Paradise Cove

Rate this book
From the USA Today bestselling "master of witty banter" (Entertainment Weekly) comes a hilarious and heartwarming romance about a big city girl who never expected to find the man of her dreams in the tiny town of Matchmaker Bay.
Dr. Nora Walsh has just been dumped in spectacular fashion, making it the perfect time for a major life change. She figures taking over the medical practice in tiny Matchmaker Bay for a couple of years will help her get over her broken heart, and then she can head back to the big city. But when the first man she sees looks like a superhero god, she wonders if maybe there's something to small-town living after all.
Jake Ramsey also has a broken heart -- one he never expects to heal. He doesn't need people anyway and is content hiding out in his secluded cottage on the beach. But after helping Nora with a medical emergency, he finds himself opening up to the witty, warmhearted doctor. Soon the local matchmakers are working overtime to pair them off, and Jake begins to wonder if his campaign to get Nora to stay is for the town or because he can't bear the thought of her leaving.

This book W R E C K E D me.

Lots of content warnings for super heavy topics such as cancer and the death of a child, but this was such an amazing romance. I cried a bunch of time, and I am not a crier!

I have one big thing I didn't like, which is I thought it was NOT OKAY at all for the hero's past relationship to have been while he was underage with a woman in her early 30s. In a book with so many weighty topics, it just felt really tone deaf. Especially because if a woman character disclosed that type of first sexual experience, no one would have really believed it was an okay thing to do. If I can be honest, this subplot bothered me more than the other things.

Nevertheless, I loved this book and decided to just let this go bc it was very minor and the hero didn't make a big deal of it; but i think it's a misstep in an otherwise perfect book.

Paradise Cove by Jenny Holiday is the second book in the contemporary romance Matchmaker Bay series. As with a lot of contemporary romance series the theme to the series is the setting and the main characters will change with each new book so they all can be read and understood as a standalone or in any order if choosing to do so. There are little glimpses of previous characters in the series all throughout though for those that follow along from the beginning.

Matchmaker Bay is actually the nickname of the charming little Moonflower Bay, Ontario due to some nosey matchmaking residents. Dr. Nora Walsh is just coming out of a bad break up and has decided to move to Moonflower Bay and take over the medical practice for a few years before she heads back to the city.

Jake Ramsey is sort of the town recluse perfectly content to hide out in his remote cottage on the beach. However, when Jake does go into town he runs right into helping the new doctor with an emergency. As Jake and Nora’s paths continue to cross it becomes apparent to the town matchmakers that these two are meant to be together.

Having read both books in this series I can say for sure that I definitely have fallen in love with this charming beachy small town. I am always looking for cozy mysteries with quirky humorous characters and here I have found a contemporary romance with this older quirky crowd so I am all in for it. It has also been wonderful to find that the main characters in each were incredibly likable too and this book had all the feels learning their stories. Definitely continuing onto book three now!

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

I had read another book by this author and enjoyed it so I decided to jump right in and read Paradise Cove which is the second novel in the Matchmaker Bay series. Thankfully, it can be read as a standalone. I loved the book so much I quickly found and read the third book and have plans to go back and read the first one. The cast of characters are just people you want to surround yourself with and root for which makes for a great read.

Eager to leave a bad break up behind, Dr. Nora Walsh moves to Matchmaker Bay. Her plan is to take over a medical practice for a few years while she saves some money before heading back to her hometown.

Jake Ramsey hasn't been the same after a terrible loss. He prefers to spend his time alone at his secluded cottage on the beach. But after meeting the new doc in town, he finds himself able to open up to her. A close friendship or could it be something more?

I was so impressed with how the author developed a wonderful friendship between Jake and Nora instead of diving into the hot and heavy stuff right off the bat. As a reader I just picked up on this comfortable relationship they had as friends and it went a long way in making it a pleasant read. That might sound weird because the story does deal with a serious subject, but overall I didn't feel like it was a heavy read as there was lighthearted humor throughout to keep a good balance.

