Great book on Moonspell! Although, if there’s one major takeaway from reading this book, it’s that the band is incredibly critical of nearly all of their albums. They are especially hard on “Sin/Pecado” and “The Butterfly Effect,” both of which are strong albums that have stood the test of time. I’ve gotten to see them live on at least 3 different tours and have counted myself a fan since I first heard “Wolfheart” back in 1996. But the book definitely deepened my appreciation and respect for the band. A must for Moonspell fans.

This was a huge surprise! I loved the writing and the book structure. And also the many cool photos of different stages of the band career. The struggle, the joys, the ups and downs throughout the years told by the Wolves themselves and those who have been standing by their side. Highly recommended for those who love music!

Moonspell is one of my favourite bands, so I took my time with this (huge) book, savouring every page. The book's for hardcore Moonspell fans only. That may seem like an unnecessary statement, so I'll explain why I made it: some autobiographies are over-the-top tales of rock 'n' roll debauchery, focusing more on the antics of the musicians involved than on the music they made. Not so Wolves Who Were Men, which is ALL about Moonspell's music and the personalities of the men behind it. They have never been part of the draw-attention-to-oneself-by-performing-ridiculous-stunts school of promotion. Rather, Moonspell has, since its earliest days, gained popularity through sheer hard work: record, tour, repeat, decade after decade. In that respect it's all the more impressive that the band has managed to amass such a following worldwide. That makes me respect them all the more. They got where they got through ability and hard work, not through gimmicks or MTV or any other such poison-apple routes to success. Moonspell did it on Moonspell's terms. I love that.

If you're a Moonspell fan and fancy learning every detail about the band (even from back before it formed, way back when the fledgling members were involved in other musical outfits and first met, brought together by a love of metal, particularly iconic Swedish band Bathory), here's how I recommend tackling this book. Ration your reading sessions to one chapter at a time. The chapters are fairly long, with each one taking as long to read as a Moonspell album takes to play (roughly 70 minutes on average). I'm talking about taking your time reading, in order to enjoy it and absorb every detail of the text, not speed-reading through it as though it were a chore that you're in a rush to finish. Have your beverage of choice beside you as you read/listen. For me, that was organic Peruvian coffee. Read one chapter and listen to one album per sitting. It makes sense to listen to the Moonspell discography in chronological order when you do this, as I did. That way you'll be reading about each album while also listening to it. The details of each chapter make all the more sense when you read the book this way. You don't have to, of course, but I recommend it. That's the way to get the most out of the book. One amazing (or serendipitous) thing is that the autobiography's author shares the same name as the guitarist in the band: Ricardo Amorim. What're the chances of that? Nominative determinism.

What a great surprise!
I kept this book on hold before I started reading it because I felt that, as a bio, it would be hard to read. Huge mistake...
The book is VERY well written managing to portray the history of the band, with its victories and disappointments and always using quotes from themselves and of those, tha dispite not being members of the band are so critically important to understand the contours of the whole story.
In the end, this book was a super simple and fluid reading, not only for fans of the band but for all those who have interest in this type of literature and music and who would like to understand and know the origins and sequence of events that shaped the band which is known today.

Absolutely loved it, I read it while listening to the albums and it was an extraordinary experience!
Also, something that "bothered" me is that they refer to some albums as weak...weeeell, let me tell you that there isn't a single Moonspell album that is bad, the versatility of the band is close to the essence of my soul, you can't always be aggressive and intense..there are times that you feel like listening to Butterfly effect for months, the Omega white the next two etc etc...
Finally, I am so grateful to Ricardo S. Amorim and also the members of the band that gave us the opportunity to learn something more about this MAGNIFICENT band (without exaggeration). ☺️🐺🖤🌙

"Lobos que foram Homens" is the authorized biography of Moonspell, a metal band from Portugal which managed to obtain a certain degree of recognaissance outside of its home country.
The book follows the path of its elements since its inception to 2017. While describing the birth of this project, a context of the metal scene in Portugal at the time is also portrayed providing some interesting "historical" knowledge.
We follow them through their high and low points, giving insight to some parts which were, until now, only known to their inner circle. Testimonies of former elements, which left amicably or not, are also present giving us a very detailed portrait of their growth pains.
For the fans of the band is definitely a must read, but even for non-fans it's a recommendable read since we see the story of 4/5 persons striving for a common goal and overcoming several difficulties in its path.

A jump in the past... It's funny to realize that you lived the same things at the same times but in different places. I better understand now why I like them so much : the roots are the same even if we took different decisions at some point. This english version complete the others I had as there were parts I indeed, didn't understand correctly. I really like this book, it's a must to have if you like Moonspell but not only, music lovers should like it also for many other reasons.
