G-rated, YA, Christmas novella

Aiden is a 17-year-old, shy, virginal senior, who has never dated. His policeman father died 7 years ago from an aneurysm, which spiraled the family finances from comfortably middle class into poverty. His mother works as a clerk at the nearby elementary school that his special-needs, 10-year-old sister, Krystal, attends.

Aiden is the most ideal son and brother that any mother could hope for. He helps his mother with their strained family finances by working part-time in various jobs, helps her care for his sister, and he runs track and keeps up his grades so he has a chance to pay for college.

Rylee is a 16-year-old girl who attends the same high school as Aiden. There are over 2,000 students, and neither had ever noticed the other until Aiden dances with her at a fundraising dance for cancer at their high school. Both are instantly smitten with each other, but neither gets the other's phone number because one of Aiden's close friends has a crisis, and Aiden has to rush away while Rylee is in the restroom with her girlfriends.

After the dance, Aiden learns, to his dismay, that Rylee's parents are extremely wealthy, and she lives on the ritzy side of town. He is ashamed of the giant gulf between the socioeconomic status of their families, and he unilaterally decides that it would be inappropriate for him to ask her out.

Then on Christmas Eve, at his mother's suggestion, he takes his little sister to the elite area of town, with multi-million-dollar mansions, for her to be able to enjoy the elaborate, brightly lit, Christmas decorations. While standing in front of one of the most gorgeous displays, he is shocked when Rylee comes bounding out of the house, enthusiastically greeting him and his sister, and inviting them into her house. Unfortunately, Rylee's Great-Aunt Patty, who is staying with Rylee while her parents are out of town on a cruise, is extremely rude and bigoted in her treatment towards Aiden and Krystal. Aiden rushes away with his sister before Rylee can adequately stand up for them. As a result, Aiden feels humiliated and Riley feels great shame.

Aiden is the quintessential cinnamon-roll, romance hero. His loyalty and loving compassion toward his little sister, and his constant support of his mother, as well as his shy innocence, make him the ultimate in sympathetic, YA, male protagonists.

Rylee also displays compassion and generosity throughout the story. And, because this is a Christmas story, it is not a spoiler to state that the Scrooge character in this novel, Aunt Patty, has a complete turnaround from mean to wonderful by the end of the story.

Since this is a novella and not a complete novel, there is no epilogue, but given the character of both of the protagonists, it is easy to believe that their HFN could go the distance to become the actual HEA of a long-term, committed relationship.

Because both of the protagonists are so innocent, and do not do more than share a gentle kiss under the mistletoe, this novella is suitable for all ages. It would also provide a pleasant Christmas read for anyone who enjoys seasonal stories.

-‘IF I HAD A WAVERING belief about life being unfair and unjust and nobody looking out for me and my family, in one extraordinary day, it was all erased.’-

Written in alternating points of view, this very fast-paced, sweet, clean teen romance has a hint of the Brit in it (non-British people will pick up on the expressions) and it’s a very heartwarming story. It’s novella length and a quick read, so ideal for when you’ve just got a limited time to read. It’s priced accordingly too, so it won’t break the bank. A fun, spunky romance with a few interesting twists and turns, that is suitable for all ages. Despite its short length it’s a complete story and the reader doesn’t feel as though anything is missing. I really liked it and I recommend it!

-‘My heart bursts and sings with hope. Maybe Aiden was forced to depart quickly, perhaps he didn’t mean to abandon me. And most of all, perhaps that forehead kiss wasn’t meaningless.’-

For a shorter length story, "My High School Christmas Boyfriend" had an impressive amount of depth, character and dropped a neat twist in at the end.

Aiden and Rylee meet at a school dance and it’s mutual attraction, then Aiden gets dragged away by his friends without getting the chance to ask Rylee for her number. When he finds out she’s from the rich side of town, while he’s from the poor side, Aiden gets that he hasn’t a hope. But Rylee disagrees. Enter a grumpy great aunt who seems determined to put barriers between them, and things aren’t looking so good.

This is a sweet and clean story. I found Aiden and Rylee to be delightful characters and well portrayed. It’s the kind of story I’d happily sit down and read again.

What an adorable story! I loved it. Being a novella, the romance was a biiiit instalovey, but the wonderful message made up for it. This was a freebie and I went in with fairly low expectations, but it was GREAT! I would definitely recommend this one.

A sweet Christmas tale of young love between sixteen year old Rylee, an only child from a well off family, and seventeen year old Aiden, from the poorer side of town. Aiden’s mum is a single parent to him and his ten year old sister Krystal who has a mental age well below her age from birth, having lost her husband to a sudden death when Aiden was ten. His friends have come to his house as normal and are trying to persuade him to go to the Christmas dance at their high school. It’s being held to raise money for Cancer research on behalf of a teacher who is fighting cancer at the time.

He is persuaded to go by his friends, who won’t let him refuse and come to pick him up, and his mum who wants him to join his pals and have a bit of fun. He has been working so hard in a Christmas tree stall, to help support his mum and their family. He loves his little sister and helps his mum in any way he can with her. She loves her old purple shoes and won’t wear her boots or anything else. She can’t say many words and is fascinated by shiny things, so Christmas is a great time for her.