I recommend this book if you like romances with likeable characters with chemistry and a scenic book setting.

Thank you to Forever for providing me with a copy! All thoughts expressed are my honest opinion.

I had such a fun time reading this book. I grabbed it off my shelf and sat on the hammock in my backyard and read it. I got so lost in the story and just sat outside reading for hours.

The book itself was really good too. It was surprisingly steamy. I loved the more mature themes covered from grief to guilt and being a parent/guardian of a child.

Overall, this was a very mature, steamy and very sweet summer read that I highly recommend!

I wanted Jake's story pretty much from the minute I met him in Mermaid Inn. I knew that his book wouldn't be a light read due to his tragic past, but I loved how Jenny Holiday wove humor and steam into it as well. This friends to lovers small town romance hooked me right in from the start and took my emotions on quite the ride.

As one of my fellow book friends stated, if fixer men is your thing, Jake is your man. I pretty much fell in love with this gruff hermit right away. His meet cute with Nora at the hair salon was adorably unique and their chemistry was amazing and jumped off the page. I loved seeing their friendship develop and grow into more. They just clicked in this way that quieted the demons and ghosts of their pasts, but also put them on a path to face them once and for all. I will admit that I wasn't a fan of his history with "Mrs. Robinson" (I felt it detracted from the story more than anything) and the twist towards the end wasn't my favorite. The decisions and actions both characters made because of it made the conclusion feel a little rushed. The ending and so very sweet epilogue felt true to our characters, but I personally would have loved a bit more groveling.

Jenny Holiday's writing really shined in Paradise Cove and she tackled grief and guilt in such an honest and sincere way. My heart broke for Jake as he struggled to heal and come to terms with his feelings and pain. His scenes with Kerrie were particularly moving. Grief was prevalent through the entire novel and was almost a character itself. Speaking of characters, I love the residents of Moonflower Bay! They meddle and gossip and you can't keep anything a secret, but they are always there when you need them and always have your back. Nora's friendship with Eve and Maya was wonderful and no one writes strong female friendships like Jenny Holiday. I can't wait to read Maya and Law's story next!

This story made my heart explode with happiness! It was so entertaining and fun with just the right amount of emotion and heat mixed in. I loved it all!

Jake and Nora were amazingly strong characters that I adored. Nora was awesome. I loved how she was moving forward in life, her attitude, and embracing a new town. Jake was amazing! I totally fell in love with him. He was a quiet man with a heart of gold working through his grief. I loved their subtle attraction and them becoming friends and how that friendship built to so much more and sparks started to fly. That building heat was awesome and I was filled with so much anticipation for them to get together.

I loved that the story jumped right in at the beginning laying everything out so I could just immerse myself in Nora and Jake’s world. It was sweet and easy with a bit of drama and emotion. It was an incredibly wonderful story with really great details and an amazing build. I adored the town of Matchmaker Bay and all the people and their friends. I loved the male bonding and how Eve and Maya embraced Nora. I loved the tension between Law and Maya and am looking forward to their story next. I also loved the meddlesome older folks and the wonderful humor everyone brought to the story, I was smiling and laughing.

This was terrific storytelling and I enjoyed it from beginning to end! I loved the feeling of hope this gave me. It was a truly wonderful read and the sweet little epilogue was like icing in the cake.

Paradise Cove by Jenny Holiday is a sweet book following Jake and Nora.

These two are quite the pair and make for an interesting couple to follow. Their romance blossoms, twists and turns throughout this story. As Nora takes over a medical practice, she meets Jake and finds out he's nursing a bit of a broken heart. His losses are strong, but the two of them seem to be helping each other heal from their hurt.

On a personal level, the grief sections really hit me in a hurtful way. It's my own personal issues from the loss of my Father, but reading such strongly well written grief made me feel things I haven't felt in a while. That made this book super difficult to get through for me, but it makes for one beautiful story. Jenny has done such a miraculous job, and me struggling to get through these because of the realness is a good thing. It just stings a bit. So, reader beware. If you have a heart as sore as mine, be careful with the excellent writing in this book. It'll make you feel things.

