A moment of quiet was all Theran was looking for. He was not looking to be nearly decimated when he stumbled across a sorcerer near the pack’s hunting grounds. He’s certainly not looking for his mate when the pack congregates at Elysium for a meeting, but that’s exactly what Theran finds when he runs into the sorcerer a second time.
Colby has been the bartender at Elysium for a year, and he’s been relatively happy. He hides his paranormal identity well, flirting for tips while using sarcasm to keep others away. When he first saw the wolf in the forest, he was stunned. Learning the wolf he’s been dreaming about is real is only compounded by learning the wolf is his mate.
With the Sorcerer’s Enclave now interested in the Chevalier Pack, Colby attempts to protect Theran by kidnapping him, which only results in a deeper involvement with the pack. Despite managing the Enclave, dealing with increasing threats from the McBane Pack, and forging new alliances, Theran and Colby are determined to find their happy ever after.
Kay lives in Colorado with her husband and their animal children. Family is important to her so there are weekly visits to her parents and frequent text messages with her brothers. She has a severe addiction to coffee and Mexican food. She loves to read and write and can easily become consumed by it for hours, much to the dismay of the husband and dogs. On occasion she can be convinced to venture out into world of the living.
This was another great book in this series from Kay!
I thought that the plot was very well developed and it was a real page turner for me and the story certainly had me hooked! There was action throughout the book and it was a really great storyline. I liked the pace from the author too - it was a great read overall.
I would really recommend that the books are read in order so that you can get the most out of the series and to meet her special characters! I thought that they were all so well developed and I have loved finding out more about them as the series has progressed too.
It is 5 stars from me for this one - very highly recommended!!
This book is the third installment of the Chevalier series. The books are about a rebel pack… they are a mixed species pack with a predilection toward same/sex partnerships. Each of the pack members has been driven from their packs of origin but they were saved by Tanner. IN the first books… Tanner was discovering his strength as an Alpha. His willingness to create a pack where others only saw outcasts has given him strength far surpassing other alphas. Tanner is a wolf and his mate is a dragon shifter. Only once in history has there been such a pairing and it was disastrous for all involved.
As the pack struggles to bond with each other, they have faced the animosity of the traditional packs around them including the one led by Tanner’s father.
This book centers on the beta enforcer of the pack, Theran. While he’s on a run one day he encounters an extremely powerful sorcerer. Their meeting changes things instantly…without even knowing it, Theran has met his mate. As Theran and Colby try to understand what they are to one another…bringing a Sorcerer into the Chevalier pack is not without its challenges. The Sorcerer in question is supposed to be taking information about the pack back to the Enclave. At such a fragile time in their relationship, it’s difficult for either Theran or Colby to know where they stand.
This book wasn’t quite as good as the first two. I suppose it’s because Theran hasn’t been one of the major characters in the series until this point and Coby is a pretty new character. I definitely missed some of the dynamics of the pack that Doherty wrote so well in the first two installments. This book is much more about the mating of Theran and Colby and the plot of the entire series doesn’t advance much. The Chevalier pack is still getting a mixed reception from the other packs around them…and it’s unclear at the end of the book if they are about to have another person in their midst who isn’t being truthful about their motives!
I would definitely continue to read these books. The series is well crafted and enjoyable. The characters are fully realized and interesting although I preferred following along with the major players in the pack. I suggest that you start at the beginning of the series! You won’t be disappointed.

