Gia Santella #9

Cold as Death

Rate this book
Gia Santella and Rosalie have fallen into domestic life at an estate outside Mexico City, where the seemingly endless days are long, lazy, and luxurious.

The sun-drenched days seem as if they will last forever. Even though Gia must return to San Francisco when Rosalie's school starts again, that reality seems far away.

Meanwhile, Nico Morales is intent on finding a way to exit his role as the head of one of the world's most powerful cartels so he can be the father Rosalie needs. His only desire in life now is to keep the girl safe.

But Nico's actions to protect Rosalie backfire terribly, and in the most horrific way.

Now it's up to Gia to save them all, and she must risk everything for those she loves.

Another great Gia Santella Crime Series read by Kristi Belcamino! I am absolutely loving this series and where Gia’s journey is taking her; I cannot wait to see how her journey ends (but, hopefully, there will be several more wonderful books before then!). She has grown so much over the course of the series, yet has stayed true to herself and her beliefs. She fights for those who cannot, the injustices and atrocities of society, and the welfare and happiness of her dearest friends and family. Her character is intriguing and I love her strength and determination. I hope she will find her happy ending with Rosalie and Nico; they fit together well and make a lovely family unit. Crossing fingers!!

Cold as Death was both heartwarming and full of heartache and loaded with edge of your seat intensity throughout. This book seriously held my attention from the first chapter and I whipped through the pages as fast as I could. I could not find a place I was willing to put the book down so I read it in its entirety last night (took about an hour and a half). It was absolutely thrilling and full of danger, suspense, mystery, action, conflict, family drama, and hints of romance with several surprises thrown in. And I was excited to see Eva, once again, jump into the action with Gia when she needed her most.

I absolutely loved this story and I am looking forward to the next to see how the ending of this one played out (because oh, my!!). The reason I rated this one 4-star versus 5-stars was that I felt there were a couple of instances where Gia’s actions were out of character for her. Though I understood the circumstances, it still seemed, to me, that she would have said to hell with it all as those she loved were in danger and powered through like in past books in the series. But my thoughts on this in no way diminished the impact or the awesomeness of this read. It was fabulous! I struggle between which is my favorite character/series – Gia or Eva, but either way, Belcamino has worked her way to the top of my author list as one of my favorite authors.

This series just keeps getting better. Kristi Belacamino takes one on a roller coaster ride of suspense. This book was hard to put down but my heart rate was certainly up dealing with the action. We learn more about Gia and Nico’s relationship and the dangers that both face. At one point, Gia contacts her Aunt Eva to lend a helping hand but Gia discovers that Eva considers her a liability. Eva reminds Gia that she is a parent to Rosalie and she must be careful. Some people close to both Gia and Nico are killed which reminds both of the kind of world they both live in. It is hard to review this book without giving spoilers so I won’t. I can say the action is non stop and the dialogue is perfect for the romantic situations as well as the action ones. Kristi Belacamino is a master at using words to paint a picture. It was easy to visualize the scenes in one’s mind as the words were read on the page. This one would make a great action movie or TV series considering this is number 10 in the series.

When you read a series, there comes a point where you think...this will be winding down soon...! This is simply not the case with any of the books in the Gia series. The plots always seem to get thicker, the pace is gripping and intense, it is simply a page-turner that dares you to put it down. No spoilers in my reviews: This does just fine as a stand-alone but you are better served if you've read from the beginning but only for continuity and character backstory. The characters and stories are all so well developed, you can fall in quickly and deeply without difficulty. A definite thrill ride that will have you on the edge of your seat...Mexico is the backdrop and cartels are involved, need I say more? So, stop reading this now, and go and one-click this amazing thriller for the next best book you'll read! I received an ARC of this book and I am providing my honest and unbiased review.

Rosalie and Gia are having a relaxing time in Mexico with Nico, while he works on trying to become legitimate. However, there are people who want Nico and his soldiers gone for good, and are orchestrating behind the scenes to accomplish this. They'll stop at nothing to achieve their goal, including messing with Nico's family.

Whilst I did enjoy this book, and I love Gia and the other characters, I felt like Gia's actions were a little out of character at some points, when her loved ones were in danger. She let other people around her dictate what would happen and when (and sedate her?) and she just accepted it, which I don't think is like her.

It was still a great read, with all the action, suspense (and emotion) we've come to expect from a Gia book. I look forward to seeing where the next book goes, especially after that ending!

One Family's Terror

A parent’s worst fear is the loss of a child. Even worse is if that child is kidnapped. What will that child be subjected to? What kind of trauma? Gia is a mother who won’t admit to it, Nico is a father who just got his daughter back and Rosalie is a girl who has already been subjected to all kinds of terror. This is the story that you will be navigating in Kristi Belcamino’s latest book. Oh, and Eva, the Queen of Spades also makes an appearance. The book is full of nail biting suspense and tearful drama that will have your emotions reeling. The ending is full of both sorrow and joy and the trip through will keep you reading with pauses to catch your breath. It is a wonderful story of family, devotion, and suspense in true Belcamino style. If this is truly the end of the series, I will miss Gia and her world. Don’t you miss this book.

This exciting and full of action book starts off with tranquility as Rosalie, Gia, and Nico are doing what any small family would do in the summer, playing in the pool, and enjoying each other's company. That all changes one morning when Rosalie is kidnapped. This story is how they try to get her back. There are chases through the jungle, chases through town, and more chases through the jungle. A truly adventurous tale with lots of violent action and intrigue. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, not being able to put it down at all. I loved it! I especially loved that the Queen of Spades entered the story too. What a great action story. A very exciting read! I would like more like this from Kristi.