Overall, this is one emotional roller coaster romance. I read Jenny years back, and man is she getting better as each book passes.

Three out of five stars.

I don’t rate Forever books that I’m assigned to but wow, if I did, the rating would reflect this: the book will probably be one of my favorite reads of the year.

Nora arrives in Moonflower Bay to take over a doctor’s clinic. She is primed to stay for two years, looking at her move to the lakeside town as a life palette cleanser. She’s just gotten out of a relationship where she lost herself and she’s looking forward to finding herself again.

She keeps bumping into Jake and they form a friendship. Jake is an enigma in town. Everyone knows his story: he lost his young son a few years before and this also broke up his marriage. He’s quiet. He doesn’t speak unless he has something to say. He doesn’t have a phone. But he is a fixer. Jake starts to help Nora in her rental that is falling apart and he finds himself talking to her. She doesn’t expect anything from him, she doesn’t speak in platitudes, and she starts to become a solid presence in his every day life.

Watching Nora and Jake connect was fun and truly lovely. They click. When they decide to embark on a friends with benefits agreement, it’s just as playful and works. (But also a little tough to hide from a small town of meddlers.) Their intimacy is just *that* good. Sometimes they find themselves falling into the romance of it all but it’s complicated to even start to acknowledge that for both of them. Jake is experiencing something new by confiding in a person who isn’t one of his best friends and he also can’t seem to accept he can have happiness in his life and not forget his son. Nora was so determined to not be a part of Moonflower, but as she begins to get to know everyone, care for them, and depend more and more on Jake... she wonders if she’s found her home.

I loved the new friendships blossoming in this book, the enthusiasm for pizza, all the side characters like Nora’s grandma, and just watching Jake and Nora figure this damn thing out. The way Jenny really explores Jake’s grief. I laughed and I cried and I swooned and the HEA felt so earned. I can’t wait to read it again.

Did I mention Jake has long hair and Nora keeps calling him Aquaman?

A sweet, swoony, steamy small-town romance. Jenny Holiday has fast become an auto read author for me. I love her lovable characters, her gorgeous settings, her witty dialogue, and all the charm. Dr. Nora has left the big city relocated to the small town of Paradise Cove for a little change of pace. Jake is a long time resident of Paradise Cove an introverted recklus with a tragic past. This was an engaging and emotional friends to lovers romance. Both Nora and Jake were likable characters with some baggage. The story is for the most part a feel good romance, but the story also deals with grief. The book really gives you all the feels - you will cry, you will smile, you will laugh, you will swoon. cannot wait for the next book in this charming series.

Dr. Nora Walsh had found out her fiance was cheating on her and decides she needs a change. So she leaves Toronto and takes over a medical practice in Matchmaker Bay, for 2 years to get over the breakup.
Jake Ramsey also has a broken heart and one he thinks will never heal. He likes to hang out in his secluded beach cottage.
Then Jake ends up helping Nora with a medical emergency and he finds himself opening up to her, which he never does with anyone.
They decide to be friends with benefits. No romance at all. But can they really do that.
We also meet a lot of the other people in the community and how some are meddlers and some are just there to be there for each other.
Nora's sister and Grandmother also come for a visit, which Jake gets to know them.
Oh yeah and a dog is involved in this book because of Nora's ex. who happens to pay her a visit.
This was so good and I did read the first book of the series.

Reading Paradise Cove was like a guilty pleasure that I needed, and this one tore me apart and I loved it!! I loved this small town romance, with a friends to lover trope.

So happy to be back in Matchmaker Bay- the story was centered on Nora a doctor from Toronto who needed a reset in life, and Jake who was reeling from a horrendous loss.