I've read Hearts of Fire and Hearts of Blood with much delight so when I saw Hearts of Magic appearing on Netgalley I immediately requested it. Lucky for me I was approved the same day and I had just finshed my book so I could read it immediately. THIS BOOK WAS SO CUTE 😍
Story: The story itself was not as interesting as the other two books because the pack as a whole didn't do much and not much information was revealed or problems solved. This was really just the story of how Theran finds his mate who happens to be a super powerful sorcerer.
Characters: Theran and Colby are a little more flat as the main characters in the other two books so I was a little more bored with reading about them. They're still cute though and their dynamic is great. They fit, and that terrific.
Writing style: I love Doherty's writing. Her books are way too short and always leave me wanting so much more. I fly through the pages even if I want to take my sweet time and savor them.
Hearts of Magic wasn't as good as Hearts of Fire and Hearts of Blood, but it was still fun and cute. The gay smut was tastefully written. HoM gets three stars from me.
Colby, a sorcerer, was sent to spy on the Chevalier werewolf pack. In the process he runs across one of the members, Theran, who ends up being his mate. Colby will do everything in his power to protect his mate and pack from those willing to hurt or destroy it. This is a fast pace romance with action, seduction, and just enough steam to keep you wanting more!
I absolutely love books that draw you in and don't want to put down. This is definitely one of those! Shifters, dragons, sorcerers, phoenix, this book has all of the supernaturals you could want. Very well put together story line. I have not read any previous books in the series but I did not feel as if I needed to in order to understand what was happening in this book. It gives enough back story to understand what is happening in the present but leaves you hanging enough to want to read the others.
This book was given to me an an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in an exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
Yes yes yes! I'm such a sucker for paranormal shifter romances, and this one's no different, except that it's MM which means my quiet reading time is punctuated with shrill fangirl screams. Short, sweet, and super cute, this story follows a strong wolf pack enforcer mated to an asexual gay sorcerer. The representation of an asexual character is something I've never seen fleshed out so I was really excited to see where it would go and how it affected their relationship. Some of the politics were a little muddled and hard to follow, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment. The chemistry between the two was relatively quick but not insta-love, which I appreciated, and the rivals to lovers trope was executed believably. I loved that Colby wasn't your run of the mill love interest - he was snarky and egotistical and demanding and it made their banter really amusing. All in all, successful read, and definitely a series I want to explore more of!

OMG ! Guilty pleasure for sure, this was SUCH a page turner. I was captivated from the first pages up until the very end, the story line was super interesting and the author had me completely invested in what was happening with our main characters. It is not the first book in a series and this did put me off a bit, but it did not stop me from enjoying this novel. Though I have been recommended to read from the first novel in this series (since I enjoyed this one so much). I am sure I would have loved it even more had I read the other books in the series before this one, though I have to say we do start this book with the first meeting of the two main character and thus it allows, readers such as myself whom didn't read the other books, to be completely sucked into the storyline as it doesn't feel like we missed anything major in their lives. I highly recommend it !

This is a great addition to the Chevalier series and I really enjoyed it. Hearts of Magic is well written fast paced, full of action, has a few surprising twists, the world building is excellent and I love the characters. Theran and Colby are great together and I like how their relationship evolves. I love how accepting and understanding Theran is of Colby's asexuality as they both communicate their wants and needs in a positive way. The pack is wonderfully accepting as always and happy to have Colby join in their fight against their many enemies. I love the secondary characters, the ending is interesting and I can't wait to read the next book in this exciting series.
I received a copy of Hearts of Magic by Kay Doherty via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review. I made the mistake of not reading the previous books in the series, which I don’t recommend, but enjoyed the story nonetheless. I’ve always liked reading about magic and Colby is a powerful sorcerer. Part of the fun of the series is wolves mating with non-wolves who are a variety of other types of paranormals, including dragons and Elementals. There is an overarching storyline to tie the series together but a specific plotline that gets resolved in each book, making for a satisfying read despite the cliffhanger hook to catch the reader into the next installment. An interesting take on the mythos of the different types of paranormals.
Theran (Wolf) and Colby (Sorcerer). MM. Great read. Was good to see the pack dynamics play out. The McBane wolf pack was just a thorn in the Chevalier packs side, but they withstood that and became stronger not just because of their mates strengths and powers, but as a unit they held together, fought to be together as a pack.
Recommend. I was in 2 minds while reading this book and series, do I like it and am I enjoying or is it just something to endure while finding out the outcome. Regardless of this I recommend reading the series.
This is the third book in this series, and while it is not necessary to read the other before it would definitely be recommended. I think my biggest issue with this book as opposed to the other two in the series I've read so far is that even though the two characters are theoretically enemies at first, there is no real enemies-to-lover type dynamics. It's more of a insta-love with some reluctance kind of thing. I would have really liked to have more conflict.
Kay Doherty continues to up the game in the latest installment of the Chevalier Pack. Her characters continue to pull you along on a twisting road of paranormal romance and adventure. Their attempts to unravel the adopted mystery their namesake as they carve out a safe home only propels this installment to its nail biter of an ending.
Another great addition to the Chevalier series. The author had continued the trend of amazing, full-fleshed out characters and a storyline that drew me in from the first chapter. It was easy to lose myself in the story and the ending has me so looking forward to reading the next book.
*I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley*
Hearts Of Magic is a fantastic addition to the Chevalier series. Colby is a fantastic -and different - character and Colby and Theran are a great couple. All I can say is after THAT ending, I can't wait for Book 4. If it's Ean and Matthias' story, it's gonna be awesome!!
This was such a fun and action packed read. Colby was awesome and very powerful as a sorcerer, and his mate was a wolf shifter, Theran. Their relationship was adorable and even humorous at times. I loved the magic and most of all I loved the feeling of family and love. Totally riveting story.
The chemistry between the characters is immediate and well written. Their respect for each other's nature and limits is pleasant to read. I look forward to reading more of their story.
A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words Review An Alisa Review:
Rating: 4 stars out of 5
This pack continues to get more and more interesting. I hate that all they want to do is be happy and they keep getting attacked from all sides. Colby just adds another layer of power to their group.
I liked Colby and Theran though I hurt for Theran when Colby would assume his reactions would be the same as his exes. Theran is powerful but he is such a sweetheart to his mate and his friends. It was hard to see how Colby grew up and how he continues to be treated but it was uplifting when he found the one person he could belong to unconditionally. And the epilogue sure threw a wrench in, man oh man am I now looking forward to the next book. Things are about to get interesting.
I really like the cover art by Natasha Snow and visual of Colby and even though it’s similar in style to the other books it just seems to pop more.