This series continues to improve, and it was great to start. After 10 volumes you would think you have the main character pretty well defined and developed. While Gia is all of that, she continues to grow and we continue to see more facets of her. On the surface you get a kickass strong well thought out female character who doesn’t understand the concept of backing down. There is lots of action, plot twists and excitement. It’s a book you don’t want to put down because you want to know what is coming next. You also see a character that has doubts and flaws(?). Someone who cares about others. Someone who will do anything to help and protect others. While this is a stand alone book, I strongly recommend reading the series in order just to see how Gia matures and grows. Highly recommended.

I woke up this morning at 6:00 am. By the time everyone else woke up at 8:00, I was almost done with Cold as Death. I ignored the beagle's call for kibble until I finished.
The beagle is persistent, but the book is that good.
Gia Santella and her aunt, Eva, are the kind of relatives we all wish we had in a crisis. No one is a fiercer protector, no one loves deeper, and no one is as strong and intelligent. At least in my family.
The book is a continuation of her life, and it's always changing, so there's no risk of "been there, done that." I don't know how Kristi Belcamino keeps coming up with such innovative, fabulous plots, but I am thrilled she does. She puts the THRILLER in thrillers.

Cold as death

My favourite book in the Gia series to date. I may sound like a broken record as my last review said the same thing - but the books keep getting better!

The reader gets to explore the new relationships between Gia, Nick and Rosalie , who is just getting to know her father, as they have an extended vacation at his mansion in Mexico.

While Gia and Nico are very much in love, their lifestyles can put Rosalie at risk.
I loved Eva's continued involvement in Gia's life and their interweaving storylines. Eva rides to the rescue to assist Gia in the midst of conflict with her VIA iOS team that were introduced to us in the last book of the Queen of Spades series.

There is plenty of suspense and uncertainty in this book. Drug cartel violence permeates this story. Rivalries and revenge are motivators. Nico Morales is ready to fight, but he is anxious for peace. Gia Santella is sexy and provocative in this episode...until the violence becomes personal. Then the Gia we know and love springs into action. Danger is everywhere and young Rosalie becomes a pawn in the drama. Gia recruits her old friend Eva for help and she brings expert manpower with her to go into the jungle to rescue Nico and Rosalie. In the end Gia and Nico face a major life-changing decision, but I won't give it away. You'll have to read the book to find out for yourself.

Gia is always surprising me. She has such a tough exterior with a soft heart, I don’t know how she makes those tough decisions. She’s still in Nico’s world however they aren’t as safe as believed. You need to read all of Gia’s books in order to understand. This one is nonstop action and choices, told in different viewpoints. Her story spans many years, lovers, criminals and countries. It’s a powerful series with strong women and men that encourage them. I received an early copy and wrote my review voluntarily.

Will not leave you cold for long

Gia, the vigilante with a heart, goes to Mexico to spend some time with Rosalie and Nico. As the story progresses the tranquility is shattered, a desperate race ensues, and even if she wins it could still break her in the end. Kristi Belcamino’s Cold As Death will not leave you cold for long. There is plenty of action to keep your heart pounding and more than a few twists that will have you reeling. A definite thrill a minute read.

I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.

My first thought when I finished this book was ... so many emotions, everytime I think it's the best book and then the next one proves me wrong. Kristi Belcamino has brought such depth to character of Gia. Still a fierce heroine, but shows it's ok to be vulnerable and afraid. It's how she reacts to the fear that has made this series one of my favorites. I also enjoy how Belcamino ties in Eva from her other popular series and continues to build the family connections. If you like action and an emotional rollercoaster read, this is the book for you.

it may be book 10 but this series just keeps getting better & better. Gia yet again finds herself having to fight for the ones she loves. After taking things nice & easy in the sun things take a horrific turn when her adopted daughter is kidnapped. This book sees a slightly different side to Gia when she defers to her aunt who comes to her aid in the rescue. Thoroughly enjoyed this instalment, was very hard to put down right from word one. Whilst it works ok as a stand alone you'll defiantly want to read the rest of the series & be waiting for the next instalment. Highly recommend.

The romance angle had me going. I hope this works bc poor Gia does not have good luck involving love and relationships.

The action, emotion and storyline paced a wallop. I enjoyed the discussion of good and bad, the intrigue of who the villain was, the extra time with Eve and the development of this family unit. The baby issue is hard but it helps build the story and has relevant debates on all parts. Dante entertained me and the ending has me clutching my hands and just mouth dropping.

Can’t wait for the next story!

Another very good story with Gia and Nico nestling together as they share Rosalie in Mexico. This time Nico is under attack by an old enemy, who uses the forces of another cartel, augmented by Russian mercenaries. When the girl is kidnapped, Gia calls on Eva, the Queen of Spades, for assistance. With many of the same characters and same issues, there is a feeling of deja vu for much of the action. Nonetheless, the book is engrossing and the suspense keeps the reader hooked.

Gia and Nico, head of the largest cartel in Mexico, have settled into a life together taking care of his daughter, Rosalie. Nico wants to get out of the cartel, but it is almost impossible. Rosalie is kidnapped by Nico's rival. Gia will stop at nothing to get her back. Risking her life will not stop her. This is another thriller in this series that you will not want to put down.