Jenny Holiday wrote such an engaging and immersive book that swallowed me whole into the small town life, love, friendships and all the drama with it. Though the topics covered grief and loss, Holiday wrote this novel with a great balance of charming, fun and romance. This is going to be one of my favorites.

Overall, steamy and romantic, heartwarming and delicious! Recommend!!

I really enjoyed Mermaid Inn, but I LOVED Paradise Cove. I forgot when I started that Jake has long hair and that Nora compares him constantly to Aquaman. It just added so much fun to the story. Jake and Nora both have their own struggles with grief and insecurities and watching them learn about themselves through each other was so good. I loved going back to Moonflower Bay and hanging out with Eve and Maya. It was the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon and I am so sad that its going to be a YEAR until we get Maya and Law's book.

This series is the perfect mix of Hallmark/small town story and the steam we want in a good romance novel. Jenny Holiday, you are the best.

Fazit
"Someone Like You" ist vielleicht schon vorhersehbar, aber die sympathischen Protagonisten, ihre Freundschaft und ihre nachvollziehbaren Gefühle konnten mich absolut überzeugen. Das Buch bietet eine süße Liebesgeschichte und hat mir noch etwas besser gefallen als der Vorgänger.

This was such an enjoyable read! I really loved the atmosphere of a cozy small beachside town, especially as this fictional town is located in my neck of the woods which never happens.

I loved both of these main characters and the relationship that they shared. The story exemplified how more than just a romance, true love involves being a best friend first.

Although this book deals with my least favourite trope (which caught me off guard), it made sense for this specific story and the author handled it well.

Overall, this was a sweet and cozy read but the story did have its fair share of steam.

Jenny Holiday is definitely a go to author for me and she never disappoints.

I really enjoyed Mermaid Inn and have loved other Jenny Holiday books, so I went into this one with sky high expectations - and it somehow exceeded them?! LOVED it.

As soon as we met Jake in the previous book, I was champing at the bit to get his story. It was perfect.

I loved and related to Nora like you wouldn't believe. Going through a tough break up, wanting that major life change, loved how strong she was even when she didn't feel it. I really connected to her. Funnily enough I felt the same about Jake. There's no competition with grief but I went through something similar to Jake and I just felt like it was written so well, handled with such sensitivity. Those parts were insanely heavy and hard to read, I imagine they'll be that way for everyone, regardless of whether you've lost a child. I loved how it was dealt with, and I feel like you really get to feel Jake exploring all of those feelings and working through his grief. I really appreciated it, especially towards the end .

Now, as for the romance - Nora and Jake's meet cute was quite possibly the most adorable thing in the entire world, I love how the hair thing kept coming back up. I might have squealed several times lol. I am normally not a huge fan of friends to lovers only because we rarely see the development - not so in this one, we get to watch their friendship grow and then turn into more. Gah, the chemistry! They were just so fun to read about, I loved their banter and conversations. I loved their relationship so much. And steamy, wooh boy. I feel like steamier than Mermaid Inn, which I am not complaining about in the slightest lol. There's a slight twist at the end which normally wouldn't work for me given the other stuff, but I thought it worked really well and was necessary for the development of their relationship, especially on Jake's side.

Of course the side characters were fabulous as well - I loved Nora's family and totally teared up, loved the people in Moonflower Bay - all those matchmakers lol. The people working with Nora and the patients, gotta love that small town community. I will say, this reminds me a teensy tiny bit of the Heartbreaker Bay series by Jill Shalvis, but not in a bad way at all - in a I totally recommend these if you love those way.

Now. I need the next one, stat.

Are two books read in a row considered a binge read? If so, then as soon as I finished reading Mermaid Inn (which I came to late), I dived right into Paradise Cove, wanting more of the small lakeside town with its delightful characters.

Nora has left the city with a two year lease of a medical practice in Moonflower Bay after the breakup of a relationship with a cheating ex. She's instantly welcomed by the townspeople who hope to convince her to make her stay permanent. One of the people she meets is Jake, a quiet, divorced, grieving man who lost his young son to the flu. They forge a friendship, and eventually, friends with benefits but getting to the next level takes courage and a leap of faith.