One of their friends is very confident and strides up to a certain girl, amongst a crowd of others and the rest of the boys just follow along. Aiden stares at his shoes and notices a few female feet around him and eventually looks up, which is when he first sees Rylee and his breath is taken away! After a few dances, Rylee’s friends call her away for a bathroom make-up check, trouble starts on the dance floor and Aiden is pulled away to help a friend and disappears. Aiden hasn’t even got her number and believes he will never see her again. He doesn’t even think he has a chance once his friends let him know who she actually is.

She is being looked after by her strict great aunt, while her parents are just finishing their usual holiday cruise, but are delayed due to bad weather. Aiden takes Krystal out to see the fancy lights and decorations in the better half of town and she ends up outside one particular house with a pink and silver decorated tree in it window. Unknown to Aiden, this is the home of Rylee and her family! She sees them and invites them in, but her great aunt makes her dislike and prejudice against a child such as Krystal, very plain and Aiden leaves in a rush, dropping the proverbial shoe in his haste.

This is a short, but lovely story of love against the odds. Two teenagers from opposite sides of the tracks, as they would say, one from a struggling family and the other from a family that has all the luxuries they want and no money struggles at all. The reaction of the great aunt is the turning point in the growing relationship between this two teens, but also has a sad tale attached to this behaviour. Rylee’s hunt for the owner of the shoe and her big brother, the stranger she met at the dance, is consuming her. A reverse Cinderella tale, but made very modern and up to date for the teens of today.

Having read all the books in the Young Love series, I look forward to more in this Boyfriend series and hope there will be some much longer stories to read. This is a lovely tale of love against the odds and first boyfriend relationship status for the young characters. An easy, yet clean romantic story, which I would recommend to all, especially anyone wanting a bit of Christmas cheers. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

This was a great read interesting how they met 🙃

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2020...

Spoilers? Hmm maybe? Let's see! There could be a lot of splashes 💦 here and there. 💦📖

I liked this book. I don't think I would've ended up disappointed when I did start reading this book. Because for one, when I first started, the book caught my attention, and I didn't want to stop reading because I wanted to know what will happen next.

Not only that, but I was also glad that Rylee found well more so Aiden randomly popped up at her house unexpectedly. Though neither of them knew that (Aiden was going to show up, though he brought his sister Krystal there for the Christmas lights and decorations) whereas Rylee spotted him outside of her street in front of her house.

But the only bad thing about when they saw each other again. Her aunt was horrible towards Aiden and his little sister, who has a disability. I wouldn't say I liked it one bit. I like that Rylee put some sense into her aunt's head because I think she needed to hear what Rylee thought. Plus, Rylee was ignoring her too. But what I did like was the apology that Rylee's aunt gave Aiden about what she said about them both especially his sister. Because of how she was feeling when it came to her son that was talking from her, who also had a disability who didn't live long and died at four months. That was just sad.

I did like that Rylee's aunt invited Aiden and Krystal over to make Rylee Christmas better. Since technically she did ruin it and also her parents weren't coming until later because of the weather. But she (Rylee aunt) invited Aiden's parents and grandparents over, which was good. Rylee's parents finally came, and they liked his mom's candles, which was a good thing. Because I thought she could make a living off of selling candles.

It also sucked about his dad, but I also thought disabilities and health issues might run in his family. Which so sad, especially with his sister. But I thought she was adorable. 😍

A very sweet story. Aiden is coerced into going to a dance and he meets a girl, Rylee. He doesn’t get her phone number.

Rylee’s family is very wealthy and she gets pretty much her heart’s desire. Aiden’s family is basically on the other side of the tracks. His Dad died of a brain aneurysm when he was 10. He has a little sister who is precious to his family, with special needs. His mother works hard to provide for the family. Aiden helps out where he can.

Kylie Key weaves a beautiful story that touches the heart.

I debated on a four-star or a five-star. It's well written, I wanted to yell at the lady getting mad a the little girl. It touched home because I have a son without any visible issues. It's mental health and it's really hard when there is no visual issue. Anyway, A sweet, short, Christmas love story and I loved it.

This is the 5th book I've read written by Kylie Key; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved the chemistry between the characters.

Loved it! The characters had so much depth for such a short story! Just a shame that Rylee was a bit dramatic imo when she noticed her parents couldn’t catch the plane to arrive in the morning, but had to catch a plane later so they would arrive in the afternoon.

A really sweet, young adult story.

A time when we do good deeds for others and have a time for family.

But this Christmas is a little different, secrets will be revealed, prejudice over come and new friends made.

It also left me a little sad, would they have done those nice things for Krystal if it had been any other time of the year. Probably not. Which is a lesson to all of us, we don’t need a special holiday to do nice things for people. Go out there and make someone’s day, for no other reason than, that you wanted to.

Enjoy this sweet book.