Hearts of Magic (Chevalier #3) by Kay Doherty ★★★★☆ 40k words / Pages POV: 3rd person, dual POV
Hearts of Magic is a sizzling, action-fuelled addition to the Chevalier story. It has heart, sexy times and a whole lot of sweetness and action to keep the reader interested. The story picks right up where the previous novel left off, as Colby and Theran meet for the first time.
I was actually surprised at how quickly this book released, because it doesn't feel that long ago since I last read book 2. But you won't find me complaining. I love the storyline, the characters, and the familiarity that comes with reading each new book in the series now.
The book is labelled as Asexual, and I was honestly a little apprehensive about that. As an asexual person, I too often see people mislabel or misrepresent asexuality. To my relief, Doherty acknowledges the many facets of asexuality. In this book, Colby is asexual, can enjoy sex, but doesn't actually get hard or show his arousal in the “typical” or expected ways. And I absolutely FLOVE the gentle, understanding way Theran tries to understand him, his wants, his needs, and provide what he is happy to share within their relationship. Sometimes he doesn't guess correctly, but Colby is strong enough and aware enough to correct him without getting angry, while Theran tries not to make assumptions and lets Colby guide him. This give-and-take is what makes the relationships within the series so beautiful. They all have this moment, this single-issue, that needs to be navigated and none of them allow miscommunication to override their intelligence and senses.
There was a minor inconsistency in that Theran's surname changed from Curley to Curly. I didn't understand the Sit, Ubu, sit joke and had to Google it. Add them onto the first chapters and I couldn't give it 5*. For me, I got a bit lost in the first 2 chapters. It felt like everything was clinical, almost bullet pointed, and didn't have the flow the rest of the book had. I found myself floundering a little, trying to grasp any kind of connection to Colby within those chapters. Once they passed, the writing cleared up and became more fluid, and I connected to Colby just fine. But the stuttering start meant I had to mark it down a little.
As usual with this series, I loved the characters, the chemistry, and the plotting. The pacing was perfect, interspersing the action between the romance and the heat, while keeping the running plot throughout, consistent with the other books in the series. I love that the pack are constantly growing together, as well as becoming confident and strong individuals.
As before, there is an extra POV within the main story, and one final POV that introduces the next book's central character. For this book, Tanner was the bonus POV within the book, though it didn't appear often, and Ean will be the next book. Both these POV's had their place and were a nice addition, to flesh out the details and show the events from a new perspective.
Thanks to the final chapter – which follows the pattern of all previous books – we know that Ean's story is next. I'm SO excited for it. But, I won't lie, I'd also love to see a story where Ross takes the lead. He's becoming more and more intriguing as time goes on.

Favourite Quotes
“For Theran, his mate and the love of his life, Colby was willing to die.”
This is one of those series that I get more emotionally invested in with each book. It also seems like each fated mated pair gets just a little bit more complicated. There was absolutely no way that having Theran and Colby be destined made sense. Colby was on a mission to find out more about the Chevalier Pack, he had no idea that he would find out more about them than he bargained for.
Theran was more than ready to find his true mate, but even so, he was kind of shocked to find out who it was. Regardless, once they figured it out there was no denying it and no turning back. Because of the threat to the Chevalier Pack, Colby’s main concern was protecting Theran, which didn’t go over too well with the rest of the pack.
There are still a few pack members who need to find their mate, along with at least one mated pair that is complicated? I can’t wait to see how Kay Doherty finds a way to finally get them together. Danger, mystery and plenty of heat… everything I love in a shifter series.
I received Hearts of Magic in exchange for a fair and honest review.