Once again the author takes on the gamut of human emotions with grief and joy, laughter and heartache. Her descriptions of Jake's grief are poignant and will bring tears to the eye but Nora's position as a doctor means she is able to be empathetic without pity. And the sad scenes, including ones with Nora's grandmother who has cancer, are balanced with funny and heartwarming ones. Nora fits in well with the community and with Jake's friends, and she quickly finds female friends Evie and Maya to hang out with - I loved their female companionship. Jake and Nora's HEA takes real life work and commitment but is satisfying. If you want to read a book that makes you feel, that makes you root for a couple's happy ending, this is an excellent choice.

Big city doctor Nora Walsh relocates to Paradise Cove after discovering her boyfriend is cheating on her, with a much younger resident. Thinking a couple years break from the massively busy ER AND dating will refresh her, Nora isn't counting on stoic, size of a mountain local Jake Ramsay to become both her best friend and eventually her lover. But they both agree, it will never be anything more.

A deeply poignant romance with a current of extreme grief running underneath it all, Paradise Cove is much more than a light beach read.

I was absolutely loving this one until

Oh, hello, one of my favorite contemporary romances of 2020! PARADISE COVE snuck up on me. I wasn’t prepared to totally invest in this adorable coastal Canadian small town and its quirky group of friends, but it happened! Our heroine is new to town and just coming off a bad breakup, starting over as the new doctor. The hero is Jason Mamoa-like, monosyllabic builder who is good with his hands. Seems simple, right? Guy meets girl, they’re attracted, they date, the end. Nope. Jenny Holiday takes you on an emotional journey with Nora and Jake as they work through life expectations, a mountain of grief, and moving on so you can move forward.

My favorite part of this whole book was the genuine friendship between Nora and Jake. Have you ever met someone and just clicked with that person? That’s what happens here. Their surface friendship is easy, and their relationship develops over a long period of time (okay, long in romance novel land). The easy banter between them and inside jokes are SO CUTE. Then when they get deep… it’s just beautiful! So much self-discovery and healing. Jake tells Nora that she “asks the right questions,” and it’s so quietly romantic! I’m literally tearing up writing about their connection!

Yes, I read this series out of order. No, I’m not sorry. The book stands alone so well. And Jake and Nora have my whole heart. Will I go back for Holiday’s entire backlist? Absolutely! Also, I need more short-haired heroines with long-haired heroes. It was adorable – I need it to be a thing.

I’ll admit it, I am late to the Jenny Holiday game! I know she has legions of fans, and now I totally, totally get it! I am one of you! PARADISE COVE was my first Holiday book, but it absolutely won’t be my last! In my defense, no one told me how delightfully refreshing her love scenes are and how much I would connect to her characters. That would have been a game-changer a long time ago! (Okay, maybe lots of people told me)

Overall, you can’t go wrong picking up this book. As a warning, this book deals with grief and loss of a child, so be aware and gentle with yourself if you decide to read.

Dr. Nora Wells has taken a a two-year job in Matchmaker Bay. This will help her in two ways. Not only can she work to clear some of her student debt, but she can work to heal her broken heart. Why is it, however, that the first man she spies there is everything the ever dreamed of? But, as will soon be made clear, Nora is not the only one= with a broken hear. Jake Ramsey is also reeling from a huge tragedy in his life.

Right away I knew I was in for a deeply emotional story. Not only are readers treated to the romance that is building in this story, but they get to see a side of Jake that was just so touching, if not heartbreaking.

Nora soon learns that small-town living has a lot to offer. As a matter of fact, one of the first things she experiences in the way of kindness is when Jake comes over to repair the deck at the house she is renting. This is the beginning of a slow-burning romance between them. However, as stated, both Nora and Jake are still dealing with loss, albeit on different levels.