My High School Christmas Boyfriend is a sweet, romantic story that has a wonderful message. This may be geared towards a younger age group, but it is so well written it bridges any gap. The characters have depth and are engaging. The storyline is original with an emphasis on forgiveness and acceptance. Great afternoon read! A wonderful and beautiful story of unconditional love, young love and forgiveness. This is a very touching story. The characters are each rich with personality. This definitely is more than a simple young love story. It sparks long kept secrets to be revealed and forgiveness and understanding to be given. Of course, there is also the Christmas Boyfriend!

An amazing and sweet story!

Ooh, this was a nice sweet novella, perfect after reading a book with fairly heavy topics. Aiden doesn't want to go to the high school dance, we feel all his awkwardness, but he finds himself dancing next to Rylee and is immediately smitten, but before he can get her number he races off to help his friends. When he finds out that Rylee comes from a rich family, he knows he has no chance with her. I liked these characters, Aiden is very caring and protective of his little sister and there's a feel good element that fills you with Xmas cheer!

This was an incredible story. While it was on the shorter end of the “book-length spectrum,” there was still depth. There were so many different layers. The story faced many social problems in our society today. Such as disabilities and the rich-poor dynamic. It was a bit of an instant love story, but the characters learned a lot more about each other before they made it official. I liked all the transitions and events. They all led up to an incredible end. It wasn’t very predictable. I didn’t expect Aunt Patty’s confession. It was a great YA love story just like the rest of Kylie’s novels.

This story follows Rylee and Aiden. (I love dual povs!) They meet at the winter formal. Rylee is a junior and Aiden is a senior. They dance for four songs then Rylee goes to freshen up. At the same time, Aiden leaves with his friends to stop a fistfight from happening. When Aiden figures out that Rylee is actually super, super-rich, he believes that he is way out of her league. He lives on the poor side of town. While he and his disabled sister go to look at the lights in the richer section, Rylee and Aiden bump into each other. Rylee’s aunt insults Aiden’s sister and his family and Aiden rushes out as fast as he can. Will they get their happy ending?

I wrote this voluntary review in exchange for an ARC copy.

This is a super short book in my opinion but it got really deep and has great character development.
I have really enjoyed all of Kylie Key's books I have read and this one didn't disappoint.
Starts out with Aiden talking about the Winter Dance and how he doesn't do dances at all. His friends end up making him go and he meets Rylee. They actually have great chemistry and end up having a great time before Aiden has to leave abruptly. Seems like fate was working with them because Aiden took his sister to see the lights and ended up in front of Rylee's house where they see each other again.
Then you meet Rylee's Aunt and things go a little down hill. I loved the character development of Aunt Patty but her story was emotional and so unexpected. I wish this story was a little longer but considering it's a series I wonder if these couples will show up again as the stories go on. I'm so glad this story ended the way it did for everyone!

This book! Even though it’s a short reading, the original story and the cuteness of it makes it a great selection.

The positive message is very christmassy. Rylee is a rich girl but not spoiled or mean.
Aiden is the sweetest guy with everyone, especially his family. And they have an amazing chemistry.

This book is a must if the idea is to read something super sweet but short.

Rylee and Aiden, two High School kids, hit it off, but living in the opposite social side of town, their romance seems to be impossible. They meet unexpectedly when Aiden is looking at Christmas lights with his little sister Krystal. Regrettably, Rylee’s aunt, Aunt Patty, is also present and is very mean to Krystal, who has a disability. That is only the beginning of events for Rylee that make this Christmas the worst of all. Realizing that it’s partly her fault Rylee is so sad, Aunt Patty looks for ways to cheer her up and make it the best Christmas possible.
I enjoyed the development Aunt Patty went through. Opening up and acknowledging she made a mistake was not easy. Krystal’s life was precious in itself. It was a really sweet story, in which the meaning, as well as the consequences, of unconditional love were very well described.

Cute

My High School Christmas Boyfriend started off a little like Cinderella, with a dance and a missed opportunity, but it took a surprising turn. This book wasn’t just a sweet, clean, Christmas YA romance. It’s about acceptance and love of all kinds.

I was angry with the aunt. Kept picturing her like the evil step mother from Disney’s cartoon Cinderella. She seemed absolutely wicked at first, but then the author went and switched things up on me.

This book took me maybe an hour and a half to read. Maybe. It was quick but not rushed. It felt like the perfect length for the story and it had all the feels of a Hallmark movie.

Not very good

This book was basically just boring and very surface level. The writing wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t good or interesting. The story itself might have been okay if the author actually developed any of the potential plot lines beyond a single conversation. One of the themes of the book was treating people with disabilities as people, but the character in the story that had a disability was basically a prop to make other characters look good or bad depending on how they treated her.

Heartwarming and sweet! This book has a lot of feels within its pages. The characters were endearing, even Aunt Patty. Not only was it a wonderful story, it actually makes you stop and think of the physically and mentally disabled people and what they go through. You never know what someone is going through as evident with Aunt Patty. She had me shedding a tear or three at the end. Rylee and Aiden were the epitome of high school first (and sometimes only) love. Enjoyable read!
