphically, with points of natural humor. Each member is given his own section to tell the story up to the moment they meet each other forming NSP. There couldn't be more drastically different experiences, yet, united in their love of music and nerdery. The feature I loved of the graphic novel is that each story is told in its color scheme (that is repeated in the second volume), and...here's the best bit, one must turn the book upside down to read the other's story...so it meets in the middle. I bought books at the same time, and I am grateful for that, because, honestly--I would have been rather angry to have only gotten to that meeting point. I very much would want more. Happily, I have volume 2 to discover the rest of the adventure!
An incredibly emotional read for me. First of all, the art direction and styles are absolutely amazing! I spent way more time than I usually do just looking at all the little details in each panel and thinking about how amazing it is that I was holding this book in my hands. As both an illustrator and a wannabe singer, it was an absolute treat.
And then of course, getting to see the things these boys had to go through to get to this point was both emotional and inspiring. I'm 29 and broke and dreaming of doing art for a living and sometimes it feels like I've hit the dead end of dead ends and that I'm just banging against a solid wall forever. But NSP never fails to give me the strength to go on, and it's really nice to see that they too are, of course, human beings who worked really hard to get to where they're at. Rock n Roll.
Holy crap this was so cute! I can’t wait for the next one!! I loved the graphics and they way the story was told. You could honestly hear Danny and Brian’s voices when you read it. Loved when Rachel took over!!! She’s hilarious. Lindsey Lee and David Calcano smashed this out of the park!!!
10/10 it’s a masterpiece!!!!

I adore this band, and reading Dan and Brian's stories just makes me feel great. As a 30 something who is still trying to figure stuff out and pursue my dreams, this gives me some hope and a lot of comfort (plus a lot of laughs).
Captivating tale of the formation of the Ninja Sex Party, with a lot of heart. The format of the two stories, read from either end, and meeting in the middle, was very well done. I know what you're thinking - was my favourite of the two stories the one of the ninja? Yep, it was...
The greatest band of all time delivers the greatest origin story of all time. Beautifully illustrated, wonderfully told. I saw lots of parallels between where I'm at in life and where they've been, and it gives me hope for the future.
I mean who can't read this in one sitting? Loved it, art style was perfect. Loved the idea of Brian and Danny writing it. Wholesome. Sad. Passionate. I eagerly await Part 2
Reading both books made me really appreciate Dan, Brian, and Arin that much more. They have an incredible story of believing in yourself and never giving up on your dreams.