So, they become friends - and soon are friends with benefits. Could this be a chance at love for both of them? How about the loss they've experienced, especially Jake? While reading this book I was truly brought into the drama, the emotion, the moments of sadness. However, there was always hope and love, and that is what tied everything together in this wonderful book by Jenny Holiday.

Paradise Cove is the second book in the Matchmaker Bay series. The first book, Mermaid Inn, was just as delightful as this book is. I cannot wait to see what might be next for this series.

Many thanks to Forever and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Real love, which it was clear these two had, was expansive. It did not demand exclusivity across time. It made room for grief.

Returning to Moonflower Bay in Paradise Cove was such a refreshing change of pace. I just adore this small town and all the folks that live in it SO much.

I was so intrigued by Jake Ramsey when I read Mermaid Inn and he didn't disappoint as the main character of his own book. He was the kind of tortured, reclusive hero I love reading about. The charming, hard-working, "man-god", perfect for a sweet little romance.

It did take me a minute to connect with Nora. I think it's because we didn't meet her in the previous book, and all the other characters have so much history, so it was hard for her to find her place. Whereas Sawyer and Eve had the whole second chance romance thing going on, Jake and Nora's connection took a bit longer to develop. However, once the tension finally exploded and their friends-with-benefits arrangement got underway, I was totally invested in this relationship.

Overall, this was the perfect book to spend a few days with and definitely the perfect book to throw in a beach bag this summer...if a beach vacation is in your future.

Big thanks to the publisher for the gifted book. All opinions are my own.

I had the distinct pleasure of reviewing The Cowboy Says I do, Come Home to Deep River, and Paradise Cove for BookPage. Here’s the opening:

More than any other category in the romance genre, small-town romances promise warmth and comfort, the narrative equivalent of a security blanket in anxious times. Three romances deliver on that mission while also incorporating a surprising amount of contemporary social reality into the mix. They retain many hallmarks of the traditional small-town romance: conventional couples; tight-knit, if mostly culturally homogenous communities; and towns so tiny and remote they take extra effort to reach. But much like Sarina Bowen’s popular True North series, they avoid presenting the small town as a bucolic paradise that renders a prodigal son or daughter whole. Instead, these towns have their own struggles and challenges, much like the books’ protagonists. These are stories about communities and how they adapt and change in order to thrive.

Cute book. Deals with grief over a child who has passed away. A very strong, small town feel. A heroine who is coming off of a break up and a gruff hero who needs someone to understand him. I really liked it. I think this is my first Jenny Holiday book! I heard the first bk in this series isn’t as good - so I just started with this one. Will read her again:)

You're a young doctor who is a tad burned out from the city life. Some extenuating circumstances have let you see that you want something a bit different. Of course your next move should be to the Matchmaker Bay!

Thank you Forever Pub and Netgalley for this advanced readers copy. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoyed this read. I found the pace of the story to be just right. I enjoyed the friends to lovers trope of Jake and Nora. The supporting characters were amazing. Dr. Walsh was a hoot! Also, can I have more Pearl please.

This story has some heavier topics that include the death of an infant. I don't want to give up any spoilers but I feel it may be necessary to have this as a trigger warning. This, among a few other hard topics, took this from a rom com to a heavier romance for me. I am not complaining though. The harder aspects of this book made it more enjoyable for me to appreciate the end.

The only thing I would have liked to be a bit different is to have indication of who's point of view we are receiving. There wasn't consistency in this. Overall, this was a fantastic, swoon worthy, at times steamy, adorable love story! I can't wait to read the next in the series!

This small town romance felt real and raw and lived in. I loved the realistic portrayal of intimacy and bodies (hello stretch marks and a man coming first!) and I deeply appreciated this book’s caring exploration of grief.

Jake and Nora have great chemistry and such an organic arc from acquaintances to friends-with-benefits to lovers. I’m a sucker for a strong silent type but I liked that Jake was more verbal with her and she was while very caring toward others and him, she was also very pragmatic and unfazed by tough dialogue about Jake’s last. It felt believable and deep and wonderfully gratifying to see them grow in their collection via that dynamic.

Finally, I throughly enjoyed the ensemble cast and connection I felt to Moonflower Bay and its townspeople. I’m looking forward to Law and Maya’s story next!

A very good read. I fell in love with Nora , the new resident Doctor and Jake Ramsey from page one. It was very cute how they quickly became friends to then becoming friends with benefits and then...well you’ve got to read it and see. Highly recommend. I thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I struggled a little with the first book in this series, it was missing something for me and I felt like it was a bit too long. I wanted to give the next book in the series a fair chance too and I’m glad I did because I did end up enjoying this one more!

I loved that Nora was brand new to town and had no real connection to anyone and I enjoyed seeing her make new friends, find some romance and just find herself a home. Jake’s grief was portrayed so honestly and tenderly and he really tugged on my heartstrings. Their relationship felt really mature and deep right from the start and I love that it was rooted in friendship. Seeing Jake open his heart to Nora was so sweet and totally melted my heart. A sweet romance with lots of depth. 🥰

Loved this one even more than Mermaid Inn! Jake and Nora have amazing chemistry and I love their friendship. Paradise Cove manages to pack an emotional punch while also being a light, heart warming read.

3.5/5

Jenny Holiday writes some of my favorite romance novels. I really enjoyed her foray into writing a small-town romance with the first book in the series, Mermaid Inn. Paradise Cove was a delightful installment though I did have a minor complaint.

We meet Nora, a well-established city doctor, who has just moved to Moonflower Bay after her last relationship goes sour. She's trying to settle in her new home when she finds herself befriending the town loner, Jake. I loved the pairing of the quiet and intense hero and the peppy and sunshine heroine, so I was loving every moment between Nora and Jake. It was lovely to see Jake open up to someone after having suffered such a horrible tragedy in his life. The chemistry between the two was palpable throughout the whole book and I so enjoyed watching them connect on both a physical and an emotional level. The romance was a slow-burn that budded from a sweet and open friendship, so if you like those, you're going to enjoy Paradise Cove a lot.

It was a shame when a trope I'm not particularly fond of in romance novels popped up. I was thrown off and I have to admit to being unhappy with Jake's reaction to the situation. I can't go into the details of it because of spoilers but it did dampen my enjoyment of the book a bit. It's obviously a personal preference and it may not bother other readers. That said, I did love everything before that thing happened. I love the meddling matchmaking elders in Moonflower Bay. They were so nosy but also adorable. :)

Even though Paradise Cove didn't 100% work for me, I do recommend picking it up if you enjoy small-town romances or if you're a fan of Jenny Holiday. She is a very talented author.

When I read Mermaid Inn a few months ago, I fell in love with every single thing about Moonflower Bay. Seriously, I'd pack up my stuff and move to the town in a heartbeat if given the chance. I especially love the meddlesome townsfolk. If characters like those don't scream "small town," I don't know what does. After enjoying the first book so thoroughly, I was anxious to get my hands on the second one, Paradise Cove. I loved it every bit as much as the first, for both similar and different reasons.

Mermaid Inn was a second chance and so is Paradise Cove, though it's a different variety of second chance. Instead of reunited childhood sweethearts, we have a man not really looking for a HEA after the death of his child and subsequent end of his marriage. All bets are off once Nora moves to town and they strike up a friendship. (And then a "friends with benefits" agreement.) I loved their friendship but loved what all came next even more. These two were it. Their connection was apparent in every interaction.

I loved this book. It was real and, at times, raw. Nora and Jake made me laugh, smile, swoon and cry. I love the small-town setting and all its meddlesome townsfolk, the friendships and, let's be honest, everything about it. There's a heavy focus on dealing with grief in this book and I found those parts were done beautifully. But, it's not all sadness. There's a fantastic romance and a well-deserved HEA (of course).

I received a complimentary copy of this book for review consideration. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
